Final Foray
Flash's eyebrow quirked to hear Thomas go on about loyalty, but a glance over at him wouldn't show much in the way of a reaction. Maybe he was saying nonsense out of boredom, or perhaps he was freshly scorned. Loyalty is fickle... the wording of it stuck in his head like the hook in a song. Flash couldn't agree wholeheartedly, he could say he felt a bit betrayed by Selim and Dmitri, but he had considered that more a matter of not having earned their devotion. They slipped through the cracks of his weakening iron fist, the one he was too young and inexperienced to hold taut. Valerius would never be ambushed, or panic when threatened. Then again, there were things Valerius would do that Flash couldn't condone, no matter how much he wanted to forgive him.
To Flash's final quip of boundless whining, Thomas surprised him yet again by offering his opinion. Both Burnetts would likely agree with him, not to mention a few others from his fold who found his masks disturbing. Propriety and charm were were a sword and shield to Flash, and during his first year he had used them to gather an army. Nowadays, he was wondering whether there had ever really been a war, whether he had made himself a target for nothing. Now that he had been raked across the coals, he had little to show for it but this 'fickle loyalty'.
"I haven't had any success running away from myself so far." Little did Flash know, Thomas had already assumed as much, perhaps having seen his fair share of rich boys with something to prove. "I'm starting to think running away just doesn't work."
He had no idea why he was being so chatty. Of course, he had initiated the conversation explicitly because he wanted to be entertained, but there was no need to share so many of his personal thoughts. Generally, Flash scrubbed his colorful words clean before they were presented. He was simply worn thin, just as he was describing. Hiding from his fears, keeping his nose clean, staying unknown-- those things might have worked for Val, but it was running Flash ragged. He wanted to complain. He wanted to be angry.
He couldn't possibly have been prepared for what Thomas would suggest next though. "You?" He would have his attention completely torn from the game, looking at Thomas directly to see whether he was having a lark. He continued as Flash looked on incredulously, saying he wouldn't dance, and that he planned to get even. Following his gaze, it would seem he intended to implicate Miss Tyranni, no doubt for the happenings at the last Blossom Ball. Flash was at a loss for words, opening and closing his mouth with nearly silent scoffs.
Either Thomas was incredibly bold, incredibly apathetic, or had no sense of shame. There were other options of course, but Flash stung with the audacity Thomas had to ask so casually. Flash had already turned down much more attractive offers, written in cursive and sprayed with perfume. Then here, on the Quidditch bench, Thomas thought he could simply ask in passing as though they were a couple of mates going down to the pub after the game? After the initial shock wore off, Flash couldn't help but laugh again. A pleasant, amused laugh.
"Well... if you say we'll have fun, how can I say no." Flash smiled affectionately, tickled by the prospect. He ought to have been aghast, maybe even slap him in the face for insulting his taste, but that part of him was falling apart. He wanted to have fun, too. Certainly the looks on peoples' faces when he brought Thomas Lestrange to the ball instead of a beautiful girl would be worth it.
Before Flash could say any more, the crowd would erupt with noise, heralding the end of the game. Quick indeed, it would take longer to change back into his regular clothes than it had for Dan to catch the snitch. Flash clapped along with the crowd, running a few numbers in his head as he heard the final score announced. There was still a good chance they could take the cup, so long as Gryffindor lost their match to Hufflepuff. Even though the first match was fairly rough, Slytherin had come out of the year looking good in both Quidditch and dueling. Flash did enjoy winning, so his mood from before the match had practically vanished.
Getting up, there was nothing to stick around for. He was also the closest to the locker room, though contrary to his earlier bellyaching, he actually had something to look forward to now.
"Don't disappoint me." It wasn't so much of a demand as it was a plea, his eyes soft as he said it. If Thomas stood him up, or abandoned him, he'd never let him live it down. He was done with being walked all over just to be pleasing.

@Thomas Lestrange
Unless Thomas keeps him, Flash leaves the thread.
