Sorted into what House?!
♫
♫2017, September 1st
Alan was standing in the row nervously. He just has been lead into the Great Hall with a whole bunch of other students; which he assumed where also first years. He remembered the boat ride towards the castle and it had been even more magical than his parents described to him. He would have to tell them that, complain that they made Hogwarts less magical than it actually was. Because if Hogwarts was one thing then it was magical. Probably the most magical place Alan has ever been that, if he ignored the few times when he visited his parents at work.
Alan was nervous and by nervous he meant nervous. He was shaking out of fear and excitement and obviously curiosity. He could not wait to discover every single bit of the castle and assumed that it must be huge. One of the biggest building he has ever been at and it was a real castle! Not the fake ones that were build one playgrounds. The to be sorted first year looked around nervously, seeing a few people. He heard a lot of them being sorted and wondered when it would be his turn. The waiting made his nervousness worse! “Alexander, Scott”, he had heard someone shout and saw a blonde boy walking forward. Alan looked at the procedure curiously as the boy was sorted into Gryffindor. This amazed Alan, that is one of the cool houses. Well every house was cool in some sense, but they had a lion as animal, How cool was that?! It did not take long and another boy was called forward, making Alan blink, focusing in awe. Again it was a blond boy but the energy was completely different; this boy walked as if he owned the room or even the school, whereas the other boy – Alan had already forgotten the name – had looked outgoing yet kind. Still that boy too was sorted into Gryffindor, which made Alan gnaw on his lower lip, wondering what house he would end up in.
He was sure that he would end up with, knowing that his mother would be happy if he stepped into her shoes and being a Slytherin. Well he knew that she basically was not always a Slytherin, that she studied in another school. But when she did an exchange year in Hogwarts she has been sorted into Slytherin and spend a year there. So even if she was not a real Slytherin, as she was still home at her own school, Alan knew that him being in Slytherin would make his mother proud; a lot.
It went on and on. “Flores, Celynne” was the name that was called at one point and again Alan's head snapped up. It was a girl and soon she left the chair and hat behind to walk towards the Ravenclaw table. Alan grimaced. He had nothing against Ravenclaws but could not see him in that house ever. Sure he liked some book now and then, but they had to have a lot of illustrations and must be about something funny, or creatures. Alan began to bob up and down, his attention span wearing thin. He could not even concentrate on the majority of the next students.
It seemed like hours until he heard something again. “-nes, Alan” and when he did not move and merely looked around the Great Hall nervously, the voice repeated again “Vanes, Alan”. Now that got his attention. It was his turn? His eyes widened and his hand began to shake as he slowly moved out of the nearly empty crowd. The majority of the students had been sorted already, which meant that not many would follow after he was sorted. He saw whoever was speaking the whole time smile at him as they guided him to the chair, where he sat down.
“Interesting”, he heard a voice, in his head which was kind of weird and unfamiliar. He bit his lips, not sure what to do. Was he supposed to ignore the voice? What did the others do? Well he did not see them talk and Alan was not someone to do what everyone does either. So he just sat there and after a few seconds he slowly grew nervous, impatient. What was he supposed to do, was the Hat not supposed to talk to him? He heard the head chuckle in his head and Alan furrowed his brows, making the hat slip even further over his head. 'What now?' he thought, being greeted with a “Patience, Mister Vanes”. He huffed slowly at that, how many times he had heard these words by now, he could not even count that far! “I see, I see now... where you belong is no other house then.... GRYFFINDOR!”
Alan blinked, as the hat was pulled from his head from the professor. Gryffindor? That must be a mistake! He was not proud or strong and neither was he brave! Alan was hushed away from the chair, before he could utter a word of complaint or ask for a resorting. For a moment he stood there frozen in place until he found himself able to walk towards the cheering crowd that stood up from the benches, calling his name as they waved golden-red flags with the Gryffindor emblem. He felt a bit numb as he got there, all eyes on him and he hoped he would lose that attention soon.
Some upper year pulled him towards the bench at a free spot, where a plate appeared in an instant. However there was no food yet, it would probably begin as soon as the ceremony was over. Question after question rained over him as he sat there and could not do more than nod or shake his head. He wondered how his parents would react. His father had put a bet that he was going to be Gryffindor when Alan was still a bit younger and Alan always argued against him. But now he was there, at the table his father sat at for seven years and he could not help the smile that was threatening to break free. He was nervous still, however slowly but surely the excitement began to outgrow his fear even though he staid back and did not talk much.
