Today was a special day, a chance for a bit of romance or platonic love. It was an opportunity to have a little bit of fun and make room for love in your heart, whether that was a new blossoming relationship or to help grow an old one. Love was a powerful emotion, capable of achieving great things. This event was the push that was required to help those in need to make that first step, to find a bond that they could treasure for the years to come. Maybe people will find their childhood sweethearts here or build the foundation of a bond that only grows.

Perhaps that was too optimistic. Nonetheless, this was a way to escape from the drama and angst, a chance to just have a little bit of fun and have a cute date. And what better location to spend with someone than under the stars?

Entering the Astronomy Tower, students would see the familiar staircase decorated with floating paper hearts that gently spun around in the sky. Following the trail of hearts up the staircase, they would enter into the Astronomy classroom at the top of the tower. The entrance to the classroom had a large arch made from paper flower roses in different shades of pink and red around it.

Walking through the arch, people will be greeted by a very different decor than they were likely used to seeing at the astronomy tower. Heart garlands were draped on the edge of the tables and paper hearts floating in the room randomly. There was a sign on the side, saying "please take one". In smaller text, it also said, "You may take up to one of each if you would like".

By the sign, people would see three main options. The first was a vase of pink roses. If anyone looked carefully, they would notice that the thorns had been cut off from the stems. Taking out a rose, they would notice a small label attached to the stem. The second choice was little bags of sweets. A transparent bag holding a small variety of heart-shaped chocolates or sweets. There was ribbon around the bag that tied it shut and a blank label on each bag. The third choice was an eggless cupcake, with glitter icing on it that looked like a rose. On the cupcake case, there was a blank sticker label here too.

When someone took one of the items (or multiple), the blank labels would start to change immediately. They would see words start to form on them. It would give them a number. That was it. A number.

Looking up, they would likely spot a room full of picnic blankets scattered around the area. There was also a foil heart-shaped balloon that came in white, pink or red. They had a small weight on the bottom of the strings to prevent them from flying away. On either side of the balloon itself, they would see a number.

It was clear that they were supposed to go to the respective number to meet their blind date.

On finding their matching balloon, they would look down to see there were two cushions on top of the picnic blanket, with a hamper in the middle. The hamper itself contained a variety of snacks: biscuits, chocolates, scones, cream, jam and cake. There were also some small sandwiches, in case anyone wanted something a little heavier. For drinks, there was a small teapot of hot water that was magically kept hot in the hamper. They would find a small selection of teas, as well as hot chocolate powder in the hamper too - with sugar and milk. For those who preferred a cold drink, there was also water and juice available.

It was definitely on the colder side up in the tower. Being wrapped up in a coat and some gloves would probably be ideal. Hats and scarves would be a decent idea too. After all, the sun had set and it was the middle of winter. However, the sheer number of people around as well as the fireplaces helped to add a bit of warmth to it that prevented it from being freezing. People would not need to wear snow boats as it was not freezing by any means. However, it was definitely suggested that people dressed up warm for the evening.

Sitting down and looking up, they would see the beautiful starry night sky showering over them. Anyone who was good at Astronomy might be able to name some of what they see.

Valentine's Day. One of those holidays where people express their love for each other via candy, cards and flowers. How romantic.

Had she known there was going to be something happening that was Valentine's Day themed? Yes. Did she want to go? Not particularly. But there had been rumors of a Valentine's event that was going to be happening around school.

Those were just rumors, but then again who would want to be left out? Not Annie, single or not she wanted to go. And totally not just cause of the food. Her stomach grumbled in disagreement. Okay maybe because of the food.

The only problem was that she needed a "crush" of some sorts. She crinkled her nose and furrowed her brows unsure of how to answer. At the moment, she didn't have anyone she had particular interest in because her focus was on surviving the school year. Although Valentine's Day could also be spent with a friend. That's when it hit her.

Friends. She had those right? Who would want to go with her though? Annie bit her lip in thought. Maybe Callista? The girl had went with her to Truth or Dare and she didn't seem to judge her being blind which made her feel very comfortable. Although she was shy she was still fun to hang around although she hoped Callista didn't feel too overwhelmed by her sometimes loud personality.

Annie shook off the negative thoughts and proceeded to ask Callista which she just ended up chickening out. The girl probably wouldn't go being as she was more introverted than some other people she knew. Unless there was the probability she would go at the mention of food. Either way, whoever she was matched up with it wouldn't be a date just two people eating food, chatting and hanging out right?

