The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Madelyn entered the Great Hall, taken in by its formidable scale. Her eyes followed the levitating candles over their heads and her lips slowly formed a smile. She had been nervously anticipating this moment ever since her mom and dad told her what she was. Watching her footing as she followed the other new students into the Hall, she listened to the Sorting Hat's song with curiosity. One of the names it cooed made her perk up.
"Gryffindor..." Her mind traveled back in time to one of many conversations her parents had with her while she was still in Cambridge. "That's the house they were in. The one they want me to be sorted into. I can't say it would be all that bad, I guess...but would I really fit in?" The horrid thought of being placed in a setting of incompatibility began to haunt her, but she shook her head, and her dirty brown bangs brushed down in front of her eyes.
"Cool it, Maddy. If the adults are really trusting this hat to place us, it has to know what its doing, right?" She reasoned as the Sorting Hat finished its song. "I'll end up where I'm supposed to be. I just gotta trust that sketchy old hat."
Too busy battling with anxiety, Madelyn failed to hear her name being called, and she suddenly felt an army of eyeballs staring her down from all angles. "Madelyn North! Please step forward!" Head propping upwards, Madelyn combed the hair out of her eyes and looked around in a state of embarrassment before getting with the program and taking a seat on the Sorting Hat's stool.
"Well, now...this is curious. You've got a well-rounded mind, North, I must admit," the hat said as it hugged the top of her head. "You're smart, and ready to apply yourself. Ambitious...and a little crude, but I can't in good conscious say you're Slytherin material. I see a strong sense of loyalty. Plenty of patience, too. You'd do quite well in Hufflepuff, of that there's no doubt...but there's something more. Something far stronger here, North."
Madelyn looked up at the hat, brows raised. The thought of joining Hufflepuff was an agreeable one, even if it was against her parents' wishes for her. Unable to keep herself from flinching as the hat twisted in place, seemingly digging for some underlying gem in her persona, she held her breath and gently reminded herself to trust in the process.
"That's it. That is it...," the hat continued, still looking down at her. "Its true, Hufflepuff would be a good home for you, but you have something far more prevalent. You have courage, North. A strong moral compass, and above all else, you have determination burning brighter than anything. That settles it. You're far better suited for a future with...GRYFFINDOR!"
Madelyn's heart jumped as she hopped off of the stool and began making her way towards the Gryffindor table. Thunderous applause erupted from the crimson-clad students already seated there, and her smiled returned. This time brighter than ever. It was an expected result, but welcome, nonetheless.

Moray was excited to finally be at Hogwarts, she had been told many stories of the school from her family that she felt as if she was finally coming home. It took her a few seconds to realise that these were the exact halls her parents walked down at her age, that almost all of her family had been at the school, in fact, there were one or two currently studying.
She waited patiently for her name to be called, being an M meant she was in the middle of the group. “Moray Morrigan” her name was called she moved between the students up onto the dais and sat down.
“Another Morrigan.” The hat spoke to her, she smirked slightly at the comment, her eyes drifting towards the figure of her youngest uncle sitting proudly at the Hufflepuff table. “I see that you're less fanciful than the last Morrigan I sorted...hmmm. Well, I could lie and say this is a hard choice, but just like your parents, you're going to have to be...SLYTHERIN.” The last word was echoed out across the hall, she let out a small sigh of relief, she had wanted to be in Slytherin like her father.
She looked out towards her uncle, she couldn't help but notice the crestfallen look on his face, she gave a wave and smile before sitting down at her table. As the night went on and other's joined the table, the feeling of excitement dissipated and was quickly replaced with an underwhelming sadness.
'Was this it?'

Lavinia felt so excited and over joyed to finally be at Hogwarts since just months ago she thought herself to be a squib. Her family had told her so many stories about the place and when she saw it for the first time it was much more then she ever thought it to be. The castle was so huge and so beautiful she couldn’t keep her eyes off it. But there was also a lot of nervousness around her and she started getting very nervous herself. Her parents had told her about the four houses, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor but she never imagined how much people were talking about them it was like this effected their whole life.
Finally they walked into the great hall and Lavinia’s heart was pounding of nerves, she assumed that she would be in Hufflepuff like her mom or Slytherin like her dad but the thought of being in Ravenclaw with everyone being so smart or Gryffindor with everyone being so brave she did not want to think about. Soon enough the old hat broke out in song and everyone went silent.
Once the hat finished singing names started being called to sit on the stool and put the hat on their head. Her parents must have forgotten to mention that a hat chooses your house by seeing into your head she thought. Then soon enough the professor called “Cloven, Lavinia” and nervous Lavinia walked forward. She sat on the stool and placed the hat on top of her head like she had seen the other kids do.
