The Blossom Ball was an event rife with rumors. Those of disaster as well as the promise of romance and apparently a Greek theme. Well, this was the one time he would get to wear a skirt and not be called 'pretty' for it. He would of course be a step above most of his peers who likely chose to dress in a palate of white and gold, bereft of creativity. Mathias was arriving without a date, not that he cared to bring one in the first place - too many expectations and they would fail to uphold theirs. It seemed by and large to not be an equivalent exchange.

Rather he would arrive clad in blue and copper, a king without the burden of a cape. He had to admit one thing besides the fact that he could have done with a bit less hair on his legs, the skirt was pleasantly breezy. He was here for one purpose and that alone, to piss off his brethren and perhaps make a name for himself in some of the other schools. One of his dormmates was dressed up as 'goat-boy' or at least that was what he would inwardly call him. "So that is how centaurs are made," he would comment passing Jack as the slightly older Snape dorm-member entered the personal space of some gaudy boy he did not know or care to become acquainted with.

There was a pretty blonde looking a bit disheveled, but besides these two points it would appear that the dance was going as well as it could be. This was of course only the start of the evening, if the dance went off without one trip to the infirmary it would be a school record. He hardly recognized the girl, her face done up more than usual. Marion Davenport, or as her 'friends' called her, "Mary." A pretty girl like her here all alone? What a travesty. He chuckled to himself, the ball had not even started and there was already drama. They did not even need him, the hero they never wanted or needed that would save himself from boredom.

He would not address her, there was no fun in that. Rather he would walk past her, through the 'underworld' to the ball proper. He had no interest in partaking in any sort of trial, especially one so vaguely referenced in the invitations that had been so haphazardly strewn about their living quarters. It reeked of desperation and public approval.

He would recognize a few other faces as well, such as Opeila Winters whom he would give a wide breadth for. Yes, he actively avoided that one unlike Marion whom he reacted to with casual indifference. Marion had attracted some guy he vaguely recognized also from their house. He was not particularly interested in whatever they had going on, was going to stalk his housemates and screw with them.

Jack being the nearest victim of his shenanigans. "Jack talks about you all the time," Mathias would eventually announce. "He was practicing pick up lines in the mirror all week," he lied for the hell of it.

The long awaited Blossom Ball was finally upon them, and it was nothing like Amelia had been expecting. For starters, the ball was not in a ballroom, it was outside in the courtyard. It was also Greek themed, and Amelia knew next to nothing about Greek mythology. She was seriously contemplating not going, but she didn't fully experience the Autumn Ball last October since she had left halfway through it and didn't know anything that happened after she left. So, she decided to go to the Blossom Ball. She had put together a simple outfit: a white dress with intricate gold designs around the waist and shoulders, a pair of white sandals, and some gold necklaces and heart shaped earrings to complete the look. Her hair was up in a simple up-do that was tied together by a gold accessory that fell down the length of her hair.

The organizers of the ball had released invitations twice a week in the lead up to the ball, the invitations were more eerie than inviting. Amelia was never a good code-cracker, and she could not crack the codes on the invitations for the life of her, but she supposed that the meaning behind the number codes and creepy messages would be revealed tonight. She also did not have a date to this ball, and was going to enter alone. Fortunately, there was a high chance that she would make some new friends tonight, or see some familiar faces that she could go up to and start a conversation with.

Amelia entered the courtyard, the light breeze lifting up the skirt of her dress slightly. The first thing Amelia noticed was the atmosphere, it was not light nor anything like spring. It was heavy, almost like it was actually pressing down on her. The music did not help the atmosphere, it was more relaxing than something you could dance to. For tonight, the courtyard was the Underworld, there was a strange bluebell flame in the corner. Amelia's curiosity grew as she stared at it, what was the purpose of the flame? Surely it couldn't just be for decoration, this was Hogwarts, and she had an inkling that a flame was never anything of innocence in this place. There were trails of some sort going on in the distance, students clustered around the various trails. Some were even brave enough to enter. Amelia doubted that she'd be that person tonight. Away from the courtyard was the spring festival, which looked like a happier and more lively place than this. She could hear the music slightly, it was more fitting music to dance to than the music here.

