Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar
Sunday 14th February 2021, 7PM
@Elena Jangleton & @Lamik FillestarToday was a special day, a chance for a bit of romance or platonic love. It was an opportunity to have a little bit of fun and make room for love in your heart, whether that was a new blossoming relationship or to help grow an old one. Love was a powerful emotion, capable of achieving great things. This event was the push that was required to help those in need to make that first step, to find a bond that they could treasure for the years to come. Maybe people will find their childhood sweethearts here or build the foundation of a bond that only grows.
Perhaps that was too optimistic. Nonetheless, this was a way to escape from the drama and angst, a chance to just have a little bit of fun and have a cute date. And what better location to spend with someone than under the stars?
Entering the Astronomy Tower, students would see the familiar staircase decorated with floating paper hearts that gently spun around in the sky. Following the trail of hearts up the staircase, they would enter into the Astronomy classroom at the top of the tower. The entrance to the classroom had a large arch made from paper flower roses in different shades of pink and red around it.
Walking through the arch, people will be greeted by a very different decor than they were likely used to seeing at the astronomy tower. Heart garlands were draped on the edge of the tables and paper hearts floating in the room randomly. There was a sign on the side, saying "please take one". In smaller text, it also said, "You may take up to one of each if you would like".
By the sign, people would see three main options. The first was a vase of pink roses. If anyone looked carefully, they would notice that the thorns had been cut off from the stems. Taking out a rose, they would notice a small label attached to the stem. The second choice was little bags of sweets. A transparent bag holding a small variety of heart-shaped chocolates or sweets. There was ribbon around the bag that tied it shut and a blank label on each bag. The third choice was an eggless cupcake, with glitter icing on it that looked like a rose. On the cupcake case, there was a blank sticker label here too.
When someone took one of the items (or multiple), the blank labels would start to change immediately. They would see words start to form on them. It would give them a number. That was it. A number.
Looking up, they would likely spot a room full of picnic blankets scattered around the area. There was also a foil heart-shaped balloon that came in white, pink or red. They had a small weight on the bottom of the strings to prevent them from flying away. On either side of the balloon itself, they would see a number.
It was clear that they were supposed to go to the respective number to meet their blind date.
On finding their matching balloon, they would look down to see there were two cushions on top of the picnic blanket, with a hamper in the middle. The hamper itself contained a variety of snacks: biscuits, chocolates, scones, cream, jam and cake. There were also some small sandwiches, in case anyone wanted something a little heavier. For drinks, there was a small teapot of hot water that was magically kept hot in the hamper. They would find a small selection of teas, as well as hot chocolate powder in the hamper too - with sugar and milk. For those who preferred a cold drink, there was also water and juice available.
It was definitely on the colder side up in the tower. Being wrapped up in a coat and some gloves would probably be ideal. Hats and scarves would be a decent idea too. After all, the sun had set and it was the middle of winter. However, the sheer number of people around as well as the fireplaces helped to add a bit of warmth to it that prevented it from being freezing. People would not need to wear snow boats as it was not freezing by any means. However, it was definitely suggested that people dressed up warm for the evening.
Sitting down and looking up, they would see the beautiful starry night sky showering over them. Anyone who was good at Astronomy might be able to name some of what they see.

