For Frost, there was much excitement surrounding this year's ball. Greek mythology was an interesting theme, and she did have a fun time preparing for it. The Hufflepuff ended up picking to make an outfit after the Greek goddess Demeter. She felt it was rather fitting for her personality and her hobbies. Plants and life were kind of her thing.

The dress she wore was a nice shade of green that Frost thought complimented her auburn hair nicely. Leaves were incorporated throughout her outfit, as a reference to Demeter. Though it was a bit extra, Frost had gotten a golden halo sort of headpiece to wear with her half-bun. Once she was all dressed up, Frost smiled at herself in the mirror, almost giving herself a pat on the back for a job nicely done.

Excitedly rushing out of the Hufflepuff common room, Frost almost didn't notice Syl standing there. As she turned back, she noticed he was holding some sort of flower thing. "Hi,"The girl gave him a warm smile and gestured to the flower. "What's that?"

Though she wished they had talked more, Frost had been kept busy lately, usually with prefect duties, which she was sure he could understand, and duelling. But she was thankful for the time they could spend together at the ball. It was one more way of getting to know Syl better, which Frost would always be excited about.

"I like your outfit by the way. You look really nice." Though they didn't really match, the gold in both of their outfits made it so they complimented each other while still having something similar. Maybe they should have planned their exact outfits to match, but there was something charming about this that Frost liked. She hoped Syl didn't mind her lack of planning.

INTERACTIONS:@Adlai Rod
Elena's frown deepend as her eyes wandered towards a rather large mingle of students, some of which seemed to be getting relatively violent. For a moment, the brunette wondered if there was any cause for concern as she cast a precautionary glance around to anything that might seem out of place but much to her surprise, everything seemed as it should be which to the girl was a shocker to say the least. "Drama is right, they certainly seemed to have taken to it without any regrets." The Gryffindor would say pointing her empty glass at where some of the scuffles were breaking out. The girl reckoned it was bound to happen with so many kids and personalites clashing in one room. Perhaps someone had said something, perhaps rivalries had finally come to butt heads, it was inveitable that some sort of conflict would happen though that didn't mean she enjoyed being a witness to it.

"So, you're saying you're enjoying seeing people go at it with one another?" The third-year joked grinning though to be fair, she couldn't blame Adlai. Among all the chaos, the tension, it brought a sense of commotion that was in a very odd way welcoming. It was what made their stale years at Hogwarts not so stale and that was good enough for her. Although, the idea of having these sort of near-death experiences every month or so wasn't exactly on her list, it certainly would have made for a very dull year if nothing remotely interesting had occured. For example, her research project for the summer would be to find out just why exactly the Hogwarts Express had been subject to a group of wand-toting bandits or rather, it would be her father's. She was sure the news had already reached his ears, something major like that, it certainly would have but as long as she was still in one piece, he didn't bother too much and Elena found that she was perfectly fine with that.

Her interest was piqued by Adlai's confession turning her head to glance at her. "Oh?" Now, this was news that the Gryffindor had yet to hear reaching for one of the pitchers of punch to pour herself a small amount. "Well, don't just leave me wondering, who is it? Or do I have to go fight one of those kids to get the answer?" A jest of course but she was geniunely wondering who could have piqued the Hufflepuff's interest. If you asked Elena, there were certainly a lot of suitable potentials out there but it seemed like her friend had already narrowed it down to one or two options, her eyes twinkling with a sort of renewed curisoity as she raised the glass to her lips drinking up probably on her third drink by now. It was the best option at this point as the girl had no intention of joining the large scuffle that only seemed to be getting worser by the minute. She wouldn't be surprised if hexes started flying in a second but for right now, they were perfectly content.