Turning her attention away from the dancing at the spring festival, she walked over to the punch stand. It looked like normal punch, but Amelia caught a whiff of a slightly odd smell as she stopped before the stand. She picked up a glass of punch and smelt it. "Yeah, definitely not," she decided, setting the punch back down, "I'd like to live to see the end of the night."

Amelia turned back around and caught a familiar face in the crowd, Winnie Harper. She had a few classes with her together and they also spent some time together during the bike errand last week. She was talking to an older boy that Amelia had never spoken to before, but having nothing better to do, Amelia walked over to them both. "Hello!" she greeted Winnie with a smile, "I love your gown, it's absolutely gorgeous. I hope you don't mind me coming over to you, but I recognized you in the crowd and decided to say hi. I hope I'm not interrupting anything." She explained. She turned towards the boy and gave him a smile, "Hi, I don't think we've met before. I'm Amelia, it's nice to meet you."

Get in line? What a joke. Her heart started to race, and she momentarily closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. No more running away from things. She was thirteen years old now, and it had been a year in a half since it happened, and she just could not keep running away from it. Even if it cost her everything, something she was sure would happen. It was why she didn’t reach out and try to make more friends with her peers, even though she wanted to. She was sure everyone would leave her in the end; even the ones who were already there.

A voice pulled her out of her depressive thoughts that made her want to go curl up in her bed and cry herself to sleep, something that happened more often than she would ever admit. Usually, she would not have assumed the girl was speaking to her, except that she had hurried over to her and was positively gushing over the Medusa outfit. “Oh, yes, it is. Thank you very much. Honestly, I'm not used to wearing so much makeup so just remembering not to touch my face is a hassle, but I am glad you love it.” The silvery French accent replied softly. A rare warm smile pulled at her lips as she realized that she did not think she had ever seen this girl before. “Well, I do like snakes, but that wasn’t my primary focus. As soon as the theme was mentioned, everyone spoke about being a luxurious God or Goddess. Not everyone can be one of the adored. Some of us have to play the cursed monsters.” Especially when we are made to be this way… Was how she finished that sentence in her heart. "Part of it was definitely her story, a true tragedy all because gods are fickle."

She held her hand out to the girl in greeting. “I don’t think we’ve ever met before. Are you a first-year? My name is Santario. I love your outfit and your camera! I almost brought mine, but I wanted to make an attempt to enjoy this ball out from behind the lens.” something that would probably change next time.

Had the pieces of lavish white fabric not found its way into Calanthe’s hands, she would have never been here. Another one of these blasted events was sure to drum up some kind of trouble, especially if the invitations were to be taken seriously. The wild imagination of the girl had her spouting theories of cowboys sneaking into the castle and spreading the flyers around, warning of the dangers to be found if students attended the ball. Thankfully, she would be proven wrong upon entering and learning of the Trials set up by the organizers.

But the possibility of danger was not the only thing that had kept her away. Calanthe was reminded of this after she listened to the Trials spiel and made her way through what seemed like a manifestation of limbo. The Underworld was, to her, simply a waiting room. The foyer of a grand hall preceding the ballroom. Peeking through to the entrance of the grounds, the lion spotted what was obviously meant to be the main attraction. She was horrified. Was the wallflower meant to spend her night there? A unwelcome visage is what she possessed and there would surely be no dancing for her. Unless she wanted to take to the floor herself. Humiliating.

The courtyard willed her to stay within it, darkness making Calanthe feel right at home. She did not enjoy the dark per se, but limiting the vision of others did much to make her feel more relaxed. Less of a chance to be perceived. She liked it. However, the somber mood, while welcoming, did not trump her goal of the night. She was looking out for danger and instead of running like a coward as she did in the last Blossom Ball, Calanthe would do her best to protect her peers this time around. Unfortunately and fortunately for the witch, she missed one of the largest potential sources of chaos as he took his exit to the more upbeat section of the festivity. She hadn’t any interactions with Vladimir, but his face was clear in her memory. The train crash in early January made sure of it. Only Olympus knew how she would have acted upon spying him tonight.

