Every time she walked into the charms classroom, Sarah practically lit up. Her whole body thrummed with the remnants of magic which coated the tables and flooded the air. Despite having spent her entire life surrounded by magic, she was still left in awe so often in this classroom. She could barely imagine what it must be like for those born to muggles who’d grown up not knowing of the existence of the magical world. It was almost painful to imagine – life without magic. And not just for the ease of the everyday things it was so good as aiding, but for the endless possibilities magic had always made apparent to her. She could do so much, try and fail and learn until her heart was content. She grinned as she stepped foot into one of her favourite rooms at Hogwarts, only slightly aware of how this room caused her more joy than most other things in the Slytherin’s life.

When she’d been told she could learn more advanced charms than some of her peers, ones of a higher level, she’d been delighted. Even if she’d not had a hundred other reasons for wanting to return to the castle and leave the Lightwood Manor, this would have been enough. Her drive to learn and master and learn some more was a peculiarly Ravenclaw trait which the snake had quickly realised she possessed in first year. It hadn’t bothered her as much as she thought it might. She was happy in her place at this school, confident she was where she belonged – in green robes, amongst the snakes, in Slytherin. And she could still accept her desire for learning because, even if it was particularly characteristic of a Ravenclaw, so what? She held traits attributed to each and every house here at Hogwarts, even Hufflepuff on the odd occasion.

Pulling her bright hair out of her face and tying it with a black ribbon she’d plucked from her mother’s dressing table before she’d left for the term, she took a deep breath. Her excitement was rare and so often led to distractions she couldn’t afford when casting. Her mind flew back to the start of first year and the mess she’d managed to make when she’d been distracted and levitating a goblet of pumpkin juice. She allowed her lips to curl at the memory for a second, before refocussing on the spell she was currently attempting to master. The summoning charm. She tapped the tip of her wand against her thigh where she stood near the back of the classroom and considered what she’d been reading. Easier to summon an object the caster can see, she’d once read. The Slytherin placed a quill on the desk beside her before walking into the centre of the room. “AH-kee-oh,” She muttered once, letting the word roll around her mouth. She repeated it, once, twice, three times, until she was confident in her pronunciation.

“Right, here goes nothing,” She said before raising her aspen wand and pointing at the quill a few metres away from her. She drew the shape in the air which she’d been practising, an upper half of a circle outlined in the air, as she spoke the incantation. “Accio,” She said, clearly and confidently. It was unsurprising that the quill did in fact come her way and she was quick to catch it in her left hand, the one not holding her wand. She let a smile overtake her face once more and rolled her eyes as she looked down at the quill in her hand – the quill she’d specifically chosen because it wasn’t heavy enough to cause any damage if it flew at her too quickly but had still managed to come sharp end first and nearly impale her. “You realise you could have taken my eye out, right?” she asked the quill with a scowl which lasted all of two seconds before a light chuckle slipped past her lips. “Talking to a quill,” She mused. “I think I need a friend.”

Ileen inhaled deeply and gave the small wand-sized branch she had placed on the table in front of her a stern look. She tilted her head from left to right and narrowed her chocolate brown eyes into concentrated slits. Determination was written all over her young and pale face. A small wrinkle had formed between her brows and now she wrinkled her nose.
She had moved to the other side of the classroom and rolled up the sleeves of her robe. Holding her chestnut wand loosely in one hand, the tip pointing to the ground, the young Slytherin once more brought to mind why she wanted to learn that specific spell.
Yes, she was ambitious and being ahead in spellcasting gave her a good feeling, but in this case, there was more. She remembered a situation that had happened last year in November. She had disarmed someone, but she had not been able to get the wand and thus prevent any further attacks. To disarm an opponent effectively, she had to get the wand before they could do it themselves. So, the Summoning Charm seemed to be the right approach for an follow up spell.

