Finally.

Charms.

Today wasn't as active as she had hoped, but Everly was determined to at least make it a bit better. Charms had finally come around, the one subject Everly was at least certain she could excel in. Leaning forward in her seat, paying close attention like usual, Everly grinned excitedly when they got to practice the actual spell.

Partners. Okay, sure. Everly didn't pay that much attention to what she was doing, one of her lesser qualities that occurred when she got excited - such as in events like the current one. And finally, it came, her chance to shine. Wand motion, incantation, concentrate - all parts of the same thing Everly was used to, the rush she got and excitement whenever she cast a spell.

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

And up, up, up that feather floated. Perfection gained from several, several events of trial and error in secret. Everly grinned, both parts smug and proud. She turned to her partner. "Did you see that?" Everly almost started bouncing, never one to pass up an opportunity to show off.

Then, noticing her partner's feather was still on the table, Everly decided to be the friendly person. She would offer to help, and they would become instant friends. Foolproof plan. "Would you like some help?"

Charm is usually Aurora’s favourite subject in Hogwarts. The ‘too early’ morning plus her stomach, which constantly screamed ‘give me food’ made her less excited about today’s class, no hard feeling to the Professor. The Ravenclaw’s mind wandered through the imaginary foods that she might see across the table. Should she eat cereal, or meat? Or perhaps, pancake dazzled in 1 litre of maple syrup? The lesson was about a levitating charm, can it levitate Aurora straight to the great hall to get some food? Apparently not.

The girl beside her pulled Aurora back to reality as she swish and flicked her wand in a dramatic and excited face while saying the incantation to the feather. Aurora rolled her eyes in secret and sighed, not that she hated to see someone else’s happiness, she was hungry, it ruined her entire mood. The Gryffindor turned her head to face Aurora and gave her an ear to ear smile and asked her if she saw her beyond perfect spell casting.

“Uh- yeah. As you can tell, I have two functional eyes.”
Aurora could not care less about levitating the feather, especially with an empty stomach. Her brain is her stomach. Without food, she cannot think straight. Right when she thought the proud girl would play more with her feather, she offered some help. It was a nice gesture, of course. But the Ravenclaw saw that as an underestimation of her ability to cast such a simple spell. Instead of happily accept the friendly offer, with a side-eyed look, she said something that came out more rude than she intended it to be.

“I would really appreciate it if you could just play with your own feather. Thank you very much.”
An important lesson learned, never speak to a hungry Ravenclaw.

It was as if the day couldn't get any worse.

It was March, the snow was finally leaving, it was Charms class, and Everly had pancakes for breakfast. Why couldn't it get any worse?

Oh yeah, someone left out the part about having to deal with some moody teenager as a partner.

The Ravenclaw seemed way too exaggerated with her movements, but Everly didn't mind. Not quite yet, until the girl foolishly decided to open her mouth. Well, that was kind of Everly's fault. She would have gotten mad even if the Ravenclaw hadn't spoken.

"Hm?" Delicately and professionally raising an eyebrow at the girl's response, Everly's insides turned sour, and quickly. "Oh wow, who would've thought?" Everly said smartly, quite happy with herself for not taking it to the extreme like she had before - on very different terms, of course, ahem. "I do have eyes too - no wonder!" Everly tilted her head sideways, still smiling, though it had shrunk noticeably from the moment she replied. Everly would still give the girl a chance to redeem herself, of course; she wasn't that mean. After all, what wasn't wrong with a friendly offer to help?

Turns out, a lot of things was wrong with that in the girl's head which was an empty one, in Everly's opinion. "I'm afraid you may have misunderstood the instructions," Everly said in what she thought was a calm, collected, and polite tone. "We're doing something called partners. By definition, we kind of have to work together. So I do formally apologize, but I don't think I will be able to heed your request. Please accept my apologies, though."

If Aurora could change one thing, it would be eating some food before class. But the grumpy kid can’t help it to be snappy towards the Gryffindor. Her face flushed a little more, it might have to do with a pang of guilt for being rude when she was not supposed to. But, being a stubborn kid, admitting that she did something wrong was a bit of a problem. Especially when she knew it was her who started to spread the negative energy.

Instead, she sighed in annoyance and said, “oh- no need to be afraid, because I understood the instruction completely-“, she turned her face away from the girl and mumbled to herself, “but I don’t think I agreed to be your part-” , Aurora stopped her word in order not to offend the girl even more, it was pretty noticeable that she was annoyed by the Ravenclaw’s rather rude response. Even though the feather girl was smiling, that look in her eyes intended to kill someone. And that someone was Aurora.