It was obvious that the darkest corner of the room would attract her. Even with the blaze of the blue flame, the zone swallowed any light. Perfect. It would be her spot to ruminate if the Trials were too difficult to complete.

Ah, the Trials. A younger Calanthe would revel in being called Queen or King, but now, she hadn’t given much care to it. The witch was fated to be alone for the entire night. Surely nothing would kick off this early. If the cowboys or the organization they represented were to show their faces tonight, it would definitely be when the grounds were more crowded. Calanthe was much too early for that and only vaguely recognized other faces. No one she had ever interacted with. Not that there are many of those, anyways. What better way to keep herself busy that attempting what the organizers had worked hard on?
Action: Leaving to complete the trials.

Arjan had absolutely no idea what to really expect at the Blossom Ball. He had attended Hogwarts once before and some stuff seemed to happen - a few fights or something broke out? He had paid little attention to it. It was mostly something dumb, in his mind. However, this time, he had even less idea. His mother had informed him that his sister wrote home to ask for one of her outfits to be sent - a white and gold Indian outfit that she had in her closet back home. Assuming that was the theme, he asked for the same. It was not quite... 'Greek' but boy, oh boy, did he try. The boy showed up with a white kurta with gold embroidery all over it, paired with gold trousers with his hair poofed up slightly at the front. It was not exactly appropriate to the theme but he thought he looked pretty dashing. He sported a pair of gold mojaris too.

It might have been wrong but no one could say that he did not try. The white and gold clothing helped him to look a little on brand, though, as a few others had similar colours in their clothing. More surprisingly than the fact that he had royally misunderstood the theme was the fact that he was showing up to the event with the most perfect date. Arjan was genuinely taken back a little when the younger daughter of the Stavrou family agreed to go with him to the dance. There was no reason for her to say no, of course. He was, after all, rather handsome and from a good wealthy family. Honestly, no one could really do better than him. But he had half-expected her to already have a date. Then again, maybe she cancelled the date just to say yes to him - he was that dashingly handsome, after all.

When he first saw her, he would give her a signature smirk as he ran his hand through his hair, pushing it back and simultaneously flexing his muscle a little as he often did as he walked over to her. Whilst walking, he pulled out a single rose from the top of his kurta, brought it to his lips and dropped a kiss on it before presenting it to her, "Miss Stavrou," He greeted her with a bow of his head, lifting her hand and placing a kiss on the top of it if she allowed him to. "You look wonderful," He would compliment. In reality, likely a compliment he would have given her regardless of what she wore or looked like but she did not need to know that specifically.

"May I?" He would offer his arm before they arrived at the Courtyard, where apparently they were heading to. Whether or not she took his arm, he would accompany her to the courtyard. The sound of the music immediately hit his ears and he could not help but wonder if she would want to dance. His hazel-brown eyes searched the area, spotting an area to get a drink as well as an area up ahead that seemed to have a completely different atmosphere. The area here had a dark vibe to it. Not that he was scared or anything, of course. It just did not scream 'spring' to him. He kind of liked it though. However, being the true gentleman that he was, he decided to ask his date for her opinion, "Would you like to stay here or continue on? Perhaps we could get a drink here to start with?" He offered with a smirk on his lips. It was far too early to start dancing, surely. But a drink and some polite conversation to start would be a good idea, in his mind.

Action Entering the ball.
She should have been happy to see Alexander. That was the intention, at least the superficial one -- to have a good time. Yes, there was a thread of intentional duplicity on her part but as Vladimir had pointed out, Alexander as likely no different. There was no such thing as coincidences. Yet like her relationship with Vladimir, her relationship with Alex was complicated.

They acted like good friends. Friends that might evolve into something more. He did not show any hint of the attributes that they had come to fear in him those years ago. The very same features she was seeing surface in Vladimir. This controlling, domineering nature. The potential for violence she had seem glimmers of before -- last year at the Blossom Ball and yes, today. She rubbed her forearm, the place where he had gripped her. A bruise would likely form where a red mark was already.

She was hardly innocent in this scenario. The intent was to set him off but she expected a passive reaction, to watch him stew. To gain some of the control over their relationship that she had lost when Victor died. She just got more than she had intended on this day and she was unprepared.

