An Elemental War
@Katie Palsorette
Generally, Lea wasn't one for company. She kept to herself, or to the people she knew rather than branching out to meet any person who happened to sit next to her. However, when it came to errands, the girl was more than ready to ask for assistance. It was a reasonable explanation for why meeting another person would be necessary, not to mention important for her survival within these errands. The hufflepuff seemed to do well with a wand, but anything physical had a likely chance of failing. She just wasn't strong.
Where this other person that she had invited stood on the spectrum of strength vs. magic was unknown. They were a stranger, after all, only noting that they were in some of the same classes. Perhaps this would be the chance to have a conversation where her stuttering seemed only out of cold rather than of embarrassment and social confusion.
Start a fire- it sounded easy enough. She knew the fire-making spell, which was nice. The problem was in casting it and in keeping the flame alive for some time. That there was significantly more difficult in the wind and snow. But the first year would try, just to make sure the solution wasn't right in front of their noses.
"I- incendio." The first attempt just sputtered out, sparks falling onto the wand and her hand, but none of them caught. For safety, the girl dunked her hand and wand into the snow before bringing herself back up to cast the spell again. "Incendio," the second one seemed much better, actually managing to set the ground aflame, before dissipating as quickly as it came. Lea would finally turn towards the kind-of-stranger, eyes glancing to the side.
"I- I think we n-need to... b-build a, uh, covering. So-so that the wind d-oesn't get rid of- the-the flame." The hufflepuff finally made eye contact, curious as to how the other would react. It lasted only a moment, though, before the girl ducked her head, looking around to find something to block the wind.

Katie was cold. She could understand the usefulness of this errand readily, she to get coldness despite being heavily bundled up in a long sleeves short, jeans, a big fluffy coat that went down to just below her waist, and warm, winter boots. She also was wearing a scarf and a winter hat that she'd knitted for herself.
Needless to say, she was still cold. She wondered how a winter could get so cold. Our seemed like a mean thing for the gods to do. She sighed, content that she'd dedicated this time to what she had rather than reminiscing on warmer times and hot herbal tea. She would have fun with this errand, even if it was quite cold being the winter and all.
"Hey!" Katie said, in a friendly, yet societally obligatory greeting. Katie then paused and thought for a moment in how exactly she wanted to complete their task. Katie had not mastered Incendio yet and she didn't fully trust herself yet enough t use it and not accidentally burn the school siren, but she had a few matches that she received as a gift from an elderly muggle woman, when she was cold and walking to Platform 9 3/4 when heading back to school. "Here, how about we try these matches?" Katie suggested, with a smile. "Yeah, covering it would probably be smart; try and shield the flames from the wind!" Katie said in agreement, while unzipping her big, fluffy coat around to better shield and protect their soon to be for from the harsh winter winds it currently faced.Word Count: 264/600

Upon meeting this other person, and the observations they made, Lea had decided that they were smart- they had brought matches and were using their coat to shield a place to start a fire.
"Oooh, nice," was all the hufflepuff could say. She had only brought marshmallows... and graham crackers and chocolate. The errand had said bring marshmallows, and s'mores sounded really good. Plus, assuming this all worked, they would have fire! Offering one finger in the sign of 'one moment please', the girl would scurry off, trying to find any branches or leaves that had just fallen. It didn't seem like a good idea to just take it from the tree, but anything that had fallen off was okay.
She came back with an assortment of twigs, branches, and leaves, brushing off any snow that had fallen onto them. It would be alright, right? The snow around would probably stop anything else from catching on fire, and even if it did spread, there was teacher supervision. It would be fine... The girl placed the branches down, trying to remember if she had ever done something like this before. Nothing came to mind, but she knew the leaves would go up into flames faster than everything else. Best to probably place it in the middle so that it doesn't spread out.
Lea would also unzip her jacket, shifting so that she could use her back as a shield against the wind. It seemed to do alright in protecting her as well, but the girl was certainly colder than she had been moments before.
Brown eyes would glance up at her partner, the one that had offered the matches. "W-want to start it?" After all, if the matches didn't work, the hufflepuff could cast incendio. But at the moment, it seemed more important to try the matches while Lea looked through her pockets to get the s'mores ingredients.