The brunette grinned happily but it faltered realizing she was going to need some assistance to get to the tower. Annie took Callista's wrist gently before she could object and dragged her out of the safe cocoon also known as the Common Room and with her "right. up. left." directions they quickly made it to the astronomy tower according to Callista. Annie thanked her "chaperone" and collected her breath before cursing inwardly as she couldn't see the probably lovely set up. She began to slowly make her way around the room, guiding herself along the walls until something soft grazed her arm. The girl spooked before going back to the item. Reaching out she gently grasped it. The feeling was familiar. Annie lowered her face and sniffed it. Oh! It was a rose.

Well she was right about the flowers thing. The girl picked up a rose and made her way back to where she had assumedly left Callista unless Callista had already decided to leave and in that case she would look like an idiot. "A rose, m'lady." Annie bowed presenting the rose, a little off center of where the younger girl stood and chuckled before standing back up. "Now lead me to the hot chocolate and muffins! I demand satisfaction. And a place to rest my feet. I am an old lady y'know?" Annie was buzzing with nerves and anxiousness. Whoever she was meeting she hoped she knew them. They didn't even have to be nice. It could even be Jack for all she cared as long as she was stuck with a stranger she could strike up a semi-non awkward conversation. Nothing worse than being stuck with a person whom you don't know, who doesn't know you and you awkwardly eat food together. She shivered at the thought. Yikes! No thank you. Please no.

Valentine's Day... hearts, candy, chocolate, and cards. It had almost slipped her mind until the day before, when she finally heard about the rumors of a Valentine's Day event in the Astronomy Tower. Oh, how clueless and naive Callista was. Although she was older than Aurora, it seemed that she was much more up-to-date with these sorts of things. The eight-year-old had even teased her about her "date" for the day.

Of course, Callista wasn't going to sign up - she didn't have a crush, so the moderators wouldn't have anyone to pair her up with anyway. So on the day of Valentine's she found herself folding an origami heart to string up beside her bed. Just because she didn't have a crush didn't mean that she wanted to be left out in all the Valentine's Day fun. There was a tiny stack of pink, white, and red origami sheets, waiting to be folded. On her other side was a slightly larger stack of finished origami hearts.

Down... up... other side...

When she paused her chain-making, Annie took hold of her wrist. A glance at the older girl's face revealed her intentions. At first, Callista thought she wanted someone to go to Valentine's Day with. She wouldn't have signed up herself, but she would never refuse a friend - especially Annie. But it seemed that she only wanted someone to guide her. Quickly pulling on a light coat, she allowed herself to be pulled out of the comfiness of the common room.

Focusing on guiding Annie and making sure she didn't trip, the duo quickly moved up the castle. The common room was on the 1st floor, and the Astronomy Tower was, well, all the way at the top. It was quite a long walk, but at least they took a few cautious shortcuts to make the journey faster. Somewhere along the way, their hold changed from wrist-gripping to hand-holding. Surprisingly, Callista found that she didn't mind that much. It was easier to guide the older girl that way.

When they finally reached the place - by now the first-year was starting to regret coming - she found the Astronomy Tower decked in Valentine's Day decorations. They were... actually quite pretty. The floating paper hearts and arch of handmade flowers added an air of magic that she had never seen before on Valentine's Day. Then again, they did go to a magic school.

Annie let go of her hand, and as she watched her, she couldn't help but glance down at the stairs. It seemed like such a hassle to walk all the way back to the dormitory... She followed the older girl. As Annie presented her with a rose, Callista couldn't suppress a grin. "Let me take my own first!" she said, her voice teasingly light. Grasping Annie's hand again, the young girl walked over to the three options.

Cupcakes had never really interested her - the frosting was usually much too sweet. The same was true for the chocolates. Observing the roses, Callista gently snapped off the stem of a rose. Slightly more rosy than the other pink ones, Callista held it up. The fresh, red petals had been sandwiched in the middle of a cluster of other ones. Its fragrant smell wafted around the duo.

Callista briefly closed her eyes to inhale the sweet scent. When she opened them again, they were trained at a label on Annie's rose that had previously gone unnoticed. With a gently squeeze of her hand, she said, "There's a number labeled on your rose. I think it'll tell us where you're supposed to be..." Lifting her head, she scanned the area.

