Today was a special day, a chance for a bit of romance or platonic love. It was an opportunity to have a little bit of fun and make room for love in your heart, whether that was a new blossoming relationship or to help grow an old one. Love was a powerful emotion, capable of achieving great things. This event was the push that was required to help those in need to make that first step, to find a bond that they could treasure for the years to come. Maybe people will find their childhood sweethearts here or build the foundation of a bond that only grows.

Perhaps that was too optimistic. Nonetheless, this was a way to escape from the drama and angst, a chance to just have a little bit of fun and have a cute date. And what better location to spend with someone than under the stars?

Entering the Astronomy Tower, students would see the familiar staircase decorated with floating paper hearts that gently spun around in the sky. Following the trail of hearts up the staircase, they would enter into the Astronomy classroom at the top of the tower. The entrance to the classroom had a large arch made from paper flower roses in different shades of pink and red around it.

Walking through the arch, people will be greeted by a very different decor than they were likely used to seeing at the astronomy tower. Heart garlands were draped on the edge of the tables and paper hearts floating in the room randomly. There was a sign on the side, saying "please take one". In smaller text, it also said, "You may take up to one of each if you would like".

By the sign, people would see three main options. The first was a vase of pink roses. If anyone looked carefully, they would notice that the thorns had been cut off from the stems. Taking out a rose, they would notice a small label attached to the stem. The second choice was little bags of sweets. A transparent bag holding a small variety of heart-shaped chocolates or sweets. There was ribbon around the bag that tied it shut and a blank label on each bag. The third choice was an eggless cupcake, with glitter icing on it that looked like a rose. On the cupcake case, there was a blank sticker label here too.

When someone took one of the items (or multiple), the blank labels would start to change immediately. They would see words start to form on them. It would give them a number. That was it. A number.

Looking up, they would likely spot a room full of picnic blankets scattered around the area. There was also a foil heart-shaped balloon that came in white, pink or red. They had a small weight on the bottom of the strings to prevent them from flying away. On either side of the balloon itself, they would see a number.

It was clear that they were supposed to go to the respective number to meet their blind date.

On finding their matching balloon, they would look down to see there were two cushions on top of the picnic blanket, with a hamper in the middle. The hamper itself contained a variety of snacks: biscuits, chocolates, scones, cream, jam and cake. There were also some small sandwiches, in case anyone wanted something a little heavier. For drinks, there was a small teapot of hot water that was magically kept hot in the hamper. They would find a small selection of teas, as well as hot chocolate powder in the hamper too - with sugar and milk. For those who preferred a cold drink, there was also water and juice available.

It was definitely on the colder side up in the tower. Being wrapped up in a coat and some gloves would probably be ideal. Hats and scarves would be a decent idea too. After all, the sun had set and it was the middle of winter. However, the sheer number of people around as well as the fireplaces helped to add a bit of warmth to it that prevented it from being freezing. People would not need to wear snow boats as it was not freezing by any means. However, it was definitely suggested that people dressed up warm for the evening.

Sitting down and looking up, they would see the beautiful starry night sky showering over them. Anyone who was good at Astronomy might be able to name some of what they see.

Katrina Walker -- Adonis Thorn Valentines closed
How Katrina managed to get roped into this Errand in the first place (in reducio for it's considerable length):
Reducio
Katrina was just enjoying a pleasant evening with a pouch of jelly slugs and a comfortable blanket. Actually, no, it was loud and rambunctious, just like the Gryffindor Common Room always was. There were clusters of students chatting away after returning from classes. Katrina stayed to herself on a window seat, eating her jelly slugs in peace, watching the chaos unfold.

It was Valentine’s Day a day of sweets and crushes. She had avoided as many people as possible to avoid any awkward anythings. There was a tiny part of her that wanted other students to crush on her, a pre-teen acceptance fantasy, but she already had a crush of her own. Adonis. Sure, there hadn’t been much there, she was still learning what it was all about, but she didn’t necessarily want to deal with any drama regarding anything to do with Valentine’s Day. Her answer: stay away from all students.

