She didn't know why she was decorating cookies in the Great Hall. Honest. Actually- there were some suspicions as to why. Namely the opportunity to eat cookie icing. The opportunity to decorate something, was also a plausible reason. Sometimes, Xailah had a childish need to indulge in activities that she never got the chance to participate in, when she was but a tot. Such as cookie decorating. The opportunity to frost cookies- which was a favored pastime amongst many families during the holidays- never arose, until now. Her family was too posh, or something stupid like that. They had most likely lacked the time. That was always the excuse. Unfortunate that the occasion for cookie dressing was Valentines day though. That alone was almost enough to completely turn her off of decorating.

Xailah never understood Valentines day. It was one of the many concepts that she could never seem to wrap her head around- or maybe she just refused to. A lot of her confusion had to do with her failure to understand the theme that the holiday orbited around. Love. Murmurs. Notions. Implications. She was completely terrified of anything related to it. The theme was the most off-putting thing about heart day- that and the décor. Cherubs are creepy as hell. What madman woke up and decided that a flying infant, with the need to fire arrows of at unknowing individuals, was a great idea for a holiday mascot? Who was responsible for that? And why?! The who: Hallmark. The why: they needed a way to sell more cards. Thus, Valentines day was born.

Of course the average magical child, has no way of knowing that bit of information. Therefore they are left to believe the day is just one to receive chocolate, and paper hearts on. Which is... fair. Despite this being her first time frosting cookies, everything was going quite swell for Xailah. She and Schrödinger were consuming more icing than what was going on the cookies, but that didn't much matter. It was a normal thing to do when dressing small confectioneries- if you didn't eat half the icing supplied, then you weren't decorating right. The important thing was that the lioness was enjoying herself. Which she was- more than she originally thought she would. Over the course of a few minutes, she had developed a bad case of fruit-punch mouth. Courtesy of the red frosting. However she continued to decorate her heart-shaped biscuits, in blissful obliviousness.

A single hair rose in focus. It swayed on the top of the metamorphs head; swinging this way and that. Like a metronome. Plucking one of her six wafers from the tray on which they sat, she would dip its face into a small pool of black frosting. Why black- why not? It was by far the least suggestive color, not to mention everything looked great wrapped in the shade. The only drawback to using black icing, was the odd greenish-blue residue that was often left behind on- or in- the consumers mouth. The recipients of her cookies certainly wouldn't mind that. -Would they? She hoped not. Because it was a bit too late to take the frosting off if they did mind. Though the visualization of her friends with sooty mouths, did amuse her greatly.

The cookies were fairly simple in design. Mostly black, with a few star-shaped sprinkles stuck here and there- sometimes a few dots of color when she was feeling adventurous. To tell the cookies apart, she put strange little patterns on some of them. Ruby's got stripes. Meenauh's got dots. Pericles got none at all, because by the time she got to patterning his cookies, Schrödinger had already eaten all the icing that had been left in the piping bag. The Gryffindor took that as a sign, that her decorating time was now over. Putting the adorned cookies back onto the tray from which they came, she would begin to clean up her area.
