Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades
INTERACTING: trial host | OUTFIT
Nichlas was still a bit angry by the time he had arrived at the trial and he wasn't really good at not letting his emotions affect others, as he had quite crudely waved off the host of this trial as he walked past them into the maze. He didn't even have time to admire any of the attempts to set the mood visually, then again as soon as he had entered the maze it became pitch black and the boy had to focus to find his was through. Of course he didn't actually enjoy these child games, but perhaps it would deliver some kind of understanding of how the students of Hogwarts thought.
As he reached the end there was finally something that was somewhat interesting to do, or at least would jog his memory a little. He would answer the questions, quite shortly but efficiently. He seriously just wanted to get through these events so that he could join back with the others and keep an eye on the guy eyeing his little sister. He still couldn't believe that Ella would go behind his back like that and in a way he was perhaps a little hurt by it. He and Ella have always been close and at leas she had been always very open with him and told him about all her secrets and plans for when she got bigger. So why would she start keeping secrets now?
"Let's see... Green leaf, an orange snake, eye of newt and banana and as for Tolipan Blemish Blitzer, it treats acne pretty much a teen favorite... Bundimun are green ugly pests that collapse buildings with their ooze and just stink horribly... am I done?", he asked with his thick swedish accent, before moving on. He didn't have time for this... He kind of hoped that Greta would hurry too in case she was interested in participating in those trials. After all he owed her a dance, which is the least he could do if he agreed to be her date on this day.

The fourth game Elisabeth tried tonight was not that bad; in fact, one might say it was very much like Hades himself - most likely to be misunderstood, particularly if one judged by mere a sheer knowledge about him.
He was the king of the dead, but not dead himself, Elisabeth recalled as she entered the pitch-black maze. Participants were banned from using any form of light, so the Hufflepuff closed her dark eyes and stretched her arms in front of her. "That's better," she thought. It was not surprising that she could see nothing as her eyes were closed, but if they were opened and she still could not catch a glimpse of anything, it would make her feel weird, as if she had severe visual disability.
Earlier, the hostess had explained that participants would need to answer several questions in this challenge. Elisabeth kind of hoped that the quiz would be on the god of wealth himself. She could almost hear her mamá's voice reading about Dis with her only two or three years ago... "He was unpitying, inexorable, but just; a terrible, not an evil god..."
Unfortunately for her, the questions asked were about school subjects. Even more unfortunate, the questions seemed to be aimed for more senior pupils instead of a first-year like her!
The ingredients of Ageing Potion? Elisabeth could recall no such potion in her entire academic year at Hogwarts. Surely they had not learnt it in their Potion class... "I don't know," was the only defeated reply she could give, "I don't think we first-years have studied it in class..."
The second question was only slightly better: What does a Blemish Blitzer most likely do? The Belizean could slightly recall that it was some kind of beauty potion, but what exactly does it do? Torn between curing boils and treating acne, she finally chose the latter - "Treats acne," she said without any distinct emotion. (To cure boils, there is another potion - so surely this cannot be the function of Blemish Blitzer, can it?)
The last challenge turned out to be the easiest. They were asked to describe a Bundimun, and since Elisabeth was rather fond of magical creatures, she remembered some pieces of fact about this beast. "It's a beast capable wizards should be able to cope," the Asian-Latinx girl tried. "It can be found worldwide but unfortunately is a pest... A Bundimun likes to live in houses and is capable of collapsing said house if it grows too big. In ordinary cases, though, the scouring charm should be effective enough to get rid of it. It resembles green fungus but with eyes and actually has multiple spindly legs... and it likes to eat dirt."

This was it - Florian's first trial. He entered the room, both intrigued by what Hogwarts had managed to set up for the event, as well as an actual bout of concern began to rise in his chest. It wasn't nervousness per se, but a gut feeling to be on one's guard. The room was pitch black, except for red eyes flashing around what would most likely be the edges of the room - that is if you could actually see it.
He listened patiently as someone explained the trial to him. 'No light? hmpf.' Well he wasn't about to get disqualified for trying, but he kept his wand out in case of any oncoming danger.