She eyed her setup once more and reminded herself of the correct wand movement, incantation and pronunciation. As many times before, she had practiced the movement and words separately until she was able to perform them without spending much thoughts on them.
But this time she focused on something else, something Bridget had taught her when they had prepared for their first duel. Visualization. She imagined the branch from the table flying through the room and landing safely in her left hand.
Ileen could almost feel the rough bark on her palm and had to grin briefly when she thought of her abilities to catch things. It would probably be less of a problem to summon the branch than to catch it safely.
Opening her eyes, she gripped her wand tightly, raised it, flicked it from the writs and thus performed the upper half of a circle with it. Her eyes were fixed on the branch and her left hand already reached out when she spoke the incantation. “AH-kee-oh!
The branche floated into the air and flew across the room toward her. Automatically she reached for it and held it in her hand in the next moment, completely flabbergasted. She had not expected that. She knew that spells that did not cause physical damage were usually easier for her, but an immediate success still surprised her. She looked at the branch with pride, then the feeling faded and she frowned suspiciously. Maybe it was just a coincidence? Especially since she had caught it too. Maybe she should try it again. Just to make sure.

Name of spell Bandaging Charm (Ferula)
Incantation Fer-ROOL-lah
Wand Movement Tap the target with your wand
A while ago, Scarlett's attempt to learn the Summoning Charm in a random classroom had been a success, and she had proven to herself that she could do it, and she wasn't as stupid as people thought so. She wasn't stupid at all - if she could plot schemes, trick her enemies, join the Quidditch team, the Headliner team and shoot ahead in Charms, surely that proved her intelligence! Scarlett was newly enthused by that prospect, and decided that whenever she needed to learn a spell that she needed, but wasn't included in the second year curriculum, she would visit a random classroom and practice until she had gotten it right and successfully learnt the spell.

After the events of the Autumn Ball, which had been disastrous, Scarlett was determined to learn a new spell - Ferula, the Bandaging Charm. Though it was a third year spell, Scarlett was sure she could do it. She wanted to learn the charm because when the ghost cat and the ghost rider had led the some students of Hogwarts on a chase around the school to find out and solve the mystery of Gaiz Toa and other creepy ghost animals and snarky paintings, her best friend Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin had been injured, scraped by a Matagot and wounded. Scarlett wanted to help, but she didn't know any healing spells and felt useless, so she went and tried to attack to Matagot but missed. She would've been much more helpful if she had known a healing spell, and so that was what Scarlett was trying to do.

Scarlett had thought about what to bring to cast the Bandaging Charm on, and settled on an old stuffed animal she had found in some dark dusty corner, probably something someone had lost. She had rather unmercifully ripped a hole in the doll's leg with the Dividing Charm, Diffindo, before carting it off to the classroom and setting it on the table. She winced, remembering her attempt at the Summoning Charm before. She had mastered it, but gotten hit in the head with a massive History of Magic textbook. Ah well. This spell wouldn't do any damage to herself at least.

Scarlett readied her wand, remembering what she had to do. At least this one was easy. She tapped the doll on the leg and said, "Fer-ROOL-lah!"

Nothing.

Again.

"Fer-ROOL-lah!"

No results. She would have to keep trying. She had heard of people who had learnt a spell in one go, but they were prodigies, masters. She was not.

"Fer-ROOL-lah!"

"Fer-ROOL-lah!"

"Fer-ROOL-lah!"

A small bandage limply shot out of her wand and to the doll, but it flopped and fell to the ground. Scarlett took a breath. In. Out. In. Out. She did what Fiona told her to do when angry. Calm down. Stop tapping the doll too hard, said Scarlett's mental voice, in a perfect imitation of her aunt.

"Fer-ROOL-lah."

Bandages curled out from her wand tip and wrapped the doll leg up. Scarlett grinned, never tired of the magical way magic worked. She left the doll in the classroom before tucking her wand in her robes and heading off for dinner.

