ALPHEUS kept a pristine classroom, with everything in its place. The book shelves were neatly stacked, arranged in alphabetical order, the scrolls were individually tied and kept together in dry spaces to avoid damage, and the desks and chairs were in a high state of repair. It wasn't due to any kind of unreasonable need, so much as the Professor believed that a tidy workspace promoted an effective mind - and considering History of Magics usual topics of research, Alpheus needed as much attention from the students as he could get!
Today is going to be different, The eccentric Professor thought as he opened the door to the class and entered. He carried a closed box in both hands, but the man's walk didn't seem to indicate it was heavy. Hope the kids like this one...
"Good afternoon, wizkids!" Alpheus said loudly, looking over all of the students seated at their desks. He liked that the classes were showing an increase in interest. "Today we've got a treat. You could even say we'll have a smashing time, which is to say we are literally going to smash things!"
The Professor reached the front of the brightly lit class, placing the box on his desk, before he pointed to a student toward the middle of the room. Alpheus raised an eyebrow behind the oversized Muggle fashion accessories on his face, the ones that covered his eyes from the sun, and gave a grin.
"Tell me, genius-in-training, what do you know about the Muggle item called shade glasses?" He reached up, pulling the dark glasses from his face, holding them up for the students to see. Being pure-blood, it was a novelty to see such things.
"Those are meant to protect your eyes from the sun, Professor," The Gryffindor said, smiling. She raised her eyebrows. "But aren't they called--"
"Correct! These are very similar to reading glasses, these shade glasses, so they follow the same principals of being easily broken," Alpheus continued, his voice showing his excitement as he put the glasses onto the desk. He flicked his head, hair falling over his shoulder out of his eyes. "Now brace yourselves... what I'm about to do next might get a little crazy..."
The Professor's face became serious, as he opened the box to his right. There was some rummaging around, the man's arm seemingly disappearing impossibly deep into the cardboard container. After several moments, Alpheus' face lit up and he withdrew a large, metallic, wooden handled hammer; and with a sudden burst of wind, which sent both his hair and cape billowing, the Professor hefted the tool high overhead--
"Protect your eyes!"
--and brought the hammer thundering down... to gently tap the glasses with enough force to cause a crack to appear on one of the dark lenses.
"Today we'll be putting the textbooks aside, and exercising our spell muscles," Alpheus said, looking up as the wind died down and the room returned to normal. "Inside the box, I have an assortment of hammers and glasses. Come on up to the desk, take a pair, and head back to your desks, kids!"
Alpheus kept himself busy as the students did so.
"So, awesome achievers, if you're like me and wear Muggle inspired wear, you might run into the odd occasion where something breaks," The Professor motioned to the shade glasses on the desk, inclining his head and making a sad face. "Unfortunately, some non-magical items can be a little... temperamental, which isn't to say our stuff is perfect, either of course! But, for these particular items, there's a spell that fits a treat..."
The Professor pulled his wand from under his cape, holding it up as he looked about the class.
"Today we learn the Eyeglass Repair Charm, which uses the incantation Oculus Reparo, and requires a single tap of the object from your wand tip," Alpheus lowered the wand, tapping the glasses, and watched as they repaired completely following a flash of red light, the crack disappearing as though time was in reverse. "The incantation can be tricky, so say it with me: OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh... note the strong ock and pah emphasis, stupendous students!"
Motioning to the class, Alpheus grinned.
"Okay, so when you're ready, break your glasses and repair them!" He said, using his other hand to smack the glasses again, smashing them more than previously, and tapped the wand to repair them as he spoke. "Oculus Reparo! Oh, if you get it right, you'll notice a flash of red light, followed by snazzy repaired glasses... and if you do it wrong, well, nothing happens. Basically."
Alpheus picked up his shade glasses, repaired a second time, putting them back over his eyes as he watched the hammers fly, the sound of smashing filling the classroom, and the eager young students repeating the incantation...
What a great day!

