Replying to Becky Linberg

"My name's Becky- Linberg. That's me," she said with a charming bit of awkward, "I'm muggle-born. I don't really know many wizards or witches here."
Odessa was relieved that the girl no longer seemed to have fiery feelings towards her. Odessa didn't disdain her fiery attitude, and quite honestly, she wished that she could have it from time to time. She realized that sometimes her kindness could be a weakness for others to take advantage of her. Although, if she wanted to become a great witch, she would have to eventually get tough....or.. find a new friend that could be tough instead, so she didn't have to be. She heard the girl say she was a muggle-born and that made her excited. "Really?" she replied a little to eagerly. "I'm a muggle-born too! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that seems a bit clueless around here." she said with a mouthful of sausage in her mouth. For how nice Odessa was, she at times could be a bit silly and lack manners when she gets excited. Out of the corner of her eye, Odessa could see the girl look up.
"To be honest, this," she said with a nod up above, "is just about the best thing I've ever seen.". "That and the ability to clean with magic- sorry for that, by the way- did any food get on you?"
Odessa continued to eat her food. "Oh yeah the enchanted sky, I know right?" she bit into another piece of sausage. She usually didn't eat while talking but she had just done an immense amount of studying and she had worked up quite an appetite. "Hey and don't worry about it. I only got a little bit of food on me but its no big deal, I have too many clothes to speak of" she replied with a smile as she had just finished her sausage. She laughed a little and then said, "You know, mum and dad never cooked like this back in London. Where are you from? You said you were muggle-born right? " she asked the girl.

"I'm a muggle-born too! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that seems a bit clueless around here." she said with a mouthful of sausage in her mouth.
Becky didn't know how common muggle born wizards were, and upon discovering the girl's muggle born lineage she determined that she was going to research it. Knowing who she was always seemed like an important thing to Becky, which was often a terrible conflict resting on her adolescent mind, but it occurred to her now, in the profound way a realization sometimes ambushes you, that Becky was a witch. What a magical thing life could be, she thought, with a solid sense of irony. She wondered just how many other Hogwarts students were going through the same adjustment she and this girl were.

As she looked up at the enchanted ceiling, Becky remarked on how wonderful magic was- which reminded her of the wonderful magic of cleaning, specifically that of food in garments. Hoping that she didn't ruin her clothes much, Becky asked the girl if any food spilt on her.
"Hey and don't worry about it. I only got a little bit of food on me but its no big deal, I have too many clothes to speak of" she replied with a smile as she had just finished her sausage.
"Whew, okay. Good," Becky said, smiling and miming a dramatic sweat wipe from her forehead.

Becky wished she had the luxary of too many clothes herself. She'd packed in a hurry and behind her mother's back when she left for the wizard world. Her grandmother gave her money for supplies, but she'd never been much good with finances and Becky was finding the allowance a little tight. That reminded her, she needed to send an owl home. Her mother must be worried sick and she'd bet that her grandmother wasn't fairing too well under her mother's scrutiny for helping Becky go to Hogwarts.

The girl was eating and appeared to be famished. In her hurry, she was talking with her mouth full of sausage, which Becky thought made her like this girl more. Proper was no fun, anyway.
"You know, mum and dad never cooked like this back in London. Where are you from? You said you were muggle-born right? " she asked the girl.
At the mention of her home city, Becky got excited, "Hey, I'm from London too!" Furrowing her brow, Becky leaned in pretending to examine this girl thoroughly, "Are you sure you aren't an enchanted mirror image? Or maybe wizards have learned to clone! You know what, I better take you into my secret government lab, these are just way too many coincidences... hmmm...." She pondered off into the distance. Then suddenly perking up, she asked, "Would you care for a refreshment that may or may not be poisoned for scientific research?" as she offered her a bright red drink.

"Hey, I'm from London too!"
"Well actu-". Odessa noticed the girl move closer to her as she seemed to be examining her. She wondered what the girl was thinking. The girl spoke again.
"Are you sure you aren't an enchanted mirror image? Or maybe wizards have learned to clone! You know what, I better take you into my secret government lab, these are just way too many coincidences... hmmm...."
Odessa looked at the girl sincerely confused. "What does she mean secret government lab? The ministry? And what does she mean too many coincidences?" she thought to herself. The girl seemed to really be in thought, pondering something and it made Odessa a little bit nervous. There was an awkward silence that had fell as the girl pondered. Odessa began to laugh nervously, then the girl suddenly perked up and spoke again.
"Would you care for a refreshment that may or may not be poisoned for scientific research?"
The girl offered Odessa a bright red drink. "Where the hell did she get that drink from" she thought to herself. "And isn't it against school rules to create potions without taking a class or you know, being good at it?" Odessa looked at the potion and instead of agreeing, she just asked a question. "What does it do?" she asked the girl. Odessa couldn't lie, she was slightly intrigued by the red potion. She was all for following the rules but if the girl had made a really cool potion, all it would take is a trip to the hospital wing if anything went wrong... But what would the teachers think..? She looked at the girl curiously for an answer.

