When May woke up and had some breakfast, it was announced that there was going to be an errand organized by the divination professor. As usual, May signed up for it, not even knowing what it was about and went to the billboard that morning and realized that it was an errand that involved snow- and cold. Especially cold. May preferred to stay in the great hall, or in the common room by the cozy fire eating cookies and milk or something warm to keep her from the cold. But today she would experience something completely different. Something arctic.
She went up to the common room in the morning and was warmly greeted by her new pet, her arctic owl named Hiems. It hooted happily when she barged into her dormitory, but May didn't stop to greet her owl warmly. She went to her closet and took out her warmest coat and bonnet and runned out of the common room at once.
She got out of the castle and went to the courtyard, which was transformed from top to bottom: the snow was everywhere. May took a deep breath and marched forward, her very useful wand in her hand. She looked around and saw a lot of students around the event, and tried to see a familiar face but somehow, she couldnt see any. Chooseing to approach a random person, she poked a girl [ @Aspen Summers] and said, "Are you doing the...um, the errand?" May said, trying to sound pleasant. "Because i am, so...maybe we could be partners?"
But they needed someone else to do partnership. Looking around again, she poked another girl [ @Jess Malters] and said, "hey- this girl and i are doing this errand togheter. Want to join us? we need someone else..." she gave her a hopeful smile and prepared her wand to start casting incendio.

When Jess had heard about some fire-making challenge going on in the courtyard, she had expected some kind of tent or camp set-up, with maybe a teensy bit of snow gathered around on the ground to make it just a bit more of a challenge. What she hadn't expected, however, was the most snow she had probably ever seen in her life piled all over the courtyard, paired with heaps of even more snow and some saplings spaced seemingly randomly around the space, and winds that made her nose feel as if it would be blown off her face at any moment. Had Jess known who Voldemort was and what he looked like, she would have been genuinely scared that the events of the evening would leave her looking like that, too.
At least Jess had brought a warm hat and scarf, though, and she wrapped it around her face tightly now to at least block off some of the cold. Thankfully, it was somewhat effective. Only when she flipped on her hood and looked around, though, did Jess realize that she had forgotten to expect yet another thing for that day. She had thought, initially, that this event was meant to be completed solo, so she hadn't planned out anyone to actually go with. Now, though, a bit of a panicky feeling started to rise up in her stomach as she looked around the courtyard and realized it was filled with groups- groups of friends, meant to complete the errand together. Oh no.
Half-ready to turn around and tread back to the castle for lack of a team to make a fire with, Jess suddenly felt a slight pressure on her shoulder and turned to see a girl she recognized as a fellow Hufflepuff smiling at her. "Oh, um, hi." Jess's face split into a smile of her own to match the other girl's. "Yeah, sure, I'd love to. I'm Jess, what's your name?"

Aspen was a bit nervous if she is being 100% honest. An errand centered around fire, it in a magical blizzard, well it seems like a recipe for disaster. Even still, the lure of something new to do, maybe new friendships, and of course, rewards, won out in the mental war. Dressed in an all-white, warm outfit with gloves, she will not repeat the mistakes from her last errand, Aspen heads out into the courtyard where a massive gust of wind and snow greet the first-year girl. She winces as another girl, a second-year, walks up to her and asks if they would like to work together.
Aspen barely has a chance to respond with a "sure" before the girl skips off to another student, a first-year, and asks if she would like to join. So now, Aspen has a team. The other first-year introduces herself as Jess and smiles at Aspen who responds with a matching facial expression. "I'm Aspen!" she then looks over to the older girl, directing this next question at her, "So do you have any idea how we should do this? I know there is a fire spell but I don't know it yet. So..." Aspen leaves the rest of her statement hanging in the air, that she doesn't think she is helpful, that she knows she won't be.

As she heard the first girl agree warmly, May immediately went to someone else, thought random, the girl that was right behind her agreed to join as well. Smiling, May began to feel more confident that this errand was going to be acomplished, for she hadn't felt like this before the decision was taken to join it. No, May felt like this was going to be a especially cold winter day at Hogwarts, and she wanted to make the most of it.
"So," she said, her gloved hands resting on her hips in a desicion-taking position. The air was so cold that little puffs of vapor came out of her mouth each time that she took deep, steady breaths to keep out of the chilly air. ", first things first. Do any of you know the spell incendio?"
Then, May realized that only one [Jess] of them knew this spell, for they were first years. She took a deep sigh of frustration and took out her wand. "Well, I suppose that I still need help with collecting wood or something to keep the fire going. You could help me, I guess." she said to the girl with black hair, trying to sound patient and the kind of girl that could make the best of a situation like that. But she wasn't. May was pretty sure that in the next two minutes, she would be yelling at them both poor first years till they frighten themselves to stop liking her in a way.
"I- I think we should introduce ourselves. You know, to make it more formal~" she shook her head, and told them that her name was May Moonstar, and that she was a Hufflepuff second year. She managed to smile again, and entered the blizzard with both her new partners.

