Jesus, was it cold. Although, that was the point, wasn't it? The small Ravenclaw had her large, home knitted scarf up to her nose, a hat that was a bit too big as well covering half of her head. Pretty much all of what she was wearing was too big, her Granny had knitted most of it for her to "grow into". Turns out the growing thing wasn't something Delilah was too good at. Standing at the rough height of "short", she really wasn't all that intimidating. You would've thought, being from the highlands, that she was used to the cold, but this was more than cold, this was colder than she had ever imagined. She wasn't even sure why she even took this challenge anyway, but immediately coming out of the castle and seeing all of the snow her nose and ears were burning from the freezing temperature.

As soon as she had looked out on the slate of snow, she dreaded this challenge. Sure she could cast incendio, or even incendio duo, but was it even going to light in this weather? She had her wand in the pocket of her oversized jacket but she wasn't even sure she could use it in this weather. When she had signed up for this, she had said that she wanted to be in a group, but she didnt really know anybody else who wanted to do it with her. So hopefully she could find a group while she attempted to light a fire. First port of call, get something to light on fire!

Barely a second after the young Slytherin had stepped outside the relative warmth of the castle walls, she felt the bitter air bite her cheeks. Her pale skin becoming uncharacteristically flushed as she wrapped her arms tightly around herself. Sarah loved the cold, least not for the memories it always brought of her brother and how they’d once spent every second of winter outside in the manor grounds throwing snowballs or hiding from their parents or just laughing for the hell of it. But along with the fond memories she carried of her brother’s beaming smile and her mother’s warm arms which she’d always wrap so tightly around the small girl when the siblings returned to the manor, came the dull ache of loss which sank like a pit in her stomach.

She missed them terribly, every year seeming harder than the last as the years went on and the memories started to fade and morph and grow ever more distant. Perhaps that was why she’d been so determined to throw herself into everything she could this holiday season. Anything to distract her from the thoughts which weighed on her every time she had a moment alone. She’d signed up for this before she’d even fully realised what exactly she was signing up for - without a group to do it with or a plan on how exactly she’d do it. Still, she was glad for the distraction as unhealthy she knew it was to push emotions and bottle them up.

Walking further out into the snow-covered courtyard, eyes darting between small groups of students, icy looking stones, and the seemingly cloudless sky, she was thankful for the beanie and coat her aunt had bought her the year prior. “Enchanted to keep you warm,” Helena had told her with a smile which told the girl she knew of her regular outdoor adventures. The thought of her aunt - the only living relative she was actually fond of - caused her lips to quirk upwards, as her eyes landed on an older girl who seemed to be alone. She shook away the lingering thoughts of her lost family and made her way over, bright hair practically glowing in contrast to the white surroundings. “Hi, mind if I join you?” She asked the girl when she was close enough, right hand idly fingering the wand which was just within her pocket.