INTERACTING: @Howard White, @Aurora Ranvier & @Lavina Cloven (iNPC)
Alan, after he had called the group of students out, started feeling a shift within him as his gaze dropped to his drink. It was like his eyes clouded over and as if someone had snapped their fingers, Alan's friendly confrontation was done. It felt odd, as if all his judgement fogged over and he was acting so unlike himself. His eyes would flash into a dark colour as his auburn hair would tint an angry, fiery red and he could feel his canines become more pronounced, nearly poking into his tongue, sharply. Alan resembled the calm before the storm, quite ironic with the god of nature he portrayed. The flow of emotions were distasteful and unknown to Alan, pure and unfiltered rage would befuddle his brain as he glared at the girl who had the audacity to run. "Get back here!", he would call out, his voice sounding unlike himself and if Howard paid any sort of attention, he would notice this was just terribly off. Alan didn't get mad, not like this.

As if someone else was in control and Alan just a mere puppet, dancing to the puppeteers whims, he raised his wand and pointed it towards the girl that took off, with a silly excuse, that Alan would usually have shrugged off, happy that at least the fight was done, but right now in this very moment, he just couldn't help but feel so... angry. "Wingardium Leviosa!", he called out, in the hopes of stopping the fleeing girl in her tracks.

The action would not cease from one moment to the next. For what was a Hogwarts ball without a little fun? More people seem to be taking on the trend of leaving, would they have gone if they knew what was waiting for them on the other side? At the very least this would give some cool down time for all ballgoers.

Do you feel the tickle of excitement in the air? It seems soon the trails were to end and they would organize the winners. Drink up mighty heroes, because whether your journey is near or far, feeding ego or having fun, there is something for everyone.
Essence of Insanity
Both foreign students Jayden holt(@Andrew vance), and Nikita Lebedev(@Paige Grant) would take a sip from this fountain. Was it an out of town favorite? It was sure to cause some sort of drama stirred into the mix. Hopefully the two students wouldn't end up giving bad reputation to both of their schools.

You will have an advantage when performing an impulsive action based on fear.
Forgetfulness Potion
@Elena Jangleton happened to take a drink from this fountain. This may have been the worst out of the few that she could get. One would've thought a lesson would be learned after taking from the drinks once, it seems not.

This will last for one round, you are forgetful and unable to remember any spell
No effect
@Marshal Mozor was a lucky one. As he took a sip of his drink, he would feel-nothing! The drink seemed absolutely like the normal punch you'd find going around at any event. It was odd for Hogwarts. But maybe Marshal had an intuitive instinct or knew what he was doing. Either way, his drink was normal, and his time throughout the ball would carry on with no effects just yet. Better luck next time, Marshal however could still find a way to add his own drama to the blossom ball scene. He just wouldn't have a source to blame.
Rest of the Scene
Rodion Makarovich(@Auora Ranvier) was taking a turn to come in the act of revenge, attempting to cast Tarantallegra at @Violet Carrington.

Rodion Wisdom Check: [d20: 17] + 7 = 24 > 9 → Success
Rodion Accuracy Check: [d20: 3] + 5 = 8
Violet Evasion Check: [d20: 1] + 9 = 10
8 < 10→ Miss
It seems even while retrieving shoes the girl had a knack or a sense when evading this spell. The spell would miss Violet Carrington entirely and everyone else in the way of this wild spell would move quickly enough away the effects of it would land on no one.

@Alan Vanes seemed to have the same ideas as Rodion just in a different context with a different spell. Having been under the affects of the befuddlement draught he would find himself flinging a spell @Auora Ranvier's way.

Alan Accuracy Check: [d20: 2] + 6 = 8
Aurora Evasion Check: [d20: 3] + 8 = 11

Though Alan had tried his best it didn't seem to be enough. Aurora had gotten away from the spell just in time before it had hit her, just before Alan was going to do something he would regret. It was lucky for him it had as well, wasn't he a prefect?

Nikita brought the glass to her lips, and took a sip. She felt embarrassed about everything she said to Levi, she took a long gulp. She peered at the punch left in the cup, but something wasn't right. Whispers swirled around her in the wind, everything around her was spinning. The whispers grew louder, but she couldn't understand them. She held a hand to her head and tried to shake away the voices.

All of a sudden, the scene around her was silent. Then the voices screamed at her.

