Be Cool About Fire Safety

It was a beautiful May Day in Scotland. A bit humid, some sprinkling rain in the morning, but that only made it better for the nurses' plans. He spent all morning bringing chairs into the courtyard for students to use for his presentation. There had been fliers put up around that promised house points for those willing to show up and participate, as Kels knew more than anything how hard to was to get up the motivation to attend something as boring as a lecture. On a Saturday, no less. Luckily, as curious students poked their heads out after breakfast, he rallied a few helpers to finish up the slapdash job. This is a mass thread for the errand described here. Read through the errand description and requirements before posting here.
Still, it was a worthy cause if the mumblings of the student populace were true. As magic users, it was inevitable that fire would be a part of their education, but that didn't mean they would be taught much beyond how to magically snuff it out. Knowing how fire grew, how to put it out manually, how to mitigate damage and avoid serious burns were all often relegated to muggle teachings-- but no more! Even though he wouldn't be mentioning muggle staples like fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, there was still a lot to say. So much so, he had trouble getting the list down to a few things.
Once enough of the chairs had filled up, and his guest, Professor Atticus Wade had arrived, Kels stepped out in front of the students and stood on the fountain to get everyone's attention by waving his arms and shouting. "Everyone shut yer traps!" He was not hired as an event planner, he didn't have to be good at this. Still, he did honestly hope this would come in useful, perhaps even prevent the next wave of serious harm these poor kids seemed to always run head-first into.
"Alrighty, all a' you know what fire is, most a' you can even make it. Do you know how t'react when a fire gets outta control? Welp, I'm gonna do my best t'teach you what you need t'know!" He was really trying to keep his speech understandable, he normally wasn't exactly the best at enunciating his words. "Best thing you can do is prevention, don't use fire around flammable objects, or fire stimulants like gas or alcohol. Fire feeds on oxygen in th'air, so if ya can't extinguo, try dousin' it in water or snuffin' it out! Barrin' that, any time yer in a new place, check out where the exits are, and know where yer gonna go if ya need to escape in a hurry!"
Still standing on the fountain, he'd pull out a can of hair spray. "Watch this. Do it, Wade!" At his call, the cowboy professor would cast the familiar Incendio spell, and Kels would briefly spray the can, the aerosol contents blazing in a plume unrelated to the spell's original trajectory. Kids would undoubtedly be ooo'ing and aaa'ing at this radical display. "See what I mean by fire stimulant? Always be aware a' yer surroundings when usin' fire. It can spread real quick in the right conditions. That's the same reason you shouldn't leave t'room when candles are burnin'. It only takes one thing to set fire goin', an' two minutes for it to get completely outta control."
Dropping the can on the ground with a clank, it was time to move on. Kids got bored easily, and so did Kels, so he knew he had to keep it punchy and quick, before he got distracted by something. "If there's a fire what's caught on, there's gonna be smoke. Inhalin' smoke can cause serious damage to yer lungs, and you can even DIE. Smoke always rises tho, so stickin' close to the ground can make it easier to breathe." The amount of things kids didn't know was a bit overwhelming, but these were good places to start. "But do not try to use a wind spell! Remember what I said about oxygen? That might get rid a' smoke, but strong wind will make the fire grow!"
With that, another fun demonstration with Professor Wade casting Incendio, and Kels casting Ventus. The flames grew even bigger than they had before, roaring up into the sky, certainly shocking any kid looking out the windows at that moment. At that point, a few kids were clapping. Hopefully it wasn't because they were happy to learn how to make fire more devastating.
"Now... if yer headin' to an exit an' the door is closed, check the heat of the doorknob, or the slit under the door with t'back of yer hand." There was no demonstration for this one, he wasn't going to make Wade hurt himself on a piece of metal, as hilarious as it would be to hear him saw 'Yee-ow'. He just pointed to the back of his hand. "Metal conducts heat, so you'll know if there's fire on the other side. Obviously, don't go into a room with more fire."
"When you get outta the fire, go get help. You'll save more people gettin' an adult than you will tryin' to pull others out. People weigh more than y'think. If ya have'ta carry someone away, use a sheet or other slide-y fabric t'make it easier." This was the one Kels was most looking forward to. He laid a coat down on the ground and then laid himself down beside it, leaving it up to Wade to haul him into the coat, and then slide the coat along the ground, showing off how much easier it was to pull the weight when using sliding force. "Woooo!" Also it was fun to get dragged around.
After that was over, Kels hustled back to his spot on the fountain, too short to be seen in the back otherwise. "Remember the fire triangle: heat! Oxygen! Fuel! Take away any of these and the fire dies! Add any, and it gets bigger! Got it?" He clapped once, his speedrun of a presentation over. Now was the time for the 'fun'. "If ya think you got it, why not show off yer stuff? Apply this knowledge to complete one of my deadly obstacle courses!"
Of course they weren't actually deadly, Kelsey and Atticus were right there, and would make sure nothing actually got out of hand. He had picked the transfiguration professor for a reason, and it wasn't because he was cool. Well, not entirely. Professor Wade would swish his wand around and transfigure the courtyard into a bisected room reminiscent of 90s children's game shows, as per Kels' prior instruction. There would be a bit of variation to keep the kids watching from getting too bored, but it would be testing their retention of the things he had said. Or trying to, at least.