Katrina was deep in thought when her brother punched her (mostly lightly) in the arm. “What the heck Liam!” She rubbed her arm and turned to face him. “What do you need?” She feigned annoyance. Honestly, she hadn’t been able to talk to him in a long while. Sure, they had slowly been distancing, but he was still her little brother, and without their parents, Katrina had taken sole responsibility to make sure he didn’t get himself in trouble. Nowadays, she let up a lot on that, letting her brother get pretty far off the tracks before chastising him, but he hardly ever came to her.

Can you help me with some Astronomy stuff Kitty Kat? Like up by the stairwell to the Astronomy tower” Liam was quick to bring out his adorable puppy eyes. He never used the nickname, it was a soft spot. Katrina wanted to refuse, but between the pet name, puppy eyes, and the fact that she sort of missed talking, it was nearly impossible. They had done a few sessions with him up there. Since they couldn’t get into the actual classroom, Katrina found a few windows that she could point up to so they could stay inside. She could easily teach him some stuff and point out constellations and it was easy to get back to the Common Room without having to face the cold of outside.

Why tonight? It’s Valentine’s Day, shouldn’t you be doing something romantic,” Katrina teased him, expecting the response. Honestly, she’d be over the moon to teach her younger brother about her favorite subject though.

Liam mimed gagging at the notion, “Ew, crushes are gross,” His reaction was instant, eliciting a small smile out of Katrina, “Please, just come onnnn,” He grabbed her arm and pulled, trying to drag her out of her extremely comfortable spot.

Wait- no- Liam,” Katrina had a realization as she overheard someone around them talking about the Errand Date thing, “We can’t go up there. The Valentine’s Date thing is tonight up there,” As Katrina talked, Liam had pulled her out of her seat and nearly out into the hallway.

Exactly,” Katrina heard Liam murmur.

Wait, what?

Nothing, nothing at all,” Katrina’s eyes widened at his slightly concerning lie. Yes, she could see through it, but what she couldn’t quite discern was what he meant. Surely he hadn’t…

Everywhere around Katrina was exploded with pink and red hearts and other assorted Valentines Day decorations. They were climbing the stairway up to the Astronomy tower. Past the windows. Up to the top of the Tower. As Liam pushed Katrina through the doorway, he quickly spelled out his master plan, “Okay so I know you have a huge crush on Adonis, I’m not that oblivious. Since you two obviously aren’t going to get together without a lot of help, I just decided to sign you up. You can’t back down now though, imagine how heart crushed Adonis would be! You can’t do that to him! Don’t hate me, bye,” and with that, Liam slammed the door in her face, trapping her up in Heartland and Katrina realized that he had told the truth. She couldn’t possibly back down now.
Katrina quietly stood in the room a moment, tearing her eyes off of the closed door just as another person entered, quickly absorbed into the crowd. It was very… pink. Katrina wasn’t incredibly ‘girly’. She didn’t like dresses and wasn’t a fan of makeup so much, but she fit into some stereotypes. However, this… this was very… different. Katrina walked through an arch of paper roses and into the belly of the pink and red beast. Following the directions of a sign on a table, Katrina took a bag of sweets, holding it with both hands rather awkwardly.

She looked around a moment before looking up to the star strewn sky. It was romantic, sure, but it was better than that. Katrina loved the night sky. Astronomy was one of her favorite classes. It all reminded her of the night last summer under the stars. Laughing with Adonis. Jelly Slugs. Sharing her wonder of the night sky with him. Katrina realized once more that she might actually have feelings for him. Or perhaps it was just the environment. Wait. What if she got paired with someone other than Adonis? A moment of sheer panic overtook Katrina. No. No. No. Surely Liam made sure Adonis had signed up as well. Didn’t just leave his sister for utter doom?

Katrina noticed that each of the picnic blankets had a balloon with a number on it. A number? Liam hadn’t given her a number. Katrina looked down to the thing in her hands, the candy, avoiding looking lost. The answer was literally right there. Under her fingers was a small number three. Katrina found the matching balloon and took a seat on the corner of the blanket. No Adonis yet.

She poked in the picnic basket and procured a small truffle. Katrina popped it in her mouth and looked up to the sky as she chewed, turned away some from the rest of the blankets with couples and… groups? She shook her head, pretending that it all didn’t exist. Perhaps her partner wasn’t Adonis. Perhaps it was no one at all. That would be a relief. But, it was highly unlikely. It seemed she just needed to wait a while longer, and ponder ways to get back at her brother for getting her into this mess in the first place.
