A first Charm Solo Closed

Written to be read alongside Professor Vernatis' first lesson...

Joey walked into the classroom extremely excited, although he had failed to spot Lennox at breakfast and was hoping to see her here. Charms was one of the lessons he had most been looking forward to. Their professor, who seemed to be eating, despite the fact it had just been breakfast, started speaking before anyone had a chance to sit down, he asked everyone to mix up and avoid sitting with their house mates. Joey spotted Lennox and succeeded in catching her eye and grinned, before sitting down between a Hufflepuff and a Gryffindor and the professor introduced himself.
Artemis Vernatis. He named seemed to fit, although he had never met anyone called Artemis before. He tried to remember the name by repeating it a few times in his head,
"Professor Vernatis, Professor Vernatis, Professor Vernatis...". He didn't want to get it wrong and have to write it down 600 times.
"O.W.L.s", he thought, that was a fitting name, and hoped he would - as Professor Vernatis had said - have a great time in his class. After all, he liked learning new things and thought he could concentrate well provided there were no unneccessary distractions.
A girl spoke, asking what O.W.L.s were, which annoyed him a little. Even he knew that and he was muggle born. Hadn't she read Hogwarts: A History? He switched off while Professor Vernatis explained Ordinary Wizarding Level exams, until a word popped out at him - Auror. Not recognising the word and thinking he liked the sound of it, Joey made a mental note to research it later.
Professor Vernatis' next question made Joey give him his full attention again - they were starting real work. Joey tried to think back to what he had read in his Charms book before coming to Hogwarts. He remembered there were three rules, but couldn't remember what they were. Too late - the ginger boy had given the correct answer. He clapped along with the rest of the Ravenclaws when the boy was given 3 points, but quickly stopped feeling it was rather pointless.
Joey listened carefully as  the rules were explained to them, taking in as much as he could. "Concentration, Gestures, Incantation". He tried to imprint it into his head, before a girl interupted Professor Vernatis. He scowled at her for breaking his focus. He came here to learn from real professors that knew what they were doing, not pretty wanna-be's that think they know it all. He tried to put it out of his mind - he was here to learn, not to get angry.
The next part of the lesson really excited Joey - they were going to learn about at real spells. Professor Vernardis' chalk started writing two words on the blackboard. Reparo, Tarantallegra. He recognised the first word at once. It was a simple repairing spell he had read about in his spellbook and he put his hand in the air as Professor Vernadis asked what the spells did.
Joey didn't know why he put his hand up to answer the question. It wasn't something he usually did - in fact, he usually tried to avoid speaking in front of lots of people as much as he could. He put it down to his eagerness to learn magic and was slightly relieved when someone else was picked, although he would have like to earn house points himself.
The pretty Hufflepuff girl from before interupted again, giving another correct answer, but this time getting 3 points for Hufflepuff. Joey couldn't help but think they should have been his.
They had been given little skeleton keychains to practice  the spells on. They reminded Joey of the sort of thing you bought at a muggle theme-park. By the end of the lesson, he had been successful in breaking - and repairing, much to his delight - the small plastic skeleton. The first time he had the pieces of pretend bone fly back together, he almost jumped in surprise, quickly looking around to make sure no one had noticed.
The dancing feet speel - Tarantallegra - gave him more trouble. After several attempts at getting the skeleton to dance, he had only managed to get it to flick its foot limply, causing it to fall off the table and break with a snap, which he was easily able to repair.
He copied down his homework and carefully put it into his bag with his spellbook, remembering how he had forgotten his History of Magic textbook in class the day before and had yet to retrieve it. As he put his bag over his shoulder getting ready to leave he slipped his wand into his pocket, thinking now that he knew a spell it was best to keep it with him.