Aurora looked at her ‘partner’ once more and continued, “-Anywayyyyyss, I suppose you want to help me. My feather is yours then.” She blew her feather, so it moved to the Gryffindor’s direction. The feather went up slightly as if it was flying. Aurora clapped her hands together with a huge fake grin on her face, “Ooh, did you see that? It was flying”

Was... there really even any point to this?

By now, Everly could pretty much just start laughing. The Gryffindor could certainly handle this, so she just flashed another smile. Before, it was highly annoying, but now, it was just a small irritation in Everly's head. At the girl's response, Everly simply did an innocent little shrug, answering, "Of course. That's why you definitely didn't need me to clarify, right?" If the girl didn't recognize the insult, well, that was her fault for being oblivious. Maybe Everly was boiling mad. Maybe Everly faced insults every day. You couldn't tell though - this interaction was simply just incoherent, in Everly's opinion, that she was paying more attention to her facial expression than her words by this point.

Everly made a weird face at the girl's next words. "Uh... yes, I'd like to help. After all, why do you think I asked?" Then, the girl had the audacity to give Everly her feather. As if she could take Everly's credit and effort as easily as that. Maybe everything else leading up to this had been annoying, but this was just plain foolish and stupid, and the competitive and proud Everly was kinda, sort of, mad.

"Yes, I can quite very well tell that it is flying. But when we're done, make sure to clarify that your brilliant flying feat is yours, because I certainly won't and will not be taking credit for such... mindless actions."

Weren't Ravenclaws supposed to be, like... smart?

If someone willing to stop her right now, it would be much appreciated. Aurora thought she did something sassy, when the truth was, she made a fool out of herself. Whatever the Gryffindor's name was definitely annoyed by the Ravenclaw. Inside the 11 year old’s mind, it would be a great idea to do more meaningless ‘insults’ for no apparent reason.

“Uh- I don’t know, show off, perhaps?” She said it in an almost inaudible, but loud enough for the girl to hear it, if she had a good hearing ability. When she gets older, and looks back to what she did to the Gryffindor, she would ask herself why did little Aurora act like an annoying tiny cockroach and make herself seem uneducated. She then noticed the sarcasm that the other girl threw on her face, and she was mad. At that point, she knew she should not do that, but she would lose the ‘battle’ if she stop and apologizes. With a sarcastic laugh, her head turned to the Gryffindor and said,

Mindless? Is this still mindless to you?”
Then the grumpy cockroach grabbed her wand, pointed it out to the feather and did an even more mindless action. “Incendio” (roll : 22). And she succeeded. The white feather turned into a flaming reddish orange, then slowly became ashes on the table. Honestly, that was a bit too much. Aurora overreacted to such a small problem, but it should not be a surprise. Aurora has always been a sensitive kid, has a short fuse, easily set ablaze, her usual shyness completely goes away whenever she is annoyed. It was not hundred percent because of the Gryffindor, it was because she was hangry.

“Ah, poor feather. I didn't mean to do it on the feather, though, wrong target.” She gave her ‘partner’ a smirk. A smirk that will make people want to punch her in the face with a chair.

No, Everly did not believe there was any point to this.

The girl continued to act even more foolishly from there, and by then Everly was completely over it. However, the Gryffindor would not let the Ravenclaw get the better end of the deal - out of stubbornness or stupidity, Everly did not know. If the girl thought her 'insults' were prodding her, Everly would refuse to let that knowledge be known; her face an entire mask, devoid of emotions. "Oh, yes," Everly would say, a smirk crowding her face. Whether it was real or not, neither of them would know. "Everything I do is to brag. It's not like anything is more important than you and your certification, isn't it?" Everly would continue to smile, lazily tapping her fingers on the table as she rested her chin on her palm, wand rolling in between her fingers. It was like she wasn't even trying anymore, and perhaps she really wasn't.

The annoying, idiotic Ravenclaw would then proceed to get mad - oh wow, Everly definitely hadn't seen this before - having some sort of fit, setting the feather on fire. Making no motion of panic or really, any helpful move, Everly would sit there with a smile. "Well, yes, I do in fact think that the action you just did was quite mindless. Really, what are you thinking?" Everly leaned back in her seat, the fire growing. Everly made no move to help, her eyes indicating you set it on fire, so it's not my problem. And really, it wasn't. "What an unfortunate feather. I feel bad for it - having to deal with you and your mindlessness."

The smell of smoke and burning would soon drift over to the others occupying the classroom, if not already.