Run
Trap
They're coming
Death
Danger
Trick
They're coming they're coming they're coming.

Nikita's fingers opened, and her glass smashed on the ground. "No no no no" She gripped her head, violently shaking it. The voices grew louder and her hands shook. She bumped into the drink table, shaking her head. Everything was so loud, she couldn't stand it. She screamed.

Really loudly.

She dropped to the ground, searching for something, it seemed. She ignored the broken glass.
"Lost Lost lost." She said, her hands shaking. It's a trap Lost, lost, lost.

Nikita couldn't speak. She could only think one word. Trap.

Trap
Trap
Trap.

It was a trap. They'll kill you She shook her head. "No No" Run

Run

Run

Run.

Nikita staggered as she got up. Her eyes were wild and full of fear. She looked to the flames whispering and walked over. "Please help me" She spoke to the flames. The flames formed an image~ in Nikita's mind~ a cat. But the cat had fangs. And it was hungry. Staring at her.

Now, I should explain. Nikita has a phobia of cats. Which is why she once again screamed and backed up, bumping into someone. It was hard to breathe. "It's a trap." is all she could say. She looked around wildly.

Sixty-three, sixty-four, sixty-five, sixty-six, sixty-seven, seventy-eight, seventy-nine, eighty, eighty-o— wait. No, that wasn't right. hadn't she just been in the sixties? Where had the seventies gone? Seventy— bother. She couldn't remember where she'd left off in her count. Or on which star. With a sigh, she started over...

One. Sip. Two. Three. Sip... There were so many stars speckling the night sky. There was Orion. Or was that the Cassiopeia's chair? It was a bit difficult to see them through the see of floating candles.. Perhaps if she could just get a bit closer? Or.. A hand reached up to nimbly pluck at the base of the nearest ones. They were out of reach. What a shame. A crane of the neck and shift of the feet hardly seemed to help with that, either. The stars shifted in and out of focus, their brilliance outshone by the far less dazzling but more hypnotizing flames that flickered and waned, casting vague shadows to—

Those beautifully distractible faerie lights snuffed in a second, Evelynn's vision casting into darkness and for a moment, she thought they'd gone out. Only, the wall of black just before her seemed to be physically encroaching into her space. Far too slow to react, it very well would have collided with her had it not managed to deftly manoeuvre itself just in time to avoid bowling her over. Unfortunately, that didn't stop her from startling, delayed reflexes kicking in to see her step back in haste to avoid a collision that wasn't coming. Juice sloshed, splattering over the edge. Having entirely forgotten that she was even holding a drink, amber liquid spattered lightly across her dress and eliciting a secondary reaction to try to avoid that as well. Which, naturally, only served to worsen it.

Then the blackness spoke, thick accent alluding to some mysterious origin story, and she realized it wasn't an animated shadow at all, but rather an unfamiliar boy. Really, the sight would have been a ridiculous one to behold. Posture arched, shoulders hunched up nearly to her neck, expression strained, arms held aloft with juice dripping down her wrists as she tried to avoid any further staining to her garment. And all the while, she found her attention drawn to his, great grey doe-eyes reflecting the miasma of candles and sky peering up at him to make up for his extra four inches. Statuesque and unblinking, she stared at him as a bead of juice traced a line down her arm, unnoticed.

Then, all of a sudden, she blinked and the illusion was shattered. A glance over her shoulder revealed that there was nobody else that he seemed to be talking to. But was she supposed to know him? Brows furrowed in apparent confusion as the fog that had started to lift settled comfortably over her mind anew. Whipping her head back around to him, she tried to make sense of what he was asking. Lost? Map? "Er..." She began to look around her own person, entirely missing the gun show as she searched for a reason as to why he might have been asking to— Asking...

Oh goodness...what on earth had happened. The shirt of her dress showed patches of dark fabric as though something had been spilled. Fingertips tested it, plucking at the fabric. Indeed, it was wet. When did that happen? Tilting her head, her clouded gaze dragged along her arm, settling on the liquid dripping from it and she realized someone was standing before her.