Katie took out her matches and attempted to light them, but they only lasted a second or two before they went out in a small puff of smoke after a brief flash of light and fire or didn't even light at all. As this rate, their fire would have to start of 'natural causes'. "Bloody hell!" Katie cursed after her ninth match failed to light. She was running out of matches and they were nowhere closer to achieving their goal. At least she still had lots of matches. The box had two hundred matches to be exact and she'd only used nine of them, so they still had plenty of chances to get it right. That didn't make her any less frustrated though.
Katie groaned after to light a few more matches. She felt like she was running out of time or under ingrown pressure or something. She was so mad adj she threw the box and watched as the rest of the matches spewed out. She cringed. In retrospect, that was not one of Katie's brightest ideas. What were they going to do now? She looked up at her partner and said, "Err, I'm sorry, um I probably shouldn't have done that, " looking very embarrassed a her outburst and apologetic for losing their chance at lighting the fire.Word Count: 264/600 (previous) + 214/600 (this) = 478/600 (total)

Lea was a bit surprised by the outburst. It was unfortunate that the matches didn't seem to be working, sparking a flame, but it also didn't make sense to be so angry. They had other options to work with, plus of course the snow and wind was making it hard to start a fire. The girl would blink a few times as the matches coated and fell into the snow. They'd probably have to pick all that up now. A small shrug was offered, shifting from her crouched position to start moving towards where she saw some of the matches.
"It- it's alright." She'd pick up as many matches as she could, placing them back in the box. They would probably need to dry off later- let the snow melt and water evaporate- but for now that would have to do. "We- we can get the others later." The box with a few of the matches would be offered back to the student.
"I- I'm gonna cast a-a fire. Then... then we can try and-and keep it aflame." It made sense to explain her reasoning and what she wanted the other to do- after all, they couldn't read minds. At least, she didn't think they could. Getting out her wand, the girl would move her wand in a little flame motion, commanding, "Incendio."

Katie was relieved at Lee's help with the for starring spell: incendio. It had been Perry irrational for her to get so angry about the matches not spelling, and she felt bad about her outburst.
"Thanks," Katie said, gratefully, with sincere appreciation shining in get eyes. The spell had worked like a charm (pun intended), and the it fire slight in a beautiful flaming ball if fury, ready to head of in a warpath it something. Katie sighed I relaxation and content, while hovering her hands just above their fire, in order to be able to use some of the fire's warmth for heating herself up, since Katie was positively freezing from the frigid, ice cold weather, Scotland had during winter. Katie smiled over at Lea. She wondered what they should do now that they'd lit their fire in ask it's flaming warmth and brightness. We're they to go back inside? Know some spell top put the for our? Go find and/or call a professor over? So many unanswered questions swirled in Katie's head. Katie certainly could over think things though, so she decided I a simple, short and sweet question.
"So what now?" Katie asked. She wasn't exactly sure what they were supposed to do now that they'd finished their task. "I mean, I suppose we could talk, Katie added, " share stories of something." Katie clarified, hopeful that the girl would take her up on her offer to grrr to know each other better.

"N-no worries." It was something to focus on in this cold, trying not to think of how her hands felt frozen and how the girl just wanted to curl up with some hot chocolate. With a blanket, by a fire not surrounded by snow. The girl would nestle further into her coat, trying to keep the flame up.
"Uh..." At home Lea could talk for quite some time about the strangest of things with her friends, swinging around the bars at the playground. And yet, at Hogwarts so far, that wasn't the case. In fact, she was just about the opposite here- awkward and insecure in this still new environment.
"S-sure. I-uh- duelled? A-and found out that my cousin also i-is a wix." Her mind went blank, blinking a few times before turning back to the other. A small shrug, all stories lost to the frosty winds. "Wh-what about you?" It seemed this other student could actually talk to others without much difficulty. Maybe that would prove to have more stories as well- it's hard to make stories when alone or unwilling to talk to most others.
"Want t-to move in-inside? I think we-we can now." Stories around hot chocolate sounded amazing in her mind. And warm, the current craving.
OOC: I'm not a month late- at all. Sorry about that, should be returning to normal activity soon?
