It was a new year at Hogwarts, though Kels couldn't yet say he survived a whole year working there. He had answered to the call for a new nurse last November, and since then he started to understand why. A lot of the staff seemed to only last so long before something took them away. There was clearly a shadow over them, like something was trying to have influence over them. Not that he had any proof, but with the things he saw, he was surprised that a full blown Ministry investigation wasn't happening. Or maybe it was, but he wasn't aware of it? Well, either way, there was something about the castle that became more unsettling the more familiar it became. Not only that, but he had noticed a serious degradation of his mental faculties. It started with slower sudoku times, and after that, he had started giving himself regular mental acuity tests. He'd forget them sometimes, look at notes he wrote and forget writing them. It was scary, his memory was usually so on point. With shadowy monsters attacking common rooms and a black curse in the veins of children, it was the last thing he needed. Back at home when he felt lost, he would join his mum in the gardens and ask her about what she thought. It always made him feel better. Alas, he had no garden to go to, and his mum was miles away. At least he had Fromage, who currently sat quietly in a breast pocket. He figured if anyone would like a trip to the greenhouses, it would be her. Think of all the friends she could make.
There was a new herbology professor, who he knew minimally from staff introductions at the start of the year. He wanted to get to know him better sooner rather than later, especially since he needed potion ingredients all the time. There was the storeroom of course, but he wasn't always just making the potions and salves that he needed stocked for general use. He was still a young experimental scientist, he had special needs. All he really knew about the guy was that he was American, which must have been great for Atticus and Kit. Were Professors coming from America because British Professors didn't want the position anymore?
It thankfully didn't take much time to find him, as he was doing some kind of work on the plants in one of the first greenhouses he checked. His moving figure was easy enough to see through the branches of the various sleepy plants, the classes were over for the day and the sun was heading towards setting, so Kels could relate. He knew the plants well enough to know they weren't going to lash out at him if he approached. At least not the ones nearby, you always had to keep an eye on plants.
"Hey Tuesdee!" Kels would smile and wave, though it turned into a swat when a flying insect started getting too friendly with his face. "Ya got a minnit?"

It hadn't taken Tuesday that long to get settled in as a professor in Hogwarts. To be fair, he only brought along a backpack stuffed with clothes and a couple of trinkets from his past, so there wasn't much for him to get situated. However, the man was currently searching for a single item, which was rather annoyingly avoiding his prying eyes. Tuesday had lazily tossed the bag to the side of the overly large desk in the Herbology professor's office. Its contents had been emptied on the desk, only to have been discarded haphazardly to the side. Finally, with a pile of nonsense that Professor Irons had built on the desk, the man was able to spot the missing item that he had stowed away for safekeeping. Sadly safekeeping in this sense meant that he would have the worst time trying to find it.
Pinching the small item between his thumb and index finger, the American raised it in front of his face. There between his fingers sat an American one-cent coin, a penny. This penny, in particular, was minted in 1966 and had a single punched hole on the side, right in front of President Lincoln's head. Obviously, it had little bearing on pure-blooded Wix affairs, but his mother had picked it up on a walk through Savannah and offered it to him. It was one of the only things he had in his possession that his mother had given him. Supposedly muggles say that these little coins can be lucky. Growing up with his parents was unfailingly entertaining. They never put much value into physical possessions and preferred to live in a 'natural environment.' In this case, a natural environment was having plants overgrow his childhood home. There were no family dogs or cats; the Irons family barely had an owl. Instead of animals, Tuesday had two Screechsnap plants. One was affectionately named 'loud mouth' and the other 'Charlie.' The first name was self-explanatory. Loudmouth was a loudmouth, and Tuesday just liked the name of Charlie. Simple as that.
Now with his lucky penny in his hand, the man smoothly threaded a tiny bit of twine through the hole in the coin. Then, pulling the looped cord over his head, the man began to walk out of the office and into the main greenhouse. With the penny now safely secured around his neck and not safely secured at the bottom of his backpack, he was ready for an evening of relaxing gardening. But the day had been so busy, Tuesday had only just found time to look for his trinket. He had still yet to take the necessary actions to keep the mundane plants alive.
However, as he brought his eyes up from his toes, the man caught sight of a particular nurse. Mr. Kelsey called out his name, though his accent did make him chortle a little bit. But, at least it was the right day of the week. "For you, Mr. Brumby, I'll spare a couple." With a slight smile, the man would walk forward with hand outstretched.