Reply to this thread with a post of at least 600 words describing running one of these courses:OOCRoom 1 - Smoke Room
Navigate through two rooms filled with smoke. It will be impossible to see while in the smoke, and there is a closed door somewhere in the room that you must find. You have two minutes to find the door and escape before 'the fire' gets you. (There is no fire, and this smoke is Fumos, not poisonous.)Room 2 - Fire Room
There will be an imitation of a messy classroom, and Wade will set something flammable on fire. It's up to you to find something to put it out in the room. Hidden somewhere in the room is a container of clear water unlabeled and a container of clear oil unlabeled that you'll have to smell to differentiate (though this has not been explained beforehand). Common items such as paper, curtains, and other highly flammable things will be around so you can get creative. Using extinguo is not acceptable, and you would be asked to try again and the fire re-set if you do. (This will be a bluebell flame, which will not burn you if touched, but will catch flammable objects on fire like a normal fire.)Room 3 - Buddy Room
You and a buddy (or a faceless NPC) will need to escape a mini labyrinth. Mid-way through, one student will be chosen to get 'incapacitated' (Kels will abruptly announce it) and must be carried the rest of the way. This course has two closed doors in it, one leading to a smoke room and the other leading to victory. Being incapacitated simply means you act as dead weight, not that you will actually be knocked out.
- How you run it, and whether you succeed is up to your imagination. You cannot run more than one. No two obstacle courses will be exactly the same, each summoning is unique.
- You may also write a reply as a spectator if your student would not be the type to perform in front of a crowd.
- Once you have completed your post, log it in the errand thread.
- This is true across the whole site, but directly quoting anything Kelsey has said in this post does not count towards your total word count.
- You may describe the audiences' reaction to your feats, and minorly godmod Kelsey and Atticus either clapping or encouraging you, but anything more and you should ask us for permission first.
- If you have any questions at all, feel free to owl me or message me on Discord for clarification.

Be Cool About Fire Safety
✿ Room 2 - Fire Room ✿
Willow had experienced a fair amount of fire trauma at her time at Hogwarts. Mainly just that fateful night just over a year ago where something in her common room exploded and set the homely safe place ablaze. When she saw that the local Doctor Nurse Brumby was holding a fire safety presentation with the new transfiguration professor, Willow knew that she had to go. It was about time that she started learning some things that didn't require magic since she didn't know if she would always be able to fight it out with her wand. Besides, she was a muggle! She didn't have to rely on magic means.
After arriving in the courtyard she listened to the presentation dutifully, flinching back at the fire propelled by hair spray opposed to the other students that seemed to be fascinated. While she trusted the two adults, that seemed like a bit of a dangerous demonstration. How many of the students would be trying that later despite the lesson not to do that because it looked so cool. Her eyebrows were furrowed in concentration at how to handle smoke, checking doors, saving friends, and getting help. Despite the chaos to the lesson, there were a lot of good nuggets of information that she was sure to be grateful for later. She had a brief thought wondering if magic fire was harder to put out compared to regular fire, but that would be a question she could ask him later. She should've brought a notebook and pen to write down the fire triangle, but in a regular fire emergency she wouldn't have time to flip through notes. This would have to be something she remembered in the heat of the moment.
When it came to picking an obstacle course she went with the fire room. The Hufflepuff fire did have a lot of smoke, but she felt like she could handle that. With the buddy room, she had come alone and didn't really feel like panicking to find a partner. The fire room seemed to be the most useful, though her stomach churned at the idea of it. Her hands were shaking, her legs were wobbling, she felt like she was already melting into a puddle and there was nothing aflame yet. She stepped up to the classroom, trying to take account of her surroundings as soon as she walked in. Trying to locate anything that could help her later. In the back of her head she heard some encouragement from the nurse, but she couldn't process it. She was already panicking.
Tentatively she took steps into the classroom, her hands were clasped in front of her, her wand was in her back pocket but it brought little comfort as she knew she wasn't allowed to spell her way out of this. Behind her she heard the roar of a flame as Professor Wade set a desk on fire to begin the exercise. For a moment she froze, staring at the flame. It was a quick one to spred with the mess that surrounded it. "The circle! Square? Triangle! It was a triangle!" She was muttering to herself. The shape. "Ok, heat. Uh, it is hot. That sure is a fire."
She turned away from it, there was no sense it staring it down as it grew. That wasn't constructive. Heat... Oxygen... Fuel. One of those, she had to get rid of one of those. Water? There had to be water somewhere. The Professors had to put something in the room that she could douse the flame with, surely. Her feet moved before she could think to, her eyes scanning the room as quickly as they could. In a corner tucked away behind a desk she spotted a bucket, this had to have something right? She ran to it and picked it up, but as the liquid sloshed around she noticed it moved differently than water. It was thicker. "What... what is this?" She quickly smelled it to try and ascertain what it was before putting her hand in it as a test of feel. "This... this isn't water. Why!" She quickly but carefully dropped the bucket back on the ground as the fire began to consume curtains up the walls and pages that quickly burnt up into ash.