"Oh, goodness, I'm terribly sorry.." Fingertips brushed hastily at the juice on her arm as her gaze wandered his form in search for any sign of soiling. "I didn't spill on you, did I?" Had she bumped into him? An absence of any sign of staining seemed to suggest otherwise and her worry slowly gave way to utter confusion, noticing the way he was standing, arms up and flexed. Again, she glanced over her shoulder, searching for reason. Perhaps he was posing for a photo. "Ehm..." But there didn't seem to be one...As she righted herself back around to the front, it was as though the last ten seconds played swiftly through her memories like the projection of a rapid sequence photography.

"I'm sorry, did you say something?" She was almost certain that he had. But for the life of her, she couldn't recall whether she was imagining that or not.

Another voice cut through the din, this one heralded by a pervading warmth of familiarity. While they weren't really friends, per se, he had been a greater constant over the last year than most, with the possible exception of Ami and those upon the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Despite his eye-rolling remarks and suave attempts at flattery that he so easily directed to anyone of the fairer gender seemingly without discrimination, Evelynn had come to find a certain level of comfort in his company. The fact that he had improved so remarkably under her tutelage and that, together, they'd seen him through a near death experience only strengthened that silent bond all the more. Before he had even finished interjecting, Evelynn had visibly relaxed, shoulders dropping, frame easing. She'd even adopted the glow of a faint smile, eyes softening as they found purchase upon his face, then riddled with bemusement at the ridiculousness of his outfit.

For all of about half a second, anyway, until the boy's words registered in her mind. "Guns?" She echoed in alarm, widened eyes flicking back to the unfamiliar boy and taking a step back. Shooting range? Suddenly, it was the train all over again with tall unfamiliar men bursting in unannounced like cowboys on a mission. Instead of wands, they brandished fists, and had threatened to steal the students' magical implements. Again, Evelynn's gaze dipped to the display of brawn this boy exuded, only this time with a sense of apprehension in place of confusion. Was he from SCAR? Had they brought guns with them this time? Had they become so bold as to infiltrate...

Where was she? A hasty look was cast around to identify her surroundings as well as swift exit points, and without thinking, she'd hastily scrambled to pull up the hem of her dress to pull free her wand from the inside seem of her boot. Turning back, she had it raised. Not necessarily trained on the tall man-boy; but in front of her, defensively, ready to... Ready to.. To.. To cast a spell, surely...

Evelynn blinked. She'd been staring at her wand for some unknown amount of time—in reality, five seconds—trying to recall...a spell? Why though? In fact, when did she draw a wand? Glancing up, she saw Marshal there, glaring angrily up at a rather impressively build boy whom she did not know. He—Marshal that is—looked angry. Which was odd. She couldn't recall ever seeing him so defiantly antagonistic. Had the other boy said something? Done something? Who was he, anyway? "Erm..." All over again, Evelynn's countenance was riddled with confusion, and she slowly lowered her wand. "Is there something the matter?"
ACTION: Counting stars, losing count, takes a drink, starting over, forgetting she was counting and looking for constellations, silly candles in the way, OH GOODNESS, nearly getting bumped by a shadow, oh shoot, she had a drink, right, that drink is as much on her as in the cup now, heavens that shadow is a person, who is he?, oh dear did the drink spill on him, oh hi mark marshal, GUNS?!, where is this?, time for a spell, what are spells?, why is the wand out?, what is happening??

Misconduct had been committed, again. Running away without a destination was not as easy as how it being portrayed in those muggle movies, especially when someone has zero experience and debatable agility. Looking around to scanned the whole courtyard for some familiar faces to rescue the escapee, until a voice of none other than the same guy who investigated the crime scene exclaimed an incantation. “No- No wait" There was something about older students that made her saw them as this advanced spell caster that might as well turn her into a pair of adorable frog slippers, or perhaps even worse, such as a spoon with a hole on the centre that nobody even wants. Hence, she turned around and rushed back in lickety split towards the furious wizard with both hands up in the air while at the same time astonished with the fact she evaded the spell.