Eyeglass Repair Charm, First Year
Professor Wordsworth was the epitome of a Hufflepuff. Kind, outgoing, and full of charm. Sometimes Luna wondered if he was capable of being serious. But life had taught her that his kind of person was truly terrifying when serious. And so any knowledge he had to pass down would be truly invaluable. Even if she didn't wear glasses, she never really knew when she would need such a spell. So here she was to learn yet another charm for her repertoire.
Luna let out a chuckle at the Professor's puns, wordplay was always a treat. He was decked out in a pair of sunglasses. Which he promptly called Shade glasses. Yet another chuckle escaped her. Shades was acceptable. Sunglasses of course. But that was just too silly for her. She'd be sure to let him know what they are actually called. Soon the Professor had a hammer and was quickly proceeding to smash said Sunglasses.
She picked up her hammer, wasting no time on shattering the glasses provided for her. She quickly withdrew her beautiful white wand from her robe, taking just a moment to admire it as she always did. She had even taken note of the Professor's wand too. They always caught her eye.
Looking down at the pieces of glass and the frame all bent and misshapen, she held her wand just a small height above said frames. Letting the wand drop toward the frame she incanted "Oculus Reparo". However, her concentration faltered and her wand missed the glasses. She swore in her head for such a simple mistake. Who missed? Seriously? She readied herself again. This time she focused, letting the tip of the Aspen Wand gently tap the glasses. "Oculus Reparo". A red flash, followed by the glasses reforming into their former shape.
A feeling of elation overwhelmed her. She pulled the glasses up to her face, donning them. She raised her hand. "I don't have any questions Professor. I just wanted to let you know that they are called Sunglasses." Her intent was genuine, no snark anywhere in her voice. Luna believed in helping others with knowledge after all.

Soon the Professor had shattered the glasses and proceeded to explain the spell. More Latin. Speaking Latin was always the hardest part for her. The movement was simple and yet the incantation would be rough. She knew Reparo from the charm already. So now she needed Oculus."Protect your eyes!"

"Excellent effort, Luna," Alpheus said from the front of the class, giving a big thumbs up. "And... what? Sunglasses? But... they aren't bright, they offer shade. I'm so confused!"
Alpheus' brow crinkled as he pondered, thinking about the new name for the item he so beloved...
Knowledge is a weapon. I intend to be formidably armed.

Calling sunglasses "shadeglasses" was like calling earbuds "earphones". Only old people who didn't understand technology did that. Ami found her respect for the teacher slipping slightly, but nonetheless, she plodded up to the front of the classroom to retrieve her pair of sunglasses and hammer. Well, this was certainly going to be a fun lesson.
Returning to her seat, Ami tapped the lens of the glasses like Professor Wordsworth had instructed with the hammer. A thin web of cracks spread across the lens, and judging that it was sufficiently broken enough, she exchanged Mjolnir for her wand. Oculus Reparo, a lovely little variation of the normal mending spell.
Why didn't they teach the kids the variations of Lumos? That would've made a brilliant (ahaha) lesson. They'd have to settle for... fixing sunglasses then. Tapping the sunglasses a couple of times, Ami cleared her throat in preparation to cast the spell. It should be pretty easy, considering she had already mastered the normal Reparo in Charms. This was only honing her skills further, and it would be easy to learn the charm. Quite easy.
"Oculus Reparo. Oculus Reparo. Oculus Reparo. Oculus Reparo!" With a sharp, firm tap on the sunglasses, there was a fash of red light and the web of cracks faded away until the lens was flawless and smooth once more.
Time to up the stakes, because that was far too eay. Picking up Mjolnir once more, Ami simply dropped it on the glasses, watching the lens shatter entirely and the frame buckle and snap. This... now this was a challenge. Trading instruments once more, Ami cried, "Oculus Reparo!" and brought her wand down sharply to tap the sunglasses. The glass wiggled and the frame creaked, slowly putting itself back together.
"Yes, yes, yes, yes..." she murmured egging it on. "Come on..." It was getting there, definitely, but not quite yet. A majority of the glass was still broken, and the frame still looked a little bit crooked. Darn, and she thought that she'd be able to get this right on the first try. "Oculus Reparo!" she cried once more, tapping the glasses. More success, all the pieces were in place now, but it wasn't quite there, yet. "Oculus Reparo!" This time, it ought to work- and it did, the sunglasses were as good as new.
Perching them on the edge of her nose, Ami grinned as she pushed them up higher. Such brilliant fashion deserved better models... she would have to do, for now.

"Very cool!"