Learning Bombarda

Incantation: bom-BAR-duh
Wand Movement: triangular motion

The topic of that day's practice lesson was mildly disturbing, but only to Meenauh. She couldn't understand why the school was teaching such spells to children in the first place. She never understood the Bogies spell or the Slugs spell as if the professors wanted children to become pranksters all over the place. Or Incendio with all the fire already present in the school. She involuntarily shook her head when she was entering the classroom.

Her mother, a former healer, was treating the consequences of explosions of various kinds. So, Bombarda is just the entry point to all the variety of explosion spells. Meenauh's urge to learn as many spells as possible was being countered by her inner values of what should or shouldn't be taught to children. Little she knew at the moment about how soon that spell would be useful to her. But let's not skip the events.

She wasn't particularly late, but a few people were already there, getting ready by filling the spots in front of dummies, set around the classroom.

"Three years, Meenauh, and you're still unable to decipher the logic behind the main stairs..." the snakey voice smirked in her head, which she had to shush out loud, drawing the attention of a few students she was passing by.

After occupying her spot, she drew the wand and waited for the command to start practising. It was challenging because it was a violent spell, and as it turned out, she was only capable of producing those under certain stressful circumstances. She looked at the dummy — it would be really easier to do with a sort of a wall or a bottle... why a humanoid form?

The wand was drawn, eyes closed with a sigh, concentration throttled up. The triangle with the wand moved with the greatest precision several times before the incantation is pronounced. And finally "Bombarda!" (bom-BAR-duh) with the prepared wand movement.

In the same very moment, as the dummy exploded into pieces, Meenauh flinched. Explosions were not fun. There's a loud noise, which is just unpleasant. And then you imagine standing in the epicentre of it and then you just flinch. And she had to repeat it several times. It was practice, Meenauh, why would you think it was called that?

And she practised it on the renewed dummies, one after another, until she got tired from flinching. It had to be the end of practice soon.

Put simply Callie was a terrible singer but her confidence didn't seem to get the memo. Her singing voice often resembled a screeching cat but Callie was either entirely unaware of such facts or opting to completely ignore it. The only real bright side in her incessant singing as she wandered the corridors leading to the charms classroom was that it helped announce her arrival. Granted there wasn't anyone to announce her arrival to given it was still early in the morning but that wasn't going to stop Callie.

The girl was in far too good of a mood to worry about such things anyway. Learning a new spell often put the young ravenclaw in great spirits and given that she'd been obsessing over the new charms for weeks now the thought of finally practicing them was exciting. The singing only stopped once Callie slipped into the empty classroom and unceremoniously dumped her belongings on the closest table. As the light poured through the windows of the classroom Callie let out an unsatified hum, this wouldn't do! How could she practice wand lighting charms when the sun was being such a pain! Usually Callie didn't like darkness all that much but given the nature of the spells she'd opted to try out it made sense to put up with it for once."Stupid sun! Can you go back to sleep for like 10 minutes? Gosh, so rude." Callie complained as she wandered over to pull the curtains shut which was a monumentous task in herself given how tall the windows were and how short she was.

"Ha! Take that sunlight!" Callie announced to the empty room with a wide grin as she fished her wand out from her pocket. As she used a slight slither of sunlight peeking out from the cracks of the curtains to read her notebook Callie spun her wand idly in her fingers. For some it might've been distracting to maintain such movements when trying to read but for Callie it helped her focus on the task at hand. It was no secret the girl was easily distracted at the best of times so she was willing to do anything to force her mind to co-operate. Eventually she released herself from her tiny corner to the centre of the room where she finally held her wand properly. "Lumos shouldn't be too hard..right? Right. Come on Callie! You've done harder spells than this!" She reassured herself whilst drumming her free hand against her thigh. "Lumos Duo!" She announced to the room only to be greeted with darkness once again. "Lumos Duo!" She attempted once more, this time making sure to keep the movements of her wand precise only to be met with darkness once more. This string of failures repeated itself for a while until Callie finally managed to snatch a singular success from the jaws of defeat. Callie slid her wand across from one side to another before pointing her wand to the otherside of the room. "HA!" She let out a laugh of disbelief as she watched the light fill the immediate area. "Take that dark room!"