And there she was, casually sitting in the charm classroom, with a burning feather in front of her eyes. Beside her, the Gryffindor was also burning in flame although she acted as if it did not bother her at all. To match her partner’s calm demeanour, Aurora put her wand away from the table, pretending to be clueless about the fire although her inner self was screaming in panic as she felt a little asphyxiated from the smoke. She began to cough, once, twice, then it turned to be a continuous cough. She tried to cover her nose and mouth with her robe, did not work wonder for her situation. Thank you asthma for ruining the moment, because the tiny eagle decided to give up her stubbornness and grabbed her bag and dug through its contents hastily.

Aurora has a habit of putting everything in her bag and never putting it out, anyone could definitely see how full her bag was. It was a surprise every stitch on her bag managed to stay intact. That would be one of the reasons why she’s short, carrying heavy stuff all the time isn’t good for her growth. Someone needs to tell her to stop doing that so no one mistook her for being a goblin or a tiny insect from a bin somewhere.

The classroom was getting hot, it might be from the flame or the fact that she cannot breathe properly. The sound of wheeze and squeaky breath combined with her reddened face were worrisome. Lowering her ego was the best decision that Aurora had ever made. She turned to face the Gryffindor with her slightly teary eyes and handed her the bag, hoping she would help her search for her life safer, the inhaler. The only word that came out between her cough and wheeze was “in- in hal *wheeze*”. She only had two wishes at that moment. Hopefully, the lioness will be kind enough to help her and please don’t be a pureblood who has no clue what an inhaler is.

Well, now she could say she had witnessed someone setting something on fire in front of her, and absolutely did not give a - I mean, and absolutely didn't care.

Everly's momentarily triumph was interrupted - and very rudely, may I say - by the intolerable, annoying wheezing of the Ravenclaw beside her. Then she started having a coughing fit. Everly was intrigued. Was this some Muggle thing? Did it happen regularly? Then, out of the blue, she started rummaging through her bag. And believe Everly when she said that the bag was huge. Who had that much stuff to put in there? A better question, actually, was what was the girl even looking for? Something to treat the cough? If she carried it around, then it must be some kind of regular thing.

The smell of burnt feather drifted over to Everly. Realizing it was still there, Everly tilted her head curiously. Maybe it was the fire - yes, that must have been it! Having a moment of euphoria, Everly pieced it together. The fire started the cough!

Wait, then why did the girl set it on fire in the first place?

A bag was shoved towards Everly. Everly looked at it disdainfully. The Ravenclaw's bag.
"In-inhal-"
Upon receiving the little instruction she did, Everly reluctantly took the bag, feeling sympathetic enough for the Ravenclaw to look for this 'in-hal'. Because, in fact, Everly was a pureblood who had no idea what an inhaler was. Everly was determined to find it though, because she stuck her hand in and decided to brave the unknown.

And there was a LOT of stuff. It took some time, because Everly ran to an abnormal amount of papers, leaves, and forks, but she eventually found an interesting looking purple sort of thing. It looked like an in-hal, so she gave it to the Ravenclaw.

Then, she turned her wand upon the feather. "Extinguo!"

Who lit the unarmed innocent feather in the first place? Aurora did. And who got the most impact on her impulsive action? Also Aurora.

The instruction clearly said to fly the feather, not burn it. Embarrassing herself had been a regular thing that she unknowingly did almost every interaction with people in Hogwarts. Although the Gryffindor looked a bit unenthusiastic to help the wheezing girl, maybe her inner evil soul showed up at the right place and time, at the end of the day, she saved someone from a near death situation. Aurora snatched the purple flowers decorated inhaler, shook it a couple of times, removed the cap and push it almost violently.

It took her about fifteen minutes to finally calm down and go back to her usual annoying self. Though, her hands were a bit shaky due to the side effect of Albuterol inside her inhaler. She turned her head to her lifesaver and proceed to hug her abruptly, and shamelessly screamed, “YOU SAVED MY LIFE! I LOVE YOU!” After realizing what she just said and did, Aurora let go of the hug and pushed her charm partner away lightly “N-no, that’s not- that’s not what I meant. I don’t love you, no I don’t.” She shook her head a couple of times, smiling awkwardly and turned away to put her inhaler back to where it was before, with the cap on, of course. “But thank you, but I don’t love you, we are not there, yet.” Her hand tried to tidy her robe and hair, as if the asthma attack situation never happened, “It ain’t easy being wheezy." Then she shrugged, "Hey, at least that rhymes!”