How much older was the boy compared to Aurora? According to the not so witty Ravenclaw, judging from the face maturity, maybe three, or four years older. Possibly five to be safe. From the perspective of his height, it was rather hard to judge since some second years were the same height or even taller than him. Despite all of that assumed information, the young girl still believed the feasibility that he might be much older than that. “OKAY I WILL PLEAD GUILTY!” Abruptly stopped in front of him, still maintained a safe distance, with hands still up in the air, “I was just minding my own business and then this random girl started to compliment my dress as a distraction to snatch away my purse I guess, I don’t know, I’m not sure-“

Beads of sweat formed on her forehead, she broke the eye contact subsequently “-then I tried to make her do a flip, but I missed and hit another random person but I swear it was self defence, sir-“ Was he that old to be called ‘sir’? “-no, wait, officer?, bobby? wizarding bobby, d-do you even have- you know-“ Aurora then grabbed an invisible card holder from her non existent pocket, slightly changed her voice to be somewhat deeper to make her roleplay as an agent be more realistic, “-FBI, You’re under arrest“ To be fair, the eternal nervous rambles were undoubtedly time consuming. “Wait, am I getting arrested? If I give you a hug and a bar of chocolate will you not arrest me?“ At that moment, she legit thought the next chapter of her life will be spent in jail, either the muggle version or the magical one. With a defeated sigh, the Ravenclaw put back her wand to her purse and replace it with a bar of chocolate. “I’m just eleven and now I have to go to jail? At least wait until I have a cat!” then she would move closer and hug him, tightly, maybe sobbing a little bit.

OWL OR DM FOR INTERACTIONS I don't bite
───────────────── • ─────────────────
Ah, the déjà vu was sickeningly potent.

Really, it should have gone without saying that Rafael hated these kinds of events. Alas, the young Captain had come to the general conclusion that after having fallen victim to a general assortment of dangers ranging from vampyr mosps, fire, and stray spells to his own arrogance and stupidity, that perhaps his attendance wasn’t in favor of his mental and physical health. Once bitten, twice shy, was it? Did he even care? Of course, he knew full well that the event at hand was probably going to go horribly wrong – was prone to it, even – so why was he still not deterred? He really couldn’t be brought to care all that much, to be honest. Call it dissociation. Things often went wrong at Hogwarts, after all, and he supposed trying to prevent it or hide from it was inevitable in and of itself anyways. If he was going to die a horrible miserable death within the halls of the school of magic, it was probably best to get it over with sooner rather than later.

[Or, perhaps a part of him enjoyed the exhilaration of existing on the cusp of action. Never prepared yet never deterred by the adrenaline rushing through his veins. Adrenaline was a drug and the Captain was addicted.]

The previous trials had been… well, they had been, he supposed with a bout of relief. Now that he had finally completed the challenges, the young man could finally enjoy himself a bit and loosen up. Taking a moment to adjust the tailored suit hugging his waist and fix the tie adorning his neck, he chanced a glance around – it would seem as if the ball area were bustling with activity, unthankfully so. He’d been meaning to find Anastasia, spend the night messing around with her in general, maybe find some trouble to get into or locate some other friends and dance a bit. He’d also heard from someone or other that his boyfriend was to be in attendance, though having not heard any such thing from Rett himself, it was impossible to know for sure. Ah, well, he supposed it was better a time as any to search for his significant other. His eyes carefully roamed about the floors, surveying the crowds for the familiar red hair that marked that of the Ilvermorny student –

Well, red hair had never been in abundance. He’d located it very quickly – however, its owner left a sour taste in his mouth.

