Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff
"It's sport alright. I mean, to be fair... look at them. Look at them go. Very athletic - maybe someone'll make a nice dive for the snitch, or there'll be a chase, and then we can get our hurrahs on," there was a distinct pause as she pushed her scarf away from her mouth. Letting out a breath of air, she watched it condense into a cloud, before looking over to Quin's drink again, "Yes please, gimme," she'd spent enough time around her cousins to not have much mind about sharing the same thermos; if it kept her warm, that's all that mattered at that time, "Also, behold Quin. I'm going to teach you a spell. Wait for it. Are you ready? It's called blowing on the beverage to cool it down," she used her breath to do just that, but wrinkled her nose somewhat as time went on and she realized the thermos meant that the drink would, in fact, remain hot, "Or not. This thermos is made of evil."
Side eying the boy's long, red locks of hair, she snorted, "We're both Gandalf in this scenario. We were both late. Or on time, as it were. Thanks by the way," she took a few tentative sips and allowed the boy his thermos back, which she was pretty sure he'd brought out more to hold than to drink. While she had not brought a thermos out, she did have her mittens on, "It is a bit shy on women folk, but it's fine. I live precariously through the little hobbit people - them and I, we're more or less the same size after all, and eat about as much."
Her head leaned over Quin to look at Cooper and she grinned, "I forget you two actually read Muggle books - damn, you're both no fun... you got my joke and everything," leaning back in place, she allowed the wind to play with her hair as the players dove around, "One more thing I now know about you, Coop," she breathed out, once more watching the air condense more than the players in front of her, "Charms I'd wagger - could always go ask the professor later. Bet they'd know what book to take from the library to find out about those charms," her eyes drifted back into focus and she turned her head to look at her blonde friend once more, offering him a cheeky grin, "Well I certainly don't watch it for intellectual gain, do you? And you have to admit all that flying and swooping is bound to make them look quite fit! I don't particularly care if a sport's about kicking a ball, tossing a ball into a hoop, or flying and tossing it into a hoop; sports a sport," she shrugged, "Now if you used Threstals, that might be a bit more entertaining to watch. What about Hippogriffs?"@Cooper Ray @Quinlan Knight

Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff
Quinlan was... not entirely sure what the heck Splatching was, but given the penalty laps being handed out with the ten points to the other team, he guessed it was rather sportsman like. It just... didn't stop them from having the lead on points.
He bared his teeth in a sympathetic grimace at the players in the air, absently taking his cup back and softly patting Merle on the head. "Yeah thanks for the effort. I'd put an ice cube in it but I wasn't sure they had ice cubes in the kitchens, instead of magical cooling spells... and I mean... I want it drinkable. Not frozen. No iced tea until summer." (An particularly American tea heresy he was grown fond of, like his abysmal tea making skills.) He'd even been somewhat incurably convinced that putting milk in his tea was odd and largely unpleasant.
"Also we're still very fun and charming... we just have a better shot at impenetrable in jokes that the purebloods will never understand unless we tell them. He noted haughtily, adding as he blew at the tea a few more times in futility, and took an overheated sip. [/b]"Besides... it's fair trade. They've got their fancy flying sportball and judgy horses, pyro reptiles, and uh, whatever that ambulatory bolt cutter counts as."[/b] He decided, meaning, by the last, the snallygaster he'd looked up with his previous wand. Emphasis on previous, though what exactly had happened to the last one was embarrassing, fast, and going to definitely stay between himself and Merle if he could possibly help it. Ideally no one would ever mention it again. EVER.
"I think I kind of get why they aren't riding stuff you need to stable though, that would really cut down on the number of players and then you'd kind of get this polo club snobbery going on, and I don't think they need any more excuses." Also does either of you know what Splatching is and why it's bad?"

Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff
"Blatching," Evelynn corrected from a row up from the trio of amicably chatting first years.
Somewhere after spouting off at length to Edelhardt about her assessment of the Hufflepuff team, the second-year Gryffindor had returned to watching the game. Despite Gryffindor's recent victory over the snakes, she had a vested interest in seeing how the favoured team continued to develop over this year in order to make preparations for next. Not to mention, Hufflepuff would be the last team against which the lions would face off this quidditch season. With their new members and updated leadership, she didn't want to miss a second of their new strategic approach. Even still, she could only go so long without inadvertently listening in on the conversation transpiring before her. A need to address their collective ignorance had been slowly simmering for some time and was finally coming to a head.
"It's blatching, not splatching," she repeated again, lifting a hand to offer a silent hello as though that would somehow blunt her rude interjection into their midst. "It's considered to be a bit unsportsmanly in quidditch, which is meant to be mostly a non-contact sport. I suppose you could consider it like boarding in hockey, if that's a bit more familiar to you. Or making contact in basketball. That's why they're getting the penalties for fouling."
"In fact," she continued, shifting her position and momentarily closing the notebook on her lap, quill tucked to hold her page, "there are quite a few fouls. Bumphing is one of them, although I don't think I've ever seen that happen in one of our school games. That's when a beater deliberately hits the bludger towards the crowd. You see—" Her gaze shifted from the relaxed guardian of the thermos to the intermittently absent-minded blonde boy. "—there isn't anything that stops them from coming towards us except that they track the nearest target, which—since we fly at such a distance from the stands—is always a quidditch player. If it's forced out of that proximity, though, it would come careening towards us and the referee would have to stop the game momentarily to retrieve it. It's a tactic that's sometimes used to stop chasers from making a goal or seekers from catching the snitch."

Cooper was about to reply to the "splatching" question, and that he didn't know the term when another voice interrupted his thoughts. His eyes narrowed and then turned to the girl who'd spoken. What the hell? She just couldn't help herself could she? Wow, sounded like him a little bit and that pissed him off.
Perhaps he should have done some reading up on Quidditch and how it worked, but he really didn't care to know half the information besides maybe the rules, just so he can talk about it, especially since it seemed to be the main sport in the wizarding world. But still. He didn't really care much about Quidditch and likely would never play.
Still, maybe he should learn how to play, just to piss this girl off, because he wasn't about to be bested by a second-year Gryffindor.
"Thanks for the information, it was very enlightening, but I'm just curious, did they also teach you-" He most definitely wasn't expecting it, but there was suddenly a hand over his mouth, interrupting the snide comment he'd chosen to throw at her. His reaction was a bit more childish than he would like to admit, but he couldn't help but shove the hand out of his face and send a nasty glare toward Quinlan.
Thankfully that shut him up, but it didn't stop him from crossing his arms and turning back around toward the game to pout for a few moments.interacting with @Merle Corbyn @Quinlan Knight and @Evelynn Decipio

Quinlan had to admit he was not used to being the one doing the silencing, rather than say, having Merle quietly grind her heel into his instep or something of similar 'stop being an idiot' action. Still, in this case, something told him it was necessary, and he didn't have any particular regrets for keeping a hand on Cooper and flashing his best 'oh hey there, new friend' smile.
"Blatching, Splatching... still kinda sounds like there oughta be mud involved. Or paint. Paint would probably be kind of exciting, like... color tag but so much crazier. Sounds like you play though?"
She had said 'we fly'... and first years weren't allowed brooms, at least not here, and she seemed to know what she was talking about... this was interesting. Also a little hair raising, if those blasted murder balls could come into the crowd. He certainly didn't have one of those bludger bats to fend one of the damn things off, and he was pretty sure it wouldn't be discouraged by a mug of hot tea.
"I don't think it counts as even mostly no contact if there's murder balls involved but I guess that's sorta semantics." He added, sipping in a considering fashion and glancing at Merle as he cautiously unmuzzled Cooper.
"Also Hi, I'm Quin. The feisty one who's mad you stomped on his 'I'm a brooding but very knowing sort with a poor gasp of social nicety' is Cooper, and this is Merle, who I'm petitioning to have known as 'most likely to hand you your kneecaps, gift wrapped, if you mess with her'. Who're you?"