It was yet another lesson of History of Magic in which they learned spells that Amadea was at a loss for how they related to the subject at all, but she wasn't complaining, as per usual. She loved learning new spells, no matter how frivolous or oddly specific they might seem. Then again, this spell might come in handy. After all, she was known to be fairly clumsy and had, on occasion, snapped her glasses in half. Of course, she had previously solved this issue by buying another pair, but with magic now in play, she could fix them in a different way.
Amadea found herself enjoying Professor Wordsworth's lessons. He made his lessons interesting and fun, and always made jokes. As Amadea went to the front of the room to collect her pair of shade glasses (wow, Professor Wordsworth was older than Amadea thought) she wondered if this spell would work on any pair of glasses. She decided to voice the question.
"Excuse me, professor," she said hesitantly, raising her hand. "I was just wondering if this spell would work for any type of eyeglass or if it only works for specifically 'shade glasses.'" If the latter were true, Amadea would be slightly disappointed.
They moved on to the practicing part of class. Amadea watched as everyone around her smashed their glasses and began trying to repair them. She felt fairly confident that she could master this spell quite easily. After all, they had already learned Reparo in Charms class, which repaired other objects. Repairing glasses couldn't be too much more difficult, could it?
Amadea banged her shade glasses down on the table, watching the glass shatter into many fractured little pieces and the nosepiece snap in half. In any other case, this would be a dreadful occurrence, but for Amadea, they were perfectly broken. Pointing her wand at the broken glasses, she tapped them and said, "Oculus Reparo." A flash of red light came from the end of her wand and seconds later, the glasses sat on the desk in front of her, in perfect condition. Amadea smiled. It had worked! Amadea wondered if these glasses would be used for anything else. Now that they had been put back together, they looked pretty stylish. If Amadea hadn't already been wearing her regular glasses, she would have rocked the shades sitting in front of her.

Eyeglass Repair Charm, First Year
Amanda watched Professor Wordsworth’s demonstration with an amused grin. She really liked and respected him, even if he was a bit, well, dramatic. Shadeglasses, Amanda thought. That’s a new one. The professor then produced a hammer and broke the sunglasses with it. Amanda wondered if he was purposefully trying to imitate Thor from those Marvel superhero movies, but after the whole “shadeglasses” incident, she assumed that it was merely a coincidence. Amanda directed her attention back at Professor Wordsworth as he proceeded to fix the glasses with a quick spell.
Amanda was excited to learn the Eyeglass Repair Charm. She wore reading glasses and had broken a few pairs in the past. It was an oddly specific spell, but useful all the same.
It was time for the students to practice. Amanda stood up, walked to the front of the classroom, and grabbed a hammer and a pair of sunglasses. She returned to her desk and laid the materials out in front of her. Amanda picked up her hammer and, being careful as to not make a lot of noise, smashed the sunglasses. She then picked up her wand and pointed it at the glasses. “Oculus Reparo,” Amanda muttered as she tapped the sunglasses. Seconds later, she saw a red light stream from the tip of her wand and the sunglasses were fixed. Amanda beamed as she admired her handiwork. It was really only repairing glasses, but learning a new spell always made Amanda feel invigorated and proud of her accomplishment.
Amanda noticed other students asking Professor Wordsworth questions, but she didn’t have any so she remained silent and waited for the professor to walk by. Deciding to mess around a bit, Amanda put the sunglasses on, slouched in her seat, and put her arms behind her head, assuming a relaxed posture. She might as well wait in comfort, after all.

Shades!
If there was one thing that Dorian knew, it was Muggle culture. What others in this room might consider strange or otherworldly, he knew to be the mundane makings of everyday Muggle life, having been so intimately entrenched. He all but pushed other students aside to get first pick of the pairs of sunglasses that lined the table, and when he found one that he felt suited his style, he snatched it up like some hard-won prize along with one of the hammers and rushed back to his seat. This spell that they were to learn sounded particularly appealing to the boy, as he was one who went through pairs of his favourite glasses like nobody's business. He couldn't seem to keep the things for long before they broke somehow, and it had even gotten to the point where he thought that pixies were playing tricks on him when he wasn't paying attention.
Now he'd be able to remedy that problem.
Oculus Reparo. It seemed easy enough. Latin was a language the young hyperpolyglot knew well, though he was still a little rough around the edges at this point. Good enough to understand the meaning behind the words beyond mere context clues. The very moment the professor said "break your glasses", a heavy crash could be heard reverberating along the walls of the room as Dorian brought the heavy hammer down on the glasses that he had rested on the floor of the classroom. The professor seemed to have the same thought in mind, for he too got back to smashing and repairing his own pair, and now it was Dorian's turn to try his hand at repairing the glasses he had broken. It seemed simple enough in theory, but practice usually tended to reveal the true nature of difficult tasks. Wand at the ready and determination at its peak, he tapped the shattered mess on the ground.
"Oculus Reparo."
A flash of red emitted from the tip of the wand, but quickly died and left the remains unchanged. A frown crossed his features as he watched his failure. Then the thought struck him and he spoke it aloud unknowingly. "Maybe it's not broken enough..." As if that was the reason. It mattered not, for Dorian again readied the hammer and brought it crashing down on the already sharded remains, breaking the glasses apart further. Now it would work. He could feel it in the tingles spreading through his arms as he held his wand tightly. "Oculus Reparo." Just as before, a flash of red revealed signs of the spell's wish to work, and Dorian drove the wish home with his own intent. The glasses quickly reformed under his magic's ministrations and in a few short seconds he had his glasses back in pristine condition, looking just as good as, if not better than they did before.
Content, he leaned back in his seat, donned the glasses and assumed a model pose.