The girl looked a little confused and a tad uncomfortable, and Becky mentally kicked herself for whatever breach of social etiquette she just made. Did I come on too strong, she wondered trying not to wince from the stink of social tension. Why does socializing have to be so hard?

Becky's hand was still held out, holding the random red drink she had picked up off of the table, she felt frozen in place. She'd been trying to be funny, but apparently it had come off as weird. Well, that's me, she thought bitterly as the girl looked at the drink.
"What does it do?" she asked.
Oh, Becky realized, she thinks it's a potion. Becky was still getting used to the fact that Hogwarts was a wizarding school. She smiled, crooked and sweet, while furrowing her brow, shy from her social failure.

"You know, I don't know," Becky said, as she brought the drink up to her face, and sniffed the red liquid. It gave off a fruity, zingy smell.

Becky's faced relaxed into a full smile as she laughed a little.

"I think it's just fruit punch. Do you want to try it or should I? I can never resist curiousity, it's just too dull otherwise." Becky asked, resting her elbow on the table.

"You know, I don't know," said the girl. She doesn't know? Odessa watched as the girl carelessly smelled the mystery liquid trying to gauge what face the girl made depending on the smell and probably its potential level of toxicity.

"I think it's just fruit punch. Do you want to try it or should I? I can never resist curiousity, it's just too dull otherwise." the girl said. Oh man what a relief. "But now I look stupid for thinking she had made a potion. Its only right that I take the drink now". Odessa laughed, "I really thought that was a potion. I won't lie, it would have been impressive if it was. Most pure-blood students can't even concoct a potion in their first year before classes".

Odessa reached her hand out and grabbed the cup. "I need this drink now after eating that food anyways" she said as she took a sip from the cup. She only took a small sip because in the back of her mind, she still kind of believed that the cup was still full of a red poisonous potion. It wasn't, it was fruit punch like she said, or at least it tasted like it. "Curious" Odessa said smiling, "you sure this isn't a poisonous potion? Because if I die from this, my dying wish will be that you fail potions class" she said jokingly.

When the girl laughed Becky felt a profound relief wash over her. Relaxing her shoulders, which she didn't realize had been so tense, she listened to the girl.
"I really thought that was a potion. I won't lie, it would have been impressive if it was. Most pure-blood students can't even concoct a potion in their first year before classes".
"Ha, I wish I had that sort of talent," Becky chuckled as the girl took the glass from her hand. She thought there was something sweet in this girl's demeanor that made Becky want to get to know her more.
"I need this drink now after eating that food anyways" she said as she took a sip from the cup.
Becky started filling her plate with vegetables, heeding her grandmother's warnings of proper nutrition. A Jewish grandmother has supernatural senses of what their grandchild eats. Becky wouldn't be surprised if there was magic involved with this. That's a funny thought, Becky pondered to herself, looking back at the girl.
"Curious" she said smiling, "you sure this isn't a poisonous potion? Because if I die from this, my dying wish will be that you fail potions class" she said jokingly.
Becky laughed, glad that the awkward moment had passed. "Well, that's worrying for my academic future," she joked, but then, remembering that the girl had taken her literally the first time she tried that, Becky added, "No, no. I am one hundrend percent sure. That is definitely fruit punch."

Grabbing a glass of her own and pouring her own fruit punch, Becky turned to this girl, "You know, I still don't know your name. If you die then I won't know who's making me fail potions class." That was morbid, Becky thought, I hope she doesn't take that literally.

General The Ravenclaw Table 2018-2019
Aylee had been sorted into Ravenclaw like all the Silverstorms before her. She was relieved that she wouldn't have to deal with her parents disaproval over being sorted into another house. The new worry now was actually getting good grades, making her parents proud and making new friends because she did not feel like spending the next 7 years alone in the library... Aylee sat down at the Ravenclaw table and looked around a little wondering what to do next. The table was filled with delicious foods and drinks and her stomach grumbled in answer. Food was going to be first because honestly she was starving. All the nerves had make her forget to eat !

Aylee quickly filled her plate with several dishes that were closest to her and filled her goblet with pumpkin juice. The Great hall was buzzing with chatter from everyone and people getting to know each other or discussing their summer vacations with their friends. Aylee usually was a very carefree person and would just walk up to someone and introduce herself but the amount of people here in the Great Hall intimidated her a little and she was still getting used to her envoirement all together. Aylee's mind was still reeling from being sorted in the first place...

She slowly started eating her food and taking sips of Pumpkin Juice while looking around, to the enchanted ceiling that she read about in Hogwarts A histoy, the Teachers table where every staff member of Hogwarts was enjoying their meal as well and chattering with each other. New students who already had found new friends but also some who were quietly looking around like she was.

