The Fellowship
Bex walked out of the castle into the courtyard, and took a breathe of fresh air. It was fall, so the air was crisp and the leaves were changing. The courtyard was peaceful right now, which was surprising for a Sunday afternoon, but Bex smiled. The Gryffindor common room had been an absolute nightmare, she thought that literally all of the Gryffindors were in there and none of them wanted to be quiet. With all of the noise around them, each person decided to shout to make their voice heard and the common room became louder.
When Bex could no longer concentrate on the book in front of her because of the noisiness, she put on her jacket and walked out. She was glad for the peacefulness of the courtyard, and started walking towards her favorite spot to read. Before coming to Hogwarts her parents "made" her watch the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, which she pretended to hate. The movies fascinated her though, and a few days after they finished the movies she snuck down to the bookshelf in her living room and grabbed all of the Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
She had just started The Fellowship Of The Ring, and was slightly disappointed by it so far. She didn't know if it was the loud surroundings, her own reading level, or the author that made it kind of difficult to concentrate on the book. She was barely three chapters in, and had been reading it for almost a month. Pledging that she would finish this book before Christmas, she reached her favorite spot, and a boy around her age was already there reading a book. It was a good spot, so Bex couldn't be surprised that someone else liked to go there for a bit of reading.
Bex started to turn around and find a different spot, but then she noticed he was reading The Fellowship Of The Ring, too. He was about halfway through the book, which made her kind of jealous. It probably was her own reading level holding her back. She debated with herself, but she needed to know if the book was harder to read or if it was her.
Hi, sorry to bother you, but we're reading the same book. Bex held up her own copy with a laugh. I watched the movies with my parents over the summer, and wanted to read the books. But I'm finding it fairly difficult to understand. Is it just me, or is the book a bit difficult to read?
Bex smiled at the boy, and hoped she didn't talk too much.

Adohiro was sitting quietly in one of the courtyard benches reading Lord Of The Rings book. He did like a few muggle literature, they were in par with wizard's books he would admit. Sci-fi or fantasy books weren't his most favorite books in the entire world, but he didn't mind them. He liked autobiography books or nonfiction books such as the writings of Osamu Dazai and his absurd romanticism books. They were certainly philosophical but were extremely dark and twisted. It was quite crazy about the kind of life the man led in which the man eventually ended his own life. He was about twenty chapters into the Lord Of The Rings book and had made through some of the rather tedious parts of the books. The long descriptions he viewed as rather boring and uncanny, it wasn't his favorite. However, his thoughts would be interrupted by a girl who seemed to read the exact same book. However, it appeared she was a few chapters behind.
"Oh yes, I am reading Lord Of The Rings. I actually find the descriptions of the scene rather dull and boring. There is no excitement. I'm in chapter twenty one right now." The dark haired boy told the girl. "How about you?"

Bex was extremely relieved that the boy thought so too, and shot him a small smile. It was dull, and very different from the movies. I'm on chapter seven, but it's taken me months to even get that far. It is really dull. I thought the movies were kinda of dull to start too, but I really enjoyed them after a bit. I just don't know if I'll be able to finish the book, which I have never done before. I mean, I finished a biography about Grover Cleveland who was the absolute dullest United States president for a school project, so I should be able to finish this book too.
Bex was aware that she was talking a lot, but this book was really getting under her skin. She also just talked a lot in general, once someone said something back. But this boy probably wanted her to leave him alone so he could read his book in silence, which was her intention when she first came outside. Well, since she had already ranted to this stranger she might as well introduce herself.
I don't mean that though, I'll end up finishing the book before giving up. Sorry to just rant about it. I'm Bex, by the way.

He gave a nod, he hadn't personally watched any of the movies yet. His older brother recommended he should read the book to broaden his genres of books he would read so he could have more to talk about. According to his brother, he doubted anyone would know a single Japanese, Chinese, or Korean literature book besides manga books. "I haven't seen any of the films at all. I've always read the books first before watching the movie. I read Moby Dick and watched the movie after. I regret wasting time on both of them." He would explain to the unknown girl. However she soon introduced herself as Bex, it sounded a bit like an odd name. Like the word for hexes except it started with a B. "I am Adohiro Moira. My names peace within chaos before you ask me what it means. I've gotten too many questions about my name so I always make sure to tell everyone." He said. "What sort of name is Bex?" He would ask the girl in a very polite manner. He sure hoped it did not sound rude or condescending or anything bad. It seemed like too much of a direct question.

