Avery clutched a stack of papers and marched towards the Great Hall from the Slytherin Common Room, excited by his task today. He had spent all night working on these eye-popping fliers, and he was eager to share the contents with any eager first-years (or even upperclassmen) he could grab. The Great Hall was easily the busiest place during mealtimes, and that was where the small first-year headed with a bright smile on his face and a purposeful stride.
Not only was he exceptionally proud of himself for designing these fliers, he was proud of his best friend Hui Ming for setting up the mega-dueling event of the year. Ming was resourceful, hard-working, and easily someone whom Avery could see becoming prefect or something of the sort in the future. That boy was going places, with his ideas and his organization skills. However, where his friend was the behind-the-scenes organizer type, Avery was the extroverted type with easily contagious excitement: Got a beat-up broom? Let's fly it! Tentacles in the lake? Dive in for a look! Craving hot pot food? Poison your dormmates with your uncleaned cauldron! Yes!
He planted himself in the center of the Great Hall during Monday lunch, scanning the roomful of students, some of which were streaming in, others were grabbing their food and chatting.
He took in a deep breath, stood up upon a chair, and hollered above the din with Avery Chen energy: "May I get your attention please! First-years, come join the mega-dueling event of the year! Never thrown a spell at anyone before? Join Wargames! Throw spells left and right, form alliances, make new friends and enemies! Register before September 20 and come to me, Avery Chen, with any questions!" The small boy flashed what he thought to be a winning smile and waved a flier in the air, letting its vibrant colors catch the eye of any curious beholders before stepping off the chair.
He proceeded to pass fliers to students nearby, smiling at them whether they took one or not. "Join Wargames, everyone! Thank you, miss. First year? No? Take one for your firstie friend, then! Thank you, see you at Wargames!" After he'd spoken to most students within his immediate vicinity, he moved down the tables to find some fresh faces. "First-years! Sign up for Wargames by September 20! Enter the game of your life! Try to come out alive, haha, no, I'm just joking. Or am I? Join to find out!"
He could never tire of this! The more fliers he passed out, the more energy he had to talk about Wargames, or anything else one's heart desired.