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar

@Lamik Fillestar
Elena did not know why she had signed up for this. Her heart was just about to leap out of her chest as she navigated her way to the imposing tower, thoughts racing through her head. It was nice, she supposed of Hogwarts to throw on something like this in celebration of the month of love but the girl was known for being an quiet turtle though she supposed a little nice evening with a partner couldn't hurt too much. One hand fixed the white flower that rested in her hair holding her bun tight as a blast of cold air whooshed through the tower. Thankfully, Elena had not opted for some of the more lavish dresses that were used at balls and whatnot, instead, she had swung on a uniquely designed black and red coat that had it's own rich appeal to it and it was thick too that would prevent her from turning into a snowman. To compliment, boots of an similar color came up to her ankles as her head tilted upwards to read the sign and the options it offered.
"Couldn't hurt, I suppose." Elena wondered out loud to herself one hand reaching to grasp the stem of one of the roses, the blank label clipped to it suddenly producing a number on the blank slate. "Seventeen." The Gryffindor muttered filing it away as she waltzed through the entrance into the gathering area complete with decorations of all sorts. It was apparent she wasn't the only one here as people had already begun to gather, some drifting off into their apparent couples. Her heart almost wanted to leap out of it's chest as she wondered which one of these people would be her apparent date. Hopefully, it would be someone she knew, that way it wouldn't be as awkward and for a moment, the third year regretted not asking Lamik knowing that he probably wouldn't be one to say no, that thought sat with her as she made her way to the balloon numbered seventeen.
Plopping herself down on the cushion, Elena kept twirling the flower that she had between her fingers she awaited her mystery person. The appeitizers that had been set out looked more than appealing but Elena knew it was good tableside manner to reserve an amount of patience so that the duo could dine together. Her eyes flicked over the options present from the sandwiches to the jam and cake. Cake. Right, cake made everything better. Cake was good as she tucked the rose into the pocket of her coat so that it would be hidden from view when her potential other arrived. She would present it to the individual when they arrived, a sort of good-will treatment if you will. Still, her curiosity was going to be the end of her if she didn't find out who it was in the next couple of minutes "Keep it together, you got this." Elena told herself trying to calm her fluttering nerves focusing intently on the entrance way as students filtered in, all of them making their way to their respective balloons.

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar
Lamik didn't really need to have any particular reason to sign up- he was a social kid. Events were fun, talking to people was fun, making friends was fun, and... well... talking to girls was fun. That being said, the two girls he had fun talking to since arriving at Hogwarts (in the "I want to hold your hand" kind of way) had either gone back to their home country (Iris) or just weren't really seen around anymore (Saskia). That being said, it was a school event taking place at night in the astronomy tower- a time that they usually weren't allowed to be out on in a place they usually weren't allowed to be in. How could he say no?
The boy hadn't chosen any especially fancy clothes for the occasion. Instead, he dressed rather casually. A plain black thermal shirt-hoodie hybrid (his favorite shirt), and a pair of grey sweatpants. After all, this wasn't really a date, was it? Dates were meant to be personal and private, not surrounded by other people doing the exact same thing... unless you were in a movie... or went out to dinner... or to any public place really. Was this a date?
Pushing the thought out of his head for now, Lamik entered the tower, walking past all the decorations with only mild interest- at this point, he had seen enough Hogwarts events to expect incredible decor, so unless something was really special it didn't quite spark the excitement that it might have when he had first arrived at the school. Past the floating hearts, past the wreath, past the pink and red, to the tables and the bowls and the signs and the garlands. Which one...? Lamik wondered to himself before rereading the sign and quickly picking up a rose. It was valentines day after all, wasn't it? Date or not, why not stick to the theme?
Once the number appeared, Lamik looked at it strangely, confused for a few moments before realizing what it was meant for. He wandered the various stations a bit, looking around for the number 17, eventually spotting it and the girl sitting down by it. "Huh." He said out loud, trying to decide how he felt about this. In the application form, one of the sections asked for Lamiks crush. The issue was that at the time, he didn't really have a crush- at least not one that went to Hogwarts. Determined to fill out every part of the application though, he decided on who to pick by simply thinking about each of the girls he knew at Hogwarts and figuring out who he could see himself kissing the most. Turns out that that specific girl was the one chosen to be paired with him- @Elena Jangleton. Lamik approached the girl cautiously. "Hi Elena!" He said. "So... am I meant to sit in front of you or beside you or...?"