A soft shriek escaped Lucy's mouth as her insane professor smashed sunglasses for his demonstration. Her hands flew up in front of her face, instinctively shielding herself from possible bits of flying glass. Alas - no - he had not hit the glasses that hard. A blush tinged her cheeks and she quickly jammed her hands under her thighs as if to punish them for betraying her. No one gets scared over someone breaking glasses, she chastised herself, hoping no one heard her scream.
By this point, she had observed him repair the glasses with the charm Oculus Reparo, but she was still focused on her embarrassment. People were probably judging her as a typical Hufflepuff now. Getting scared of glasses and hammers. Stupid. She joined the line to retrieve a pair of glasses, purposefully avoiding eye contact with other students. It wasn't until she went back to her seat that she realized she forgot the hammer, too. Head hanging low, she slinked up to the front and snatched up a hammer before rushing back to her seat. The day had started out so well, too. She wasn't accustomed to feeling humiliated, and instead of moving on like she normally would, she was wallowing in it.
She halfheartedly broke her glasses with the hammer, splintering the frame and cracking the glass. Raising her wand, she mumbled, "Oculus Reparo." Nothing happened. Irritated, she jabbed her wand at the glasses sharply and enunciated her words out of irritation, "Oculus Reparo!" A flash of red light shot from her wand and the glasses snapped back together as if sensing her irritation. Ah. Finally, something that had gone right. With this small victory, she finally thought about the spell they were learning. Why did they need to learn this spell when they already knew Reparo?
"Professor?" she called, "Why do we need to learn this spell if we already know Reparo? After all, we don't have... Chairo Reparo to fix chairs or Window Reparo to fix windows. Reparo already works on those things. So why do we need a specific spell for glasses?"

"Good questions, Lucy," Alpheus said as he paused, thinking with a tap of a finger on his chin. "I suspect it has to do with the creator of the spell finding it more effective to that particular item? Perhaps the small parts?"
The Professor grinned as he leaned in and whispered.
"Or maybe the creator just wanted to put their name on a charm, for a bit of fame? Who knows!"

Shadeglasses. Was he okay? Eris had heard of purebloods calling common objects random names, but shade glasses? That was an all time low. Shaking her head, red curls spilling into her face, Eris followed the line of students towards the box of hammers and glasses. When he said they would be using spells, Eris had imagined they would be doing something more.. fun. And when he said smashing, Eris really thought they were going to weld the hammer like Thor! But, no, they were learning how to fix "shade glasses."
With a huff, and a long winded sigh, Eris sat back down in her seat and picked up the hammer, setting the glasses below it. Even if the spell wasn't that great, smashing stuff was always fun. With a grin bubbling up to the surface of her face, Eris hammered away at the pair of glasses, until shards of the poor shades were all over her glasses, and it was more than apparent that the poor glasses were broken beyond repair. Well, they weren't broken beyond magical repair!
Setting down the heavy hammer on the side of her desk, Eris turned to study the glasses.
What was the spell again? Oh yeah, Oculus Reparo. It just needed a tap, and it was quite a stupid spell, but who was Eris to complain? As long as she got to smash stuff, the girl was not complaning.
Holding her wand out like a hammer, Eris slammed it down on the glasses with a sharp tap. "Oculus Reparo." Nothing happened to the girl's chagrin, as Eris let out a hiss of anger, and held her wand up again, prodding at it with her other hand. Was it working right, or was she doing something wrong?
It wasn't a hard spell. No, all she had to do was point her wand at the glasses and say the spell. Hmm, maybe she hadn't said it right. Glowering at the glasses, Eris tried again, wielding her wand like Mjolnir. "OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh." She made sure to say it right, before pointing the wand down at the glasses, "Oculus Reparo!" Eris chanted again, watching the glasses mend themselves, with a bright flash of red light.
Grinning, Eris held up the sunglasses, testing to see if they were really fixed. As the Professor walked past, Eris let out a fake cough. "Uh professor, you do know they're called Sunglasses, not shade glasses, right?" the girl said, with a grin fixed onto her face at the opportunity to correct an extremely strange professor.