Once again she began to move through the classroom, looking for another bucket, a fire blanket, anything really. She knew in the back of her head that she wouldn't die here, not with two adults watching on (unless they were secretly hags, who knew at this school). But the panic growing in her heart still felt very real to her. The fact that this was just an exercise with a crowd watching faded away, and she was in very real danger. Along the far side of the wall on the opposite side of the room from the oil bucket she spotted a similar looking container. This one Willow was already cautious about, but the finder felt quite lucky that she was able to locate it at all. This one moved like water, it smelled like water, when she dipped her finger in it it felt like water. This is what she needed to get out of here. Bucket in hand she ran to where the fire started and tossed it onto the source. The source of the flame was extinguished, while the fire that climbed that walls was too far away to douse as it ran out of fuel of a curtain that did end that quickly extinguished herself.
With a deep breath, she felt quite proud of herself. She did this alone, by muggle means. It was just another thing that reminded her that magic wasn't always the superior method of solving problems. Her legs were still shaking as she left, but the hands that had doused a fire were still and confident.✿ 980 Words - Errand Complete ✿

Be Cool About Fire Safety
Room 2 - The Fire Room
Fun presentation, live-action, and bribery? It did not take a long time for Aurora to agree on listening to how to kill the deadly fire. Who knew how much fire she would encounter in the future? Six years to go, it may be helpful for her and other’s safety
Aurora chose something that will be more interesting for her. And that would be the fire room. She calmly stepped into the classroom, hands in her pocket, occasionally checking her lucky charm, aka chocolate, was there. Her eyes wandered around the messy classroom, just to observe things that might be useful for her attempt on extinguishing the fire without any spell and not end up embarrassing herself in front of the audience. She noticed two things that might be useful, the mysterious containers under the desk and on the corner of the room. If it wasn’t because she felt the classroom seemed a little brighter, she wouldn’t realise that Professor Wade just set a piece of furniture on fire. And that was the time her mind went blank while her composure remained calm as if she was unbothered. If there were no audience, she would cry her heart out until someone come and rescue her, but she could not, or people will acknowledge her as a cry baby.
“Okay, okay.. relax, you have a chocolate.” Aurora hastily opened the chocolate wrapper halfway so it wouldn’t catch on fire and make it even more dangerous as she grabbed the nearest chair and sat on it. What kind of person who will calmly sit down and eat a chocolate bar while her surrounding is on fire? Aurora. People might think she was a crazy kid who did not care if the fire turns her into a roast chicken. When the truth was an immense fear of death washed over her mind. As the fire grew bigger, her chocolate slightly melted down her fingers. She mumbled to herself, “Wait, chocolate is highly flammable, oh no, I’m so going to die.” She swallowed the whole chocolate and put the wrapper back in her pocket. With a swift move, The brown-haired girl ran to the desk to check the inside of the container under it.
She lifted the lid, couldn’t smell a thing since the fire was too distracting. Both of her hands grip the edge of the container and shake it, enough to not make whatever inside it spilt. Just as she thought, way too thick to be water. It left shiny residue on the lid as well, it might be some type of clear oil. She glanced towards the fire, It was spreading more and more, the chair that she previously sat on was halfway on fire. The flame wanted to eat it. What a greedy fire. Aurora closed the lid and move to another container on the corner of the room, hidden behind a chair that was not big enough to hide it. As she opened the lid, she did the same thing as before. Aurora dipped her finger just a bit in the liquid to make sure even more. It was water. She dragged the water container with all of her strength and was about to splash the water into the fire, she remembered when her mother burned something in the kitchen.
“Was it a grease fire? If it is, pouring water to it will make me say goodbye to the audience. Better be safe.” Although she knew very well that the fire was harmless, it was better to act like a real deal. Aurora put the container down, rushed over the curtain. Luckily it has not burned down yet. She rolled the curtain with a quick move until it fits the water container to dampen it so she could place it on top of the fire. If the fire hasn’t died down, she probably will take off her sweater and soak it in the water before putting it on top of the fire as well.
As the fire died, she let out a relieved sigh and looked towards the school nurse and Professor Wade. She said, “Killed it, Professor, Nurse Brumby” with a calm voice as if nothing happened, tried to cover the fact that her heart almost burst out of her ribcage.

Be Cool About Fire Safety
May 1st
Ana hadn't committed herself to any extracurriculars during her First Year at Hogwarts and that was strange, even for her. It wasn't that she was indifferent to the organisations that the school had, it was more so that she couldn't discover something to excite her for longer than five minutes. As her school year drew to a close, Ana recognised that she required more than just excellent grades if she was going to succeed. It led to her hopelessly trying to involve herself in anything that she came across, no matter the subject. On her route from class A to class B, the fliers fixed to the walls by the school nurse that declared House Points would be awarded for participation grabbed her focus. Ana wasn't the type to easily tempted by such trivial things but decided that she would attend the lecture. She had high expectations that the discussion would be both educational and stimulating, and how was she to tell how many disasters she was going to get herself into in the forthcoming years?