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar

@Lamik Fillestar
At first, Elena thought maybe she had made a mistake. Perhaps balloon number seventeen was not the one she was supposed to be at. Maybe it was supposed to be a seven and she had just read the numbers wrong. It sure looked like from the way people were filteriing in yet no one seemed to be coursing their way to her which only heightened her suspense yet nervousness. Who then was supposed to ber her supposed Valentine date for this particular thing. She twirled the stem of the rose between her fingers feeling a bit foolish sitting all here by herself while couples all around her got engaged in their converstations perfectly content. Maybe they were just late, she would wait a few more minutes, Elena nodded to herself adjusting the rose hair pin in her hair to make sure it had sat perfectly. It had seemed just fitting for the event, the Gryffindor thought to herself when a masculine voice snapped her out of her inner dreamland.
She opened her mouth but nothing came out.
This had to be a joke, right?
"Lamik?" The girl asked incredously staring up at him. He was her partner for today. No, no, suddenly this had a very different meaning to it. One hand shot up to tuck a stray stand of hair behind her ear as she hastily composed herself. How did she look? Did Elena have a stupid expression on her face or something? Merlin, the girl had not been expecting this at all and suddenly the nervousness the third year was feeling skyrocketed to the point she felt it was going to leap out of her body and just enevelop her. Oh, he had asked her a question. Right, right, an answer. Be herself, she could do this. Take a deep breath, exhale, inhale as she nodded gesturing at the empy spot in front of her. Well, it didn't really matter, Elena supposed but that was how the seating usually went, right?
Yeah, she reckoned so. "Oh, um, it doesn't really matter. You can sit there though." She said nodding at the cushioned spot that sat across. She had expected a complete stranger, maybe an acquaintance but defintely not someone whom Elena Jangleton had harboured feelings for a while now. It was almost like the organizers of this event had read her mind and thrust the both of them together. Fitting, she supposed for a Valentine's event as the girl struggled to make converstation. She supposed she should have seen it coming but it still was like dropping a bombshell on her. Elena glanced at him as if wondering how on earth to go about this.
"So, um, you signed up for this too, huh?" Elena asked cracking a smile as she poured milk into two of the empty cups pushing one towards the boy to offer it to him. Her eyes flitted about nervously as her mind searched for a way to keep calm, her heart was going at a hundred miles per hour as the various heart-shaped decorations lingered above them. Did this count as a date? Sort of, maybe as Elena raised the cup to her lips taking a sip of the milk. It was oddly relieving in a very weird way yet at the same time, she felt happy. Happy that it had turned out to be Lamik, the girl didn't know how to describe the feeling.

Lamik didn't expect the response he got to his presence. Quite frankly, he didn't know what the response that he got was. What he did know was that asking where he was meant to sit did seem rather silly in retrospect, given that there was only one seat available. "Oh. Right." He said, lowering himself down onto the cushion. The Gryffindor gave a quick look around at what was set up for the couple, and presumably for every other couple up here with them. Whoever planned out tonight certainly made an effort to make the night as romantic as possible. The picnic set up was like something you would expect to see in a muggle romantic movie- minus the magic, of course.
"Thanks." Lamik said after Elena poured both him and herself a cup. He had been asked a question himself. "Well, I doubt that I'd be here if I didn't sign up." It was a bit of a snarky answer, so hopefully, no ill-intent would come through as none was meant. Watching Elena silently for a few moments, Lamik raised the hand that was holding the rose up. "If this is a date, we might as well do it right, no?" He leaned forwards slightly, then tried if you'd like him to fail or for Elena to move out of the way or something, go ahead. sliding the rose behind her ear. Was this crossing a line? Who knew. He had never done any of this before.

