Not A Graceful Faller
---||o||---
Katrina Walker was not, by any means, graceful. She had great stamina and was decent at casting spells, but strength and agility, were not at all her forte. There have been many times where Katrina had fallen over an ottoman and sprained her ankle or spilled tea down someone's shirt. She wasn't clumsy per say, just not graceful.
There was three minutes until Katrina was supposed to be in Potions and she was racing down the stairs, taking each two at a time. Her eyes were glued to a notebook full of everything she needed to cram for, for the test. She spun around the pole as she went down, one hand on the smooth metal. Almost there, almost there. She managed to dodge a few students coming up the stairs without even having to look up from her book.
Katrina wanted to be a minute early so she could as the Professor again what the last ingredient was in the Drowsiness Draught. For the life of her she didn't remember if it was Valerian Sprigs or Flobberworm Mucus. The stress of not being able to get the answer than getting it wrong on the test was a lot for the second year as she had been maintaining strait O's all year and wasn't planning on messing it up so close to the end of the year.
As she raced down the hall, she ran right into someone, knocking all of their books on the floor, "Ohmygosh, imsosorry," The words came out as one really long word instead of several. Katrina immediately stooped down to pick up the books, instantly forgetting how much she had been in a rush.

Nell had been walking to her Charms lesson - the last one before the last test of the year. She had straight O's in Charms, but she doubted that she would maintain that. She was walking swiftly from Potions, wanting to be early to class. Then, as she lifted her head, she saw someone walking straight towards her. Nell couldn't avoid the collision by any means so she braced for her books to fall. When they did, the girl apologized. "Ohmygosh, imsosorry," she had said. Nell barely understood her, talking so fast, but made realized she had said Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
"Oh, it's alright," Nell responded quietly, picking up the rest of her books off the floor. "Thank you," she said shyly, now face to face with the girl. Nell adjusted her books in her arms, making sure they wouldn't fall yet again. In the end, she put them into the canvas bag that was slung over her shoulder. She faced the girl again. Hadn't she seen her in a class? What was it, Potions? Nell decided on Potions and realized this was that girl who was really smart, and who always raised her hand. Nell, on the other hand, had half the brains of her and never ever raised her hand.

With an apologetic expression, Katrina handed the rest of the fallen books back to the girl. She had completely forgot about her rush to get back to Potions, but now she clearly remembered. Katrina bit her lip and tucked her hair behind her ear.
The girl, a Ravenclaw according to her blue robes, thanked Katrina and she nodded. As the girl put her books in a bag, Katrina glimpsed down at her journal. It had to be Valarian Sprigs! With the answer answered, Katrina was in a lighter, less hurried mood. The lioness quickly slipped a quill from her bag and scribbled a circle around the springs and doodled a quick picture of the pant on the side.
“So, I’m Katrina,” The second-year rubbed her left sleeve, “Sorry again for running into you,“ A blush rose up on her cheeks, she really needed getting this clumsiness under control.
She almost held out her hand for the other girl to shake it but decided against it. Social interactions were still not her forte. Katrina was well enough in a small group where she could be quieter or with someone who already knew something about her, but introductions are still something that she struggled with.
Instead, Katrina put a bashful side smile on her face.

Nell Zoldak wasn’t really looking froward to the introduction part of this encounter. She had never been so relieved when the girl didn’t hold her hand out to shake. Nell would have shaken it, but with reluctance. “I’m, um, Nell,” she said. Great impressions, stuttering whilst saying your own name. “Again, don’t worry it,” she added. Nell smiled back. She closed the bottle of dark black ink from her bag tighter, though it didn’t need to be tightened at all. It was just something she could occupy herself with during this awkward interaction.
“Well, I, um, better to get to, um, Charms,” she said quickly. Just set the record for the most um’s in a sentence, probably. “See you around,” Nell said as she went to Charms. I have to make everything awkward, don’t I? Before entering, she brushed off her robes and somewhat straightened them out. She walked in and sat there, bored. She realized she’s hadn’t had a “conversation” like that in, well, let’s just say a while.When will this class be over? Finally, it was. Then she saw that girl, Katrina, in the halls with a gloomy look on her face. She didn’t really know what to do, but she walked over.