Eventually after repeating the process again she opted to move on to the second charm she was determined to figure out. It was one she'd witnessed used in duels before so naturally it was something she was more than keen to add to her growing portfolio. This time around Callie didn't charge right in expecting results first time and carefully recited the incantation and practiced the wand movements on their own until she felt comfortable enough. This process took far longer than she would be willing to admit but given the near blinding nature of the spell it made sense to approach it with caution. Her eyesight was already terrible, the last thing she wanted was to make things so much worse. "Ah, right! Come on Callie, you've got this!" She grinned to herself as she shuffled back and forth on her feet to work up the courage. "Lumos Maxima!" She announced whilst flicking her wand, drawing it back and flicking once again.

This time the practice put in before hand paid off judging by sudden light that spilled from her wand and filled the room. "Argh!" She moved to cover her eyes and quickly ended the charm, fully intent on practicing again until she saw the clock. How was it breakfast time already? She couldn't miss breakfast! Those pancakes were to die for! So naturally Callie grabbed hold of her belongings as quickly as possible and dashed off in the pursuit of pancakey goodness.

A free day. Usually most student's would choose to spend their day's off hanging out with friends or catching up on homework for classes. However Henry rather would be learning spells a year ahead his own so the twelve year old would have gotten up from the snape dormitory quite early slip out of his bed making sure not to disturb either his orange feline or bunk mate. Change into some casual clothes with his faded greenish jacket, grab his messager type bag and wand before carefully sneaking out of the dormitory and common room making sure not to wake anyone.

The second year slytherin would bust out to the corridors and take the path that he probably had memorized to one of his favorite places at Hogwarts next to the library and great lake. That place was the charms classroom, a room where he frequently visited to learn third gear spells majority of them were also counted for dueling spells which is why the twelve year old stepped foot into the classroom on his day off.

After losing his second duel against ravenclaw and falling unconscious leaving his third year partner with no assist or help. The second year vowed to himself that he won't lose another duel, while he may have one win and one lose under his belt the boy wouldn't lose again which was why he was there.

Opening his older brother's old third year charm textbook to the chapter on; Depulso. Henry started to read with a wanting of learning everything he could before his next and final duel because he wouldn't make the same mistakes as he did in his second duel. He wouldn't lose, he has a focus and determination only for one thing and that was winning his final duel for his team and house.

Even through Depulso wasn't a dueling spell, the boy was still learning it as he eyed the chapter before without his wand tried pronouncing the incantation for a few times.

" de-PUHL-so! de-PUHL-so," Henry spoke to himself trying to identify if he spoke the spell incorrectly but once he found nothing the second year decided to say it a few more times without his wand, " de-PUHL-so! de-PUHL-so! de-PUHL-so!

Smiling to himself a bit after thinking he has the pronunciation down, the second year would pick up his wand and try the wand movement without the incantation for a while.

The twelve year old moved his wand in a sweep of the wand movement for a few times. Smiling each time he did the movement, sweep of the wand, once he was sure that he got a handle on both the incantations and wand movement the twelve year old would close his older brother's old textbook before taking a few feet back.

Pointing his wand at the textbook, the boy would clear his throat before speaking loudly " Depulso!" while at the same time moving his wand in a sweep the wand movement.

And a invisible force came from his wand and pushed the textbook back rather hard against the charms wall. Smiling toward himself at his spells success, the second year would jog over to the textbook and lift it up before stuffing it in his messager type bag and deciding to go find his friends to tell them of his success with the spell.

Dead Man's Bones

The 17th of December, 2020
Late Morning
Learning Episkey
Reducio
Incantation: eh-PIS-kee
Wand Movement: diagonal line from top right to bottom left

What else could be better on an early morning than practice? Especially, when it was healing magic to be practised. With her mother's background, she had to have it in her bones.