Once the hat was on her head it started talking “I sense kindness and ambition also I sense knowledge and bravery but where to put you.” Lavinia just sat there for what felt like an eternity and waited for the hat to decide, soon enough people started groaning and whispering about her being a hatstall. After 7 minutes and 15 seconds according to her watch the hat finally made it’s mind and said “RAVENCLAW” and Lavinia just happy that it was over walked to the Ravenclaw table and took a seat to watch the rest of the sorting.

When Eloise's name was called, the beating of her heart excelled. It seemed that every step she took, the faster her heart beat. Balling her hands into fists and unclenching them, she takes her seat on the stool, the Sorting Hat being held above her head. It hadn't yet been placed upon her head, but it was almost as if she could already feel the worn fabric atop her head.
Countless eyes were on her, waiting in anticipation to hear what her house would become. Those sitting at the table, already sorted into their house, spoke in whispers. The excitement in the air was palpable. It somewhat helped to calm Eloise down, so she was thankful for that much. Suddenly, she felt the hat on her head. As soon as it touched her hair, the whispers were immediately cut off, as if everyone in the room had suddenly lost the ability to speak.
The hat sat on her head. Eloise could hear it muttering, barely above a mumble. Being the only one of her siblings to have received a Hogwarts letter, she had no clue what she was doing. She'd heard some things of Slytherin house, but she'd ignored them. Suddenly, the hat shouted:
Gryffindor!!
Eloise nearly jumped, but waited for the hat to be removed from her head as loud cheers erupted around her. Centered in a particular part of the room, though, were extremely loud yelps and whoops were coming from what she assumed was the Gryffindor table. Leaping off the stool, she made her way to the table of students adorning Gryffindor robes, a smile on her face

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
The onyx-haired boy stood attentively through the sorting in the Great Hall. His dark sapphire eyes shimmered repeatedly through the tension of the event. The scent of sweat and distinct, exotic perfumes emanated through the transparent air. Everyone was on edge, not one averted their eyes on one of the few important moments of their lives; Leo was no more than a result of the phenomenon that was the Sorting Hat.
He could remember, years ago when he was dreaming endlessly of the possibility of going to Hogwarts, and praying that he would get sorted into a great house, but never Slytherin. Leo, still to this day, hated the Slytherin house. It wasn't because it had a notoriously amount of Death-eaters and Evil magicians, rather, most of the people in the noble Quincy family were Slytherins, and the boy HATED those "over-privileged parasites," he would call them. Leo hadn't held any malice to the other houses, but he preferred Ravenclaw the most, finding their doctrine the most suited to him, and he adored the color blue.
Nonetheless, he wasn't scared, in fact, he was excited from the tension, craving more of it. His journey to the art of Magic would begin only moments left, the first chapter of Leopold Quincy. A girl who just finished her sorting, sat at the Hufflepuff table, chatting happily with her kind. The professor would clear their throat, "LEOPOLD TOSHIRO QUINCY!" The boy slowly walked to the seat, as everyone's eyes zoomed in on him as if he was becoming exposed by the second. The nervousness was beginning to set in, overweighing the excitement. Leo's legs felt like jelly, as well as his striding hands that were threatening to give up.
He couldn't.
Using the last bits of strength from his body, he sat on the chair, nearly exasperated. The professor put the sorting hat on Leo's dark mop hair. The hat began its analysis, "Ah, a calculative boy it seems." It paused for a second, "You wouldn't be part of the noble Quincy family aren't ya?" No response. " The silent treatment eh? You folk always seem to resemble each other some way or another, and I see some similarities with you." Leo's eyebrows twitched in annoyance. "You would do almost anything to achieve your goals and very clever indeed. Almost like a Slytherin." Leo sighed, he wasn't that different from his predecessors after all...
"Yet, your goals are not selfish at all, and the reason behind it, you want it to breed kindness, progressiveness, and fairness. You don't care what state you'll be in. Maybe you're not a Slytherin after all." Leo's eyes widened, his true personality will be revealed through the Sorting Hat.
"You want friends, people that you can trust; you want to be loved. You want to love with all of your heart." Leo's face turned ripe as a red-pepper, as if he ate something spicy, then bathed in hot water, "T-That's enough of that! I don't need a b-bloody hat telling me who I am!" The dark sapphire-eyed boy stammered, embarrassed. The hat made a crooked smirk, "You deeply admire intelligence, and you are very creative. I wouldn't be surprised if you made a few spells yourself, yeah?" "In conclusion, I see you as a cunning, compassionate, smart, modest boy, whose braveness, compassion, and intelligence rivals those of mature magicians. You may have some undesirable qualities, but like most children, you shall mature. I find you interesting, Leopold Quincy." The hat delayed for a few seconds, in deep thought.
