A Living-Death Emergency
@Elliot Price

Jo sprinted through the hallways in a blur of black and red, as fast as her tiny feet could propel her, which was not too fast. In her hand was a letter - a letter from Headmaster Lear himself. She'd promised Rafa she wouldn't be long, and she intended to keep that promise.
The Gryffindor tumbled into the Potions Professor's office quite unlike herself - a flustered, frantic mess of a girl waving a sheet of paper and spluttering like a madman with too many words and nothing to say.
"P...Profesor Price!" she shrieked, clutching her stomach as she tried to force air into her lungs. Running was definitely not her strong suit, and she needed a moment to recover - a moment neither she, Rafa, nor Headmaster Lear could afford.
She stood in the doorway, gasping for air and wiping her brow for a good few seconds, completely unable to speak. When she finally gained her composure, a mangled stream of words directed at the professor began to spew from the normally eloquent student's mouth.
"Professor Price. I...um.. We need your help. Er, badly. You see, the Headmaster has been missing for, er, for a while now... and well...we got an owl from him. No! We didn't get it like that, really, but we were, uh, in his room and, like, this owl came and dropped it off and we think it's for us. Anyway you really, really need to come with us, because, we might be in a lot of trouble and also Headmaster Lear has a crush on Umbridge. Everything is really confusing...but please just read this letter."
The girl sank to her knees on the floor, breathing heavily as she tore her hair away from her face and tucked the brown locks behind her ear. She extended an alarmingly shaky hand and placed a letter on the Professor's desk. The letter contained the following message:
"Those are the ingredients for the Draught of Living Death, right, Professor?" she asked him, pushing herself up from the ground and dusting her skirt once she had gotten her breath back.

Reducio
Took long enough for someone to trespass in this office. All of the portraits in my office have been moved to a safe location of my choosing. Keenly aware of your duplicity, I have taken measures to ensure that you would be stopped. Evacuate these premises immediately.
Time is of the essence. Obstinate behavior in this matter will not be tolerated.
Notice of evacuation is immediate. Ogre release imminent. Requisition for the following: downy powdered Root of Asphodel, a sophorous bean, new phial of infusion of Wormwood, green Valerian root, entire Sloth brain and rinsed vial with a stopper. Allowances will not be made, please leave the requested articles in Hogsmede at Hogs Head.

A Living-Death Emergency
Elliot sat behind his desk doing what he did best, reading the latest copy of the Daily Prophet. He occasionally peeked over the top of the paper at the stack of ungraded homework that kept leering at him from the corner of his workspace. Just a few pages more, then he would get started. With a lick of his thumb, he would flick the page over to the Quidditch section. Pressing his round glasses back up his nose, Elliot prepared to catch up on his favorite hobby.
The door to the classroom would burst open, a high pitched screech that carried his name would fill the room. Elliot lowered the paper, his warm brown eyes a bit wide with surprise would meet with the hazel of a young Miss Morgan. The poor girl seemed distraught as she gasped for air and clutched her midsection. Elliot cast the paper aside and began to rise to see what was the matter. “Miss Morgan...” his words would be cut short as the young Gryffindor found her breath.
Elliot simply stood behind his desk as Jo let out a burst of dialogue. His brow furrowed as he attempted to keep up with her. The Headmaster...missing? Students in his office unsupervised? A crush on Umbridge! Dolores Umbridge! She wasn’t making any sense.
“Miss Morgan..” Elliot began again, but before he could continue, she stumbled forward with a letter outstretched. She pleaded with him to read it. Holding the parchment out before him, he gave it a quick look over. Portraits removed, something about an ogre, a list of ingredients the Potion Master recognized as the ones needed for the Draught of Living Death, the Hogs Head?
“Yes, you are correct Miss Morgan.” Elliot replied as his eyes locked with hers. “These are indeed the components needed for the Draught of Living Death. However, I must ask you what you were doing in the Headmaster’s office without his presence. Trespassing is highly frowned upon. This letter, you say it is from him, but there is no signature. Wait...how on earth did you get into his office in the first place?” The Potion Professor asked. His usual warm toned now replaced with a stricter note as he began to sense a wrongdoing.

@Elliot Price

Jo breathed a sigh of relief as Professor Price confirmed the ingredients.
“The lock was broken, Professor. Like somebody smashed the door open. That’s how I got in, but I promise it wasn’t me who broke the door!”
That was the easy part. Now she had to come up with a plausible excuse as to why she was in the Headmaster’s Office, and mere curiosity (and the need to speak with a sentient hat) would not suffice. Detention was fine with her, but if Lady Aithne ever found out that Jo had been snooping around in the Headmaster’s office, there’d be hell to pay. The mere thought of angering the woman sent shivers down her spine - she didn’t want to think about what it would be like to confess that she had been suspended.
“I heard a noise. It sounded like an animal being hurt. I went in to make sure everything was okay, and that’s when I noticed that the door was broken.”
A blatant lie, of course, but completely plausible due to the yowling and shrieking of the single Greg currently being comforted by Rafa in the Headmaster’s office.
“Professor Price, I really don’t mind if you give me detention, but let’s please make sure that everything is alright with the Headmaster first! Those are his words. I know because I checked the handwriting with other letters that he wrote. Please come to his office - they say some really weird stuff and I’m not sure he’s okay.”
She fidgeted with her fingers and nearly broke down in tears. Who knew talking was this hard?
“The Headmaster has been missing for a while now, and... oh! Look what I found in the fireplace!”
Breathing a sigh of relief that she had collected them beforehand, she dumped the contents of one of her robe pockets all over the poor professor’s desk. Ash and bones scattered everywhere. She picked up one that was intact and presented to him.
“They’re Pygmy puff skulls. I think... I think the Headmaster might be in some kind of danger.”

A Living-Death Emergency
Elliot’s scolding look would transform to one of concern as Jo told her tale. It wouldn’t be the first time a Hogwarts’ student had exaggerated an excuse to be somewhere they weren’t supposed to be, but her expression and sense of urgency seemed to hold truth. Young Jo spoke of hearing animal sounds coming from the office. Elliot did not know the Headmaster that well, but his love of magical creatures was a well known trait. No, something was surely amiss as an uneasy feeling crept its way into the older mans belly. That prickly chill that slithers up your spine when the mind begins to put together the disturbing facts.
“Calm down Miss Morgan.” Elliot’s voice would carry a tone she most likely never would have heard from him. It no longer carried the stern note, but it was deep and commanded attention. “No one said anything about detention.” He eyed the roll of parchment in his hand as she claimed to have checked the handwriting. He racked his mind. Try as he might he couldn’t quite remember when he had last seen the Headmaster. It was of course not unusual for a man of his position to be gone for long periods of time. The duties of his office surely went well beyond the boundaries of the school.
However, the next moment would kick Elliot into action. Jo reached into her pocket and dumped out its content on his desk. His eyes widened as his free hand shifted through the ash. His fingers tracing the outline of the tiny bones. “The Headmaster’s Pygmies! Come Miss Morgan. Take me to his office at once!” Elliot scooped up a few of the skulls and made for the door. “With haste Miss Morgan!”