At the allotted time, and no later, the girl walked into the courtyard to attend the lecture. Clothed in a pink t-shirt that was most definitely too big for her, and a pair of blue shorts, at least Ana was certain that if she succumbed to the smoke in the room that they would be capable of detecting her. The time between the lecture commencing and Ana arriving granted her time to be alone with her thoughts, and Ana had begun to wonder whether this was a good idea. The atmosphere was sticky from the rain that descended earlier, and Ana wrinkled her nose at how uncomfortable and lukewarm the air was despite her outfit leaving her all the room to breathe. She wasn't granted many opportunities to consider leaving, however, when the talk from Nurse Brumby began. Ana stood and listened to the Nurse speak attentively, her head inclining regularly at his statements. Perhaps what she was uncovering here would be valuable later in life, Ana pondered to herself.
The time to choose an obstacle approached, and Ana firmly settled on tackling the smoke barrier. It appeared to be the most straightforward of the three; she had arrived here alone which ruled out the "buddy room" and naturally, fire panicked her, just as it would anyone else. The idea of spending five minutes isolated in a room with fire, even if it was only for educational purposes, made Ana anxious to the bone. The smoke room would be swift, smooth and enable her to urgently get out of this warmth and into the chilling passages of the castle. Ana remained relaxed, patient as ever as she awaited her turn to start, stressing to herself the advice and information that Kels had just presented to her and the others in the courtyard.
When the time arrived for Ana to partake in the course, she apprehensively approached the door to the classroom. Her stomach ached at the thought of the display, but she presented herself to be confident of her choice and her expertise nonetheless. Shoulders back, head held up high, Ana braced herself for whatever she was about to wander into, and she once again emphasised the advice that was given to her by the Professors. When she stepped in, she took only one glimpse behind at the Professors, but it brought her no relief knowing that they were there. Ana didn't gaze at them for long before smoke ascended through the room, restraining Ana's view for anything in front or behind of her. Fight or flight drove in, she couldn't stiffen up –– not now, not with the smoke growing more oppressive with every moment she waited. In her dread, Ana flung herself onto the ground, with no moment to consider or reflect on the injuries that she had just given herself. "Smoke always rises", she simply recited, elbows dragging her body over the spot in the exploration of the door that was someplace in the room.
It took Ana no more than a minute to ascertain the door, but she was cognizant that time was promptly running out. Only one thing horrified Ana more than fire, and that was losing. Embarrassingly, Ana had only succeeded to find the exit because she headbutted it crawling across the ground. A muffled "ouch" left her parted lips, as she rose to her tired feet to examine the handle with the back of her fist. Once satisfied that she could proceed, the open door exposed another room, packed with identical smoke, reducing Ana's view and restricting her surroundings. Once again, Ana began to pass through the classroom, only this time she grounded herself with added tenderness and grace, as opposed to hurling herself down, causing more damage to her now bruised frame. The adrenaline rush from both compartments, accompanied by the pain she was now feeling in her abdomen, gave Ana the extra boost of energy that she required to complete the course. Long limbs supported her through the second room, and she ended it inside the two-minute time frame, checking the doorknob with the back of her hand –– and it was frozen, providing her to exit.
Departing both rooms with slow breaths, Ana plastered a polite smile onto her lips. The smile was partially fabricated; yes, she was genuinely pleased with herself, feeling gratified that she had succeeded to finish the course. But the smile was in large to cover the pain that she was feeling on her form. Rather than clinging around, Ana strayed from the Courtyard, announcing her goodbyes to both Professors and retreating to the common room to assess the damage she had caused to herself.

Permission given godmod Henry Knight by the writer
Henry Knight, one of Rose's good friends, had joined Rose at the Gryffindor Table that morning. The two of them had always been close, but between their parents getting engaged to Henry confiding in her that he was a werewolf to all the crap that was going on in their lives, they had grown closer recently. They talked to each other, laughed with each other, and helped each other. Well, Rose had been hesitant to receive any help from Henry, but she accepted it with time. She let him teach her piano, and even accepted a tip for homework once. That might not sound important to some, but it was revolutionary to Rose, because of her issues with trust. It had been hard, but at the same time, it had been so easy. Henry was such a trustworthy person, and Rose found she could trust him.
Her and her soon-to-be stepbrother had been talking at the Gryffindor table. (That was another thing about Henry- he never did seem to want to belong in Slytherin. She doubted it was anything to do with house stereotypes. He had more friends in other houses.) Anyway, they weren't talking about anything important. Just joking around a little bit, talking about generic things that didn't really mean much. Well, the words didn't mean much. But the time spent together meant a lot. Maybe Rose would go sit with Henry sometime.
"Let's go for a walk," Rose suggested. "We should find something to do. It's Saturday, and I'm all caught up with homework, which means I have nothing to do." Henry agreed, and they walked out of the Great Hall together. They were having a peaceful walk accompanied by a casual conversation when Rose saw the fire errand. She stopped walking, her eyes trained on the area that it would be done on. It took a few seconds to figure out what it was exactly.
The redhead hadn't had as many horrible encounters with fire as some had. She had been set on fire in her duels, which had not been an amazing encounter with fire at all. She didn't ever want to be set on fire again. The only other notable encounter with fire had been the Trial. The first trial had been a trial of fire, and Rose hadn't had a completely failed experience with it. She knew that others had been trapped in burning rooms, or been caught on fire in other events. Let's just say Hogwarts was infamous for their negative fire experiences.