Florian took a cautious step forward, into the dark. He placed his non-wand hand against one of the labyrinth walls and began his journey into the depths of the maze. After a few turns and doubling back after a dead-end, Florian reached the first question.
What ingredients are in an aging potion? He cursed under his breath. He hadn't learned the potion yet, what on earth was he to do? He contemplated for a few moments. "Well... of course, the Aging Potion is made up of whatever ingredients are on the potion's ingredient list." He answered, realizing that this was probably not what they were looking for, but... he wasn't wrong, was he? He tried to push down the rising anger in his chest as he continued into the maze.
He pressed onward, now reaching a second question. Now this one seemed a bit more straightforward. His confidence rising he stated matter-of-factly, "A Blemish Blitzer sounds like exactly what it does, it removes blemishes that one would prefer not to have. Perhaps scars or acne." He nodded, returned his hand to the wall, and continued onward again.
The voice from nowhere boomed again, onto the last question. Now this one was a pretty easy one, thank goodness. His annoyance, Emile, was rather a thorn in Florian's backside, but for once the little creature-obsessed boy would prove useful. "A Bundimum is a horrible-smelling pest. It is green and had many eyes. It feeds on dust and secretes acid that can destroy buildings. Horrible creatures." He nodded matter of factly. If he got out of here, he would have to thank Emile for actually being useful for once. Or maybe just never tell him, because if he did, he feared he would never hear the end of it.
And Florian pressed onward, hoping he would reach the end of the maze soon.

At last, Dan approached the last trial. He had performed the Riverdance of his life for Lord Apollo, Performed a footrace to be an UberEats for a pomegranate, Collected flowers for Lady Persephone, had to resist the most horrible temptation to do something as simple as turn around and look behind him, had a quiz on magic made by Hecate, which he was still not entirely convinced that it wasn't a student wanting to get the answers to his homework...
And now, the Trial of Hades. Lord of the Underworld. Dan and his friends had already done a quest for him during his first summer at Camp Half-Blood. They had to retrieve Cerberus for him.
Boy hadn't THAT quest spiraled out of control.
But that was not the point. This was the final trial the gods had put in place. And, for the glory of Hermes Cabin and Camp Half-Blood, he would complete it.
It seemed that this one was in a maze.
Kaloo Kalei, oh Frapturous Day.
Dan had had enough of mazes when he went into the Labyrinth to find Koios' base.
Weirdly, the information flyer said to trust his instincts and that this was a test of wits.
....Instinct and wits were two vastly different things, often conflicting with one another... Dan found this weird.
But, he steeled himself, and ignored Cerberus' gaze, knowing better than to look him in the eyes. That would just piss him off, and seem as though you're challenging him. Unless your name was Heracles, challenging Cerberus was ALWAYS a mistake.
Dan walked inside, and began navigating the maze. He couldn't see ANYTHING very far in front of him, even with his thief-enhanced night vision. He used his bare feet to scout out shortly in front of him on each step to ensure he doesnt step on anything bad.
After a bit of wandering, a question was asked of him. This was great news to Dan, as this signified the first section done. The question was "What ingredients does it take to make an Aging Potion?"
Dan smirked. Potions was something he was extremely interested in. In fact, he had planned to use this very potion to see if he could sneak into a higher year's potions class, but never got around to it.
"The ingredients used to make an Aging Potion are Bananas, Spleens of Newt, an orange serpent, and a green leaf."
Evidently having satisfied the one asking the question, he assumed Cerberus himself, Dan continued on.
While he liked the idea, he began to wonder why they made a maze where you can't see anything. You couldnt see anything anyway in a maze made for people. Yeah the atmosphere was creepy, which is what they were going for....Oh whatever.
Soon, he arrived to a second question:
"What does a Blemish Blitzer most likely do?"
Dan didnt need to think hard for this one either. In fact, he thought he had seen a product with that name in Dingle.
"Blemish Blitzer is a potion for treating acne. I'm... not sure if it could be used for boils or not."
Satisfied yet again, Dan found he could continue. And continue he did. Padding about until finally, he came to the final question, and he assumed at least close to the end of the maze.
He thought about the others, trying to think of what the final one might be.