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar

@Lamik Fillestar
She watched as the boy settled himself into the seat doing her best to suppress a laugh at his answer. "You're not wrong there." Lamik had always been one of the more humorous personalites she had encountered and it was honestly a sort of nice. The very blunt nature of some of his responses, it was very entertaining in a very strange sort of way and the Gryffindor felt..connected to that. She didn't know how to describe it but he was different, he wasn't like some of the other kids she had run into around the castle, the boy just seemed happy. That was it really, pure happiness, something the brunette really enjoyed, it didn't matter what it was but he always managed to force a smile onto her face. It was hard not to when you were in the same room with him but maybe that was just her, defintely someone she would want to keep in her good books for sure. Overall, he was just a genereally likeable Gryffindor which was a whole lot more than she could say for some of her house-mates.
"Oh, yeah, it is, I suppose." The girl mumbled shyly taking a sip from the cup of milk. Wait, what did he meant about doing it right? She blinked a few times as to express her confusion eyes shifting as he held the rose he had brought with him. A gift? She opened her mouth to thank him when realizing his arm was extending outwards and before she could even register what was happening, her Valentine partner had tucked the rose so that it sat snugly secured by her ear the flower making a nice addition to her hair-do. Well, that was a bit unexpected as the heat rose to her cheeks raising one hand to touch the flower before deciding to leave it there. "I..um..I.." Oh, for Godric's sake, get it together. "Thank you, it's really pretty." Elena added smiling at him. It did compliment the white flower pin that held her bun together, this was all still a new thing to her.
Her heart felt like it was about to jump out of it's chest. Lamik Fillestar had actually.. Merlin, her mind was a mess as a swirl of thoughts raged around her brain. Right, just a date. Elena came to the conclusion that she would treasure that rose someplace, a sign of the individual who made her feel at ease deciding to move the converstation along. Elena was happy, yes, she was happy and it seemed Lamik didn't mind either. It almost reminded her of when they had been in those stands at the Blossom Ball though they hadn't gotten to enjoy the night fully thanks to the arrival of some unwanted visitors. Maybe she could consider it as repayment for that night, an evening where they could enjoy themselves without disturbances. "Lamik, I have a question?" The girl asked suddenly, a spark of curiosity springing up within her. "What made you wanna sign up?"
Truth be told, he didn't exactly seem like the type who actively engaged in all these lovey-dovey activites. He was just too happy for that and she couldn't bring herself to make him aware of what the girl felt out of fear he might turn away or be weirded out. This was fine right now but she'd have to bring it up sooner than later, she guessed. "You know." The Gryffindor mused thoughtfully as she watched him choosing her words carefully. "This isn't so bad. I'd rather it be you than some complete stranger I've never met." That much, Elena could see with one hundred percent honesty. Maybe it was just luck or maybe the person whomever was in charge of the pairings had somehow just known. Had she ever told anyone? No, no she hadn't but it had been a very pleasant surprise to find they both were matched. It just felt..right. The perfect combination that worked.

Lamik grinned at her comment. "I'd love to say that I went out of my way to pick the best one, but really all the roses were about as good. You should be thanking whoever grew them." He leaned back into his cushion. "But who am I to not take praise?" Though he didn't say it out loud, Lamik was extremely happy to have chosen the rose. He had, for once, noticed the reaction beyond what was plainly stated, and a part of him wasn't sure whether or not he felt the same way. The night was young, and disaster still hadn't struck. Maybe he'd find out by the end of it.
The boy felt his mouth dry up a bit as he heard Elena's question. "Well it seemed like a good time... and... well..." It wasn't too often that Lamik felt self conscious enough about an opinion or feeling of his to give him a hard time getting the words out of his mouth. This was one of those times. Regardles, he had to get it out- it was a matter of principal, really. "And I was hoping to sort of kind of maybe be paired with someone who sort of kind of maybe would end up wanting to be my... to be with me. Together. Ya." He cleared his throat. "Wha-what about you?"

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar

@Lamik Fillestar
She grinned at his response. As far as Lamik Fillestar was concerned, he could have all the praise he desired and then some. It was funny really what such a small item like a flower could send a very powerful message it meant a lot of different things for a whole lot of people. For some, it was well-wishes, other a more intimate sentiment that was being echoed though roses fit the bill perfectly if you were talking about Valentine things. She honestly could have not have imagined anyone else she would want settling on those cushions across from her and surprsingly, the brunette found herself tuning out the idle chatter and the happenings of the other couple. It was just her and Lamik, here enjoying some snacks and drink without a soul in the world to bother them and more imporantly, no near-death expereinces that had popped up yet. That was the most important thing of all, they were finally able to have a good and proper Hogwarts celebration without being interuppted by whatever horrible things awaited them later on in the future, she was sure.
"I don't think anyone would complain if they got paired with you, I know I'm not." Sure, he was maybe a little bit slow to catch onto things but otherwise, the Gryffindor boy was extremely easy to get along. She couldn't even fathom how you could grow to despise such a approachable personality her gaze settling onto his face before his question shook her out of whatever dreamland her mind had wandered off to. Right, get it together, Elena. It was well and good to be starstruck but she didn't need to overdo it. "Me? Truthfully speaking, I just did it on a whim." The brunette hadn't really had any high expectations for when she had sent in her little piece of parchment to the event organizers throwing her luck out there and just curious to see what would transpire of it. It seemed however luck had been on her side because she had most certainly not accounted for spending her evening date with Lamik Fillestar of all people. It was for that reason Elena Jangleton was very glad she had chosen to dress for the occasion, maybe it was a good omen. A sign that good things were coming.
"I defintely didn't expect to be spending it with the heroic Lamik Fillestar." A smirk rested on her lips at thar remark, brief images of the previous Blossom Ball flashing through her head. That had also been similar in a sense, it had just been the two of them just like today, the only glaring difference was that this time, there wasn't any mosps or anything remotely frightening to interuppt their little humble abode of harmony and relaxation that they had going on here. "This reminds me of the ball but without all the nasty stuff this time." Perhaps it was a form of compensation for how the night had been rudely interuppted, sure they could chalk it up to that.