Katrina nodded and was thankful when the girl-- Nell-- left the conversation first. Was it really conversation? They had only said a few words to each other.
Nonetheless, Katrina remembered her rush to get to Potions and swung the door open, wincing as the class was already seated. The second-year sat down at a table and drew out her notes to review them one last time before the test. Now confidant in her answer, the lioness wished that she had talked a bit more to the girl in the hallway.
~~~
Katrina stood up from her desk as the class began to do the same. She had breezed through the exam and was glad that she had gotten inward confirmation on the answer, it had been on the test after all. A more confidant smile was on her face as she left the classroom.
Oh no, Herbology exam was next after lunch, she had completely forgotten. Instantly, the excitement from the test was sucked from her. Katrina bit back a sour expression, seeing the girl again. Nell noticed her expression and walked over.
"I just remembered that Herbology was next. I really need to make sure I get a good grade on that test," The second year had no clue why she was openly admitting this to this girl. It wasn't like many people noticed that she had such exceptional grades or would care that she was worried anyway.
Katrina walked up to Nell and blurted out something. Nell nodded shyly, not knowing why Katrina had just done that. "Well," Nell started, "There's a, um, few minutes before, um, class," she said. "I could help you, um, study really quick, if you, um, want," she said quickly and quietly. She hoped the girl understood her for she didn't want to say it again. I think I just broke the record I set for the most um's in a sentence. She both hoped the girl would let Nell help her because Nell didn't really want to go to her next class, but she also hope Katrina would say no because Nell wasn't keen on socializing.
Nell thought about what she had just said. Why did she even make the offer in the first place? She wasn't quite sure herself, but she decided to roll with it. Worst case scenario, Katrina would be really talkative person and say yes to her offer. Best case? Well, Nell wasn't quite sure. It was a habit, lookin at the downside of things more so than the positives. That was just her. Nell looked up as the girl responded to her, eager to hear what'd she say.
@Katrina Walker sorry this response was kind of bad.
@Nell Zoldak Sorry, I've been a bit off my game today so sorry about Katrina's awkwardness. Maybe wrap up in the next post and we can continue the thread somewhere else?Katrina used to be so outgoing and always had a witty comment or two. Before she had ever heard about Hogwarts she had been happy and had a playfully snarky side. Sure, that was beginning to come back, but right now, more than usual she was wishing that she wasn't so socially awkward. Katrina knew that she should be thankful that her stutter had gone away, but instead she was longing for it as an excuse not to talk.
The other girl seemed nice enough, she was kind of hard to read. Katrina was usually an expert at reading body language and facial expressions, but the first year seemed to be almost unreadable. A part of the second year was puzzled, but the rest of her knew that she simply had to wait a bit to judge her character, make sure the girl wouldn't explode and Flippindo her across the room.
Nell offered to help Katrina study and as much as she wanted the help, she couldn't help but feel like it wasn't the right place. Besides, the girl probably wouldn't know the curriculum being a year younger. Katrina shrugged politely, "Thanks, but I'll be fine. Sorry that just kinda tumbled out," Katrina inwardly cringed, why couldn't she be less superficial?
"I can just study during lunch," Katrina added, hoping to be more polite. Normally her conversations had somewhere to go, but this felt kind of flat. Hopefully the girl would save Katrina from awkwardness again.
Nell felt a tinge of relief when the girl said no to her offer. She wasn't quite in the mood, plus, she had a class to get to. Potions. You see, Nell did okay in Potions, but it wasn't exactly her favorite. She also had a test to do. Nell awkwardly said good bye to Katrina and went to class. Would there ever be a time where Nell Zoldak could be less awkward? She highly doubted it. On that note, Nell opened her Potions book to study quickly before her test. She had studied last night, but a little extra wouldn't hurt.
Nell tore off a piece of parchment and dipped her quill in the ink steadily. Her hand wrote the answers quickly yet carefully. She was determined to get an O on this test. She finally finished and passed it in to the professor. Now she had to wait. Oh, the agony. Well, a bit of and exaggeration but . . . she really wanted to see her score. Finally it came. An O! Yes she got an O! This time, when Nell saw Katrina in the hall, she wasn't very awkward. Both of them had gotten perfect O's on their tests!
Sure, we can wrap it up here if you'd like, unless you want to add to it.