'What are the ingredients for an Aging Potion?'
'What does a Blemish Blitzer most likely do?'

"What is a Bundimun?"
Dan had to think about this one. He remembered something about a Bundimun in something he read...
"A Bundimun is a XXX (snicker) class magical creature. It is many eyed, and looks like a mound of green goop. It lets off a stench of rot, and secretes acidic slime that can rot away at structures. But, its nasty gloopiness can be used for cleaning solutions. Because why not."
Dan then continued, a bit bummed to not have reached the end yet, but was confident that he would find the end soon.

Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades
Graphic by Leonard OaksworthInteracting with: @Evelynn DecipioAs they approached the maze, Marshal could feel the darkness creeping in, encircling him about like a morbid blanket that wanted to cover him for eternity. It closed in until it felt as though he and Evelynn were the only two people remaining in this world, all other avenues of assistance cut off.
A palpable sensation of fear threatened to force its way into his lungs, as it seemed to contaminate the very air they breathed. But he closed his mind to it, forcing himself to draw long, steady breaths to maintain his focus on the task at hand.
Though the atmosphere was decidedly more ominous than any artificial sense of dread he had ever encountered, he wouldn't be reduced to a babbling fool now, not in front of Eve.
Well, to be fair, that was exactly what he had been reduced to when asking her to the Ball, but he wasn't keen on letting it happen again.
He had been through a corn maze a time or two, though not since he had accompanied his parents and sister to one of the more festive parts of England, some three or four years prior. The experience of escaping the maze had hardly been his own, having blindly followed his sister's every instruction until they found the sweet release of freedom.
Thinking back now, he failed to remember any of those instructions, which was hardly helpful. He glanced at Eve, desperately wishing that she could enter alongside him and take control of all navigational duties while he kept a lookout for anything nefarious, like trains. But unfortunately for him, this would be a task accomplished through his own wit and cunning; that fact was less than comforting.
"If I don't come back out," he said to Eve, eyes fixed dubiously upon the maze entrance, "Just leave, I guess? And tell my family I love them, but make my death scene really dramatic and a lot cooler than, 'There was this dance, and Marshal just couldn't cut it.'"
As he offered one last reassuring smile in her direction, he found himself feeling strangely content. If Eve were the one to tell his parents of his demise, then at least his father would learn who had accompanied him to the fateful dance. That, at least, would leave him with a proud memory of his son.
After chasing that trail of thought for a few moments, the boy shook it off. The number of times he'd found himself content with the idea of death since arriving at this school was becoming a concern. Of course, when actually met with a very real possibility of kissing farewell to mortal life, his emotions had been in a far less stable place, and hadn't returned to normal since.
He shrugged. Certainly death wouldn't actually come at a school-sponsored event, despite warnings from multiple people, not to mention past experience.
Glancing back to the spot his date had disappeared, he came to the realization that he was very alone. While in her presence, he had been given the distinct impression that they were the only pair left in existence; and now, it was only him, adrift in a sea of shadow, his ship having lost its buoyancy.
Again, the tangible sense of fear fought to take its hold, but again, he resisted. It would do no good to surrender to such inclinations. Compliance would only result in incapacitation, in being rendered useless, and he had tasted enough of that in his lifetime.
The young Gryffindor finally took his first tentative steps into the maze. Nothing immediately leapt at him from the gloom with intent to kill, which resulted in a rush of impetuousness, fueling his stride as he moved deeper.
Later that night, the boy might be asked how he had escaped the maze. Did he have a plan for guaranteed success? Likely success, even? Absurd. Why did he need a plan when he had confidence? Surely the gods would smile upon such a brazen display of mental fortitude; certainly, they would reward him with good fortune and the freeing gift of passage. If not, the inanimate walls of the maze may well be introduced to a select few words that his mother would never condone.
Following some amount of time traversing the winding ways, a voice melted from the darkness, demanding his attention. Aloof as usual, the first-year was taken aback by the sudden presence of sound, breaking the mold of silence. He swung to face the stranger, hands flying to a position of defense, as though he were about to execute a flawless stream of karate moves he had never learned.