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar
"Oh... I could think of a few..." Lamik thought back throughout his years at Hogwarts, remembering the people who weren't very big fans of him. Luckily, usually, he wasn't a very big fan of them either, so there wasn't much of a loss. Then again, there was that one time where he despised somebody who seemed somewhat obsessed with him. With a small shudder, Lamik pushed the thought of Mari out of his mind. The only person he had to think about at that moment was Elena. "It's good to know that you don't hate me though, because I don't mind you all that much either."
It was strange to be called "heroic". The word didn't seem to be an apt description of Lamik, at least not in his opinion, who couldn't help but remember all the times that he was anything but- his breakdown in Headmaster Lears office during his first year, his breakdown in the grounds after meeting Kaegen for the second time during his second- A lot of breakdowns, really. Still, being called heroic was also quite flattering, and he also couldn't help but mentally pat himself on the back for all the times that he did in fact do something right. What act of supposed heroism Elena was referring to, however, was completely lost on him. "What exactly did I do to get you to call me heroic?"

Elena Jangleton -- Lamik Fillestar

@Lamik Fillestar
Right, he didn't mind her. In some ways, those words carried a sense of meaning that Elena couldn't explain but something about her made her visibly relax as if a enormous burden had been lifted off her shoulder and her smile grew a bit wider. "Well, that's good to hear. I try not to make too many enemies, it can get hard to manage sometimes." The Gryffindor joked though in all seriousness, she failed to see how anyone could portray Lamik in a negative light. It just wasn't clicking with her and for anyone who thought differently, the brunette thought they must either have a few screws loose in their head or that they clearly needed some sort of guidance because as far as she was concerned, the boy sitting in front of her wouldn't even harm a fly even if given the opputurnity, he had a gentle nature to him and that was something Elena admired, gentle and forthcoming, the perfect combination if you asked her.
There was one thing that stood out though and perhaps the answer to why Lamik Fillestar deserved to be categeorized as heroic. You would think they would all deserve that title given the common tendency for Hogwarts events to go sideways in some fashions but what he had done that night was a step up. "Don't tell me you've already forgotten about that night at the ball." Elena couldn't with all the buzzing flapping wings of creepy crawly bugs filling her ears as they unleashed havoc upon the student population. It had started out pleasant enough but then quickly descended into a cacaphony of chaos, screams and utter repulsive horror at the creatures that invited themselves to the student's gathering and despite all this, she hadn't forgotten how her and Lamik had managed to fend off a few of the blasted things instead of just throwing caution to the winds and praying for some sort of miracle, their Gryffindor side had come out a bit and that had been quite the revealation for her.
Maybe he was being modest, after all, no one really liked to come off as arrogant or proud but she respected him for what he had put on the line that day. "When those mosps came flying, you didn't have to stay, you could have ran like everyone else." They had a choice to make that day, they could have stuck around and attempted to thin the horde of flying insects that day so that their night wouldn't be as sore and bitter as it had turned out to be due to factors out of their control or they could have ran leaving everyone behind to fend for themselves with probably an immense amount of guilt to follow afterwards. "But you didn't, we stuck together and showed those bugs who's boss. That seems like hero material to me." In hindsight, if Elena thought killing a couple of winged bugs was heroic, clearly, her standards were set low but it wasn't reall the action that counted but the thought behind it. Everyone was being commanded by fear, them included to some extent but they had managed to bring some sense of order to the situation before departing and that spoke volumes about the boy in front of her. Nice, outgoing and not afraid to put his neck on the line if needed, there wasn't a single bad bone in his body.
"We can consider this repayment for that night seeing how everything crashed and burned before we really got a chance to enjoy everything."
It was a fair enough deal in her books and unlike last time, there were no mosps around to say otherwise.