"It would be a sin to not place you in RAVENCLAW!!!" The hat boomed through the Great Hall. Leo smirked, as he leaped off the chair, walking to the Ravenclaw table, as the welcomed him with open arms.
He needed to change the Magical world so that his friends' deaths wouldn't be for vain, his family's life wouldn't be spat on, to expose and eradicate the Quincy family for the plague they are on society. Hogwarts awakened Zero...

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Dale was terrified, as soon as he entered the castle he knew he did not fit in. Everyone around him was from an established wizarding family, and there he was, little Dale Kurt born from 2, as the wizards called them, muggles.
The sorting ceremony gave Dale a few grey hairs, the sorting hat scared Dale, what if it made a mistake.
But Dale did his research and knew what house he wanted to be in was Ravenclaw, a house for people who love to learn just like him, he could only hope he was meant for Ravenclaw.
"DALE KURT!", yelled the sorting hat. He quickly stood up and walked over to the stool, "Yes I see, curious and ambitious, ah a lizard lover as well, a good fit for SLYTHERIN!", and right then Dale's worst fears where realized, it was the one house he thought he would not be in. Worry not boy, you shall make a fin Slytherin. Dale still worried, but nevertheless, he got up and sat at the Slytherin table stress about the next 7 years.

The young girl's nerves had never been so taut in her short life. As she looked around, brown eyes wide with awe, she couldn't help but stand in wonder. To think her, Claire Bell, would finally be attending Hogwarts. Why, it was just so terribly incredible!
'I can't believe this is happening. Mother said it was amazing, but I never thought it would be quite like this.' Claire thought to herself, watching as a ghost without a head drifted passed her shoulder. She shivered at the touch, a wry grin softly surfacing on her features. Wicked.
The ghost passed on, not noticing or caring, until it reached the far table, where Claire's eyes caught the fabrics of emerald green. She had never had a preference for which house she would join, and looking at each she was filled with an almost hopeless sense of indecision. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw truth be told, and her father a Gryffindor. Neither had inspired her greatly, though Claire knew she carried traits of both.
Then, ofcourse, there was always the options of Hufflepuff and Slytherin. She didn't think she was 'people friendly' enough for Hufflepuff and Slytherin had a reputation that made her father squirm. Actually, her father would be very upset if she was sorted in to Slytherin, no doubt about it. Better off not for either.
"Claire Bell."
She blinked in surprise, looking up at the Professor who had called her name. Their face was expectant, and as Claire stared, she realized in belated mortification she probably should have been walking twelve seconds ago.
"Oh, right." She whispered not very quietly, walking forward and doing her best to hide the blush on her cheek from the eyes that seemed to watch her from every corner of the room.
The Professor gently sat the sorting hat upon her crown and the warm voice her father had warned her about began to speak, "A Bell, is it? Yes, I see. Clever and studious like your mother, but brave and loyal like your father. You have a kind, eager heart that craves understanding for those easily misunderstood and feared. You'd do wonderfully in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, there's no denying that, but I sense an ambition that only one House can truly nurture. Yes, better be....SLYTHERIN!"
Applause and cheers from the chosen table filled Claire's ears, bringing an uncontrollable smile to the young child's face, despite the incredible shock she still felt at the news. She'd actually done it! Claire Bell was officially a Hogwarts student now.
As she sat down next to her peers and housemates, the smile refused to diminishes, even as the horrid thoughts of owling her parents the details sat in the crevices of her thoughts like a overly hungry dementor.
Well, there was no use aching over spoiled milk, as her grandfather would say. Tonight she would feast and eat all the deserts her mother had never let her, and tomorrow...
Tomorrow, Claire would start worrying about the inevitable Howler that would be sure to follow.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Merle shuffled into the hall surrounded by fellow children, still somewhat unsure of what exactly was about to happen. As she stepped in, the very first thing she saw was the great arched ceiling. She stared - mouth gaping and mesmerized - at the wispy clouds drifting across the inky night sky, the constellations even more vivid and beautiful than she could have imagined.
She was rudely awakened from her reverie when the crowd of babbling children pushed forward into the hall, moving her with them. She couldn't help but be enthralled by the other sights around her. The laden tables of food reminded her that in her excitement, she'd forgotten to eat lunch except for the few candies she had on the train.
"Dunn, Muriel!" cried a voice from the front of the hall.
