Piper skipped happily down the hall, humming to herself. She was excited, she could barley contain herself. There were many things she loved in the world, and in the top ten, was baking, especially cake decorating. Coming from a family of bakers, she literally raised to do it, it was her family's purpose. She wanted to do something to take her mind off of studies, plus, it would help the house elves. And she needed the money. She just didn't admit that to herself.

Piper entered the great hall, inhaling the fresh smells of pastries. She smiled happily. It smelled exactly like her family's bakery in the morning, right when her father pulled out all the pastries for that day. Piper would help decorate them along with her siblings.

She approached a table filled with trays of warm, crispy, vanilla sugar cookies. She clapped excitedly and hurried to a table full of supplies and frosting. She observed, tapping into her memory of pastry decorating. She grabbed a jar of white frosting and an assortment of rainbow food dye.

She carefully laid her supplies on the table of cookies, and got to decorating. She kind of started decorating subconsciously, letting the experience of a whole life of cookie decoration take the lead. She decided to use a cool trick she learned when she was 8, and used to decorate cookies for the most of her life. She started by spreading a thick layer of white icing over the still warm cookie, so that it dripped and covered the whole thing. She then added drips of colorful food coloring, red, orange, yellow, and so on and so forth. She took a toothpick and steered the drips in all sorts of directions, creating a colorful tie dye.

After 30 minutes, Piper had 15 tie dyed cookies. She wiped her forehead, and licked the frosting stuck to her fingers. "Don't mind if I do," she muttered happily.

Cress was super hyped when she heard about the decorating errand. She loved decorating all sorts of baked goods and had recently at home learned how to make pastries with strawberries which she decorated with powdered sugar after they had baked. She felt prepared because, while she didn't cook all that much, her grandma had her come over and decorate cookies every Christmas growing up so she was experienced in the decorating field.

Cress stepped into the Great Hall and took in all the delicious goodies all around her. Most of them were looking amazing all decorated beautifully. She didn't know where to start, so she ended up walking up to a table that already had cookies that looked absolutely incredible in Tie-Dye patterns. Crescent didn't think she'd be able to make something that beautiful, but she'd definitely try!

A girl who looked about her age was the one decorating cookies here, so Cress introduced herself and started grabbing some icing and brainstorming designs for her cookies. She didn't know why, but every now and then she'd get a burst of unexplainable excitement when working with something and she got that same feeling now as she looked at the warm sugar cookies and the immense amount of tools and colored icing to choose from.

Suddenly, she got a burst of creativity and figured out what she wanted to do with her cookies. Grabbing a cookie-cutter, she cut a rectangle with a curve around the top in the cookie so it looked like a popsicle. Grabbing the vanilla icing, she added a touch of orange and red food coloring to it and continued adjusting the colors until she had a sort of peach-colored icing. Using that, Cress spread the peach icing on the cookies and once they were all smothered in peach icing, she used a knife to carefully cut the icing off the sides of the cookies so she had nice crisp edges.

Her mother used to make cookies like these so Cress wanted to try her hand at them too.

Once this was finished, Crescent grabbed some brown chocolate flavored icing that was hot so it would run on a cookie. She put that into a bag with a silver thing on the end so she could get it to come out smoothly. Using the brown icing, she very carefully put it at the top of the cookies so it looked like chocolate syrup running down them.

She thought she was almost finished with these cookies when she remembered one last finishing touch. Cress surveyed the table looking for the perfect thing. It took a second to find it in the mess of supplies all over the table, but she ended up spotting it at the other end of the table. Leaving her cookies for a second she walked over and retrieved the rainbow sprinkles.

Coming back, she carefully sprinkled the rainbow colors all over the chocolate icing. There, they really looked like popsicles now.

For the rest of her cookies, she did the same thing with pink icing and then she decided to change it up a bit. She snatched up the rest of the peach icing she had leftover along with the pink icing and the plain white icing. With those three colors, she carefully squeezed them onto the cookies in long rectangles horizontally across the cookies. She put the pink on the bottom, the white in the middle, and the peach on the top.

She stood back and surveyed her work. They really looked great. She wasn't sure if she was going to put any more decoration on the last few cookies but decided not too. Right as she was getting ready to gather them up and hand them over to the staff who were collecting the decorated cookies, she remembered one last thing.

However, she wasn't sure if they would have them in the Great Hall or not. Walking around to the different tables in search of them, she was relatively surprised to find the popsicle sticks sitting on a far table. Scooping them up, she brought them back to her cookies and inserted one in the bottom of each cookie.

"Wow," she thought, "these really look like popsicles now!"

Piper leaned over to check out the girl’s creation.

“Impressive!” she said, taking another tray, but this time, it had a small, cylinder chocolate cake. “Have you ever baked before?” she asked. “It seems like you have,” she said, offering a bright smile.

“I’m Piper. Piper Hargrove. Nice to meet you!” she said, offering a hand. She observed her hand. Drips of white frosting covered it. “Whoops,” she said, giggling gently, and wiped her hand on a nearby napkin.

