Conjure a friend out of thin air PV Closed

Vivian is going to have her first transfigurations class now. She does not know what is transfigurations but was eagerly waiting to attend the class. She was sure that just like the other classes she had, this one would catch her interest.

Vivian always preferred to wear uniforms to school as that would make her feel comfortable at the study place. People could see Vivian in loose hair most of the time but when it comes to class time she would plait her long blond hair. She does not care about her looks in class and only cares about whether she is comfortable with that look.

Vivian arrived at her first transfigurations class a little early and sat on the chair in front though she usually likes to sit in middle or last bench. She was eagerly waiting to make some friends here. She was praying to have someone friendly to sit beside her. Then she heard a voice talking to her. Vivian observed the girl. She had brown wavy hair, blue eyes and assumed that she might be slightly shorter than Vivian.

“Yeah sure, it is free here” she replied and dusted the place which was already clean for the brown haired girl to sit down. Vivian looked at her with a friendly smile that reached her eyes. As Samatha introduced herself, Vivian repeated her name many times in her head trying not to forget it. “ Nice to meet you, Samantha, I am Vivian Fletcher” she replied and stretched her hands out for a handshake.

She shook the girls hands, a bit surprised by the formality. Whenever Samantha met new people she would just say her first name, never with her last name. But since she was at Hogwarts she had heard multiple people introduce them-self with there first name, so it must be normal here. "Ohh, yes, I'm Samantha Salwis" she added, hoping it wasn't weird that she had said her last name later.

She quickly placed her bag on the free place and sat down. She placed her notebook, quill and books on the table ready for her first ever Transfiguration class. "I am so exited! I've already done some researched for the class, just like for every other class. I am just so excited!" Samantha looked at her classmate: "Aren't you excited?"

The young Raven was still very new to magic and though that everything magical was fascinating, so she had prepared herself good for every class. The young girl though she had to be prepared more than any other student, she had been clueless about magic for most of her live and felt that she was behind on everything. Samantha liked knowing more than anybody else and felt really insecure about her knowledge of magic. But nothing would stop her from learning more and more about magic.

Vivian has a habit of introducing herself with her last name and she saw many does the same here. Vivian was a little confused and blinked her eyes a few times after hearing Samantha repeat her name once again. Later realised that this time she introduced herself with her last name and whispered ‘ah’ to herself looking down as she did not want her new friend to see her making ‘unwanted’ expressions. Vivian smiled at Samantha as she sat down beside her.

Research... Vivian did not do any research for this class and for any other class. All she knows is every class involves magic, nothing more than that. ‘Should I have done some research too, do everyone does that? Am I the only one who came here knowing nothing ’ she thought to herself biting her lower lips.“ I am excited too but I did not do any research, all I know is the name of the class we are taking... transfigurations, that’s all” she replied to Samantha with an awkward smile.

Vivian was thinking about learning and knowing all about magic and the wizarding world once she enters Hogwarts. She did not plan anything before coming here. Now she had a confused look on her face as she was thinking about whether she should have done some research.

She didn't do any research?" Maybe she shouldn't have told the other girl that she did, know she would know she was muggle-born and didn't know anything about magic. Samantha had a hard time adapting in the wizarding world, since it was only the beginning of the year and she grew up as a muggle.

When Vivian smiled awkwardly, the brunette realized that maybe she had made Vivian insecure because she didn't do any research. Samantha decided to tell the other girl why she did do a lot of research. "Well, I don't think you had to do research. You probably already know a lot about magic." She gave the girl a comforting smile. "I did do research, well because, she had a hard time telling the other girl she was muggle-born, afraid that the other girl would laugh at her. "Both of my parents are muggles, so I don't know anything about magic and I didn't want to be behind on things."

"You probably already know a lot about magic." Samantha thought that Vivian grew up in the wizarding world. That was just an assumption and you should never assume anything.

When the class would start Samantha would be listening to the teacher and taking a lot of notes, because she wanted to give a good first impression. She had everything she needed for the class, and she even had an extra quill in case her first one would brake.

Vivian thought that she made Samantha feel bad about conveying to her about researching, when she heard her reply. She did not expect this. She always tried to make the one she is talking to feel comfortable and let them talk from their heart. How could she make friends if she makes people feel uncomfortable around her? Would they even come to talk to her next time? Oh no, she made a bad first impression. It is not so easy for her to make friends, is it? Wait a sec, did the other girl think that Vivian is from a wizard family? Actually, she is, but she was grown up like a muggle too. Before she could explain, the class started. I’ll talk to you after the class gets over. she whispered to Samantha in a very low voice while looking at her transfiguration Professor, not sure whether she was able to hear it.

Vivian did not have time to talk to Samantha during class time, as she was busy listening to class and taking lots and lots of notes. She saw Samantha doing the same. Of course, she is a Ravenclaw... she must be a lot into studies, Vivian assumed. For Vivian... when it comes to studies, she is so concentrated and will not care about anything that happens around her.

When the class got over, uh, you got me wrong Sam.” she paused. Is it okay to call Sam? She knows that a lot of people does not like to be called by their nickname. Why this much confusion? She decided to ask Samantha itself. Is it okay to call you Sam?”, waited for her to reply and continued “though I am a half-blood, I was grown up just like you...not knowing anything about magic”.

After Samantha had told Vivian she was muggle-born, she didn't look at Samantha like she was stupid. Apparently it didn't matter to Vivian that the young raven grew up as a muggle.

The brunette was happy that Vivian seemed to accept her for who she was. At first she was afraid for how the blond girl would react, but now she didn't have to be anymore.

After class Samantha had almost forgotten that Vivian wanted to say something, because the lesson had been so much fun. "I got her wrong?" Sam's head was still thinking about everything she had just learned, so it took her a second to know what Vivian was talking about.

