Stuck in the Broom Closet
It was fun watching the first year students attend their first flying class. As Kit watched them, perched a little ways off on his own Bluebottle broom, he thought about how he, as a No-Maj-born had attended his own first flying lessons in Ilvermorny. It had been so wonderful that the hardest part was to remember that even brooms had height limits - as did the human body when it came to enduring the higher altitudes and atmosphere.
Smiling softly at the memory, he continued to watch the kids until his gaze trailed to their instructor. The way he was paying attention to his students and actively helping them with actions as well as words inspired Kit to take out his sketchpad in order to start drawing them. They were quick gesture drawings at first, but the caretaker was well-versed by now in sketching out moving targets. The trick was to get the main shapes of the poses first and a few key details before filling out everything else in between - similar to writing a beginning and an end to a story before adding in the middle so one knew how to get from point A to point B.
Throughout the course of the lesson, Kit made several sketches of both the professor and his students. At last, the students were dismissed and Kit tucked his pencil behind his ear, putting his sketchpad under his arm so he could have his hands free in order to grip his broom and fly down. Once he touched the ground, he put his broom, too, under his arm and began to help the flying instructor gather the school brooms that the first years had used for the lesson.
"Hello there, Professor," he called brightly, a cheerful grin on his face. He continued to reach down and pick up brooms as he spoke, every now and then aided by a tufted tail that snuck out from under the back of his autumn coat. "Kit Paine, the new caretaker. Call me Kit. Might I have a word...?"