Upon further reflection, he supposed he would have to work on going for his wand in such situations, as he doubted most wizards gave a flying leap about karate.
"An Ageing Potion?" he parroted upon hearing the given instructions. Hands dropping, his shoulders slumped in disappointment. He'd have preferred the shady figure attack him.
The cogs inside his brain slowly began to turn, veritably screeching with the effort. Upon reflection, he could vaguely picture the class wherein they had been taught of the Ageing Potion. Mentally, he tried to center his focus on the board where various ingredients would be jotted down, but the vision swam and faded.
However, he heard a voice trickle from another memory, this one far clearer than the monotonous chatter of any professor.
"Newt's splean," came a hesitant response as he repeated the words Evelynn spoke to his mind, "An orange snake, bananas, and..." he squinted, one eyebrow arching, "A green leaf?" The answer came as more of a question than anything, and was met with an indication that he should move on, so he obliged.
The next question was met with a smaller dose of the martial arts, but no less animosity. However, the name of this potion jumpstarted his memory by itself.
"It treats things like acne, or other small blemishes. Either the name makes this really easy, or I'm completely off. Probably the latter."
With that, he continued on his merry way, only to be stopped once more sometime later. This time, no bell of familiarity rang; no voice was coming from the past to save him.
"You don't have to use that kind of language with me," he chastened the dark figure. "I know I'm taking a while to get through this thing, but that doesn't mean you have to get nasty about it."
Sadly, his quips were not met with amusement, but a deadpan expression that betrayed nothing.
"Can I hear the question again?" Upon hearing the repeated words, he had no further clue what he should say. "A Bandimum, right? I don't know; maybe that's your mum's band?"Action: Moving through the maze. Answering two out of the three questions.

Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades

Walking through a dark maze without any aid was not a simple task, but there was nothing that Gregorí could do except doing his best. The Ilvermony kid stayed on one side instead of the middle of each road, trying to feel walls with his hands. This way at least he had a little aid in figuring out where he was going - that is, not straight to a wall that could injure him - the way a person with visual challenges utilized a stick to navigate way.
The questions he needed to answer was easy, though.
There was one question for each section of the maze, and the first asked him to identify the ingredients of Ageing Potion. Having an interest in his potion class, the Horned Serpent boy replied, "A green leaf, newt spleens, an orange snake, and bananas." He did not give an answer in a pompous, bored, or a know-it-all tone, but simply in a matter-of-fact tone, the way one would answer a friend who requested a study help.
He used exactly the same tone when answering the second question. "It treats acne." Gregorí knew very well that the potion was made of dragon claw, and that it was white with thick paste consistency, but he said nothing of these since the question only asked what Blemish Blitzer most likely did. He was not that much of a perfectionist, he guessed.
The last question focused on Bundimun and participants needed to describe them. A biology enthusiast, the Mexican boy had been immediately interested in magical beasts ever since he learnt about their existence. He gave the best description of Bundimun that he could think about, "A beast that competent wizards should cope, it can be found worlwide. A Bundimun excels at infesting houses and its presence is marked by a foul stench of decay. This beast is a pest and will rot away the foundation of the house it is in, thus capable of collapsing the house. Normally Scouring Charm should be good enough to repel it away, but if it's neglected and has grown too large, officials ought to be contacted to get rid of it before the house collapses. Although a pest, its secretion is used in magical cleaning fluids. A Bundimun looks like a patch of greenish fungus that has eyes and a lot of spindly legs, and its main diet is dirt."

Entering her first Trial, Mel was immediately engulfed in pitch back. Now, thiswasn't your average darkness. It was thick and blinding and creepy and...just really dark. (Mel made a mental note to improve her vocabulary when she got the chance.) She felt as if she was alone at the bottom of the ocean, in one of those deep-sea trenches you see in National Geographic documentaries. She felt her heart rate begin to rise. Mel had never liked the feeling of not being in control, and what situation was more uncontrollable than being in a dark room, in a foreign country -no, continent- unsure of what was going to happen next?