"Of course, I like it, my father also calls me Sam," the young girl smiled at the though of her dad, she missed him a lot. Even though she hadn't been away from home for a long time she already missed her family. "And it is a lot shorter than Samantha, and it is easier to remember."

"You did?" she was quite surprised, she had thought that the other girl knew everything about magic. "Why didn't you know anything about magic? If one of you parents is a wizard?" Samantha wanted to know more about the other girl, it seemed like they had a lot in common and Vivian just seemed really nice.

Their first impression had been slightly awkward, but maybe that was for the better, Samantha now knew that Vivian also grew up as a muggle. Now they could learn together, since they both didn't know a lot about magic, yet.

Vivian was so happy that Samantha liked and accepted her to call her by nickname. Sam was the first person who is being called by nickname by Vivian, she had not even called her mother with a nickname as she was not able to find a shorter version to it. She did not know why Sam smiled in between but Vivian smiled back brightly. When she heard her talking about her father, Vivian started to think about her father, wondering how he would have called her. Would he call her with the nickname? Or would he go with calling her Vivian just like her mother does?

Vivian replied by saying “ I agree, it’s easier to call you by your nickname and I find it cute... she paused and smiled “ More than that, I find YOU CUTE” she said to Sam. She did find her cute and she somehow made Vivian feel comfortable around her which was rare.

“ Yes. My Father is a...was a wizard, he passed away before I was born and my mother had never talked about him to me. I just didn’t have anyone to talk to about my father.” She said these words with a dull voice looking down at the ground. She paused and again continued after few seconds after making her voice a bit active and bright “I only came to know about all these when I received my Hogwarts letter” and she smiled brightly.

“ So, how is your first day going?” she asked Sam. It was new to both of them and Vivian wanted to know more about Sam. It was rare to find a friendly person but Vivian already found someone, on her first day, she was standing in front of her. She doesn’t know whether Sam is going to become her friend in future or just a passing cloud but now, at this time she likes her and wanted to talk more to her.

When Vivian called her cute Samantha's head turned red. She was right, a lot of people would call Sam cute. Her round face and her length made her look slightly younger then she really was.

Even though the brunette was really cute, she didn't consider herself cute. "I'm not cute! You may think that I am cute, but I am not." Her head was still red when she started talking again: "I may be small, but I am not cute."

When Vivian sadly looked down at the ground, Samantha placed her hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort the other girl. "I'm so sorry, I didn't know that. That must be pretty hard." Samantha couldn't image losing her father, he meant the world to her.

When Vivian smiled again, Samantha smiled to. She liked seeing people happy much more than seeing people sad. Vivian comments about her father made the young Raven curious and she wanted to know more. Like, did Vivian's father go to Hogwarts? How was it growing up with only a mum? Even though Samantha loved her mum very much she didn't want to grow up with only her mom. Did Vivian had any siblings who might have known her father? Samantha had lost of questions, but she didn't want to ask them, because maybe they would make Vivian sad and Sam didn't want that.

"Did a professor also bring your letter? A professor gave me my letter, you know, because my parents are muggles and didn't know anything about magic. Well of course they have read tales and stories about witches, but they didn't believe it. Can you blame them? I also didn't believe in magic, it is just so weird that is is real." Samantha started rambling like normal. Samantha would never forget the day that she learned magic was real. "Did your mom tell you about magic? Or how did you find out?"

Talking was something Samantha sure could do, if you ask her a question you should always be prepared to listen for a long time. "Well," Samantha took a second to think, how was her first day? "I think so far it is going really well, even though I didn't sleep really good last night. You know a new place, it takes getting used to. I also really miss my family, weirdly enough also my sister, she can be quite annoying, but I do really love her. The breakfast was great, there is so many things you can choose of and I really like the classes. Magic is really cool, and we haven't even seen the best yet! Anyway, how's your day?"

Did Vivian say something wrong? She tilted her head to one side in confusion. Why? Sam doesn’t like to be called cute? The blonde knows that Sam is short, why does she have to mention it now? Was there something wrong in saying that someone’s cute? Did the blonde offend her? “Okay,.... but you don’t like to be called cute?” she was not supposed to ask this question, she didn’t decide to ask it. why did she blurt out?. “You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, I understand” she smiled at her slightly wishing not to get insulted or shouted at.

Smiling brightly at Sam when she tried to comfort her, “I have never seen him...so, I am not missing him” her smiled was not like before, it was rather dull. Though she said that she doesn’t miss him now, in the past when she would look at the happy children with their father, or with their big family, she would be distressed and would start to cry, sometimes for no reason. Because of her crying often, the students there would tease and make fun of her. This made her cry even more and was scared to talk to anyone. To be frank, her mother was not able to spend more time with Vivian, she was so busy. After all, her mother thought it would make the blonde lead a comfortable life, she could buy her whatever she wants. But she was wrong, she was able to get her everything she wanted but not everything she needed. She didn’t receive enough love, support, courage to stand up for herself and enough self-confidence. Her mom realised it late, so late and started to spend some extra time with her. Nothing Changed even after that except being loved, but she felt loved, at least now.

Being surprised “A professor? A professor came? I just received it by owl. It seems like my mom knows few things about magic, already....maybe because of my father. I thought I was pranked by my mom” she chuckled. “ My mom when I received my Hogwarts letter” she was stunned at that time knowing that she was a witch.

Sam sure talks a lot but was so entertaining to Vivian. She likes to listen and that too, she liked to listen to someone who talks a lot. It was just a small question but she received a very long answer. If the question was to her, she would answer “it’s good...” it was so short compared to Sam, she tried to add some more words “I was not able to sleep as well, I usually don’t but this time it was because of joy ” it was true. She usually sleeps late at night and she doesn’t know why but she was so happy to entered this place.