She did not call after Vladimir as he stormed off. His cousin with that mendacious expression would show not long after and she would not address him. She had no want for encouraging his company. She let out a sigh and then chewed on her lower lip. She was not going to cry out here in public, it would ruin the face she had painstakingly painted most of the day. She would muster a half-hearted smile when she noticed Alexander wearing... something princely. She was not entirely sure what he was wearing, it looked like something she would see in a fairytale book.

There was a flash of cold that would run through her. Yes, fear. Did he hear her and Vlad fight? Exactly what did he know if anything? Perhaps Vladimir was right, she knew his potential and Alex was a dangerous person that should not be taken lightly even if he was psychically neutered by Athanatos. She froze in place, expecting a confrontation of sorts.

"Are you alr-"

He would start to ask. Marion would not move. He would not even finish the inquiry.

"No that's a stupid question."

Marion would let out a breath of shuddering air as Alexander took her right hand. It was fine, it was okay she mentally assured herself.

"Do you want to talk about this? Do you want to enjoy the party or do you want to do something else?"

"H-he gets like this s-sometimes," she stammered as she let out a poor excuse for a half-hearted laugh that seemed out of place. It was of course forced. "Just--" She was trying to find a way of phrasing it that would make sense when lacking context she could not possibly provide. Her fingers would flatten down her hair, tucking a wisp she had discovered behind her ear.

"I saw a little of what was going on and heard some of what Vladimir said. I don't know the context in which he said it, or why he did what he did, but right now I am here for you."

"You heard that?" There was the inflection of a question, her teeth exposed in a somewhat nervous expression. She racked her brain to remember exactly what was said. "Yeah, about that..." her voice trailed off. He really did not remember them at all did he?

"If you want to enjoy the night and try to forget this, that is fine. If you want to talk and take your time, that is fine. If you want to do something else entirely, like just talk about quidditch that is fine. It is all your choice."

That was not how she expected him to take this conversation. Of course she was not particularly bright either. What choice did he have besides react with quiet sensitivity? With all these witnesses, a confrontation was out of the question. If she called out after Vladimir, he could still hear her. She believed he would come back. She was not wrong. But she could handle it, Vladimir did not know everything. She did not always need to place her faith in him and he was not always right. Alexander had been spending time with her without Vladimir's knowing for months and nothing bad had happened to her. His caution had only isolated her and Vic.

Who is the real idiot Vlad...

"You're... you're just so d-- nice," she was about to say different but caught herself to say nice. If he was up to something, he would have just tried to drag her off someplace but he did not. He did not the months leading up to the ball, he did not just now. "It is just... weird," she admitted. She was not used to people reacting like -- this. The sadness leaving her, she was feeling a bit better already.

"It is not worth ruining the evening over, really." She assured him. "You look," she legitimately smiled "great." Well, maybe a bit overdone (as feared) but it was the fun sort of overdone. 5 stars, should do again.

Nikita had managed to find a date to the ball. Or rather, he had found her. He had literally walked up to her and asked her to the ball. After talking she learned his name was Levi, and she had said yes, but only so Charles Alluring wouldn't tease her for not having a date, which she wouldn't hold above him. Of course, she could always punch him again, but it would just be easier to have a date in the first place.

She wasn't so sure about her dress. She kept looking it up and down in a mirror. Apparently, the ball was greek themed? Also maybe a little death-themed. She was starting to really worry about this school. By the looks of the posters, they should just call it the "certain death ball", and not even bother with the blossom. Finally deciding she didn't look horrifying in this dress, and that she could walk in these heels, she headed to... the underworld? She couldn't help but dramatically rolling her eyes. Seriously.

Death. Certain. Death. Ball. But... the darkness was actually nice. It made her feel relaxed? Strange. She walked in and stood there, feeling taller in her heels. She looked around for Levi.