Bex listened to the boy introduce himself and thought his name was super cool. She wondered what part of Asia he was from. She wondered if it would be rude to ask him.
That’s a super cool name, and it’s awesome that it means something. My dad named me after his sister, even though they’re not close at all. Her name is Rebecca, but she absolutely hated how formal it sounded. So she always went by a nickname, most of the time Becca but she didn’t feel like that fit her either. When she turned 18 she left her family for good, and had all these cool adventures I’d imagine. Along the way, one of her new friends gave her the nickname Bex, and she finally found one that fit. At least that’s what she told me the only time I’ve met her. Apparently he felt guilty about something and hoped naming me after her would bring her closer to him. She’s the only person from my dad’s family that I’ve met, but she’s super cool and has blue hair and an eyebrow piercing.
Bex stopped talking about her aunt because she was sure it was super boring to anyone else. She always wondered what happened in her dad’s family.
Anyways she’s the reason I have pink in my hair, because I realized how cool it was from her hair. I’m from the United States, how about you?

Adohiro would listen to the tale of how she was named. It seemed a bit of a dull but touching story. However, Adohiro was skilled at looking interested in her story so he would nod and look like he was thinking about her story. Internally thinking, he was thinking of how boring the story it was. Sure it was touching for someone who had a close bond with their siblings or had parents, but none of that touched Adohiro. Sure, his older brother who raised him was kind, but there was sort of an invisible distance between the two. "That's very nice. I don't have any sisters and I only have one older brother. He's boring and strict and stuffy." Adohiro would tell her smiling. He would hear about her pink hair, it was a bit strange but he would smile to hide his true internal thoughts. "Dyed hair is common in South Korea where I lived for a few years. You'll see even green or blue colored hair. It's a bit crazy." He would tell her. "Oh and I am half Korean and half Japanese. I lived in both of the countries when I was young and moved back and forth between the two."

Bex listened to Adohiro talk, and was amazed that a country had a lot of unnatural colored hair. South Korea sounds cool. My parents aren't very fascinated with Asian history, so I don't think I'll visit any Asian country before I'm allowed to go on my own adventures. But I think it's cool that you were raised in two different cultures that are your heritage.
Bex wasn't quite sure what to say next. She wasn't very good with keeping conversations going, and she still wasn't entirely sure the boy wanted to talk to her. He seemed quiet, which Bex respected. She is typically quiet unless she felt very passionate about something. Deciding to try and talk a little more, she said,
What do you typically like to read, then? My favorite is mythology, but I usually like fanstay too. Sometimes Sci-Fi if the premise isn't too wild. I like memoirs too, if the person was cool.
She hoped Adohiro didn't think she was too much of a geek, but a lot of people liked to read. However, most seemed more fascinated with the sports going on. Bex still didn't understand Quidditch and refused to even try to play. Heights were not her thing. And her thoughts had totally got off track once again. Hopefully Adohiro didn't notice.

I read various books but I don't really have a favorite author or book." He would tell her and would look away. "I do like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean literature too but also English books." He would tell the girl. He was a bit unsure if she liked those books. It sure didn't seem like she would be the type especially since it seemed like her parents didn't like Asian culture. "Why don't your parents not like Asian culture? Maybe they don't understand it well so they don't like it?" He hadn't ever met someone who hated Asians or didn't like the culture, it seemed a tad bit strange n the least. He felt it was confusing and a bit hurt ful in the least so he was worried. However, this girl didn't seem like it at all though.

Bex listened to Adohiro list off all of the things he liked to read and was intimated by the huge list. She had never heard of Osamu Dazai, but maybe she would try to find something in the library.
Oh cool, I never know what the difference between an autobiography and memoir. I like memoirs that aren't too long, or if the person has a cool story. I usually only read about people from the United States, though. Do you know if any of Osamu Dazai's books are in the library, because he sounds cool to read about.
Then Bex registered what Adohiro had asked, and was a little horrified. She didn't mean to make her parents sound awful, because they weren't prejudiced.
Oh they don't dislike Asian culture, but they don't know much about. They are really interested in history, but more of Native American history. That's what they both taught about and got their doctorate from. That's what they are teaching here in Europe. They're just using the time here to learn all about European history as well, since they live here. I'm sorry for making it seem like they didn't like Asian culture. I think it's cool because there's so much to learn about it.
Bex was blushing, and finished her sentence in a hurry. She desperately wished she could insert her foot into her mouth.

"They have Osamu Dazai's books in the library I believe, some of his books are a bit adult like since he always makes his characters want to do double suicide with his lovers or other weird stuff I guess. But he is very philosophical in a sense, too bad he died." He would sigh and he would listen to her quietly. She seemed to be rather talkative than normal, it was often hard to leave the conversation with these kinds of people. Whenever you would try to leave the conversation, they would hook onto you and drag you to talk more. However, Adohiro would still act very polite and look like he was visibly interested in what she was speaking. He soon heard about her parents once again and he would nod. "No, it is okay, I misunderstood. I guess my older brother was sort of a traditional strict Asian brother. He wouldn't hesitate to beat me over the head if I got bad grades." He would joke, corporal punishment sure was popular in South Korea defentally. He didn't know what other parents were like in different countries or if they were ever similar. "Were you spanked as a kid? It's common in my country." He would smile hoping it wasn't a weird question.
