Crux of The Matter

@Lavinia Cloven
Her eyes scanned the sea of heads that populated the house tables and coming to a conclusion. It was like a trend by now really that by the time some sort of break or holiday seemed to go around, the student population seemed to swell and increase and it could be felt around the castle and in the hallways. It was like the population of Hogwarts doubled over-night as she walked the length of the Gryffindor table seeking an open spot. You would think that every now and then, perhaps an open spot would mae itself known to her but as far as the brunette could tell, every little whopping inch of the Gryffindor Table was filled to the brim, this was an interesting issue that Elena had never really ran into or never thought about really simply because she had never experienced it. Her expression spelled confusion before her head tilited towards the neighboring table, the Ravenclaw one to be exact.
They didn't seem like they got a lot of visitors anyways and while her Gryffindor robes would mark her as a total outsider, she reckoned she had a passionate enough interest in academics to perhaps pass off as one of their own. Elena Jangleton wasn't just going to sit with just any Ravenclaw however, a familiar face would be preferable turning her back on her fellow lions drifting on over to the Ravenclaw table beginning to walk the length and she already had a good feeling for this. It looked more sparsely populated as she scanned faces trying to determine if any of these were people she had seen before. It was in this instance the brunette realized just how little she knew of the school and was just ready about to give up hope and probably settle on returning to her dorm before a face loomed out like a blessing from Merlin. Lavinia, they had exchanged a pleasant converstation on that train ride and bonded, she hadn't seen much of the girl at the summer camp but she reckoned her attempts to encourage her into going had some effect at least.
She was nice and that was all the Gryffindor needed. Making a beeline, she would note the open seat on the left next to the Ravenclaw girl clearing her throat to make herself known. "Um, Lavinia? Do you mind if I just..?" A smile plastered on her face as she gestured vaguely at the open seat before becoming suddenly overwhelmed with a need to explain why a Gryffindor had a vested interested in the Ravenclaw table. "It's just that everywhere's else full and I saw you and if you don't mind?" She stood there a bit awkwardly if anything as if waiting for some sort of approval or nod from Lavinia before scooting into the seat. Elena didn't know why but it just seemed like an unspoken ritual at the house tables. As long as one of the house members gave you their good graces, you could sit but if not, you would probably be the victim of more than just a few strange looks. She had been on both ends of this social norm before as the girl eyed the open seat not daring to take a step before Lavinia said anything.