The girl ventured slowly into the maze, running her hand along a wall to keep herself oriented. She gained confidence and sped up a little, until she was at a jog, then nearly a run. A voice at the back of her mind told her she was being stupid, and to slow down for God's sake, but Mel ignored it. She was Melody Westmoore, and she didn't have to listen to anyone, least of all a stupid voice in her own head. And who knew, maybe she'd do better in the Trial because of it. The only thing she had been told was that lights of any kind -wand, muggle or otherwise- were off limits, but perhaps speed was something they took into consideration? As it turned out, though, she would have been better off heeding the voice's advice, because an unseen turn in the maze left her stumbling in the darkness with no wall to grasp. In her surprize and haste to find her way again, she tripped over herself and crashed to the rough floor, scraping her knee. Swearing, Mel assessed the damage. The sound of her own voice was startling after so many minutes of stifling silence.
She couldn't completely tell without the presence of light, but there seemed to be a small amount of blood. Not too bad though. Grumbling, Mel got to her feet, using her Hecate spear like a cane to push herself up. A few seconds of waving her arms around brought her to another wall, and she went, having no way of knowing whether this was the right way, much less if it was even the same direction she had been heading before.
Mel traveled more slowly and cautiously now, embarrassed even in the darkness about her lack of foresight. I guess pride really do goeth before a fall. A few minutes of walking aimlessly, and a loud voice rung suddenly out around her, reverberating off stone.
It quizzed her on what ingredients were in an Aging Potion.
Oh, she had done this one last month in class, and though Potions wasn't her best subject, she -mercifully- remembered the items.
"Uh, newt spleens, an orange snake...ummmm, a green leaf, and..." What was that last one? "Oh yeah, bananas." Wow, wixen* put weird stuff in their elixirs. It clearly worked for them, though, so who was she to judge?
Mel waited for confirmation that she had answered correctly, but none came. The voice had gone silent -for now. She was pretty proud, though, because that had felt right, and for all her confidence she had been a little worried. Just a little.
A couple more twists and turns in complete darkness, and her second question came, asking about Blemish Blitzers and what they (most likely) did.
"What the heck does that mean, 'most likely'? Wouldn't we know for sure? Wizardkind has been using this potion for how long? Doesn't it either do the thing or not?" Maybe it was like one of those hippie herbal remedies that probably worked but no one could be sure. It seemed like magic should be a bit more precise, but oftentimes it was more willy-nilly than you'd think.
The voice said something about deflecting the question and did she know the answer or not? "I think you're the one deflecting the question here," Mel mumbled, but when she tried for the answer, to her horror, her mind came up blank. No no no, that couldn't be right. Blemish Blitzers, Blemish Blitzers...ha that was a funny name. Focus! Ok, I can do this. She heard a countdown in her mind like on a quiz show. Ten, nine, eight...
Out of nowhere, her fourth grade teacher's voice drifted into her head. "If you're ever unsure of the meaning of a phrase, use context clues. Etymology is helpful too, as well as pre- and suffixes." Ok, well Mel had no idea in Hades what a 'blitzer' was, but wasn't a blemish a mark on the skin? So that probably meant that blitzer meant something like solution, potion, or brew. And just like that, Mel had her answer (hopefully).
"Does it...cure acne?" She couldn't stop herself from adding "Most likely?" Again there was no answer, and Mel forged on before she could second-guess herself, feeling smug. Who knew fourth grade English could actually be useful in the real world?
A few steps and something brushed against her leg. It was cold and slimy and Mel stifled a scream. She whipped out her wand, and began to cast "Lu-" but stopped herself just in time. She had not made it this far just to be spooked by a something, no matter how slimey it was, and cast lumos like a toddler needing a night light. No, she was a Thunderbird, adventurous and brave, and she could do this, despite the ache in her knee from her earlier tumble. When the next question came, she was ready, and answered it almost without thinking. Of course a Bundimun was a green beast that smelled like mold and had many eyes. As far as she could remember, they could demolish entire houses. Not forgettable at all.
Now, to find the exit...

Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades
Entering thread from the Apollo
Meandering back towards the courtyard to see if he could attempt to actually find his date, Arjan spotted another trial. Oh right, that was a thing he wanted to do, right? He made his way over to find a voice greeting him and introducing him to the Hades trial. That was a cool name. Hades. It sounded... strong. Of course, he had no idea who it was but the name itself sounded strong and that had to count for something.
