Bonding Assignment #1 p v : A. Valeden Ended

" So, you're telling me that all you want to do is hang out with me occasionally. Added with a few hours of my lifespan to hang out with Sir Valeden's Only Other Friend Whom I Forgotten His Name Already-" he took a bite of his cheese and ham sandwich. Making sure it was chewed nicely and swallowed before he continued.

" And I don't need to find other people's dirt for you? Unbelievable waste of a bet " he grumbled his last sentence under his breath.

The morning breakfast should've been a peaceful hour where it was free for Hanako to savor the scrumptious meals in front of him as calmly as a billionaire giving out one pound.

And it indeed was, before Althea decided to come by and remind him of his newest misery. They had discussed this before, but Hanako's lack of sleep made it difficult for him to understand English at that moment.

He was fairly sure that he carelessly promised to have breakfast with her. It would explain how comfortably she seated herself in front of him. He was sure she's apologized to him at least 3 times if she wasn't 100 percent confident about her actions.

Thus, his current situation. Lei always took an hour or more to get ready so Hanako would bail before him. It made Hanako's breakfast companion nothing else but food and his loud inner thoughts.

Hanako's shoulders tensed when Althea changed his usual environment. But, her usual politeness had his shoulders visibly became calmer as they talked about the bet in further detail.

He was just astonished by her lack of rules in it. It was already curious as to why she decided being friends with him was better than ruining his reputation.

He was beginning to think that Althea saw him more of an experiment more than a friend. He didn't mean to think rude of her, but Althea seemed like a diamond in the rock. Hiding her real personality under the ' politely always below you ' facade.

If she did just wanted to experiment with friendships with him, he didn't mind at all. In exchange, he could continue to further study her odd personality.

Seeing this bet as a way for both of them to gain useless but additional information made it look more tolerable to deal with.

It makes more sense than someone who genuinely wants to befriend him. Either that, or he really couldn't comprehend even a fraction of the Blue Bird's mindset.

" So right now, we eat as friends. What an odd way to bond. Where's that little American friend of yours, though? Does he know about this or will he be consumed by jealousy that I have to deal with? ".

God, he really didn't want to deal with a jealous friend. Especially someone that looked slightly unstable like Althea's friend. He was cool, but he probably acts savagely when he's angry.

" So, you're telling me that all you want to do is hang out with me occasionally. Added with a few hours of my lifespan to hang out with Sir Valeden's Only Other Friend Whom I Forgotten His Name Already-" Hanako said before taking a bite out of his sandwich, taking his own sweet time to chew it. Althea nodded simply, taking a bite out of an apple.

"And I don't need to find other people's dirt for you? Unbelievable waste of a bet," the boy then grumbled his last sentence under his breath. Althea smiled turned fixed. She was that tad bit offended that he thought she was that kind of person, for she was only joking that day on the train.

Usually, Althea would be yelling at Alex to hurry up with his procrastination of homework in the mornings and dragging them both to the Great Hall to at least get a bite of food. Today, however, she for some reason agreed to having breakfast with the Slytherin. She was never in the mood for communicating in the mornings, since her mind was a wasteland at this time of the day.

Althea, in fact, did apologise to Hanako for actually dragging him into sitting with her today. She literally had only said three sentences to him this morning, and she felt both annoying and guilty. But, then again, Alex was still up there doing last minute homework assignments, so her mind yesterday decided carelessly, 'Why don't I have breakfast with Hanako even though I will make him hate me more?'

Althea felt extremely awkward having the Japanese boy in front of her right now. She started thinking about how terrible she looked at the moment and if she was eating politely.

Althea face-palmed herself, hard. She wondered why she could not have just done lunch with Hanako...

Hanako was somewhat pleasant, sure, but the problem was...Althea just felt simply horrible about this experimental friendship, and she just wants to make this as painless as possible for the both of them. Though, she was curious to hear about his shady family in Japan. Posh families amuse him.

" So right now, we eat as friends. What an odd way to bond. Where's that little American friend of yours, though? Does he know about this or will he be consumed by jealousy that I have to deal with? " Hanako asked. Althea shrugged, laughing. Alex would have a field day if he knew she gotten Hanako on board, he would immediately involve Hanako with his ambition of driving a tank in Hogwarts.

"Alex would be happy to hear about this, actually. He wants your involvement in driving a tank in Hogwarts to run over some things," Althea told him with a half-hearted tone.

" Tank, you say? Well, I'm honored to be in such a scheme. The Slytherin Common Room definitely needs a few...retouches~ "

Still frustrated that the sorting hat placed him in the one common room where it was difficult to grow random plants in, he wanted nothing more than to run it over with a tank. Even if he had to share the joy with someone with a few loose screws on his head.

" It's a wonder to me how close of a relationship you have with this person. Personality-wise, you both represent the distance between the sun and... whatever planet in our solar system that is the furthest away from the sun ".

Space wasn't a topic he was interested in. A good chance that it was because of his laid back nature and the lack of motivation to learn new things every day. Although it made him look like an ignorant fool, that was the point, wasn't it? He didn't care what other people said. The pride of being able to be the most honest as he can be was considered a delicate gift. A gift you could either buy with time or luck.

" To be honest Little Birdy, I don't usually eat in the company of another human. But I do know that eating together usually is the time to share stories and such, right? "

" Why not you tell me about your history with that friend of yours. I admit I'm a little bit curious. His mother was the one that showed you magic now wasn't it? "

He landed his elbows on the table and took a bite of his breakfast once again. Tired eyes state how he was already bored with how this conversation was going, but his body posture said otherwise.

The two continued to talk frivolous topics. Raging from favorite colors to their preferences when it comes to decorating a house. Although there were topics Hanako stayed clear of. Lucky for him, Althea's perspective skills come in handy once again. Quickly picking out his lack of interest in several topics, she was quick to change it into something more mundane.

Most of the forbidden topics were background information. He was impressed, how she had not abused her power in winning their bet to get info out of her. Not that he'll allow it either way. He will always find a way to avoid talking about such matters. It was just his luck that he didn't need to lift a finger to keep it that way.

Although they were having somewhat of a pleasant time, there was a bit of a hesitant feeling in his gut. How long will this nice moment last? Sure, he had a breakfast buddy now against his will but something felt wrong about this. The girl was okay. She wasn't overly nice, or immensely intelligent. Lack of these two qualities that would make her 'okay' in his book.

But she wasn't someone he cared about. Or at least, for now. He was going to have a bit of trouble cutting out any possible feelings he might have for the girl, considering she's decent. There was of course, a small part of him where he thought it was no problem to keep her hanging around him.

Friends aren't plagues to him, he just thinks it's troublesome. Besides, he needed those daily doses of conversations. Be it as mundane as a Monday, he needed to speak.

So temporarily, that was the plan. Cut every string yet keep those enough thin to continue his own benefit from Althea's bet. As long as he didn't form any real connections with the girl, it will be fine.

Simple, right?

The two ended their breakfast without a hitch. As Hanako walked to his class, he pondered for a while if Althea thought the same thing.
