Ariana skidded round the corner, her trainers squeaking in protest as she sped down the corridor, swinging her bag over her shoulder and, very nearly, sending herself crashing into a suit of armour as she swerved round the corner again, glancing at her watch she ran. “Oh no oh no!” She muttered, “late again!” She stopped outside the charms classroom door, gasping for breath and panting, reaching for the door handle. Most of the class had resumed their seats already. Ariana strolled across to her assigned seat, next to a pale girl with long brown hair, who seemed to be trying to perform a levitation charm, she looked quite focused, very much unlike how Ariana would behave in lessons.
Ariana hastily emptied her books onto the desk and got out her wand, glancing down at the feather lying in front of her. The whole class was trying to perform it, waving their wands around. Ariana craned her neck to try and look at the board, but it seemed that the instructions had been explained verbally, for there was only the title and the date written upon it. Prodding the feather with her wand she tapped it impatiently sending gold and red sparks flying out of it. The feather didn't do anything. She prodded it more angrily and her green eyes narrowed in concentration as she waved her wand, waiting for something to happen. She remembered the instructions that the professor had mentioned in previous classes; concentration of the mind, precision with your wand movements, and enunciation of the incantation. Well she definitely wasn't concentrated now. She was tired and irritable and she certainly hasn't got the precision of wand movements right. She tried throwing the feather into the air before hitting it with her wand repeatedly, but no result, except for the fact that gold sparks were sent ricocheting off the desk and towards her, singeing of the ends of her light brown hair and emitting puffs of grey clouds into the air.
She gazed around the class, many other people hadn't got it either, but at least they had some idea of what they were supposed to do. Her eyes landed on the girl next to her, she seemed to know what she was doing. Ariana reached over to her, tapping her on the shoulder, “Umm excuse me? What are we doing? I'm confused, could you help me please?”

Opeila was in her element. The Slytherin just loved charms. It was her best subject and the one she had been excited about from the beginning. Learning spells was just the best.
Right now she was looking at a feather in front of her, lightly frowning as she focused.
"Wingardi-"
Her concentration broke off when the door opened. Opeila sighed and pulled a sleeve up to look at her watch. Five minutes ago this lesson had started, what was so hard about being on time?
She was about to concentrate again, when the late student, a Gryffindor girl, sat down next to the Slytherin.
Of course she had no idea what to do, the instructions where given to the class but not written down, and so the Gryffindor just prodded her feather with her wand, making golden and red sparks coming out of it. Opeila couldn't watch this.
"No, no, what are you doing?", she asked, just at the same time as the girl chose to aks the Slytherin what they were supposed to do.
"We're making feathers fly. Levitation Charm, Wingardium Leviosa. It is not too hard. Just... move your wand like this. Or... similar to this.", she said, putting a strand of hair behind her ear. "Still trying to find it out myself."

“No, no what are you doing?” The slytherin girl asked impatiently. Ariana grinned back sheepishly at the girl, shrugging as she did so. She stared puzzled as she was instructed by the slytherin on what to do. Levitation charm? She frowned slightly watching the swish and flick wand motion. Ariana copied her somewhat reluctantly, her mind was completely lost in thoughts about quidditch and other stuff she could be doing right after this lesson. The Gryffindor had taken to going down to the quidditch pitch to train after certain lessons, bringing friends occasionally, and sometimes venturing down on her own. Ahhh what she would give to be soaring high above the grounds in the fresh hair-whipping breeze carefree and spirited and— her daydream must of given her a glazed look because she was suddenly being snapped back into focus by the sounds of excited yelps and cries from the back of the classroom. Interested to see what the commotion was about, Ariana swivelled round in her seat, her green eyes widening slightly as she glanced over to the back row. Someone had managed to do it and their feather was now successfully floating in mid air suspended by their wand. The girl looked quite proud and Ariana couldn’t help but feel a twinge of annoyance as she turned back round to stare at her motionless feather lying on the desk in front of her. She heard a soft groan of displeasure beside her and glanced sideways to see the Slytherin girl still concentrating on the spell, a small frown noticeable on her face. Ariana tried again, swishing and flicking her wand more impatiently. After 10 more minutes, the professor has now instructed them to read and answer questions from the textbook, and Ariana opened hers, propping it up on the desk in front of her and leaning back lazily.
The slytherin girl was still focused on answering questions and writing things down obediently. Ariana couldn't help but admire her concentration skills. Grabbing her quill and ink pot, Ariana leant forward and yanked her parchment towards her, now determined to be focused. After scribbling a few sentences for question one, she sat up and leant back again. Unfortunately in the process she knocked her inkpot so that it fell towards her, splashing her and her work with ink. The silence in the classroom was broken and Ariana stayed still with shock for a few seconds before emitting a loud “Whoops!” The class started gigging and there was a loud sigh from their professor. After being told that she could only clean up after the lesson, Ariana leant toward the girl next to her again. “Hey, umm im sorry but you don't mind if I use some of your ink do you?” She grinned and sat up a little straighter as the slytherin brunette looked up at her from her work and eyed her skeptically. “I'm Ariana by the way. Ariana Walker. What's your name?” She held out her hand for the girl to shake, and then realising that it was covered in black ink, hastily retreated it and wiped it on her robes, waiting for the girl to respond.
