Folding Under Pressure

It was evening after supper when she walked beyond the entrance to The Great Hall to see a small gathering of people inside. Her intent was to head outside, even with the slight drizzle outside, and do a bit of exploring but this caught her attention. She wandered in to take a look around.
Various colors of square papers were lying out across the long wooden tabletops and she saw instructions on how to do various foldings of different animals. Origami. She had heard of it before but never tried it. Apparently it was a great way to ease anxiety and she certainly had that these days with some low marks in class and potential family issues.
There were some various magical creature instructions and then the different house mascot's. She saw the one that was the badger and knew without a doubt it was the cutest one of all of them. She had whittled one out of wood a couple weeks ago, surely folding one out of paper would be much easier.
She took some paper and some instruction pages over to the Hufflepuff table and sat down, scanning over the directions before her. It looked fun and she hoped maybe some of her fellow Hufflepuffs would join her for some badger-making fun and forget about their troubles for a little while.

Crystal was wandering around as usual, just seeing what was going on, when she spotted a table that was set up covered in colorful paper. She was immediately curious, and walked closer to take a closer look. It appeared to be origami paper, and there were instruction sheets for all different kinds of animals. And of course, she was drawn to the magical creature instructions. As nice as it would be to make her house mascot, a dragon is just so interesting. A unicorn is cool too, but dragons can breathe fire. Also the dragon looked rather complicated compared to some of the others, and Crystal liked a challenge. She picked up a dragon instruction sheet as well as a couple of blue sheet of origami paper and headed into the great hall to make it.
As Crystal walked over to the Hufflepuff table, she saw Alina sitting there. Alina had her own sheet of origami paper as well. She smiled brightly and rushed over to her friend, plopping down in the seat next to her. "Hey Alina! You decided to do some origami as well?" she greeted her friend, spreading out her instructions in front of her. There were a lot of papers, but thankfully the directions all had an image with them. So there would hopefully be little confusion on what to do. She also had multiple attempts, so this shouldn't be too bad. "What did you decide to make?" She asked Alina "Cause I'm doing a dragon," she said as she picked up one of the origami papers, beginning to fold.

She smiled when Crystal came over her way. "Hi, Bren!" she greeted one of her best friends there in the castle. "A dragon? Quite ambitious of you," and it was, but was also totally awesome. She was having her own troubles just with the badger. Heck, at this rate she wasn't sure she could do a simple paper airplane or even fold a paper in half. "I'm trying to start small....with our badger. I have a sort of....half badger, half deflated air balloon over here..."
"I've heard this can reduce anxiety and well...let's just say my marks aren't the best." The best. Ha! That was such a lie. Her grades were TERRIBLE! "And coming up to the end of the school year I could use a little less anxiety. So much going on! Soon going home, essays due, projects to be done, assignments to be completed, professors being dramatic, boys being oblivious, friends that we'll be saying goodbye to..." it was all so much.
Alina tried another fold and then had to sort of hold it while grasping two parts of the paper near the bottom and pull them upward. She nearly got it, but dropped it onto the table and started again to repeat the step. This origami stuff was much harder than it looked...and it didn't even look easy to begin with!

Crystal nodded, it was rather ambitious of her to choose to do the dragon. It was extremely complex, but she had done a small amount of origami before. It was a couple of years ago in an art class, the entire class was required to make a paper crane. While she wasn't the best at it, it did give her enough confidence to challenge herself. She glanced over at what Alina had so far "It looks pretty good Alina," she complimented her friend. Compared to her first try with origami it looked like a masterpiece. Crystal's first attempt, if you could even call it that, ended with lots of ripped paper and it ending up in the bin.
While she was following along with the instructions, running through the first page of instructions, she listened along to Alina's ranting. There was a lot going on, and Crystal wasn't really paying attention to the fact that the end of the year was coming up. It would suck to have to say goodbye to her friends, it would suck to have to say bye to Alina. Everybody in hufflepuff had become her temporary family while she was away. Speaking of family...
A while ago, she owled her mother about a lemon treat, and last night she finally got the package back. Her mum sent her a batch of two dozen mini lemon tarts for her to share with her friends. Crystal herself had already eaten two, and she handed out a couple to the huffles who were in the dorm when she received her package. She was saving the rest for when she ran across Alina, so she carried them in her bag with her. She folded another crease in it like it told her to in step eight before setting the paper down, rustling through her bag. She pulled out the box of tarts and set them on the table in between her and Alina. "These might help you de-stress. Remember those lemon tarts my mum told me she would make for us? I finally got them the other day, you can snack on em while you make your badger," she offered, taking the cover off of the box. Crystal herself grabbed one of the lemon pastries, eating it before picking up her paper. "I could always study with you, it might help with our remaining assignments and quizzes," Crystal mentioned while folding over one of the flaps.