Was it her turn already? Merle made her way forward and sat upon the stool. She couldn't help but curl in on herself slightly under the gaze of the entirety of the hall. Her stomach had twisted itself into anxious, nervous little knots. Suddenly her anxiety dissipated when she realized she could no longer see all the people staring at her, which she immediately after realized was due to the fact that the strange, old, dusty hat she'd seen was now on her head.
"Strange, old, and dusty am I?" said an unknown voice directly into her mind.
Merle froze, the hat could talk?
"Indeed I can, but that's not the focus here. We need to figure out what house you belong in." The hat hummed. "I see that you have traits that could benefit you in any of the houses, but we couldn't put you in all four, now could we? No, there's always one that will benefit the young witch or wizard the most.
"You're independent and somewhat headstrong which could serve you well in Gryffindor. But you're not particularly rowdy are you?"
No, Merle thought, being surrounded primarily by rowdy people would get tiring quickly.
"You tend to have a habit of collecting and reusing things, I see. Very resourceful but also equally creative. Overall, you're very creative and individualistic. I think you'd do well in Ravenclaw."
"Ravenclaw!" cried the hat.
Merle blinked and as her vision cleared she saw a group of students swathed in blue standing and cheering. She smiled and made her way to her new table.

Julian stayed waiting outside the door of the Great Hall she heard so much about. The vast amount of rambling students left her head pounding and beg for silence was her immediate focus. Her beautiful and straight platinum hair stayed neatly down her shoulder and she kept a neutral expression on her face. She felt eyes- no, daggers- staring into her cheek as she moved her head over slightly to the right. The green eyes that met with hers seemed to hold hatred, though she did not know why the stranger held such hatred for her. She ignored the lingering stare and kept to herself for the remainder of the wait.
Suddenly, the bronze door began to slowly open in front of her eyes as the bright light of the Great Hall nearly stole her breath. Her mind closed out all the excited mumbles that came from the surrounding students and she seemed to zone out. The light sound that came from the steps of the others arose in her ears and they caused her to snap out of her quiet daydream. She shook her head to allow her mind to focus once more on her surroundings. Like all curious first years, she took a moment to explore the beautiful sight she dreamed of viewing. She allowed for a slight sigh to leave her soft lips as the beauty of the Great Hall mesmerized her.
'Holy shit... I'm here. I'm actually here.' Her thoughts repeated in her head as a sly smirk found its way to her face. A gentle giggle left her lips as excitement arose inside her.
The Sorting Hat sang its song like Julian expected it to. She hummed along with the tune as best as she could, waiting for this opportunity for as long as she could remember. After the blissful song of the Sorting Hat, the ceremony began. The sound of name after name ringing in her ear caused her mind to zoom out once more. She knew the house she wanted, her intelligence and individuality held her up to Ravenclaw's standards. Abruptly, the calling of a name pulled her out of her thoughts. A name. Her name.
"Julian Prado!"
Her eyes widened at the sound of her name, her body feeling frozen. Whispers filled her ears as the students were wondering why she wasn't running up to the hat as the others did. She cursed herself in her head before hesitantly walking up to the stool. She sat down on the wooden stool as she felt the warm wood touch the skin on the back of her lower thighs. She felt weirdly uncomfortable as she knew all eyes were focused on her. A pink blush found its way on her face as she felt the hat being placed on her head.
'Ah, such a peculiar mind. Yes indeed, such a strange choice to make, hm?' Julian felt her breath hitch as she knew that her choice was secure. She hoped that the Sorting Hat would take in count her want- no, need- of Ravenclaw. 'Ravenclaw? Really? I do see that you have the traits. I can clearly feel what you beg for. Well, if it is your preference.' Julian felt a smile curve onto her face as it sounded that he took in her want for Ravenclaw.
"Seems like we've made a choice," Julian looked at the Ravenclaw table with a prideful expression, seeing the students that caught her eye look excited. "SLYTHERIN!"
The ring of Slytherin being yelled across the Great Hall made her stomach plummet and her smile drop. She heard the laughter from the Sorting Hat vibrate inside her ear when she felt the weight of the hat being relieved from her head. Her long legs brought her off the stool as her silent mind was interrupted by the cheering coming from the prideful Slytherins. She cracked a smile towards the Ravenclaw table, the students nodding towards her in acceptance. She then walked over to her new house as the cheers got louder. She felt her awkward smile turn into a bright one as the blush she held from the attention grew brighter and more noticeable. She sat down next to the first and second years that made her disappointment turn into pride. She found comfort in her new house and joined in the cheers before hearing them settle down.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019

[font=times new Roman]“I'm not taking you to the hospital just because you stubbed your toe.”