Clumps of people were scattered around the open room, gathered together under large, Valentine's-themed, balloons. Numbers were printed on either side. When she spotted Annie's number, Callista led her over. The picnic was set up well, and it seemed that Annie was the first to arrive. "Good luck, Annie." Placing her own rose in the older girl's hand, she turned to leave. Her foot paused above the ground as her eyes caught on the number written neatly on her rose.

It was the same one as Annie's.

"Oh," she breathed softly. "I... guess we've been paired." Sitting down on one of the two cushions, Callista glanced at the picnic blanket. It had a nice variety of sweet and savory treats. How they had been paired when she hadn't signed up, she didn't know. At least there was hot chocolate, even if it was a little chilly. "Biscuit?" she offered.

Annie seemed to be left alone for a bit and played with the picnic blanket underneath her. It was soft and the fabric under her fingertips seemed to calm her if only slightly. Her nerves had increased twice as bad as before once her only source of comfort left so she had to have something to distract her. She stopped playing with it feeling like an idiot if anyone had seen her she probably looked a little weird just rubbing the blanket between her fingers. The brunette decided to stretch out some more on the picnic blanket and lay back on her arms which helped prop her up. What to do now besides wait? Well that question would be answered sooner than she thought.

Annie had finally made herself comfortable and started to zone out when a figure sat down next to her. She hadn't heard them approach much less introduce themselves. Maybe she was going deaf too? What really had caught her off-guard. Next thing she knew she was getting offered a biscuit by this person.

Wait. A. Second.

"Oh my gosh Calli! Don't scare me I thought a random person just tried offering me a biscuit. Don't scold me but I totally didn't hear you. I swear I didn't forget what your voice sounded like."

The brunette shot a cheesy smile towards the girl. You know you just shortened her name accidentally. Her brain reminded her and replayed the scene she just went through. A small "o" formed from her mouth and she instantly shut up but not before nodding her head at the previous offer of a snack.

Once the warm, fluffy treat was in her hands she started nibbling on it, satisfied with the taste. She didn't know what to expect food wise but then again Hogwarts always had great food. A soft sigh of content escaped her mouth. "Hey Calli, how'd you end up getting signed up anywho?" Looks like the nickname was going to stick. She was curious though. It usually seemed like she either got dragged along or always ended up going to events. Or at least the events Annie attended. She had met her in the Common Room at first, then occasionally in the hallways and then truth or dare and now this. It was odd, but nice.

That's when a wave of chills hit her. They were in the Anatomy tower and it was cold. Sure there were fireplaces and hot cocoa but it was still cold. Annie reached out to find Calli and ended up poking her shoulder. "You should find us a blanket or else you are going to become my blanket. I could attempt to find the hot cocoa. I may be blind and potentially deaf but my nose won't fail me..hopefully." Annie joked with the girl. Hopefully she wasn't scaring her off or anything.

In the meantime the girl stood up, picked up the picnic blanket and wrapped it around her shoulders like a cape. It didn't hold much warmth but it was better than nothing. Before long she dragged herself over to a fireplace. Finding out where it was wasn't too difficult to find due to the loud crackle and warmth coming from a few different directions. Again it was time to wait.

Would Callista be successful on her hunt for a blanket or would she fall subject to Annie's wrath (of cuddles)?

A little chuckle escaped her lips as her partner jolted. The grin faltered at Annie's teasing comeback. It wasn't her message, but the nickname. Calli..? The word rolled around in her mind. It wasn't a terrible name - she could think of worse - but the fact that it had slipped so easily out of the older girl's mouth was surprising... and warming.

Shaking herself out of the stupor, she returned Annie's smile. Before she could stop it, she said, "Well hopefully you'll never forget my voice." It only occured to her how cheesy that sounded several minutes after. After handing the offered biscuit, she nibbled on her own. Clearly she had been missing out on Hogwarts' food.

Pausing in her snacking, she replied, "I don't know. I certainly didn't sign up myself." Was it possible that the magic just sorted people as soon as they touch a gift? Could it be that it was randomly assigned? Looking around at some of the other groups, it seemed possible. Then again, others seemed to be set couples. "Did you sign up for this?" Immediately afterward, she chided herself. Of course she signed up for it. How else would she know to come?

Chuckling, she joked in return. "Leaving all the hard work to me?" Annie was right though - it was pretty chilly. If she had known beforehand that she would be participating the event, she would have worn something warmer. The coat was fine for a short walk outside, but it seemed that they would both be spending some time up here.