Unnaturally bright pupils brushed against a familiar sight – striking red hair, antagonizingly pretty features, sharp eyes upturned a look of subtle confusion. A groan of distaste sounded from the confines of his throat, knuckles tightening on reflex. Alas, it would seem as if he had located his co-captain rather than his date, the object of his most avid hate and dejections chattering about with an upperclassman the Captain had seen during last year's summer activities. [And was that underclassman her date? If not, he may just introduce himself. The kid wasn't so bad looking.] She looked far too pretty for her own good, yes – in a moment of pettiness, the young man took a moment to check his own outfit for validation. A quick glance at a nearby goblet would confirm his theory – ah, yes, still dangerously attractive. However, no amount of self-satisfaction would be able to drown the sickening boiling of hate within the confines of his stomach. She was happy, that was a problem – perhaps, then, he would change that. After all, it wasn’t like he could allow her to enjoy her night. What kind of rival would he be?

He’d made his decision. Sauntering in her general direction with a confident, nonchalant sort of ease not unlike that of a man with great wealth or status, he took care to slip about the many moving bodies about him, his fingers clasping a goblet from the drinks table on his wayward quest for vengeance. He would not deign to take a sip, wary of its contents – he supposed he weren’t particularly parched, so there was no way to indulge regardless. A gentle smile would grace his handsome features in foreshadow of his impending actions – she was ever unsuspecting, this would be rather fun. Finally having reached the girl’s general vicinity, he took a moment to school his features, his pace never wavering in speed. Mischievous brown eyes turned soft as they gazed just over her shoulder, to the unsuspecting onlooker innocent and unattentive, his shoulders lowering in ease and posture masking his mischievous look in a costume of dissociation. However, there would be nothing innocent about the way he bumped into her left side, his goblet tilted out with every intention to wreak havoc upon the lovely dress she donned so daintily. It would appear to be an accident, albeit a suspicious one – just enough to pass as a mistake but not to its victim. He would offer her a seemingly apologetic smile, though a careful eye would be quick to catch the malicious glint in his eye, very slight sharpness to his smile.

“Oh, your dress! I’m so sorry.” No, he wasn’t. Not in the least – and she would be able to tell. He knew she would. “Although, I can imagine in standing in the walkway, some people may find it hard to maneuver about you. Struggling tonight, are we?” He would take not a second to correct his own hypocrisy, for of course, he had known exactly what he had done and had no intention of owning up to a mistake he did not make. He would cross his arms, lifting his chin in the slightest as to gauge her reaction. It was best if she made a scene – more story to take on his way. Even in the case that she kept matters quiet, however, he was having plenty fun. He supposed it was as good a way as any to start the festivities.

Interception

When a Quaffle is being passed, users with this ability automatically get a chance to Intercept the quaffle. This does not replace their normal action for the round. This put the quaffle in your and by extension you teams' possession.

Also, if the Quaffle is dropped for any reason, you would automatically (without it taking up an action) attempt another Quafflegrab. At present there would be no mid-round way to drop a quaffle due to the order of operations, however there will be certain effects in future patches that can cause this effect.
Catch
Reducio
Able to catch two falling players on your broom when playing Quidditch. These additional caught players would be brought to the ground safely and they would be allowed to retrieve their broom and enter play again the next round. This can be done every round as the player's action if they choose to do so.

With brooms that have the feature where an additional player may be caught (such as Bluebottle) where there is a stackable chance of failure with each additional person caught, there is no stacking failure chance for players with this ability.

Ana swept into the ball, results of the trials pushed to the back of her mind. She would reflect upon it later, but for now, she had a party to get started. She was already late and had missed a bit due to her choice to participate in the Trials, so she had quite a bit of partying to make up.

The spitting image of Aphrodite, Ana swept into the ball. As she saw throngs of people speaking, a horrible realization struck her. She had entirely neglected to get a date. Mainly because she had been so focused on school and Quidditch that she hadn't given the ball too much thought, but there was another reason that she wasn't entirely prepared to admit herself. The relationship between herself and Flash was over, and while that might (definitely) be for the best, that didn't mean that she was unscathed emotionally. The point of a relationship was to be there for one another, was it not? And both she and Flash had failed miserably.

Additionally, she would be willing to bet twenty galleons that Flash had some kind of date and the idea of being the one out of the relationship to lose didn't sit right with her. An entirely sane person might note that such things weren't a competition, that it was alright to sit with her feelings, and going stag to a dance wasn't the end of the world. There was absolutely nobody on the planet who would accuse Miss Beckett of being entirely sane.