You've learned the spell!

"Awesome effort, Eris," Alpheus said gave an approving nod. "Excellent sounding of the incantation."
The Professor grinned as he leaned in and whispered, as he tapped his glasses with a finger.
"And you're not the first student who's mentioned these are called 'sunglasses', but I still don't know... could be a prank on a poor unsuspecting Professor."

Eyeglass Repair Charm, First Year
Tedrick listened carefully as the lesson started, glancing at the mysterious closed box and then back up at the cheerful Professor who was beaming and being an overall energetic person. What was it that Uncle Vincent had said while downing a huge mug of coffee? Ah, yes... never trust the cheerful ones. They will always have something up their sleeves. His suspicions were somewhat confirmed when Professor Alpheus suddenly pulled out a pair of sunglasses and a large hammer; as the man raised the tool to the sky and then brought it down forcefully, Tedrick instinctively brought up his hands to shield his face... only to be left feeling stupid when he realized that the Professor had only created a small fracture on the sunglasses.
Haha, silly me... The young wizard got up with the rest of the class and grabbed a pair of glasses and a hammer before sinking down in his seat and watching as the Professor fixed the glasses with a single tap of his wand. Soon, it was time to actually try out the spell, and Tedrick couldn't help but feel a little hesitant as he stared at the sunglasses. With a small sigh, he raised the hammer and tapped the glasses half-hearted, only succeeding in scratching the surface. Trying again, Tedrick whacked the frame of the sunglasses but nothing happened. The hard part was supposed to be casting the spell, not breaking the sunglasses! Frustrated, Tedrick raised the hammer above his head and brought it down on the glasses, smashing it with a loud crash.
With a satisfied smile, the boy quietly poked the mangled mess with his wand and focused. "Oculus Reparo. Oculus Reparo!" Not a single shard of glass twitched and Tedrick furrowed his brow, prodding the sunglasses a couple more times. Maybe he was being articulate enough? "OCK-you-lisssssss re-PAR-ohhhhh! OCK-you-liss re-PAH-roh!" Tedrick jabbed his wand at the sunglasses and a bright flash of red light appeared as his glasses magically patched themselves up. Putting the sunglasses on, Tedrick looked up at the Professor and gave an awkward thumbs-up; he didn't have any burning questions on him.

"Yes, you got this, Tedrick," Alpheus said as he returned the thumbs up, showing no awkwardness at all. "I expect good things from the new First Years, and you're off to a great start, all of you!"
The Professor grinned.

Eyeglass Repair Charm, First Year
Alan followed the professors movements during the class and was amazed by these Shade glasses. He totally needed one of those... He watched as the professor shattered the object into tiny pieces and flinched at the sound of the hammer hitting the amazing object- only to realise it was not hit as hard as he expected it, so the professor could easily repair it afterwards. With an excited smile he took his wand from his robe's pocket and twirled it between his fingers. He only waited for the professor to allow them to start casting the spell before he stepped to the shade glasses. He pointed his wand at the small object and said "Oculus Repahro" only to notice that nothing would happen. Remember Alan, pronounciation is key. Don't forget that. He took a deep breath, blushing from embarrassment as he didn't got it right away. 3, 2, 1.
"OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh" he said with all the confidence that he could gather, pointing his wand tip towards the shade glasses that were on the desk. A flash of red light appeared from his wand and second after the shade glasses repaired themselves. Proudly Alan grinned staring at the Muggle object.
"Professor may I ask were to purchase such an object? I never saw it anywhere and would love to have one of those..." He asked nervously.

"Awesome efforts, Alan," Alpheus said as he passed his desk, smirking. "I see the call of shad--sunglasses--whatever they are, has reached you, too..."
The Professor grinned as he gave a finger gun to the student.
"Consider them yours!"