Apparently, this challenge was simple. All he had to do was walk through the dark. Pft, use his wand? That was ridiculous. Like he needed his wand to get through the dark! He could just punch his way through the dark, surely. Come on, he just oozed an aura of awesomeness. That had to count for a lot. Pretty much everything, in his book. With a smirk, he walked into the maze, as though he was unfazed by anything. He was so confident that he pretty much ignored all of the other instructions.
He had no idea there would be questions, until the moment that he had to answer them. Oh. Was he supposed to have studied? Were there clues? Uh. Whoops. Wait - an ageing potion? He should know this. Given who his mother was, he should know this. She would have spoken about this, no? He somewhat paid attention... Uh. "Hair! Some plant stuff like uh leaves and stuff. Oh! Spleens! And other creature stuff," He would reply, basically listing as much as he could remember. It was close enough, right? Who remembered the specific spleen required or the exact plant? Only people who cheated remembered such things - people who had the questions prior and had researched! Cheaters! This whole thing was rigged, no?
"It blitzes blemishes, innit!" He answered, as though that was obvious. What else would it really do? It was in the name, surely! Wait- was this a trick question? Was it actually something completely different? Was it a cleaning product or something? Perhaps those blemishes were things like stains on clothes or floors and this would blitz those marks off.
The third question completely threw him off. What the heck was a bundimum? Was it something you eat? It did not exactly sound tasty but it was something related to what happens to old people. So far, the questions had been about ageing and about gross blemishes. So like, maybe this was like a foot fungus or something equally gross. That made perfect sense given the context of the former questions. Plus it just sounded like a gross fungus thing or something, no? "A gross fungus, of course," Arjan responded with such confidence that it would sound like he knew exactly what he was talking about. If you did not know the answer, you would likely think he was correct just because of his tone.
Whatever happened, Arjan would answer the questions and attempt to get through the maze for his chance to win the title of 'ruler of the world' - uh ball. Ruler of the ball. He did it with confidence. Well, no one would be able to do better than him anyway. He had got this. The smirk on his face painted that picture very clearly.

Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades
As Santario entered, she felt like she was standing in the same forest she fell into when she went unconscious in the dungeons. She had tried to gently jump down a well when the bottom had broken through, and much to her dismay, San went plummeting to the bottom. How she was even still alive was a miracle in and of itself. Her dream had consisted of walking through a dimly lit forest with shadowy figures all around her. In the end, they had grabbed her and pulled her into the black void, leaving her falling, only to start over once more.Attire - Medusa

Her dream had been far more complicated, but the maze before her gave her pause as she wrapped her arms around her body. She was given the instructions, and she nodded. “Thank you.” The words coming out far more confidently than she felt. Santario took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her lips before walking through the maze entrance.
She would traipse with purpose. No arrogance would be emitted from the young Slytherin, making every step deliberate. An imaginary cold seeped in through her skins and attached itself to her bones, telling her that she should turn back and away from this place, afraid the hands from her dreams would reach out and take her at any moment. A voice startled her, making her jump back slightly. Right, the questions she would need to answer, this was not just about getting through the maze. Thankfully, this question was about potions, and any Slytherin could attest that there were three things Santario studied harder than anything else. Healing magic, herbology, and potions. “The required ingredients are a green leaf, bananas, an orange snake, and the spleens of a newt.”
Once the question was answered, Santario would continue, but with a bit more confidence than she had started with. If all the questions in this particular trial were about potions, it would be easier than expected. All she would have to do is remember to breathe and put one foot in front of the other. So she did just that, continued careful steps and deep breaths, and she wound her way through the darkness looking for the next question. In time she would finally find it, and much to her delight, it was another potion-related question. This one even touched on healing magic a bit. “Blemish Blitzer is a thick white paste that helps treat acne.”
