Knitting Night
Closed to further interactionsEverly's brows creased in determination, as she set down her needles again and found the end of the yarn to knot it. The red yarn tangled through her arms and she bit her lip as this happened repeatedly. Using two fingers to grasp the end of the yarn, she unraveled it and picked up a needle with a soft clink, retying a knot at the end of the needle. Then she picked up the other needle and began to loop through the yarn again.
Her head tipped downwards and she squinted at the needles and yarn in her hand. Everly let out a sigh of relief as she knotted and finally managed to finish her first scarf. She held it up so she could glance at it, trying to ignore the abnormal amount of uneven stitches. Shrugging, she told herself that practice made perfect, right? She reached towards the the ball of green yarn, fumbling with it as she tried to find the start of the yarn somewhere within it.
Finally, she'd managed to knit somewhat of a scarf for herself, Asher, Thomas, Amara, and her parents. Everly placed the scarves in her arm as she returned the needles. Perhaps this wasn't what she had in mind at the beginning of the day, but she could call it fun.word count: 219

Knitting, something Alec actually knew a thing or two about. Self-taught like everything had been with him, he was okay at it. The objective in which the way he wanted his items to look always turned out a bit off, it'd happened when he started learning how to sew too, but the blame for that one was not being able to focus. Actually, hence the reason Alec had picked up knitting in the first place. It didn't raise his attention span any longer than it normally would have. But it certainly did help with him getting lost in his thoughts. He'd got lost in them, not paying attention to anything actually important, and ultimately find himself getting into trouble because of it. Or having friends confused as they waited for a long gone Alec to make some sort of answer and input in the conversation at hand. In his defense the kid was not a master conversationalist so there was doubt it'd ever work out in his favor, but attempts were made, and therefore of, not lacking.
Now when Alec had heard about the errand, he'd pushed it off to the side. He was busy, had homework to study for, and things to get done. But as the days went on it got more and more tempting, mainly for a break from all that and much more of which Alec hadn't listed. Objectively, even though the boy was brilliant in knitting, he found the activity quite calming. With the stress of also heading back home for winter break, Alec preferred something calming to calm the nerves. There was always some drama going around the Mason house by winter time. Whether it be the longest version of a family tree ruined by falling bookshelves at his grandparents' house of which there was only one copy of. Family getting mad about his aunt with a muggle, all ties cut off completely. Or the dreaded silence at large family gatherings and dinners for other reasons.
Moving on from the long introduction, Alec was here now after a lecture on how to knit and knitting. Any tips were greatly appreciated. Maybe it'd turn out better? Possibly? Alec decided he was going to work on a scarf. Standing at the edge of the Slytherin table, Alec reached for a plain pair of knitting needles, bigger than ones he usually would've picked. With the want for bulkier yarn, Alec chose knitting needles that would work for such. Alec had some of his own knitting needles, borrowed from his cousin, but they were at home. Possibly something to look forward to at home then? Since there was no way it'd be done by tonight, he just went for the obvious other answer.
Alec let a smile reach his lips as he reached for yarn, in the only color most pleasing on the eyes or his eyes more specifically, purple. The shade dark, it was an eye-catching purple, a deep color the purple if it was paint it would obviously mixed with more red than blue. Softer than most yarn already, Alec had decided he liked the yarn already. As Alec started to knit he noticed his hands start to fumble, it had been a while since he'd knit so the motion for when he'd done such had been long forgotten; it took a minute for him to pick it up again. In, around, through and off, and again. Making up for his mistakes quickly and finally being able to focus, he looked around. Out of all the people here Alec recognized three, Michael, Cash, and Henry. All Slytherins, funny how that worked. This was their table, but it was more of the overall fact that he barely knew anybody from houses on then Slytherin. Was that bad? Alec should probably know his dorm mates more than he did.. Avoidance wasn't the best answer to everything else in life clearly.
Although the reason for avoidance was different, then one might expect. You know the feeling you really just don't fit in? Yeah, that was how he felt in a room full of Gryffindors. Hence the end-of-year slumber party in the common room. That was a mess, and Alec was there making stupid choices, like playing spin the bottle because everyone else was doing it and he wanted to fit in. Long story short, he had an older girl kiss him, a third year or something like that. A boy who faked kissing him, the one thing Alec was thankful for instead of actually being kissed. Then he decided instead of a chosen hug like one could do when you spin the bottle, to kiss the girl, the one sitting right next to him there, the one who probably now hated him.
His knitting slowed to a stop as he became absorbed in his thoughts, only fifteen minutes later realizing he'd stopped. In short, that was his summary of the night, him quiet as he focused on knitting. His thoughts beyond the point of this ended quite peaceful, future sketch ideas roaming around in his head, as he thought trying to figure out what to give people. The arrangement Alec had come up with in his head so far was that all his friends except Wyatt were getting bought gifts. Ones with thought still put into them, but not ones that would make him worry that they weren't good enough to give.
Wyatt deserved a better present than Alec's art, or something stupid Alec had made up. But he'd made a point to let Alec know his art was good, and he liked it. A confidence booster Alec probably wouldn't have been doing this without as he thought about it now. Anything remotely close to sketching or sewing or even creative activities like knitting Alec would never do at school. But ever since the summer, he'd made a slow means too. Starting small sketches every so often, to doing his nails here, and knitting. A freeing feeling to be able to do something more Alec's style for a change. Alec had now concluded Wyatt deserved more of a gift than Alec could ever make or buy all of his friends did, so he was definitely settling for his art now. At least with Wyatt, and who knows, maybe a hopefully fully done by that time purple scarf as well.

With this the errand is completed and it can be assumed Alec has both come and left the thread.