“Now,” she said, observing the small cake in front of her. “What to do with this one.” She pondered, wondering how to decorate it. She could’ve kept a relative theme and made a tie dye. No, that was boring. She smiled. She knew exactly what to do.

She came back to the table, hands full with multiple small jars of white frosting, multiple rainbow pastel dyes, and piping bags.

“This will be fun,”She said, clapping her hands in excitement. She first covered the cake in a very thin, almost not existent layer of white buttercream. She took each jar, dripping a small amount of dye into each jar. She took the toothpick she had used for the cookies and mixed each jar, careful to evenly spread out each dye, with no chunks of food dye at all. It took a while, but soon she was done with each jar. She smiled, satisfied with her work. But she wasn’t even close to done. She took 6 piping bags, filling each with a different jar. She screwed on the cap of each, and one by one, piped a layer of flower like flurries onto the cake. She started by going around the bottom with red. A layer above that with orange. Yellow, green, blue, purple, repeat. She continued all the way to the middle of the chocolate cake, not looking up. When she was finished, she looked up, and squealed excitedly.

“Wow,” she exclaimed. “I didn’t expect it to be this good. I thought I would fail miserably,” she said, leaning onto the wooden table. “Wow that took longer than I expected,” she said. “I better hurry up on decorating these things,” she sighed. “This is missing something, don’t you think. I just can’t put a finger on what it is. Be right back,” she said, hurrying to the table of supplies for inspiration. She looked over the table of flags, sprinkles, and candies. In the middle, she laid her eyes on a large, rainbow lollipop.

“It’s perfect!” she squealed so loudly, that even head on the other side of the hall turned. “Oh, sorry,” she said, turning red and heading back to the table.

She placed the colorful candy in the middle of her cake, beaming with joy and pride over the mini cake. She tucked it away and reached for another pastry to decorate.

Oh lord.

Lawrence was ready.

He had dropped everything he was doing the second he heard about this errand. If there were any hopes of maintaining a healthy diet this week (of which there were not, he was eleven), they were now were dashed. Lawrence had given this a lot of thought. He gave a lot of thought to food in general, and little else. The idea of this errand had inspired him to think about himself a little, to introspect. This deep introspection caused him to learn something about himself, something that perhaps he always knew deep down in his heart, but never acknowledged until now.

He could never, truly, never recall a time in his life when he wasn't hungry. Barring when he had just eaten, of course, but he tried to block those memories out. One did not think of food when they were full, and if one was unable to think of food then there was, in his mind, no point in thinking at all.

There were few things Lawrence was good at in life. Cooking was one of them. Baking was another. Food and Quidditch were the loves of his life, and he had no intention of messing around when it came to either. Granted, he wasn't doing any of the actual baking today, but presentation was as important as initial preparation. Without one, the other was pointless.

As soon as he reached the Great Hall, he sprinted over to the Hufflepuff table, joining the other two who were already there. "Hi!" He said with a grin. Or rather, he meant to say it, but he inadvertently yelled due to his sheer excitement. Lawrence unable to contain his excitement. Even before he spoke, he was already grabbing cupcakes and placing them down before him. Yes, this would be the beginning. Cupcakes. Cupcakes were high up in the ranks of Lawrence's favourite deserts. Whether he'd slot them into the top five, he hadn't yet decided, but he wasn't thinking about that right now. Right now, he was thinking about making these the best looking cupcakes Hogwarts had ever seen--

Lawrence paused. He had to ask himself whether he was getting competitive about cupcakes.

A moment of deliberation.

Yes. Yes, he absolutely was, and he had every right to. There was no way his cupcakes weren't going to look ten times better than everyone else's, they were going to look better than even-- "Oh, well actually--" He mumbled to himself, breaking out into a tiny fit of giggling. He couldn't stop himself. The first cupcake's icing would look like a stack of poop. The second would have a nice big bum on it. These he proudly showed to the other two, Piper and Cress, who were there before him. He then set them aside (the cupcakes, not the students).

Once he reached number three, however, Lawrence shook his head. It was time to get serious. Where to begin? Lawrence wondered, looking out at the wide array of tools and colours available before him. Up until now, and in general, he was usually quite sociable and open to conversation, even though he was often in his own world. Now, however, he was locked in. He was ready, he was focused, he-- was too short and had to stand up on the bench in order to reach some of the things he needed.

Once he had everything he needed in place, though, Lawrence got to work. He had a clear plan in mind. Firstly, he wanted to incorporate the colours of his new house, Hufflepuff. He was glad to be in it, and needed to express this in an edible form, even though he wouldn't get to eat himself. Secondly, he was incorporating bees. There was no particular reasoning behind this, just that he had been thinking about bees on the way over here, and their colour scheme happened to match with that of his house, and so bees it would be(e)! He would use copious amounts of sprinkles to form tiny balls that he would then coat in icing to shape the bodies of the little bees, placing them atop the towers of icing he had on the cupcakes. He had initially contemplated using yellow icing, but decided that since the bees themselves were yellow already, the icing on the cupcake itself should be of a different colour to make them stand out, and so he went with a simple off-white. It was the perfect balance, as it wasn't just plain boring old white, but didn't have too much yellow in it either.