Once he was technically allowed to stick around, he dunked his hands in his pockets, stretching his shoulders a bit and looking like he was getting comfortable. "Thanks, mate." He'd grin, excited to be talking to another person again. Kids were cool and all, but they did not hold the best conversations. Most of them talked to Kelsey like he was their therapist, or about how their bones hurt or they couldn't sleep. Not that it wasn't about what he was expecting when he picked his career, but at least with adult patients they might tell you an interesting story every once in a while.
"Great place y'got here." Kelsey gestured outwards, there were a hefty number of greenhouses out there, and even more plants beyond that. Lord knew what grew in the Forbidden Forest. "When I first came here I wanted t'live in the greenhouses. Do they let you sleep here? Wait. Could I sleep here now?"
Kelsey's gaze was a thousand miles away, the irreverent memory had morphed into a flood of ideas all too suddenly. It was one of those times where he could sense he was about to go overboard, when ideas morphed into increasingly drastic situations. He scratched at his stubble a bit while Tuesday replied to his nonsense (if he did), actually making eye contact this time. He smiled as he thought about digging a little burrow somewhere hidden in the dirt somewhere, but he wasn't dumb enough to share every impulse for vandalism he had.
It was around then that a sound croaked from inside his sweater. "Oh, can I let my frog hop around?" He would shortly look serious. Some people had a thing about frogs, so it was always a good thing to ask before whipping one out. He would let her loose if given permission, auto-pilot starting to work on the plants that needed cared for nearby. He had so many questions he wanted to ask, it was like they were overlapping each other coming out of his mouth. Actually, he had already forgotten why he had come over in the first place. Maybe it would come back if he stopped thinking about it.

Even though Tuesday hadn't known Kelsey long, but he got the impression that he would like the man. But then, it dawned on Professor Irons that choosing a nurse position at the premier school of Witchcraft and Wizardry was probably a taxing position. Teaching children is one thing, but having to deal with their issues is a different beast entirely. There was a tiny twinge of sympathy in the man's chest, but thankfully the thought passed quickly. Tuesday would nod politely at Kel's thanks.
"Thank ya', pal. It's startin' to feel more like home every day now." Kelsey's excitement was contagious has more questions spurted from the man. As the nurse continued to speak, Tuesday sauntered over towards a line of the non-magical plants, chuckling. "I understand why. I'm pretty sure it would get old living down here if you weren't exactly used to it. That bein' said, feel free to look and stay. My room is just through the office, I could set up a cot, or somethin' for you." The man raised an eyebrow as if to question if he was earnest about staying in the conservatories. The man's offer was a real one. He didn't mind the company. The odd thought of having another person staying with the plants made him smile. It would just be like how it was when he was a kiddo. Pulling his Poplar wand from his pocket, the man would tiredly point the wand at one of the plants in front of him. "Aguamenti." Like a water spigot, clear H20 started to pour from the tip of the wand.
"Oh, frog friends are more than welcome." The man said in response before pulling his wand towards another plant. "I'm sure you know this, but frogs are very helpful in a garden. They have the capacity to eat over one hundred insects a night! Hungry lil' fellas." He was thinking about human's green friends as he once again switched to the third plant in a line. It was like counting sheep....except it was frogs that were jumping. If you thought about it, that makes much more sense. Have you ever seen a sheep jump without cause? No! Frogs jump all the time! It was their primary source of transportation. "So was talking about living down here with me your only question? If so, I should've given you less time." Tuesday chuckled at his own lil' joke, he glanced up to his newfound friend.