What brilliant person had come up with this idea? This was a great idea. Not only were the experiences with fire bad, but sometimes the students' choices made it even worse. If they could be educated about it, then they could learn to avoid it. Rose grabbed Henry's wrist, stopping him. "That is the best idea the staff have had all year," she said. She glanced up to him. "We should participate. We go to school at Hogwarts, we've got to go." Rose practically dragged Henry over to the area where the people were gathered, taking a spot at the back where she could hear and see well enough. Nurse Brumby had been the one to lead this. Ah, of course. Rose knew that he seemed like a smart man. Professor Wade didn't look ecstatic to be there, but he was still helping nonetheless. Rose's respect increased for both men. This is what the staff should have done about all the fire incidents. Set up some education about it. Not asked twelve of their students to participate in a series of trials with the vibes of the Hunger Games. Professor Pendrast had talked about fire in her class, which Rose had admired, but not like Nurse Brumby was. This was a good lesson about fires and how to avoid them. How to avoid feeding them, and how to make them stop.
Then, there were three tests presented. They were pretty much harmless, but were made to think that they weren't. It was training. Rose did not want to opt for the first two at all. They just sounded unpleasant and panicking. The third one interested her, though. It was like solving a puzzle. Under extreme pressure that didn't really matter. It sounded like it could be fun, though. But it was meant to do with two people. Rose turned to Henry, who was still beside her. "I kinda wanna do one of these. The third one, in particular. Will you do it with me?" She had pulled Henry into the lecture. What was the harm in pulling him into the training? "It sounds like fun." She paused. "Extreme. But fun."

Even through he was sorted in the house of slytherin, the lad couldn't be found at the table on most days. Choosing another table to sit at that house more of his friends, typically at the hufflepuff table or gryffindor table but occasionally the ravenclaw and sometimes the slytherin table. Henry didn't have any prejudices about different houses, majority of his friends were just in different houses.
That morning he thought about sitting with his best friend; Logan at the hufflepuff table or actually at the slytherin table with Cash but end up spotting a familiar set of red hair and joining Rose Moon at the gryffindor table. The two were close in terms of friendship and the boy trusted her enough to reveal to her that he was a werewolf but they also would be growing closer in the summer holiday since they would become step siblings after all. Even besides from their parents engagement, Henry did like her as a friend and all and found her to be a good person to be around. Often making him laugh when they studied together or needing a extra boost if encouragement during their dueling practices or laughing as their felines played together.
Although the girl seem to be coming around like him as well since trusting others and revealing his emotions were that easy for Henry to do especially after years of keeping up a barrier between himself and the world really. To appear almost like a statue drained of emotions to others. But that was slowly changing and the boy was becoming more comfortable around us specifically his friends like Logan, Cash, and of course Rose.
The two would chatting about normal things almost, classes and such. Laughing as they did it, he found that he always laughed when he was around the red head for any situation, like teaching her piano or studying with her or just hanging out. Their conversation turned to exam scores and Henry was playfully mentioning how he scored higher than her but yet he was still humble about it since he always offered her homework tips when he could.
When Henry heard her suggestion, a large part of the boy wanted to invite Logan or go hang out with her. To him it seemed like the two were inseparable at times but instead he just nodding a bit with a smile, " sure, I finished my work a few days ago anyway," the teen always had his work done earlier than most.
Henry would follow Rose out to the courtyard and after taking a moment to breath would turn to ask Rose what she wanted to do but found himself distraction by the elaborate setup in the courtyard. Apparently it was there to teach students about fire safety since fire was one thing that always appeared in a Hogwarts event. Henry didn't have that many encounters with fire besides from the Trial where he spent most of it with Katrina Walker questioning what the Trial really was. And there were also duels but he lucky enough dodge any incendios coming for him although he did send one or two toward his opponents.
There was that time in the basements with the rest of his house but it didn't really include fire and then Henry remembered rumours about last year's blossom ball and the incident with fire. Luckily he was smart enough to skip it that year to hang out with friends instead probably what he was going to do that year as well.
Anyway Henry didn't stare at the obstacle courses and setup that long for his eyes lingered onto the nurse. That man gave Henry the creeps.
He always seemed like he was up to something or hiding something but the sight of the older and new Transfiguration professor out some relief in the second year. However there was one thing that the boy knew, he wouldn't be joining that lecture and obstacle courses.
However his plans were a bit messed up when he felt Rose pull his wrist toward the front of the area and heard her words. The boy wasn't looking forward to do it and frankly didn't want to do it as he spoke in a low voice to her, " I wouldn't say best idea since we have magic or did you forget we could magically put out fires," sending a playfully grin at the girl to show his words were a joke before continuing, " anyway I didn't agree to learn about fire safety with you today Rose," the bot would playfully nudge her shoulder with his own before he would be taken back by the voice of the school nurse.
Henry would watch the lecture, still with a feeling of uneasiness about the nurse. He didn't trust that guy, something about him just felt off. At least the Transfiguration professor was there, now that was someone he trusted not to mention someone who taught one of his favorite classes.