Lawrence took a step back once he was done, placing his stained hands on his hips. He was a mess. He had gotten icing all over his robes, and a little bit on his chin and face (not that he had tried eating any of it, he was just clumsy). The cupcakes, however, were clean. There was no spillage of icing, no extra drooping down on the sides. He was perfectly happy with them.

Cress was getting ready to start on her next cookie endeavor when the girl introduced herself. She told Cress her name was Piper. She was about to tell Piper her name when she remembered introducing herself when she first walked up. She giggled to herself thinking about how awkward that would have been. Piper held her hand out and then realized she had icing dripping off of it. They both keeled over in fits of laughter.

Cress grabbed up a few circular cookies and cut a circle in the center of each one. Then she grabbed a bunch of different colors and set to work carefully applying icing to the ring of each one. She was going for more the look she gave her hair which might not sound like such a good example she thought. This brought a smile to her face and she continued applying blue and pink icing to the cookies, the same colors she dyed her hair.

Once she had finished and fixed any icing mistakes so it was on there perfectly, she decided to find some sprinkles to add to each cookie. She saw the perfect colors at the end of the table but there definitely weren't enough for all of her cookies. No worries, she'd use icing striped on all the ones left over once she used the sprinkles up.

While she was grabbing the sprinkles, a boy walked up. He shouted "Hi!" at them very enthusiastically. While bending over the table to grab the sprinkles, she raised her other hand at him in greeting and yelled back, "Heya!"

Finally having the sprinkles in her possession, Cress sprinkled them on her cookies until they were all gone. Then she grabbed the icing and ever so carefully added lines to the cookies without sprinkles to add more decoration. She could have found more sprinkles but didn't want them to look out of place with different colors.

"There, they really looked like donuts now," she thought as she stood back to examine her work. That had to be enough cookie decorating for her. Her hands were covered in icing and she was certain the food coloring would be on them for days, but it was all worth it. Now if only she'd be allowed to eat some...

Lawrence had been so absorbed in his own cupcakes, he had hardly looked over at what the others were making. Now, however, he had a chance to glance at the others' work, watching as Crescent finished up the details on her doughnut-themed cookies. "Whoa," he mumbled, licking some of the remaining icing off his fingers. It wasn't eating, it was cleaning... just with a bonus. "Those look really good." He paused, then added, gesturing to what they had both made earlier, "All of it, really."

He, too, grabbed some plain cookies, deciding that that was the next step. "I'm Lawrence, by the way. Lawrence Belf." Said Lawrence with a nod and a smile, only briefly looking at the other two before looking down at the cookies as he spoke. He wasn't too good at maintaining eye contact with people he had just met, "Nice to meetcha!"

It was time for some snowmen. Not the traditional cookie snowmen, however. Lawrence wanted some depth, although of course he knew he couldn't build standing snowmen on these here cookies with icing alone, and so slightly melted snowmen would have to do. That way, he could have a bit of depth, but not get too outrageous and build something that might end up falling over.

Piper turned as another boy joined them at the table. He said hi, and Piper said hello back. Soon, the table was filled with tie-dye, popsicles, rainbows, bees, doughnuts, and snowmen.

"Wow," she said, eyes twinkling. "These are really good you guys!"

She turned to the boy, who had introduced himself as Lawrence. "I'm Piper! Piper Hargrove," she said, checking her fingers for frosting. "Its great to meet you."

All good, she said to herself, offering a hand.

"Anyway," she said. "What should I make next?" she was honestly running out of ideas. There weren't many pastries now, most were decorated. She was about to decide to leave until she laid her eyes on a small batch of chocolate cupcakes. Suddenly she had an excellent idea.

Pushing the remaining pastries out of the way and placing down her tray. First, she scooped a batch of fluffy butter cream into the piping bag. She piped swirls onto the cupcakes until she had 10 cloud like cupcakes. She scurried away and came back with a bag of marshmallows, a bag of chocolate and a bag of graham crackers.

"Okay," she said, as she placed one marshmallow, one piece of chocolate, and one piece of graham crackers on the cupcakes. Soon, each cupcake had a mini smore on top of it.

She sighed, but it was a happy sigh. The great hall was full of amazing pastries, many better than Piper's. But, she was proud anyway. It was good enough for her. Pushing her cupcakes away with the rest of her table's work, she leaned back in her chair.

"Phew. That was fun. I really like you guy's." She leaned over the table. Cress's really looked like doughnuts and popsicles, and Lawrence's bees and snowmen looked really cute. She smiled. "They look amazing you guys!"

Now, the tables were full. Excitedly, she got up, proud of her new creations, and everybody else's too.

"I'll see you guys around!" she said, skipping away happily.