Glancing around, she spotted several people, balloons, picnic baskets... Picnic blankets as well, but Annie had stolen that, and it wasn't quite thick enough. Continuing in her quest for a sufficient blanket, she spotted... not much. Plenty of teenage drama, a couple of fireplaces, and many sweets. You'd think that the organizers would provide some blankets at a night event...

Callista felt uncomfortable at the sight of Annie sitting all by herself, wrapped in a thin blanket. "Sorry I couldn't find a blanket... Guess you'll have to settle for just me." And with that, she plopped down next to the older girl, telling herself that it was a practical action to maximize body heat. Humans loved to deceive themselves, didn't they?

She was thankful that Annie couldn't see the slight blush that refused to go away on her cheeks. In a way, it was sort of freeing to not have to constantly worry about what she looked like. But freedom tended to encourage recklessness. It seemed that tonight would be full of recklessness. "I hope you found that hot chocolate to reward me for my hard work." And jokes. Recklessness and jokes. She shuffled closer to the fireplace - and Annie - retaining her cross-legged position. It was certainly a lot warmer here than it was before.

Annie had been zoning out as Calli talked. Zoning out on her face. She was really pretty and nice or so Annie assumed she was as her memory failed to remember if she had met her before her accident. Many people just never noticed because she was always hiding in her shell. Although there was nothing wrong with that of course, Annie didn't mind less eyes on her, actually she preferred it. The brunette got snapped back to reality when she claimed she didn't know who signed her up. "Well, I may have an idea of who did it. Y'know I think they are a very cool person, you'd like them." She grinned, cheekily at the younger girl.

Annie frowned when her shadow, and presence left in search of a blanket. She hummed to herself, itching for the girl to come back so she could have some company again. Her wish was soon granted when footsteps came back towards the direction she laid. In her absence she had tied a knot in the picnic blanket, turning it into a cape so she didn't have to constantly hold it or readjust it. A small smile replaced her frown as Calli sat down, reclaiming her rightful place next to her and told her defeatedly that there were no blankets.

Annie shrugged and followed through with her promise from earlier. "I am being nice and have decided not to crush you or use you as my blanket, but you will be my pillow now." The brunette scooched over to her and laid her head in her lap, her head tilted up as if she was gazing at the girl.

A small chuckle escaped her throat when she asked for her reward in the form of hot chocolate. "Ah so you came back unsuccessful yet still want a reward?" The older girl teased, a smug grin on her face. Annie closed her eyes, welcoming the darkness and inhaled deeply, her chest slowly rising. The room smelled sweet but in different forms. There was the sweet fragrance from the flowers coming from one corner, and next to them the overly sweet cupcakes, to which she wrinkled her nose at. Another sniff was taken and she could locate the not overbearingly sweet, but beautifully warm beverage. "They are over there, across from the cupcakes and flowers where we came in." She pointed, her finger semi-off from where another table was located with refreshments.

A shy but proud grin crossed her face. She was getting better with the use of her other senses. After a moment of relishing it she turned on her side, her head still rested in Calli's lap and she sighed. "But I don wan'cha to 'eave, I'm warm now." The girl muttered, burring her face into the girl's knee, relishing the warmth and contact of another physical being. And she meant it. Annie hugged her knee tighter, not wanting to let go, acting like a stubborn toddler. She hadn't felt this comfortable or safe in a long time. For once, she felt loved.

At Annie's cheeky little message, Callista lifted her eyebrow slightly. "Well... I can't decide whether they're a cool person if I don't know who they are..." Continuing with the teasing, she said, "I'm not sure if I can trust your judgement, you know? Unless... you pass a teeny tiny test. What do you say?"

The fireplace was warm, and the biscuit from before seemed like comfort food. It sat in her belly cozily; Funny how folding origami in the Common Room seemed like ages ago, but it couldn't have been more than half an hour since. Callista could only describe the atmosphere as... fuzzy... or, cozy..? What was I thinking about, again?

Her thought process trailed off, but her daze was interrupted yet again by Annie's placement of her head in the young girl's lap. Unsure what the third year had said, Callista forced herself to concentrate. But why was it so hard? She was keenly aware of Annie's chocolate-brown hair brushing across the fabric of her leggings.

"Impressive," she commented. Her flitting mind was thankfully brought to the queer circumstance in which one's other senses are heightened by the loss of a sense. Evolution, she supposed, where a human's body tries to accommodate by boosting the effectiveness of the other senses.