As she entered the classroom, she noticed lots of skeletons hanged up in the air. A freaking horrifying thing to see on a nice day like that. She stood there in shock for a few seconds, before realising it was no skeleton invasion, but merely dummies for the spell to be practised. It seemed Zoe had her own way to teach spells. If one would come closer to investigate, they'd notice that most of the bones on those skeletons were broken in half, or had cracks in them. Some magical force was keeping everything intact and not falling apart — thus simplifying the task of focusing on each of the bones to be mended. As far as she learnt, Episkey couldn't be used to fully restore a completely broken leg bone as it seemed there were more powerful spells for that. But a broken nose or a finger would surrender to the spell.

She chose a skeleton that looked better than others. Even, more good-looking, if it was possible to attach such a subjective to an organised pile of bones. She drew the wand and practised the wand movement first, an easy one, but the flow of the thoughts, healing and compassionate, had to be going precisely towards the place that was to be healed. Indeed, it seemed it would be easier if there would be a person, not this, to heal. But at the same time, if the person would be screaming and twitching, it may be not easy to concentrate. So ok, hello dead man.

Was it a real dead man's bones? Maybe it was just a fake copy, made from materials similar to bones? Like muggles were proficient in making fake stuff, so it could be that. But at the same time, would magic work on something fake? Would it?

The realisation that magic would most probably not work on something fake — oh, the wisdom of the old witchcraft — made Meenauh freeze in motion as she was rehearsing the spell. Was it Professor, who was selecting uneasy ways to practise spells, or was it Meenauh thinking too much?

"Episkey!" she started to rehearse the wording, "eh-PIS-kee", she clarified again, "Episkey," and again.

Now with a combined effort, she targeted one of the small ribs that seemed to be cracked slightly: "Episkey!" she proclaimed with the proper wand movement, and the bone sealed itself, looking nice and fresh.

"Episkey!" she'd turn to a broken finger and the small bone sucked itself into the joint. Wow, actually, a skeleton was a nice touch as the students could actually see the spell work. With all the tissues and skin it would be impossible to see how the bone fixing worked. She retracted all her opinions on the way of teaching and actually praised Professor Fresnel.

She continued to cast the spell repeatedly, going into some sort of healing trance, as fixing the broken was a completing and satisfying sensation that gave integrity to her inner self. Mother would be proud.

It had been a while since Santario had taken up the Charms professor’s time with wanting to learn more advanced spells. Since the duelling club had started, she had both modded a duel and had been in a duel. Moderated by none other than the previous charms Professor, she had sought out this very day to prove that she could be allowed to cast these next set of spells. This next spell was not something that Santario could regale the Professor with a story about how and why she had learned it like Ferula other than forced practice via her grandmother now.

Though admittedly, Santario never really practiced this one at home like she had some of the others, and that was mainly because the more powerful Lumos spells seemed like they would be pretty simple besides needed to put a little more oomph into the spell and concentrate harder to produce and maintain it. Well, now it was time to put her money where her mouth was as she stepped into the charms classroom walking over to the closest desk, she would set her bag down and draw her wand. “I would like to start by casting Lumos a few times first to reacquaint with the spell before attempting the more powerful versions.”

With that, Santario would start “Lumos!” and her wand would light. Followed by a “Nox! and her wand would extinguish. This would happen a few more times before she looked at her wand and nodded, knowing that they were on the same page. “One spell first and then the other.” She said more to herself than she did the Professor that overlooked her practice and who would ultimately, hopefully, approve her usage of the spell a year early. Santario flicked her wand forward before pulling is back towards herself and finished by flicking it forward once more while saying the incantation. “ LOO-mos MAX-i-muh!” A blinding flash of bright white light emitted from the tip of her wand as she shielded her eyes from it. Quickly putting it out, she blinked a few times, trying to get her eyes to focus once more. “Whoa, okay. I knew it was going to be bright, but I did not expect the sun to come out of my wand.”