Even if Henry wasn't completely on board with being dragged to the place, it wasn't a bad idea in the teen's mind. It definitely was a better idea compared to selecting twelve students at random and getting them to compete in dangerous and unpredictable challenges without even explaining the true nature of the challenges or event. So this wasn't the worse thing at Hogwarts... that was already something Henry participated in at the trial.
Henry listened to both but at mention of three rooms where students could test themselves in situations the teen was ready to leave until he heard Rose's voice. The thirteen year old didn't want to let Rose down or force her to do it by herself so he gave a small goan and brushed a few strands of hair back as he spoke" yeah, I'll do it with you," the bot then playful nudged her shoulder as he playfully spoke" what type of future step older brother would I be if I forced you to go alone," the second year would definitely hold the few months above her... in a sibling way of course.
Henry would approached the entrance to the third room or maze really which lifted Henry's confidence since he was good at mazes and puzzles when he heard Rose's comment. The teen would offer her a smile as he spoke" yeah, sounds like bloody fun," the teen would then gesture toward the entrance as he spoke" after you," and he would follow the girl inside.

Ruka had been under the impression that students needed to be taught about fire safety for a long time. They were taught how to set things aflame, were given a magic stick that could make most anything catch on fire, without regard for the fact that some of these kids thought it was a good idea to pour alcohol onto a fresh burn wound. You absolutely were not supposed to teach someone how to do harm without teaching them how to treat it as well.
So when the errand about fire safety had been announced, Ruka had been quick to sign up himself as well as fellow adventure lover Dealla Prince, who he had no doubt would be delighted to join him. After all, fire had been a vital part of their relationship so far and so he thought it only natural that he would have wanted to do this errand with her.
Fortunately she had agreed, much like he had thought she would, so Ruka was doubly delighted about the errand as he joined the gathering crowd of people to listen to Nurse Brumby's lecture. It was interesting enough, despite the fact that Ruka had been taught most of those things growing up already, but the main event to him were the interactive obstacle courses offered to practice their fire safety skills. All of them seemed interesting, but one in particular gave them the chance to run it in pairs, so Ruka turned his focus on Dealla with a sparkle in his eyes.
"Let's do one," he told her brightly, bouncing on the balls of his feet. He wasn't particularly eager to have so many students possibly watching what he was doing, but the thought of getting to do something that would even just give off the illusion of being dangerous made the excitement in him swell against his lungs and fasten his breath. With determination written across his face he rolled up the sleeves of his cloak as if needing to prepare himself for the trials ahead. "The labyrinth, what do you think?" He grinned and gestured toward where obstacle courses seemed to be generated anew for each student running them. Ruka knew to appreciate that; Even the most exciting things could get dull very quickly if they always remained the same. Familiarity robbed everything of its electrifying spark eventually.
Watching a few people taking the stage to absolve their own obstacle courses, Ruka rubbed his hands together before reaching out to curl his fingers gently around Dee's and lead her a little closer to make sure they weren't going to be overlooked once it would be their turn to put their skills to the test. Both of them were short, so it would have been easy for taller students to cut ahead of them, and Ruka wasn't patient enough to allow for that.
"Ready to put your life into my hands?" he joked, poking his tongue out at Dealla in a playful grimace. Clearly the nurse had not been serious when he had pronounced the obstacle courses to be deadly, but Ruka would be damned if he didn't do his best to pretend like their lives were at stake. Where was the fun in doing something without potential consequences?
Judging by Dealla's own thirst for adventure, Ruka was almost certain that she would be happy to play along.
Waiting for their turn felt almost excruciatingly long despite the fact that there seemed to be only one pair ahead of them. Squeezing Dealla's hand lightly, Ruka rose to his tiptoes as if that would allow him a better view of what was happening across the different rooms. He could make out some more or less familiar faces, but his attention didn't stay on them for long before he turned a bright smile back to Dealla. "Thanks for coming along, by the way," he told her sincerely, still with an air of excitement. "I was really hoping you wouldn't be able to resist the call of fire."

@Ruka Burnett-Tân
Truly, this was probably the most useful errand she'd taken part in during her time at Hogwarts. There had been a couple of crafting errands, some for cooking (or rather eating), she'd taken care of pets and flobberworms. In January, there had been one teaching them how to set fire in a blizzard. And yet, perhaps in the same line of logic that taught them the Fire-Making Spell before the Extinguishing Charm, this was the first time they got any instruction on how to handle fires, especially ones that might be too big to get rid of with one Extinguo.
It hadn't taken Ruka too much convincing to get her here (when did it ever - for things much less sensible than this was? Although granted, sometimes it was possibly easier to convince her because something was less sensible than this was), and she hadn't minded that he'd signed her up without her consent, either. Not like she hadn't done the same things to others before - even when she'd known they wouldn't be too happy about it. Honestly, she was kind of flattered she was the first he'd thought of for this, and pleased he knew her well enough to assume she'd agree to come.
An event about fire safety could also easily be a lot more dry and boring than this one was set up to be. Nurse Brumby and Professor Wade kept the lecture rather short and entertaining, focusing on the important bits - the part about testing the doorknob for heat was new to her and was quickly saved to memory - and then the actual fun part began. Obstacle courses.