Cricket was standing next to a new friend she'd made. They were waiting to go to the Sorting Ceremony, but first they were to listen to Headmaster make a speech, something some people, like Cricket, weren't too keen on hearing.
She was more focused on giggling with the girl next to her, who'd banged her foot against some furniture and was now exaggerating her pain, her face creased with agony and making swooning motions. She was trying to of course get out of the speech and go elsewhere but Cricket didn't want to miss the Sorting Ceremony, and that's where they'd be going right afterwards. Besides, why would anyone want to come in late with everyone staring at them because a barely bruised toe?
The girl gestured for her to play along but Cricket shook her head slightly and pretended to be intent on listening to the speech. She heard a sigh behind her but shrugged her shoulders and moved closer.
“I bet she's not even listening anyways. Or she probably wants to look cool for the Headmaster.”
Cricket shot a glare behind her. She made to say something, something equally as ignorant, but then the crowd of first-years began to move forward. She felt her heart quicken; they were on their way to the Great Hall!
As they walked, Cricket doing so alone but not minding that fact, she looked around at the walls and furniture. She wasn't new to moving pictures but it was still interesting to see the paintings who looked back at her with different expressions. She wondered if she'd get to the know them and if they'd help if she ever had problems.
While she walked she overheard other kids talk about the Houses, and which one they knew they'd get into. She rolled her eyes; there was really no point in talking about that, the Sorting Hat did its job by putting them in one. But she couldn't help but wonder, too, which one would she fit in?
Cricket didn't really understdidt how and why people were sorted into a certain House. Her father was a Hufflepuff, her mother was a Ravenclaw, her older half-sister was a Ravenclaw, and her brother is a Gryffindor. Everyone always compared her to someone in her family but she was like so many people that she couldn't decide which one she was most like. One of her cousin once said that she was just like herself, and that's what it should be.
Now they were entering the Great Hall. It was huge, but maybe it was just the starry ceiling that made it feel that way. There were floating candles four rows of tables, and another line of tables all the way in the back where some of the professors sat. It was both exciting and scary, but Cricket wouldn't admit the latter to anyone, not even herself. She walked with the other first years, her black robes brushing against her ankles, and for some reason all of this, the events and everything, made her feel more like a witch than anything else. She just couldn't put her finger on why, exactly.
When it was her turn to be sorted, after a brief wait—having a last name closer to the beginning of the alphabet had many advantages—Cricket saddled up to the hat and grinned, her teeth gleaming.
“Well, here's an excited one.”
She shrugged. “I just can't wait to be sorted. I hope I'm in Gryffindor.”
“Gryffindor?” the hat scoffed. “I think not, child.”
Cricket narrowed her eyes. “And what does that mean?” Maybe he saw what she saw, that she was just the same as everyone else, but also different. She figured people who were normal with a bit more courage than everyone else got into Gryffindor, and she sure was brave, even more than brave. What did this hat know?
“I think I'm good enough for Gryffindor, so what's with it?”
“It's not about what you're good enough for, young one, but what's good enough for you.” He must of noticed the quizzical look on her face, no matter how brief, because he added, “It may not be clear now but you'll understand when you're older.”
Cricket gripped the chair harder. “...yes, sir...” No one could blame her for her skepticism.
It wasn't a few seconds before he called out, “SLYTHERIN!”
Cricket's eyes nearly popped out of her head. Was this... reality? She had absolutely no idea she would get into this House. She knew of a Pure-blood relative but they were so distant from her family that she felt like she had next to know connection to them. And from rumors she'd heard she didn't think she was a Slytherin...
Cricket wondered, as she walked towards the Slytherin table, if any of the books she'd gotten in Diagon Alley had any information on the Houses. Of course, dumby, she thought. If there's a book about the History of Hogwarts there's bound to be something about the Houses. It sucked that she hated reading, though. And it was too late anyway, any information she would find about how to act a certain way to be sorted into the House she wanted was useless at this point.
Cricket felt like someone was staring at her and turned around, ready to glare, but then she caught sight of something—no, someone: her brother.
Cricket smiled weakly, lifting her hand. Owen had a hard look on his face, his thick brows furrowed so close that it almost resembled one line. But when he really noticed her his face clear and he nodded, but she still could feel how upset he was. He probably felt like he couldn't protect her anymore now that she was in a different House but Cricket wanted to tell him not to worry, she could take care of herself.
She looked away and watched the other kids get sorted. It was going to be an interesting next seven years at Hogwarts, and not just because she was sorted into Slytherin. It was as if something was telling her that she had a lot in store and this was just the beginning of the unexpected.