Cecily sighed as the feast began for the year. All the new Ravenclaws had been sorted, and everyone around her was chatting and eating. Cecily, however, did not feel like chatting tonight. She had a long train ride where she almost didn't find a compartment, and all she wanted to do was just read. Sadly, this was not the place to read. Almost everyone in the Great Hall was chatting (Cecily did see some people also reading books), and it was impossible to have one second of peace and quiet. Cecily would have gone to the Ravenclaw common room, but knew she probably couldn't answer the riddle, and she couldn't see any prefects from her spot. Finally accepting that she wouldn't find peace and quiet that night at the table, Cecily decided to think. Just think. Happy thoughts. She remembered how exactly one year ago when she first sat down at the Ravenclaw table. That was when she had just been sorted into Ravenclaw. She remembered how she slowly sat down at the table, wishing she had been sorted into Hufflepuff. Cecily really had thought that Hufflepuff house was for her. She knew she belonged in the House of the badger. Her whole family knew it too. Even to this point, Cecily didn't really know why she was sorted into Ravenclaw, but was determined to find out sooner that soon. After a couple months at Hogwarts, Cecily accepted that she was in Ravenclaw and just was herself for the first year. After a while, she kind of forgot the fact that she had wanted to be sorted into Hufflepuff. She had felt like Ravenclaw was her home. She did feel like she had fit in to the house perfectly.

Something had also surprised Cecily when she came to Hogwarts. She had made friends. Yes, friends. Cecily was surprised at this because she was pretty shy. She always cared about school more than making friends, but after a while at Hogwarts, Cecily became lonely. Very lonely. Without any siblings in her own house, Cecily did not have anyone to be with. No one to study with, no one to talk to, and no one to go to for help or comfort. Then it happened. Cecily went out of her comfort zone and met a couple of people. Then after a while, meeting people and making friends became pretty easy for her, which was something Cecily thought she could never accomplish.

Thinking about these things, made Cecily forget all about all the noise in the Great Hall. She snapped back to reality and realized she was still holding her book. It must have been at least fifteen minutes she had been thinking about all these things. How time flies!

Cecily looked around. No one seemed to have left their place. Everyone was still chatting as loudly as ever and eating. Not being able to think about any other things, Cecily tried to read again. Nope, still too loud. Cecily then looked around for people she knew. No, she didn't spot anyone she knew. What else could she do? After a while, Cecily realized that if she wanted to read, she would have to ask someone to keep the noise down. Turning to a girl next to her, Becky Linberg , she said,

"Excuse me, not to be rude or anything, but do you mind talking a little quieter? This book here is very interesting, you see, and I can't read in this noise."

Maybe that was a little too harsh, Cecily thought.

She never meant to be rude to the girl, and she hoped the girl knew that. Hoping to cover up her harshness, she smiled as polietly and kindly as she could.

As the sorting ended everyone around him had engaged in conversation. Some new each other well, while other's gave feeble attempts at conversation. He picked up a bread roll that looked quite buttery and bit in. He glanced around now shy to talk. Then he remembered he probably wouldn't make it through Hogwarts alone. He put this out of his mind and began to eat. He ate, wings, chicken nuggets, and plenty of other chicken items. His stomach never seemed to want to stop eating. He finally turned to the person next to him and tried to make a joke. "What happened to the bad wizard at school? He got Ex-SPELLED!" Right after he said this it occurred to him that the joke made no sense and no one would think it was funny. He went back to eating, but this time he was chowing down on creamy cookies n' cream ice cream. He looked around and thought. "What if I never fit in?" When this thought occurred he put down his spoon and simply watched those around him. Everyone had jolly of faces void of hunger and sadness. Everyone was happy enjoying themselves. Expect him. He tried to make conversation one last time by again turning to the person next to him and saying, "Hey." And that was all.

When the sorting seremony stopped Kiya sat down to the Ravenclaw Table. She was confused as this all was so new to her. She had no idea how to live here or how to make friends or, to be honest, do anything. She sat quietly thinking about what she already had learned today. In Hogwarts there are four houses. This she actually knew before. Her father had told this in his letter. And Kiya was sorted to the house of Ravenclaw. Then, for the first time that day, Kiya smiled. She remembered that her father had also been a ravenclaw. Maybe it runs in family? Kiya thought. Although I don't know my father and I don't feel like he is my familymember. Kiya stopped smilig. That thought made her quite sad. Thinking about her family. Mother, little sister and grandparents. She shook her head and tried to focus. She noticed a girl sitting right in front of her. Kiya watched silently when she slowly started eating and drinking. Kiya thought that the Pumpkin Juice looked delicious and wanted to try it. She looked for a bottle or something that had juice in it. After looking for a short while she noticed some right next to the girl in front of her. Kiya didn't usually do something like this, but she really wanted to try the Pumpkin Juice. It took her a while, but finally she built up some courage to ask the girl to pass her the juice.
"Hi. Excuse me. Could you please pass me the Pumpkin Juice?"
As soon as those few words got out of her mouth she suddendly felt nervous again. What if - quiestions swirled in her head. Kiya shooked her head. Come on Kiya, she thought. This is stupid. Be brave and wait for her answer. It can not be as bad as you think. You just asked for some juice. Then Kiya looked at the first student she spoke to in Hogwarts.