She didn't mind the audience, never did. Tended to enjoy it, in fact, and rose to her tiptoes in excitement to watch the first kids enter the different courses. "Hm? Oh, yes!" she agreed to Ruka's suggestion, seeming surprised that it had even been a question that they should do one - or that they'd do the labyrinth together, specifically.
When Ruka took her wrist, Dee let herself be tugged along easily, still on her toes, chin raised, to watch other students go through the courses. She only dropped back down on her whole feet when Ruka addressed her again, and she turned towards him, grinning. "No one I'd feel safer with," she claimed, batting her lashes at him. Not entirely true, to be honest - if she had to pick the one person she'd trust to always have her back, it would probably be Ileen - but close enough. They had grown close at a rapid pace, Ruka and herself. There were few people whose company she enjoyed as much, who managed to surprise her time and time again, they just clicked. She'd never wasted much of a thought on whether that feeling was mutual, was simply confident that this was the case.
The wait had her bouncing on her feet, and at her companion's next words, her smile widened, eyes bright and blue. "Of course, I'd never miss an opportunity to be set on fire by you," she teased. If there was any student she associated with fire over everyone else, it was Ruka - and honestly, it had been more his call she hadn't been able to ignore than that of fire.
And then, finally, it was their turn, the labyrinth forming anew for the two of them, and Dee's anticipation carried her forward, eyes bright with excitement. Her experience with labyrinths was limited - she'd visited a cornfield labyrinth with her parents once, but that was really it - but she'd always thought she had a decent sense of direction. They should be fine.
At the first intersection, Dee stopped, turning her head to look down both directions. Both ways were plain, nondescript, no doors in sight. First choice was truly random. Looking at Ruka, she cocked her head to one side slightly. "Pick one," she requested.

Keen Eye / Lovely Creature
In the Buddy Room with @Henry Knight
I'm leaving it completely up to you who gets "incapacitated."
Rose heard Henry make a sneaky remark about how they could magically put out fires, and shot him a look. Technically, the look had meant to be a glare. But Henry was right, and it had been funny, so the glare only lasted a split second, interrupted by a sideways smirk that she was trying to hold in, perfectly timed with his playful smile in her direction. That let her know that despite his words, he really didn't care that much. Not enough to really not want to be here. She shook her head in mock disappointment. "Oh, Henry. You always want to rely on magic." It wasn't really his fault, after all. He had grown up with a magic household. He loved magic. He was brilliant at magic. It might not have come up that he might not always have magic at hand to use. "What if you loose your wand? What if the fire is charmed against the Extinguishing Charm? Then you'll have to use that big brain of yours." Magic wasn't always the solution, and it wasn't always an option. Rose's mother had stressed that in their family. Rose and her siblings had learned not to call on their mother to use magic when it was something they could figure out themselves. Magic was easier, but their mother refused to use it sometimes to force them to figure out their own problems instead of turning to magic all the time. Maybe Henry's dad hadn't done that.
The boy seemed to reluctantly accept her suggestion. He didn't seem to excited about it, but he wanted to do it for her. Rose appreciated that. It was all ruined by his playful comment, including that he was older than her. This time, she was able to keep her glare shot in his direction, but she hoped that he would know it was all in a joking manner. She just nudged him with her shoulder back, and then said, "Future step brothers being older doesn't mean they're more mature."
Rose walked into the maze, fairly sure Henry was following her from behind. "Do you know any special maze techniques?" she asked him, starting to walk at a steady pace. "I don't think we should split up, things always seem to go bad in stories when they split up. Even if we cover more ground, then if we get in trouble, things won't go very well." Especially in mazes. If you went in a maze and split up, your chance of finding the exit increased, but your chances of survival plummeted. Whatever happened, Rose wanted her and Henry to do it together. This was, after all, meant to do with two people.
They wandered around the maze, trying to not come back in the same places they had been, but everything looked really similar to Rose. They eventually came to an agreement to take turns choosing which way to go at every fork. Between the two of them, their guts had to lead them at least somewhere, and they couldn't be stuck in here forever. You could only kinda tell your position by looking up into the sky, but Rose wasn't excellent with directions either. They seemed to be making okay progress, actually.
She eventually got into the rhythm of the maze, and spied a door. She almost walked right past it- it was hiding on the side of a dead end, and she stopped, convinced that they had done it. "Henry, I think- that's the door to the exit! I think we did it!" She walked over to the door, and then stopped. There was something funny about this door. It smelled like... smoke. That couldn't be right. They were supposed to be escaping smoke and stuff like that. Rose remembered what the Nurse had said, and reached out her hand to hover over the doorknob. She could feel the heat radiating off of the doorknob. "Dang it," she murmured. They had been close. Rose had felt the rush of victory, only to realize they couldn't go in that room. They technically could, but it was not a good idea. She turned to Henry. "Sorry, I got excited. But the doorknob is hot, and you can probably smell the smoke better than I can." Henry, with his werewolf senses, could probably smell the smoke way before she had. He probably knew that the door was full of smoke before Rose had figured it out. "I guess we keep going, then?"
They walked for only a little bit longer before Rose heard the announcement telling them that one of them was incapacitated. The redhead bit her lip. Incapacitation would bring all sorts of trouble. For one, they had to get out of this together. That meant the person who wasn't "dead weight" would have to carry the other through the maze, probably dragging them behind them. But Rose didn't know if they had any cloth except for the clothes they were wearing. She guessed that they could use one of their jackets on top of their clothes, or just drag them by their feet, though both didn't sound entirely uncomfortable.