Santario laughed before settling herself to do it again. “Okay, a few more times.” Again, her wand would flick out, pull back in and flick back outwards. “Lumos Maxima!” Santario was better prepared for how bright it was this time and was able to withstand the intensity of the spell. This would go on a few more times before she switched to the next spell.

This spell Santario was more ready for as she made saw it more kin to turning your wand into a flashlight/torch. She knew that this spell would be a more concentrated version of the original and, thankfully, not as bright as the sun like the last one. This time Santario slid her wand across the ground and pointed it while saying “LOO-mos DOO-oh!” A more focused beam of light emitted from her wand, this time aimed at the ground. Like the last, this would be extinguished and practiced multiple times to prove her proficiency with it. Again her wand would draw a line before being pointed. “Lumos duo!” The projected beam produced itself from her wand as expected. Once she was satisfied and had hoped that the Professor was also satisfied, she would put her wand away. “Thank you for your time, Professor. I am sure I will be seeing you very shortly to start finishing up these spells.” Santario would walk back to her bag and place the strap over her shoulder before taking her leave.

Today was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, even if it was still cloudy and chilly. She had requested the assistance of her friend Alan Vanes today and had asked him to meet her in the charms classroom. Today she wanted to show that she could cast the banishing charm, but she wanted to do it at a training dummy instead of random objects. It was heavy enough that it should act mostly like a human when it came to the spell's effect. Plus, Santario wanted to feel how it felt to cast it at something mostly humanoid without using a real human.

Santario entered the charms classroom to find Alan and the training dummy ready and waiting. “Thanks for coming, Alan. So while this isn’t exactly real-time, what I would like you to do after I am done warming up is to move the training dummy a bit closer every time I fail to properly cast the spell. Of course, I want you to get out of the way afterward, but anything that doesn’t result in the direct push back of the dummy, I want it moved closer, and if it gets to a point where it touches me, then I guess I’m not proficient enough with this spell.” Those were her guidelines, of course, not necessarily the professors.“Sure, San, just let me know when you’re ready.” He grinned at her with more enthusiasm than even she had.

The wand movement was simple enough that it was just a harsh sweep of the wand in the direction of what you were trying to move away from you. The incantation, as usual, she would go over a couple of times before beginning. “ de-PUHL-so, de-PUHL-so, de-PUHL-so… Depulso.” Feeling as confident as she could, she took her place halfway across the room away from Alan and the dummy. Once she was satisfied that Alan was clear of the spell, she raised her wand, duelling face on. “Depulso.” She swept her wand out in the direction of the dummy. A soft white light emitted from her wand and produced energy that went across the floor from her to the dummy but didn’t quite reach it. It was clear she needed to put some more oomph behind it. “Don’t worry, San, you can do it!”

Santario nodded and motioned for Alan to move the dummy closer to her. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath before trying once more. “Depulso!” This time, the light struck out with just enough force to hit the dummy in the shoulder, sending it turning to the side but not away from her. She would cut Alan off before he even started, “No, that doesn’t count, right him and move it forward, please.”

Her brows furrowed with concentration as the dummy moved forward, and this time she pictured one of their faces… One of the three. Depulso!” Her wand flashed out in front of her sending white light careening into the training dummy sending it crashing backward not only into its original position but also onto the cushions that were on the floor surrounding its starting position. Before Santario even had time to react, Alan had attacked her with a hug. “See! I knew you could do it, San!” Santario would chuckle and hug him back while looking at the training dummy with a smile.

The summoning charm was going to be a spell that Santario would request to do outside, given that it would mitigate the damage done to the classroom if she happened to do it incorrectly. The last thing neither her nor the professor needed was objects flying wildly behind her and breaking something. While she had practiced this spell on her own in the duelling room, she had not yet actually gotten an item to fully come to her. Santario had made objects quiver and shake, even move part of the way across the room to her. She had not yet had to fully get an object to sail into her hand. Ironic, isn’t it? Considering Accio was actually her first form of magic. You would think that would have made her a shoo-in to cast the spell, but it was more challenging than it looked.