Except Kaz, you'll make me cry
Ruka was pulled from his thoughts quickly at the approach of Winnie who greeted him cheerfully, like they were close friends. He offered her a smile and a wave, was about to say something in return, but before he could she had commented on his outfit, seemingly without realising that what she'd clearly meant as a compliment came across like a backhanded insult. Ruka blinked, tilted his head to the side and let out a small laugh. "Thanks, Winnie," he said genuinely, then nodding in acknowledgment of her own outfit. "Your dress is very nice. Extremely flowery." His eyes widened when she seemed to recognise his own lack of flowers which had been absolutely intentional after last year's disaster of a Ball, but it was too late and she had stuck one of her own flowers behind his ear. He didn't really have the heart to refuse it, so he just let her and offered her a smile and a nod in return. "Guess I was lacking the Blossom part of the Ball."

With a grin he lifted his drink at Winnie and was once again stopped by the approach of another girl he didn't actually know. Amelia, it seemed, knew Winnie which was excellent timing, because Ruka had spotted someone among the small crowd of arriving students who was certain to be getting himself into all kinds of trouble by doing dumb things like rubbing up against another student for likely no other reason but to annoy them.

"I'm... Ruka," he introduced himself a little absentmindedly but offered Amelia a small smile anyway. "If you'll just excuse me for a moment..." With a small gesture akin to a wave with the hand holding his glass, Ruka moved away from the two girls to instead approach his brother, shaking his head at The Great God Pan's antics. The boy who had fallen victim to them clearly wasn't appreciative of it, but Ruka was confident in assuming that Jack's intentions hadn't been to actually appeal to the other boy.

With a lopsided grin on his face, Ruka stepped closer just as yet another boy joined the group with the seeming intention of pestering Jack for his own amusement. "You sure know a lot of what he's been up to all week," Ruka said brightly, lifting his glass in the boy's direction before turning his attention to his brother for a moment. "You didn't tell me you had an admirer, Jack," he said, tone turning into something big brotherly. "What are you doing picking unwilling flowers when you've got someone willing to watch you talk to your own reflection all week long?" He chuckled brightly before mustering the boy in the roman outfit more critically.

"Nice costume by the way," he pointed out with a mockingly appreciative nod. "I thought they said all roads lead to Rome but it seems you managed to get lost anyway, that's quite the achievement."

Katerina was possibly staggered upon receiving an owl from her only son asking for handwritten instructions toward the creation of a flower crown. Nevertheless, Levi liked to think that surprise soon melted into pride, as he was at school, making friends, getting dates, “discovering himself”. In reality, he was only doing a few of those things, but that wasn’t something his mother needed to know.

Through most of his childhood, she’d worn them often. Taken Levi out into the small garden before the stone steps to their home and let him pick a few of the blossoms, holding the young boy in her arms as she weaved them together, feigning royalty from weeds. No matter when she wore it with those dazzling eyes, in the changing autumn, the dead of winter, the raining summer, it was always spring. It was always lively, the grass green and the trees full, the skies clear and the waters cool. Most of him thought this was something his mother carried in her heart. The rest of him knew it was just the will of the blooms.

Spring was shorter and shorter each year.

Several hundred flowers would die at the boy’s expense, and many hours would collapse like dominos, but for the cause of royalty, class, luxury. Turning eyes and holding them tight as though to pull them from skulls like unearned tongues. His personal creation of sovereigns from the queen of all, darling mother earth, made up one half of the star accessories that made the plain boy in the plaid pants into the beloved Levi Drakos. The other was a golden chain around his neck, the furthest from artificial it could be, holding a honeybee above his heart, where gifts from his mother truly belonged.

It was his belief that these accessories would tow the theme, heavy and complex. He’d loved it upon suggestion, felt at home in the words despite the reality tainted by myths he wished to believe, however, it was hard to fit. A toga was the obvious choice, and frankly, that would be embarrassing. Not only because Levi was no fraternity boy, but also because everyone else would expectedly come to the same conclusion. It was worse to blend in than to bleed out. So, the Gryffindor improvised, fought his own path through the shrubbery and came out in a yellow suit-jacket with plaid pants, glued together by gold and nature.