Again, Santario left with more confidence than she walked in with. Two questions down and one to go, then she could get out of there and on to the subsequent trial. Undoubtedly, wherever she could go from here would be better. She already lived in her own personal darkness. She did not need to literally be living through one. It felt like forever as she walked through the maze, and at one point, she wondered if she had doubled back somewhere and gotten lost, but that was when she discovered the third question. This one was about a creature, one that contributed to potions, something still within her wheelhouse. “The Bundimun is a XXX classified beast that usually feeds on dirt. They look like a green fungus with many yellowed eyes. They are often seen as pests given their tendency to destroy whole houses in large infestations, but their presence is by far hard to miss, given their foul odor. While their ooze is extremely acidic, it is most useful in potions such as Doxycide and other cleaning solutions. Small colonies of these beasts may be dealt with easily by one person, but the ministry will need to be involved if it progresses into a large colony. Unless, of course, you wish to lose your house.”
That was that. Santario felt satisfied that she had adequately answered the questions and thankful that they all fell into her realm of personal studies, even if they were beyond her year. Now it was time to get out of here.

Blossom Ball- Trial of Hades
As she walked toward the Trial of Hades, a shiver ran down Lydia's spine. An ominous and dark feeling settled inside of her, together with a sense of intrigue, as she was swallowed by the darkness. She assumed it was part of the trial, and even if her first reaction was to stop in her tracks and walk away, she forced herself to continue, trying to be as careful as possible.
Then, a voice sounded in the dark, and explained the instructions, making Lydia slightly bite down on her bottom lip; no wands or lights were allowed, they had to navigate this maze in the absolute darkness, and they had to answer to three questions. Of course Lydia had brought her wand to the ball, having learned from the past, and knowing that she couldn't use it suddenly made it kind of tempting. However, she would have resisted that urge, not willing to be disqualified for not playing by the rules.
After the explanation was over, Lydia resumed walking, her wand safe on her waist, as she held her hands and arms in front of her, ready to soften the hit if she would ever fall. Who even knew, when everything was so dark. The part veela wasn't too sure about how much time had passed when she heard the first question.
"What ingredients does it take to make an Ageing Potion?"
Stopping in her tracks, Lydia frowned a little bit, her mind feeling hyperactive as she tried to recall anything she knew about that potion. She was sure she hadn't studied it yet, but- she definitely read something about it somewhere during one of her study sessions... wait- was there something behind her? She quickly turned her head in the direction she was sure she heard something.
With a sigh, she shook her head and concentrated back on her thoughts; the pitch darkness was influencing her vivid imagination too much, and she needed to focus. As she thought about it more, she started remembering small bits of information: bananas were involved in the making, and so were Newt spleens... oh! A green leaf as well! Lydia counted the ingredients on her hand, three of them already there. She was quite sure there was a fourth one involved, a snake, but which one?
She was undecided between an orange and a green snake; not sure about which one was the right one, she decided to go with the first one. "The ingredients are bananas, Newt spleens, a green leaf and an orange snake!"
After she gave her answer, Lydia started walking once again, getting deeper into the maze. The uneasy sensation was still there, and her imagination kept playing tricks on her, or was it? For the sake of her mental health, she tried to convince herself that nothing was actually there, and she kept walking. She finally reached the second question, and it was definitely easier than the first one. Lydia knew what the potion was supposed to do, and she had seen some of the other girls around school using it, so when she answered, she was mostly positive about her answer. "The Blemish Blitzer is supposed to treat acne!"
Moving her feet one after the other, completely disoriented by the darkness, Lydia wondered how long she had been there, and if she will ever get out of the maze. The third question came sooner than she expected, and she stopped her walk.
What is a Bundimum?
Well, for once Lydia didn't have to think about her answer for too long. She had read about Bundimum once, and she remembered she felt a little bit disgusted by its description. "It's a magical creature, with green "skin" and yellow eyes, that feeds on dirt and can potentially destroy a house. They smell bad, and they look a little bit like fungus -oh! They can be used in some potions as well!"
After that, the feeling of unease slightly went away, the worry of not hearing one of the questions not there anymore. That bad feeling, the little voice that tells you to turn around because something is looking at you, it didn't go away though, and as she kept walking, Lydia hoped to reach the end of the maze soon.