Merle eyed the thermos with a frown, huffing softly at Quin's words; he wasn't wrong. The thing was a touch evil, in her opinion, not that it much mattered, "A bit of heat never hurt anyone, after all, and it's the only, proper way to drink tea anyways," turning back towards the sport, she watched the play until a voice sounded from somewhere behind them, giving a hefty explanation of what was going on during the game. Her head turned to peek over her shoulder, and she watched the new girl as she borrowed further into her scarf, the chill of the day biting into her skin.
She did not miss the fact the girl had said 'we', making it obvious she played the game, likely for the lion team, and Merle nodded along to the explanation; she was not in the habit of hissing at people that offered her a good explanation willingly. Though the girl did seem to come as a touch haughty, she just figured it had more to do with the age she had on them, and possibly, her first hand knowledge of the game itself. Merle herself had been known to get a touch bossy when she knew what she was doing, and she would not begrudge this girl one of her own faults.
"Hmmm... I guess we're playing with stereotypes then," she murmured, when she noticed it was the Slytherin team that was not playing in a particularly clean manner, "Grandma would be very upset," her voice had been low, a murmur before Cooper began to speak, prompting a grin from Merle both at the clear direction he'd been heading with his words, and the damage control Quin was forced to do. She leaned across Quin's arm to give Cooper a poke as she chuckled, "You're always so grumpy... you're like a cat, Coop. Relax, I don't think she meant any harm, and hey the more you know; now we know - it's not like I know anything about this sport. I just think it's interesting to watch, if you know what I mean. Also house spirit. Must support my team. Go Badgers."
She looked over her shoulder at the other girl and grinned again, "You could not pay me to get on one of those brooms, so kudos to you for doing what I wouldn't do dead," a pause as she watched the 'murder ball' sail passed in the near distance and she huffed, "Maybe it'd be safer to sit a lil bit further back, if what she's saying is right."@Evelynn Decipio @Cooper Ray @Quinlan Knight

In the middle of their chatter, Starlee had her eyes on the field and watched as Cash did a warm-up lap, flying close to the stands where the group sat and thanking them for their support. They raised their hand which held their beater bat, and waved. Starlee mimicked the action back, standing up as she did so, and smiling at them. She watched as they flew off, hoping for a better match this time.
And shortly after, the match began. The field turned into total chaos and Starlee struggled to watch what was going on with both teams. It was really only thanks to the commentation that she knew what was going on at all, this being her second-ever quidditch match. She watched as the jumble of players seemed to fly (sometimes) so delicately around one another, aside from when the bludgers came into play. Slytherin quickly scored 10 points, and Starlee stood up to cheer.
She then watched as one of Cash's bludgers made contact with its target, and the boy began to fall from his broom. Starlee cheered again, "Yes!!! Nice hit Cash!" she bellowed from the stands. All this cheering was keeping her pretty warm from the bitter weather. She watched as the boy Cash had hit was collected by a teammate, which, even though it wasn't great for them, she certainly didn't want the boy to get hurt. This was her biggest issue with quidditch... the heights. The sensation of falling was something she absolutely hated.
It wasn't long that the game seemed to be in full swing. Ten points to Hufflepuff, another ten to Slytherin, and ten to Hufflepuff again, tieing the score. Again, she cheered as she saw Cash make another amazing hit, only for it to be redirected toward them by an opposing beater... Lindsey if she wasn't mistaken? She vaguely remembered meeting the girl in an errand last year. Wow, she had some good aim as well it seemed. "Watch Out!" she yelled to Cash, just as they nimbly avoided being hit. Phew, that was a close one.
Starlee's attention was almost entirely lost from the two partners she had chosen to sit with, her eyes fixed on the field and the glimpses of purple hair she could see under the helmets.

The blonde boy was the first to look around at her interjection. His expression was a touch difficult to read, but he'd allowed her to complete her little--alright, long-winded--explanation without interruption and had even offered thanks at its conclusion. A smile had been his response to that. It wasn't every day that someone actually appreciated her taking the time to offer her expertise and clarify a concept that someone was clearly struggling with. Most people seemed to find the disparity of knowledge something to be ashamed of, fluffing up their feathers with indignation the moment anyone deigned to suggest that knowledge in an area was lacking. It was nice, really, to find someone that--
No, wait, nevermind. Her smile faded an instant later at the hint of sarcasm in the boy's tone. If the trajectory of his falsely pleasant query wasn't enough--which by the lidding of her gaze and slight pursing of her lips would demonstrate it certainly was--the sudden appearance of his friend's hand over his mouth surely would be. That, however, was enough to wipe any ire she might have had towards his unnecessarily rude reaction and replace it with a dash of amusement. As the boy huffed and returned to his previous forward-facing position with all the appearance of a toddler that had been denied his perfectly reasonable demand to skip naptime and be given a unicorn, Evelynn's brow lofted with the arrival of the faintest of smirks.
"Mud?" A breathy laugh through her nose accompanied the shift of attention back to the one who had interceded. "Interesting.." she added when he had concluded his thoughts about paint and colour tag. It reminded her of touch football, and she had to admit, there would likely be a fair fewer hospital wing visits if this was the strategy in place rather than full on mid-air tackles. Her gaze dipped briefly to the female of the trio as she reached across the largest of them to poke the grumpy cat.
"Well, I suppose I meant no contact between the players themselves," came her reply to the gangly one's own no-contact counter. Her attention snapped back to him as the conversation carried on, whatever exchange that happened between the other two having to go unheard. Her smile renewed with the introductions, but she had to fight back her amusement all over again with the embellishments that he gave his friends. "A pleasure to make your acquaintances," Evelynn replied, making a note to confirm whether the names had been family or given names.
"I'm Decipio, second year Gryffindor," she replied in turn, holding out a hand to shake. If he chose to take it up, he'd receive a firm--but not too firm--grip before release. If he didn't take it up, she'd simply withdraw the offer without comment or outward reaction. Adjusting her seating, she added her own embellishment, "and you're quite right. I'm one of the seekers on the Gryffindor quidditch team." She left out the part about having been one of the captains since her first year as well, or about being a Gryffindor prefect. Small details that might sound as though she were attempting to elevate her status unnecessarily. Besides, if they had attended the previous day's game of Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw and been paying attention, they'd recognize the name. And since the game is still in progress, I don't know if Evelynn is in a position to be proud or embarrassed about her performance.
"You might be change your mind if you give it a chance," Evelynn replied to Merle, the comment having been met with a reserved smile. "It's rather liberating, really. If it's the bludgers that are of concern, though, perhaps the racing might be more to your speed? Are you enjoying the game, though?" She inquired, glancing between the three of them, pulling herself back to a more straightened and dignified seated posture now that she was actually accepted into the conversation. "Would I be right in thinking you're all fairly new to it?"

Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff
The game would play on. The teams seemed to abide by certain stereotypes -- Hufflepuff would go for the quaffle and attempt to protect their Seeker. Slytherin depended on brute force and fouls which placed the team in a predicament. As Mr. Kovacs was no longer interested in conversation, potentially enamored by the game unfold, Mathias would simply watch the game play out. There was this energy in the crowd that made it easier to forget the cold.
It was a tense game, neither had found the snitch as of yet and as the game went on both sides might become desperate. It is in these moments you see how people truly are. A part of him wondered how 'hard working' and how much of their 'fairplay' would linger if Hufflepuff started to suffer the first loss of the year or if fate rewards honesty.
That would be a dull story if that were the case.
Nobody had been knocked to the ground (yet) but he wondered how much longer that would go on for. The big guy on the Hufflepuff team had caught the Slytherin's eye. He had a powerful and an imposing presence, physically he was a formidable presence but he wondered if others rightfully underestimated his magical skill and if their prejudices proved to be true. Mathias liked the unexpected but more than that he found himself envious of power and Quinn Healy had power in spades.

────────────────────── 𝒜 ──────────────────────The Gryffindor's pale cheeks were flushed as she entered the stands. She felt terrible for being late since it was Flash's first game. She didn't know if he'd actually get much flying time, but in any event, she felt like a horrible girlfriend for showing up late.
The Gryffindor team had fought hard but beaten the Snakes in their game, so Ana didn't have any qualms about cheering for them. It was also an opportunity to get a good look at the Hufflepuff team for the Lions' next match. As much as she didn't want to murder Ami anymore, she wasn't about to root for the Badgers, simply because the Badgers winning would make it that much more difficult for her team to win the Quidditch Cup.
She ascended the bleachers, a hot cup of coffee in one hand. She was dressed in a green sweater and a pair of gloves that he'd given her before they had started dating as a rather pathetic show of support. Her jeans and boots were a bit more casual than what she might have worn in past years, but certainly more preppy than her fall outfits.
She hadn't been anyone's girlfriend before, but she doubted she was a very good one to Flash. Still, that was the nice thing about their relationship. Neither of them deluded themselves into thinking it was anything more than a way to be less lonely, which took a bit of pressure off. She enjoyed his company, but even after they'd been officially a couple for more than two months, he was practically a stranger to her as she was to him. It wasn't the stuff of ballads or novels, but for the time being, Ana was alright with that. Her life had seemed far too much like the tragic and improbable events of novels and stories lately, so not dealing with that in one aspect was agreeable to her.
She caught sight of Gris as well as Decipio as she sat and would shoot each of them a small smile should they make eye contact. As she glanced out to the pitch, it didn't seem that she'd missed too much of the game. The teams were fairly tied up in points and it didn't look as though either Seeker had spotted the ever-elusive snitch just yet. Slytherin's first string seeker was still in the air, which assuaged Ana's guilt slightly since it meant she hadn't actually missed any of Flash's playing time. Dark eyes focused intently on the field, Ana pulled out her omnioculars, determined not to miss a moment more of the game than she had.