Overall, his dress of the evening was much more befitting of the Spring Festival than the Underworld through which he had to journey. Without a date yet at his side, there was something unsettling in the gazes of any onlookers, even if they were only looking past him at whatever interested them within the sapphire flames that lit the dim, solemn location. A voice was firm in the back of his mind, screaming something along the ever-thickening lines of loneliness and discontent, and the forlorn drawl of a ghostly orchestra did nothing to soothe the worry. It was like a burn, a burn only he could feel and see, behind clenched teeth shaped into a bizarre smile. And yet, echoing behind the voice, a soft whisper: any attention is better than none.

The lion lingered by the entrance, waiting for his date to wander through, dressed heroically and beautifully, though the two were one and the same. She wasn’t ideal. He had wanted someone to connect with, but that was a tie buried deep beneath truth and age, something he’d never felt even platonically. That was unfortunate, to be deemed dead before alive. Still, it was the only way to stand out in a crowd be in love or look it. He wouldn’t receive the former, so he chose his pretty pureblood in a desperate language. A moment of weakness to build to a moment of strength, for the end could justify the means if the end were an atmosphere unmatchable around a girl irreplaceable, a view not far from watching a constellation set into place.

Please tell me she’s wearing a nice dress.

As he stood there, wilting away in his worries, the boy’s hazel eyes scanned the room, admiring each partygoer and testing their decisions with the judgements he gave himself the right to have. A girl with reddish hair, wearing a precious lavender-grey dress, marveling at the flames as though she’d ruled them in another life. Another, with a spectacular braided updo. Another, a blonde wearing what was perhaps the most riveting pink gown he’d ever seen. A wonder something so special could fit the theme. Whoever her date was—good for him. A few boys had entered alongside, wearing fitting clothes and already launching into conversation, words he wished to hear if for nothing more than immoral curiosity. Levi would wait to follow suit; let those with no charm through first, let their victims hunger for charisma, then die when exposed.

Not literally, of course.

Damn it. There was one person he hadn’t wanted to see. Percival Gray and his copper hair, wearing one of the many outfits that were not only more suitable to theme, but absurd and inducing a cringe. Levi’s raw knuckles would be the first to admit that he was plagued by nerves, twitching hands and red marks, disheveled hair as a result of constantly combing it back with the tips of his shaking fingers. The taller boy’s presence worsened it, and those hands would never forgive him. Since that day, the outdoors hadn’t greeted him with quite the same comfort. How could he breathe when such knowledge was continually pounding his chest inward? Heart collapsing, lungs collapsing, eventually his body would sink to the ground, and he would become the very thing he despised.

And still, something he did not know. What if there was worse out here?

If his date didn’t arrive soon, he may just get bored scared enough to play with his food.

Being a student at Koldovstoretz, Anastasia had not attended any balls till this point, in which the young russian school was finally attending a Hogwarts event. The Blossom Ball was obviously the main event, the invitations had scattered the whole school. The first ones had been nice, and obviously it gave a greek-theme vibe, but the last ones had scared Anastasia truly. The illustrations, the words did give some Greek vibes to it, but really did greece have any not-scary stories at all? As far as the young russian knew, greek myths were pretty dark, thought they were also a bit fun to read.

Knowing that this was a ball, Ana had decided to dress up as Athena, the godess of wisdom, war, and strategy. There were many things that described Anastasia's favourite godess, but these were the first ones that came to mind when she thought about her. She was wearing a golden laurel crown, with a beige greek female dress, her brown hair a bit longer than usual. Beneath the dress that hided her feet were brown sandals that weren't that pretty, but did it really matter since they were going to remain unseen?

When it came to finding a date to the ball, it was already pretty obvious that she was going to go with her friend and fellow Quiddich player Luka, from her same school. While she had to reject a proposal to the party (@Aurora RanvierRodion Makarovich) she was pretty sure that who she had rejected deserved to stop having their own way for once, and that would teach them a lesson in the future. She just hoped that Rodion wasn't mad at her- well what did it matter, really. He deserved it and that was it, no harm done and Luka had asked her first.

Anastasia arrived at the "Underworld" as the music that it gave made her feel dark, and sorrowful- well, maybe not sorrowful, it was more like the feeling that she had felt when she had recieved the darkest invitation to the ball. Her hands started to sweat like they always did when she was nervous, so she decided to stay in the entrance of the Underworld, waiting for her date.