She scanned the ballroom as a plan took shape in her mind. As she looked about, she caught a glimpse of Rafa who appeared to be speaking to a certain Quidditch co-captain. That couldn't be going well for either party involved. A part of her knew it would likely be far more enjoyable to just spend time with Rafa than her half-baked plan, but she didn't listen to that part. She had far too many reminders lately that what she did at Hogwarts reflected upon her family, that she was anything but an ordinary schoolgirl no matter how desperately she might wish to be. The things she did for the Beckett name...

A target was selected. He was sufficiently attractive, took the Greek theme of the ball seriously enough, and didn't look like a complete and utter moron. She could do worse.

She made a beeline for her unsuspecting victim. "I must say, your ensemble is close to perfection, but it's missing something," she declared confidently before pausing a moment as if contemplating what his outfit was missing. Without giving him a chance to interject, she continued. "Ah, of course! It's missing me, on your arm." On that note, she threaded her arm through his and began to steer the pair towards the beverage table. "I'm Anastasia Beckett, by the way. I presume you have a name?"

She had definitely had worse ideas. None that readily came to mind, but she knew for a fact that she had. This wouldn't even make the top twenty. As she snuck another peek at her date, she was rather captivated by his golden eyeliner. This was certainly not someone she would terribly mind spending part of the evening with. In any event, she had a proclivity for abandoning her dates at things like this, so it was unlikely that it would take up their entire evening. Still, her eyes distractedly searched the crowd for a sign of Rafa. Definitely due to the fact that he was her best friend. Absolutely no other reason...

"So, which school do you attend?" Ana asked as she absently selected a drink and took a sip. Doing so made her question whether that was remotely prudent. Considering that she attended Hogwarts, it was entirely possible that the drinks were potions or something else unpleasant. Too late now...

Nate had never had to feel the effects of such a potion on himself and after today he would do anything to prevent it. He probably wouldn't drink or eat anything from Hogwarts again. Nate was not the type to be so open about his feelings, let alone fearful. But now he was sitting here on the floor and all he could feel was confusion and fear.

Luckily for him, his good friend Irina was with him. His date had stood him up but even though he was disappointed about it at first, he could only be glad now. Never would he have wanted him to have such a meltdown in front of his date. Irina, on the other hand, was something else. They were friends, they had known each other for some time. He would still be embarrassed in retrospect, after all he was Nate who stopped at nothing but much more he would be grateful for her.

As Irina continued to talk to him and calm him down, he noticed how he suddenly actually calmed down. The effect wore off and soon he would be the old Nate again. He wouldn't admit it but he liked the fact that Irina, a girl, stood up for him like that and changed into a protector mode. A small smirk escaped him, the fear almost forgotten.

It took a few more minutes while Nate just sat there quietly. The fear faded, but more and more confusion arose in him. Why was he sitting here on the floor? What had happened? Now that the effect had completely worn off, he smiled slightly at Irina, her last words still a presence in his mind. "I'll help you!"

There he was again, the Nate they knew. He ran his hands through his hair before wiping his face to find that there was a half-dried tear there. What the hell? Had he been crying? Had he cried in front of Irina or much worse in front of the whole school at the ball? He tried to remember but there was so much in his head it was hard. He thought and thought and suddenly a memory came to him of how he had screamed that he was being poisoned. Irina had also mentioned it just now and even though everything suddenly should made sense now, it didn't.

He jumped up now and held out his hand to Irina to help her up. He patted his suit and looked once through the crowd. He stood up straight, his broad shoulder pulled back and his gaze fixed, eyebrows slightly drawn together. He looked now at his friend, who had been by his side the whole time. "Irina, what happened?" he whispered to her, pulling her by the hand carefully with him to a quieter corner. He was incredibly thirsty and as they walked his eyes fell on the drinks, but something inside him screamed that he must not drink any of it.