Tuesday seemed to vibe. Not only were they already pals, he actually (practically) invited him to a sleepover. Kels' hands would shoot from his pockets to his head in utter disbelief. "Yes! Right on! Yes!" He'd have ten times the enthusiasm in breakneck speed, his face showing unmitigated delight. "Totes set me up a cot. I'm hype."
He'd naturally cool back down as his attention was drawn by the methodical treatment of the plants he had been tending to. With renewed awakeness and interest, he looked around the greenhouse for where this office might be like a curious meerkat. Pulling Fromage out of his pocket, the lumpy load was released upon what looked like completely harmless plants. When Tuesday started listing out fun frog facts, Kels' felt compelled to contribute.
"Yeah! She's a bug's worst nightmare." He said, nodding along sagely and talking as though the two of them were discussing a dissertation. "Did'ya know frog's don't drink? They absorb t'water through their skin. Being an amphibian would be fantastic. God love 'em, tiny fat beasties."
Tuesday pulled him out of his frog-related ranting with his question, to which he started to stare off into the middle distance in deep scrutiny. Certainly if he stayed motionless and quiet long enough, it would come to him. Just... wait for it... to come back... it is nearly... Just then, his head shook, showing a brand new, bright expression.
"Right! I came here to freeload off you." Kels said casually, his smile returning, proud that he remembered. "You have any garden space yer not usin'? Enough fer, say, a small assortment of vegetables I like t'eat?"

Brumby's reaction only brought Tuesday to attempt to cover his smile with a hand. The man's excitement was contagious, like a yawn or a giggle. This man was awfully silly, and Tuesday loved it. Unfortunately, the majority seemed to be more sour than happy. The first man that popped into his mind was, of course, Mr. Halford Booth. That man always seemed like he was sucking on sour candy. All work and no play make Mr. Booth a dull boy. However, boring men sucking on lemons was aside from the point.
Kelsey knew his stuff. Many people treated frogs as if they were pests, but they were the complete opposite! Maybe they were a tad bit noisy, but hey, a little bit of noise never hurt anyone. "I didn't know that, but I can confirm I've never seen a frog take that big ol' tongue of theirs to lap up some water." Glancing down at Fromage, the Herbology professor nodded and gave a little wave to the toad. "Welcome, miss toad, to my lovely home. I assume you'll love it here as much as I do."
After redirecting the conversation back to the original subject that Kelsey had in mind, the question didn't necessarily shock the Herbology professor. Instead, another chuckle sprouted from the man, "Lemme think..." The American paused for a moment to place a thumb and forefinger against his chin. The age-old tradition of looking thoughtful while not having deep thoughts. At this point, it was more of a habit than an actual attempt to look a certain way. His father always did it growing up, so he figured that it just rubbed off on the man. "I believe that greenhouse five might have some space. I would be careful. However, I would take a bit of care going in there. Some of the plants do have a mean streak." Tuesday didn't know Brumby that well, but he seemed to be trustworthy enough, plus the man knew his way around the plants in this conservatory. "Plus, it'll be nice to have another green-thumbed fella' around. Maybe you can help out around here too?" As the man spoke, he motioned to Kelsey's watering activity.

The two of them lit up the previously silent greenhouse with the sounds of tickled laughter, one that the room was likely used to with children always running in and out of it. A few of the more animate plants paid minor attention to the swell of non-plant life waking up the sleepy scene, no less the enigmatic croaking of the friendly frog.
Kels would nod emphatically as Tuesday continued, snort-laughing at the image implanted in his mind of a frog lapping up water like a cat. "Pahahaha, oh man... that is rich." He'd be charmed by the fact the professor would find fit to introduce himself to Fromage, a formality few offered despite the fact she totally deserved it. "I'm sure Miss Fromage appreciates the opportunity t'use yer facilities, Sir Tuesdee."
To Kels' brusque demand, Tuesday appeared to accept it quickly, to Kels' surprise. He figured he might be asked some questions or lectured some rules, but apparently Tueday was a very laid-back, trusting guy. How convienient! There was nothing better than people who were open-minded and generous... those people were called 'bros'.
"Mmhmm, mmhmm. I got it, that's rad, yeah." Kels would excitedly accept the kind offer, while simultaneously letting his mind run with the possibilities. He would have to see the space he was mentioned to know just how many things he could plant. The amount and depth of the dirt would matter too, taking care of plants was a serious business, and one Kels was well prepared for. "Y'got nothin' t'worry about, I been growin' plants with my mum since I was a babe. I will one-hundred-per-cent sleep, eat, an' work in here."
After flashing another big, self-confident smile Tuesday's way, he caught the glimmer of his unique necklace sitting on his chest. It was American currency, he was sure, but it didn't look like intentional art or jewelery, more like a token. "Hey, that's a funky accessory." He'd point at it to make it unambiguous what he was talking about.