But which one of them would it be?

"we do go to a school of magic after all," Henry replied as a joke to Rose. He didn't always rely on magic, well technically during holidays or before arriving at Hogwarts the boy was forced to do everything without magic given his father was never around and older brother was at Hogwarts so now at teen felt more determined to learn every inch of magic he could and actually use it.
"Wandless magic and the Summoning charm," Henry replied giving a small smirk to the red head before continuing in a playful manner, " you'll never win in a debate against me Rosie," the teen was also still looking for a nickname for the girl.
The teen would stand besides her, preparing himself to enter the maze and possibly face embarrassment in from of others again when he heard the red heads remark. Usually the boy wouldn't hold something as childish as one's age above another even if it was for joking purposes but that moment felt different as he brushed a few strands of hair back and playfully replied" your right Rose, really but I'm pretty sure I'm more mature."
Smiling at the red head, letting her enter first before following her into the maze and casting his eyes around their path. As the teen walked with the gryffindor, he didn't see or smell anything unusual at first. It seemed like a normal or as normal as one could get currently maze.
"Special maze techniques? Is that your way to ask if my fury problem could help us," Henry replied with a small nudge to the red head's shoulder before grinning toward her and continuing" only joking but definitely not splitting up. In stories when the characters splits up that's when their attack or killed," following Rose and still now seeing any doors but also wondering if his words didn't help with comforting his friend he while continued" probably won't happen to us but the nurse did create it for buddies so best bet is to stay together."
The teen fell silent as he started to look for the exit, his eyes looking for any slight difference with each turn. Even through each path looked the same and it may appear that they could be going in circles, Henry knew they weren't and started to look for even the smallest signs that each path was different from the last.
Soon the two had come to a agreement of sorts with choosing which way to go at forks. Henry would try to choose the path that directed north or would eye the ground to try to see which was more or less traveled by others. The maze wasn't that bad as Henry first thought and after a while he sort of enjoyed going through the maze with Rose, debating on which turn to choose when they reach a fork, racing ahead of each other sometimes, and neither playfully tripping or making a joke.
Eventually the maze wasn't that much a challenge that he originally imagined and they finally spotted a door as well. Henry smiled toward Rose and raced after her toward the door only stopping midway when a unusual smell hit his nose, it was awful and almost made it difficult to breath as he looked up and shouted " Rose wait!" Unfortunately the teen was a bit too late when he heard her cry and soon a apology of sorts.
The second year would run the rest of the way to come up next to her before speaking" are you alright?" Naturally, Henry blamed himself for it figuring he should have warned her sooner as he spoke" that's why I stopped, I smelled the smoke and I'm sorry I should have warned you sooner,"
Henry would nod turning his eyes back to the path as he agreed, " yeah I guess," the teen would soon fall back into a rhyme again. However he was now wondering and noticeably panicking about who would be choosen to become incapacitated. That would only make things more difficult for them and even add more problems for the two.
Henry would eye his friend and silently worry to himself about the announcement that would be there soon. He started to worry that if Rose was choosen to become incapacitated then that would add pressure onto him to get them out and figure out a way to carry her out but if he was choosen then he wouldn't be able to aid or help her anymore and would basically be useless. The teen was started to think that this event wasn't good on his anxiety.
They would reach a fork and the teen would look at both, before up at sky noticing the left was pointing north. He then looked at the ground which wasn't that must help as he originally thought before eyeing Rose and asking" which way?" Eyeing both directions and trying not to imagine the announcement as he spoke" the left is directed north and looks to be going inward while the right is directed east I think," still the teen allowed Rose to choose which way they should go when the dreaded announcement flooded his ears.
"Room Three! Yer halfway done guys! But Mister Knight is now incapacitated!"
Henry knew it was done either with the amplifying charm or by shouting so it was no use looking anywhere specific but the dread that filled up within the teen was currently present even if it was unnoticeable.
He would brush a few strands of hair back and look toward Rose as he spoke" alright so what do we do now?" Then teen was uncertain how he should react, granted he was choosen to act incapacitated but what exactly did that mean. Did he have to lau down or just not speak? Could he no longer help Rose with the maze or did she need to carry him out?
"Any idea with what I should do?" The boy asked wondering how Rose was going to find the correct door and carry him out since he was taller then her and was also almost hoping that she would get chosen just because it wouldn't complicated things that much.
Henry didn't know if the weird and prehaps creepy nurse could see them so he would eye around the maze before letting out a, "uh, and giving a small smile to Rose as he kneeled down and sort of awkwardly but dramatically and playfully spoke" ah! Help! The smoke is suffocating me! Darkness is closing in!"
The teen would rather awkwardly but also playfully and even dramatically kneel on the ground before laying onto his back and saying" I fainted! I'm incapacitated!"
Laughing a bit still feeling awkward as he remained on the ground before speaking" was that correct?" Henry could feel his anxiety crawl up his spine as he spoke" you can do this Rose, alright. Take a breath because you can do this, I believe in you."