Callista's heart jumped when Annie grabbed hold of her knee, reminding her vaguely of a koala. The first year opened her mouth to protest - for how else was she going to fetch the hot chocolate? - but nothing came out. Instead, she found herself thinking that she wouldn't mind at all if Annie stayed. Resting her hand on Annie's body, she murmured, "I won't leave."

The warmth came rushing back. Slowly, Callista became aware of several things - the softness of Annie's hair, the comforting grip of hands on her knees, the weight of her body on her legs, the fast beating of her heart... The fuzzy feeling came back. Perched on the tallest tower as they were, a cool breeze came rustling back, but Callista barely felt it. Staring into space, a roaming passerby would have thought that the young girl was simply enraptured by the third year.

And if Annie payed close attention, she might have caught Callista murmur, "'Learn to love by loving.'"

Annie had noticed the younger girl had fallen quiet, had she scared her? The thumping of her heart made her think so. The brunette stayed silent a bit longer, hearing the beating of both their hearts, especially the tiny flutters Callie's made. Finally she had spoken up with a somewhat attempt at a witty flirt or comeback. The third year squirmed so instead of being curled in a ball like she had previously, her back now lay flat in the other girl's lap, her gaze presumably beneath Callie's head.

"Mmm.. what sorta game?" She hummed out, a loud yawn following her, tumbling out of her mouth like a cat. Annie began to sit upright slowly as to not make herself dizzy, but also missing the warmth as soon as their skin disconnected from each other. Only then had she became aware of their surroundings. The room was oddly quiet, but not in an awkward way. Had people left? Was it getting late? "I appreciate that. But maybe we both have to leave. Is it getting late, I can't tell."

Annie let out another, smaller yawn. The only warmth being applied to her now was Callie's hand which rested on her back even as she had moved to sit up. "Either way, I lost track of time and it's no use stumbling back to the common room in the dark." The girl stood up, her legs tingly from laying down for so long, but Callie was probably worse off since she had become a human pillow. She turned around to the direction she knew the girl was still sitting. "What do yah say, get some hot cocoa, or well it's probably luke-warm cocoa now and head out?"

Annie bent down, as carefully as one could do for not being able to see and reached out both her hands, carefully grasping the girl's wrists to help her stand up. Before she was able to react Annie drew her in for a hug. Not knowing how she would react she didn't hug her to tight nor make it too long before adjusting herself and taking a step back. In that moment she felt a spark. Not quite a motherly instinct, maybe an older sister bond or possibly something else. Her fingertips trailed down the girl's arm to re-clasp their hands together. A goofy grin stuck on Annie's face as she glanced back to where she had left the silent badger. "Well? Are you coming Callie?" A teasing look gleamed in her cloudy eyes.

This was the first night she truly felt like she was being treated normal. Equal. All thanks to Callista Lovis, a little badger who had unknowingly changed her life.

Annie's yawn spurred on Callista's own yawn, lifting her hand off of the third year to rub her eyes. The first year was not built for late nights. She made a habit of waking up early every morning because she favored the brilliance of morning light over the cooling shadows of night. Although she didn't regret staying up late to take Annie here. She had quite forgotten about the other attendees, her focus trained only on Annie, as if they lay in their own little bubble under the night sky.

The third year got up, leaving pins and needles in Callista's legs. She didn't mind, though. Actually, she missed the warmth of the older girl - although she wished Annie was a little lighter. What do you expect, Callista, she's two years older than you.

"Hot-ish cocoa sounds good," Callista replied with a gentle and slightly sleepy smile. An attempt at moving her legs failed, only triggering a tingling across her skin as they woke up. Thus, the firstie accepted Annie's help gratefully.

The hug came unexpected, but good. Surprising, but warm. For a second, she forgot where she was, who might be watching her, or even what time it was, and just sinked into Annie's arms. It was a comforting sensation, being hugged. Being highly self-conscious, Callista had always struggled with the feeling of being judged and watched, especially in public. Even when she knew it was irrational, it was a feeling she just could never shake off. But in that brief second of connection, she did shake off the feeling.

The only thing in the world was her, her and Annie.

Then the moment was gone, and although Callista wouldn't attempt to unravel the feelings that the third year had stirred for a long time, that Valentine's Day would remain engraved in her memory forever.

"Yes... let's go."

Breathless.

Heavenly.