Santario readied herself as she looked at the objects laid out on the law before her. Her wand gripped tightly in her hand as she took a few deep breaths. “Ah-kee-oh. Ah-kee-oh. Ah-kee-oh.” She took her time pronouncing the words allowing the syllables to be pronounced properly and not rushed. Santario would hold out her free hand while focusing on the first small bottle. Just watching in for a moment and envisioning it coming into her hand. “Accio.” Her wand arced in the form of an upper half-circle in the air, and the bottle started to quiver before flying half of the distance between its original position and Santario. Landing anticlimactically in the grass.

Santario frowned before walking forward, collecting the bottle and placing it in its original position before returning to hers. She sighed softly as she looked at the bottle the way a nanny looked upon a misbehaving child. Santario held her hand out again; this time, she hoped she would have to catch the bottle. With her wand arching high in the air completing the half-circle, she called out once more with feeling. “Accio!” Before she realized what had even happened, the bottle had snapped itself right into her palm with her fingers wrapping around it securely.

She stared at it for a moment as the noises of St. Mungo’s played in her mind. The sounds of an all hands on deck emergency and her mother’s voice calling for silver powder and essence of dittany. Seeing the bottle snaping into her small hand and passing it on to her mother before another nurse took her away. Her throat tightened as she fought off her own emotions while setting the bottle down in its spot and moving on to the second. Santario would practice catching the bottles until the professor was satisfied with her competency.

Santario’s day had started just like any other day; only today, she would be making her final demonstration for the Singing Jinx. Since she was not exactly comfortable asking the professor if she could cast on her and she had already used Alan last weekend… Well, who else would she ask beside her best friend? While it might have been a little cruel to save Cantis for him, San had to admit that she would enjoy this. It was not very often that she, herself, got to make him look silly and foolish. No, he was usually good at doing that on his own by wearing pumpkin juice, and no secretly, she would never let that go.

So the Slytherin Prefect walked silently by her side as they made their way to the charms classroom, no doubt hating every moment and probably rethinking his friendship with her, but after all. Now she would officially own him a favor, something she was certain he would never forget. As they entered the room, they would greet the professor, and Santario would direct him to where she wanted him to stand. “Don’t look at me like that; it’ll be over before you know it.” Piercing blue eyes stared at her unamused as his arms crossed impatiently.

Santario drew her cherrywood wand and practiced her stance a handful of times. For the duelling co-captain it was something she didn't need to do but who couldn't help trying to be a littke perfect?"Can you hurry it up already?” Santario’s right eyebrow arched up as she looked up at Thomas. “Sure, but if I accidentally turn your hair bright pink, I’m not fixing it. Just let me go through the motions here and remember you promised not to dodge.” She rolled her eyes as she started to practice over the incantation. “CAN-tis, CAN-tis, CAN-tis.”

Finally, she would round on Thomas wand levied at his chest. She had her duelling face on, which said all friendship was left at the door because now you are my target. Part of her could not help but think that this felt weird, pointing her wand like him at this, but it was necessary. “Cantis!” She concentrated on the song she intended to make him sing, and allowed the pink light to fly at Thomas. Only it didn’t; it flew into the desk behind him as his laughter filled the air. He was nimble and a hard target to hit if he wanted to be. “Cantis!” She decisively pointed her wand at the prefect once more with the song intended song in mind and sent the pink light right into his chest, interrupting his amused laughter with a rap verse that she had heard while shopping in London.

This time it was Santario's laughter filling the air like a bell as she let it drag on just long enough before performing the counter charm to end the spell.

The first rule, learnt throughout her years at Hogwarts, was to learn counter-spells prior to learning the spells themselves. If there's a fire-making spell, first learn how to extinguish it. If there's a breaking-something spell, first learn how to repair it. The one she'd be practising was from the same category: in order to amplify a sound — first, learn how to revert the effect. Because not being able to cancel the quietened sound is sort of okay, but the inability to stop some vociferous sound effect may be disastrous.

