Blood in the Water
@Alaric Equinox. Partaking in errand Love is in the Garden
February, a season of love. Love of a spouse, love of a friend, love of a significant other... So many types of love: Philia, Eros, Agape, Storge… among many others. The Greeks had a good handle on the exact impressions that they wanted to convey to those around them, and there was nothing that Piérre wanted more than to share that feeling of belonging with others, and especially with someone who seemed to be having it rough recently.
Enter Mister Alaric Equinox. Being raised to a position of Head of house, balancing a class that was sometimes disliked by students, and dealing with a rumored death in the house that he had just been appointed to seemed impossibly difficult, both mentally and, well, emotionally.
Enter the little Gryffindor who was climbing up the stairs to the Astronomy tower near twilight, carrying with him a bundle of closed fuchsia buds. Flowers that looked as if they were dead. If one knew a little more about botany or were simply more willing to look between the lines, however, one would discover that these flowers had much more to them than what they first appeared.
These were night-blooming water lilies. Flowers that would only open at nighttime and when they were properly cared for. Piérre had hoped that he would have been able to collect them root and all, so that he could put them in a pool for the Astronomy Professor and Head of House Ravenclaw, but alas, that had not been possible, and instead Piérre had been forced to turn to the second best thing, being that he pluck them at the stem and place them in a wide vase, large enough for their petals to neatly spread and flaunt their brilliantly bright colours.
It had not only been their tendency to bloom at night, however, that had inspired Piérre to choose them, but it had been the fact that they were a rosy and reddish hue, almost like blood, beautiful in the water, like droplets of the lifegiving stuff. Quite appropriate for the the Dhampire professor who loved the night sky, Piérre thought.
He hadn't, however, given thought to the fact that Mister Equinox could take the gesture as offensive, but in the boy's mind, he simply wanted to do something kind for someone who could be in a tough position in the moment. He just wanted someone else to know that they were loved, even if they didn't love him back.
It had been somewhat rocky with Mister Equinox, especially in the Masquerade which had taken place in October, where Piérre had tried to help but had instead only received a little more than what he felt was spite from the Professor he quite admired, to the point that the lad hardly ever spoke in Astronomy. This was more of an apology gift, even if Mister Equinox didn't realize it.
Mounting the last few steps, and stopping short of the classroom and upper tower, which Piérre knew full well would offer a detention if he entered, the young boy let out a slightly tense sigh as he tugged at his collar, which was blue. Ravenclaw in honor of the Professor he was going to gift the flowers to.
Setting the vase down carefully, and observing that the sun was already gone over the horizon, Piérre watched as the first petal flicked outward, signifying that the rest would soon be following suit and blooming in of their rosy glory.
With a soft smile, Piérre rearranged the flowers in an appealing way, scribbling down a small note and sticking it with the rest of the night-blooming lilies.
Mister Equinox,
I know that I don't talk to you often, and I'm sorry for that. I just wanted to give you these flowers as a token of apology for my conduct at the Masquerade, and I wish you luck in your new position!
By the way, these are night-blooming lilies, they only bloom at night, and I thought it would be something you thought would be cool.
See you in classes!
With a final flourish of his quill, Piérre placed the note in with the flowers and then clapped his hands excitedly before sighing with relief and excitement of a job well done.
Glancing around, as if worried he would be caught, Piérre shoved his hands into his pockets and then left the tower, his little gift prepared to pose as a pleasant surprise to Mister Equinox.