"Oh, Bren, they look absolutely amazing!" she said as she grabbed one and took a small bite from it. Things such as lemon deserts deserved to be cherished and this one didn't disappoint. She had said her mother was a baker and it seemed she was very good at it. "You'll have to thank her for me. They're wonderful. Or I could send her my own thank you." How did Crystal live with a mother that baked like this and not weigh 300 pounds?!
Alina was now on step 8 of her badger and it resembled more of a tee-pee she had once learned about in early American history. Early American history...it seemed almost nonexistent when compared to the rich history of Europe.
She was at the part that always gave her a difficult time, where you had to flatten down one part and then tuck in another part and it just never seemed to go right. Instead of tossing it onto the floor though, she set it down gently and decided to take a small break to enjoy some of the lemon tarts.
"You think we could?" she asked curiously, glancing to Bren. Bren had brought up the idea of them studying together. "...My marks are absolutely terrible," she whispered. "I mean like....tragically terrible. I don't know why!" Well, she did know why. Some assignments weren't complete, some weren't turned in at all, and she never hesitated to give her professors some sass. "I could use a study sort of intervention. As soon as possible...but later on. Right now is for origami and lemon tarts."

Crystal was glad that Alina seemed to be enjoying the tarts her mother made. "I'll be sure to send her an owl that you liked them," she told Alina, rushing through the second page of her dragon. She was finally able to look at the stupid thing from a different angle, and she continued creating creases. She eventually got to an interesting part, but she managed to wrangle the paper into the position it needed to be in. Two pages in, three more to go. The next couple of steps weren't all that difficult though, thankfully.Interacting with @Alina Rosier
"We can study together tomorrow then, try and help get the rest of your marks up," she said, pausing on the 31-36 steps. She had to look over the instructions a couple of times before she understood the idea of what she needed to do. But she kept glancing back and forth as she carefully followed the instructions. But it was finally starting to look like the base of a dragon, even it it was slightly crinkled in some spots. It was looking decent though, not the best origami ever but definitely not her worst.
She carefully started to work on the head, being much more careful to make sure all of her creases stayed neat. She carefully folded end the end of a triangle to make the snout flat and creased the tail before finally starting work on the wings, giving the dragon arms as she started. She folded the wings back and forth, created the creases in the wings. To finish it off, she pinched the top of the wings to make a gradual curve on the top of the wing. "Neat! Alina look at this! I think I remember reading on one of the papers at the table that I could have a house elf enchant it so that it can move, should I?" She asked her friend, holding up her newly created paper dragon.

"Having it breathe fire would be amazing!" she laughed but then her smile fell because she thought about the house elves there at the castle. She shuttered a little. Weren't they a bit creepy? "You should do that though. I don't think the badgers can be enchanted to do anything fun," she looked over the sheet of paper with the instructions but didn't see anything listed.
"Points for cuteness, I suppose," she said and held up the one she had just finished creating in the palm of her hand and examined it from each angle. She placed it next to the one she had done previously on the table and liked the progress she made. This second one was much better than the first. Improvement!
"You looking forward to summer almost being here?" It seemed to be what everyone was talking about these days and Alina herself was rather hesitant, but what could she do? Soon they'd be leaving Hogwarts to head back to their homes and their families for a few months. That's what she had to remember. That's what needed to be important. It would only be for a few months and then hopefully everyone would be on their way back.

I'm so sorry things got busy and I couldn't respond to everything for awhile T-TInteracting with @Alina Rosier
She smiled and nodded, looking around for a house elf while listening to Alina talk. "Personally I think that a badger would look really cute just walking around, it doesn't have to be a magical creature to be interesting. In fact sometimes non magical creatures can be just as interesting. Have you seen a cuttlefish? Those things can change their color to blend into their surroundings, I think they can even change their texture," She started to rant, before quickly catching herself and letting Alina continue to talk.
After Alina asked her if she was exited for summer, she paused. Yeah she was exited to be able to see her family again, and it would be nice to be back in her neighborhood. It would also be nice to not deal with the craziness that Hogwarts attract. But she also loved the darn place, sometimes the craziness was what she needed. The professors were so fantastic and kind, and it would be weird leaving her house dorm. It felt like home. "I don't know if i'm exited or not, I'm exited to see my parents. But I also don't wanna leave my new family behind," she smiled at Alina.
Crystal spotted a house elf walking around, and quickly caught their attention. She politely asked if they would enchant her dragon for her. The house elf agreed and very soon Crystal's little blue dragon was wandering around the table and spitting out little puffs of flame. It kept pacing between her and Alina. "So adorable," Crystal laughed.