She proceeded to the classroom, a bit later than usual. The common way to utilise the spell was to control the volume of your own voice. The vocal cords, to be exact. So, first, she had to study her own anatomical structure to be precise in targeting. This way the sound would be modified as soon as it's produced. Another way, considered to be less effective be herself, would be directing the wand at the produced sound, but she discarded it for its overall clumsiness.

When she parked at a desk she found a small figurine on a box. So, all her preparations to how she'd be practising the spell were rendered void in a second. The box seemed to be a music box, considering the theme of the spells they'd be practising. Meenauh shrugged and prepared her wand.

The routine went as usual: first the wandless incantation to revise it. The hand movement was unnecessary to revise as it was simple.

"Quietus!" she pronounced it several times and then rotated the handle on the box several times to start the music. It was some classical motive — she wouldn't know the name, but she definitely heard it before. She picked up her wand and pointed at the part of the box, the sound seemed to be coming from: "Quietus!" And the sound was seemingly gone. She concentrated and put her ear really close to the box and indeed the sound seemed to be really weak but could be distinguished. The spell seemed to work just nicely. While she was smiling at her small success, the sound of the music box broke the spell and could be heard nice and clear. She wondered whether the duration of this spell was really depending on the power of the wizard. Was it possible to render someone temporarily quiet for a decent amount of time? Would be nice for some — she'd think of a list of students, who seemed to be too loud sometimes. She would cast the spell a few more times as the practice session was continuing before being completely sure she nailed it just perfectly.

Mexico was a nice place to visit. Father had friends there, which was an unusual thing as their family rarely had friends visiting. So mostly, they were friends of her Father living in various corners of the world. And they were travelling a lot. Not because of the friends being scattered, but just because they loved travelling. Of course, the magical means of transportation were much faster, travelling was only a word — they were basically visiting places. Once, there was a magical duelling event at northwestern Mexico city Guaymas, which they attended or were rather invited by the mentioned friends. She was 9 at that time, but the event was spectacular, sort of a tournament. The proficiency of the duellists was unreachable — they were practically dancing around while sending bunches of fireworks at each other. The announcer was no less spectacular: despite English being his non-first or maybe even non-second language, the words he was choosing made her giggle as it seemed to be more fitting a poetry night rather than a fierce battle with harmful spells.

She was remembering all that as she planned to utilise the spells the announcer was using. The day before when she practised the Quietening Charm, there was a music box involved, but this time, she thought maybe she'd actually put her anatomical knowledge to use and try to modify her own voice's volume.

Inside the classroom, there were big earmuffs, which solidified her intention to try speaking loudly and as she watched other students, it seemed it was true. Most of the students had them already on, so she rushed to do the same. If there was some signal to start practising, Meenauh missed it — because the students started to cast something and she started to hear muffled voices. The interesting part was the understanding that every voice was actually loud, but muffled. She'd probably get temporarily deafened if she wouldn't have put those earmuffs on.

She closed her eyes and did the simple breathing routine — the usual one she was performing to increase concentration prior to practising. After that, she pointed her wand at what she believed were her vocal cords (as studied in advance as she was too much of a perfectionist to made guesses) and pronounced: "Sonorus!" — making sure to put the emphasis on the second syllable after remembering what she read about the effects of the wrong emphasis.

She expected some change in the feelings, but nothing changed.
"Hello?" — ...
The roaring was echoing inside her whole body and seemed to be going around the whole classroom. The earmuffs were against the other voices, but not her own. The volume of the voice seemed to be quite high that her whole body vibrated as she was just saying a simple hello.

"Quietus!" she rushed to cancel the spell, but the incantation came out with the same power. Non-verbal magic was designed to deal with such cases. But for now, she had to work with whatever she was capable of.

It took a while before she repeated casting the spell and saying something because her body kept vibrating from the on-going stress, caused by the unusually loud voice production. Two more times, she thought to herself, and that would be enough demonstration for today.
