A Long-Necked Creation
Reducio
This thread is to participate in the Origami Errand and is solo.
Nell Zoldak entered the Great Hall, a quite accessible shortcut to get outside to the castle grounds. Her footsteps echoed throughout the empty halls, for she was the only one walking. Nell didn’t have any classes left for today, but some other students did.
She pushed open the large, oak doors to enter, but came to a sudden halt when she said what was in front of her. The long house tables had stacks of square paper scattered along them. Their colors varied from blues to yellows to pinks. Nell, being quite creative and crafty, decided to check it out.
A sign stood in front of her that read “Origami,” so she guessed that’s what was happening. Nell diverted from her decision to go to the castle grounds and she went to the tables instead. She had done origami as a small child, but never with other people. Not even her older brothers. This was a change, doing crafts with other people.
Nell looked over the choices of animals. Would she do a unicorn, he childhood favorite? Or maybe a Raven, to represent her house? Or maybe even a giraffe, one of her favorites? Nell eventually, after a couple minutes at the most, decided to chose the long - necked creature, the giraffe. She picked up a piece of yellow paper, not too bright nor to dull, and sat at the end of the Ravenclaw table.
Instructions. Nell needed instructions in order to do this. She walked back over to the other end of the table quickly and picked up a copy of the giraffe directions. Placing it next to her paper, she took a seat and decided to begin the process of twelve steps, which wasn’t bad at all.
Nell made the first fold on her paper and sighed. It was to uneven. Should she just give up? No, not after a single step. She unfolded the paper and started up again. This time, the fold was much more even than it had been before. Now time for the second step. Don’t mess up like usual, Nell. The second fold was more complicated, for her at least. It had been at least, what, eight years since she’d done this?
Nell, surprisingly, successfully made the second fold. Was her touch coming back? She pondered amongst the memories of all the times she used to do this. Oh, she had made all kinds of things. Her creations ranged from unicorns to cubes, a variety indeed. Now was the time to focus, however. She wasn’t going to mess up on something ever so simple.
Her fingers folded quickly and carefully as the giraffe’s body started to become visible. She stopped for a second to think straight. Why was she even doing this? She had no idea, but it was sort of, fun, per say. Nell made sure she had completed all the steps so far, correctly. She had indeed, much to her surprise. Nell took a deep breath. On to the head, now.
She carefully made the fold to the right, making sure each and everything corner was pointed. Her creation was delicate, oh so very delicate. She creased the fold after checking if it was correct and moved on. Any crease on an incorrect fold could definitely destroy her giraffe in some way, shape, or form.
And then it happened. She was on the tenth step, almost done. Her flimsy piece of yellow paper ripped. And no, it wasn’t some minuscule rip that wouldn’t make a difference, it was a large rip that almost cut the paper in half. Nell lightly put the origami paper on the table, or wanting to disturb anyone from there own work. She needed a definite breather.
Nell pushed open a small door that lead outside and stepped onto the Hogwarts grounds. She ran the heel of her palms over her eyes. She pondered over the same question again. Why was she doing this? Maybe she should give up. Was there any hope at all? Nell looked over the vivid green grass. Maybe there was hope. Maybe, just maybe, she had a chance of making her origami figure work.
She headed back inside the Great Hall quietly and walked over to the opposite end of the table to where she had been sitting. Nell picked up a yellow square of paper identical to the one she had been using before and headed back to her spot at the table. She sat down, took a deep breath, and stated the twelve step process once again.
Her fingers moved quickly, making the folds and creasing the,, eager to successfully complete this craft. She ended up once again on the eleventh step, and surprisingly (but thankfully) didn’t rip it again. If she had ripped it again, however, she most likely would have not come back and started again.