Aspen winced as the pretty, older girl sighed in frustration after learning that Aspen does not know the fire-making spell. A puff of air exits the first year's mouth as she takes a deep breath, trying to stay warm and centered. The pretty, older girl sends Aspen away to go collect wood, and she does, though a bit disappointed that this errand is not as fun as she initially thought it would be.
Her brown boots leave imprints in the snow as the white-clad girl walks around, looking around for wood. She finds quite a few sticks, but most of them are moist which does not make for a good fire starter. Aspen pauses for a moment to breathe on her cold hands before continuing her search. She heads closer to the forest- not too close of course, and finds some big, dry sticks. Smiling in satisfaction, Aspen bundles them up in her arms before trekking back over to where May and Jess are waiting.
Upon arriving at the group, Aspen kneels down onto the snow and lays the sticks out in a checkerboard pattern, a way she learned from her dad. In-between each layer, she puts down some dry leaves. When it is completed, she dusts off her hands and jacket and looks up at the other girls, proud to have proven May wrong and show that she can be helpful. "Is this good?"

Jess's smile only grew as another girl, the third member to the impromptu team, returned her enthusiasm and introduced herself. She wasn't sure, but Jess thought that Aspen might also be a Hufflepuff too. Great, then. A team of puffs!
The other girl, the blonde one's, stance and question stirred some unease in the young Hufflepuff's stomach, though. It wasn't that she didn't appreciate this girl's eagerness to lead, no, but Jess tended to like to do things her way and it seemed that with this particular teammate, her actions in this errand might not necessarily be left completely up to her. Whatever. She would have a good time anyways. Besides, multiple people could lead at once, right? And the girl was just trying to help and stay organized in any case, so it was a positive, not a problem.
"Yeah, I do," she said, fighting against the lump in her throat that had formed at the prospect of using the fire-making spell. The Costume Party had, admittedly, happened several months ago, but the memory of the fire eating at the decorative haystacks in the room was as fresh in Jess's mind as if she had seen it yesterday. It was less about the actual fire, though, and more about her inability then to do anything to stop it. That feeling started to rise up in her again now, but, reminding herself of the countless hours she had spent practicing Extinguo after the events of that day, the Hufflepuff pushed them back down. She knew the spell perfectly now, so there was no reason to fear a bit of fire, especially since that fire, if lit, would only be present in an open area, surrounded by snow, and ready to be snuffed out by a group of eager wizards who certainly also knew the possible dangers that the small flame could pose.
The blonde girl's deep, infuriated-sounding sigh brought the girl back to the present, however, and she felt a brief pang of sympathy for Aspen and the judgement she could no doubt feel coming her way from the other Hufflepuff. Ah, there it was. So, then, Jess had been correct before. The blonde girl not only wanted to lead, but she saw herself as the natural head of the group, thinking that Jess and Aspen were just there to "help her."
She cocked an eyebrow slightly at the girl's next words. Hadn't they already introduced themselves? "Um, I'm Jess. I'm a Hufflepuff too, though this is my first year here." Jess stayed behind, watching, as Aspen made her way to find some sticks, then observed with curiosity as she arranged the twigs and leaves she had found in a pattern similar to cross-hatching. Interesting. "Would it be alright with you guys if I build up a triangle thing on top of that? Like- you know what I mean, right? Like in a cone shape, with a little space left out so we can light what Aspen built in the center." She grinned at the black-haired girl's question, shooting her a reassuring grin. "Yeah, it's great. I just used to make small campfires with my cousin with the cone shape I told you about, so I think it might be worth it to add that on top, too. May, you good with that?"

As the snow and wind continue to pick up around the girls, Aspen sends Jess a grateful look as she reassures her. The older girl is intimidating, that is for sure, and having someone who seems to be on her side is nice. "That sounds good, getting a fire going is our goal so combining magic and normal ways should work."
Aspen reaches for the last of the pile of sticks and begins to fasten the cone shape that Jess referred to. If May makes some comment, it is ignored as Aspen puts one hundred percent focus on building a cone out of sticks.
Puffs of white air come out of Aspen's mouth as she works to catch her breath in the icy cold land that is the Hogwarts Courtyard. She hears the cheers of a group of students to her right as they get a fire going. The Hufflepuff first year winces as they run over to grab some hot cocoa and warm-up, a luxury that she is not yet rewarded.
Rubbing her hands together, Aspen stands up. "I think we are ready to light the fire. What do you think?" Aspen looks pointedly over to Jess and not to May, as the older girl is more likely to make some snarky comment.
