Emmaline walked up to the Owlery, a letter waiting to be delivered inside her arms. She had never commonly taken a trip to the Owlery, she never really had any purpose to write to her friends. What was the point? Every student had been in the same building, you could have just walked down the ever-changing staircase to deliver to the message itself. Owls might have just stayed in the exact room waiting, or worst charged in the building frantically, looking for the subject.

She peered down at Hogwarts from the Tower, she relished the view. The sun had nearly set and a light breeze clicked off and on. It was an exhibition that could most likely appear in a romantical movie, possibly even in a drama. As the young girl stepped in, she was whammed with eyes, owl eyes. It couldn't have been graver for her.

They aren't alive, stop worrying, she mentally told herself. She despised being the center of attention, but she did have a yearning for acting, though when she acted it was generally with a few others. There were brown, white, and grey owls, all of which had their beady little eyes on her. She clutched the envelope in her hand but had almost dropped them from shaking a bit. If she was ever going to have a chance at being a good wizard, she'd have to let go of this frivolous fear.

Instead of binding the note on the leg of an owl, Emma had almost been knocked over by shock. She watched as a brown, patterned owl came swooping towards her. She noticed this owl, it was from her home, and that meant only one person could have sent this owl, her father. She stroked the feathers on the owl and reached over to give it a treat as compensation for bringing the letter, she didn't understand what for, though it felt accurate in the occasion.

The brunette forcefully ripped the profoundly sealed envelope, for it was the solitary way to open it. She unfolded it and saw the familiar writing of her father. She was both thankful and happy to see the writing.  Ash had been spread across the page making it slightly harder to read. The year was closely coming to an end and she hadn't received not one owl, not even on the initial day of her journey. What had been going on at her humble home?

The young girl drew her white-colored wand from her robes before reading the letter. "Lumos," she murmured. She watched as the tip of her wand turned as opalescent white color tinted with a bit of yellow, almost like a fairy light. She scanned the letter before truly reading it thoroughly. Something about oranges and iron jumped out to her, but she continued to read until she approached the end. She commenced reading again.
ᴇᴍᴍᴀʟɪɴᴇ ʟᴏᴜɪꜱᴇ ʜɪʟʟ,

Her mouth opened slightly, her question had indeed been answered, but it was nothing like she had expected. After all, she had known her father did crazy stunts with dragons like riding them and collecting their personal belongings. She had some researching to do, Opaleyes and Ironbellies? She presumed that those were some species of dragon.

The Ravenclaw rolled her eyes as she detached the petite plastic bag stuffed with at least ten multi-colored spheres. She was still going to give one to a friend, they wouldn't do any permanent damage, well, she didn't think so at least. She couldn't blame him though. The circular treats look delectable, there was no way a Muggle could be able to detect the difference an exploding surprise and appetizing treat. She put the treats in her pocket for safekeeping.

How was it possible that they had already found out her grades? Was there some sort of semester report sent to her parents? Had they found out about her failing grades in Herbology? She continued to read in her head.

Emma recalled everything she had learned, but still, nothing came to mind. She felt the same annoyed and disappointed feeling, she couldn't figure it out, and it had been driving her mad. Another task to do in her second year, more research. She had already felt constrained by her image in the Mirror of Erised, afterward, she had discovered the true meaning of the mirror. Was every problem somehow related to the library itself?

What could cause such a thing? Orange and slimy? The brunette thought to herself, it certainly didn't sound like the normal, crystal blue water. She dropped her wand to her side, though it stayed lit. As she looked up from the letter the familiarly of owl eyes hit her. She looked back down to the letter and reread it just to make sure she hadn't left out anything important.

She raised her wand to her chest and light pours on to her face. "Nox," she whispered under her breath and watched as the wand's light magically dimmed itself into nonexistent. She thrusted her wand into the pocket of her Ravenclaw robes and sighed angrily.

The brunette was overwhelmed by her emotions. She had no home to go to now, would Hogwarts become her permanent home? She rammed her hand into her pocket and grabbed the small colorful plastic bag of Exploding Bonbons. She couldn't see herself eating the candies on a regular basis, but she needed something to take her mind off the burdening news she had just received.

As she put the candy in her mouth she had wandering thoughts: What if the situation becomes worse? Where are we going to live? Why is my dad hurting himself, it is his job after all, but still? If she had asthma, she'd be having an attack. It was possibly just a panic attack, she had those often when she overthought things. This was something more, it was on a personal level.

Emmaline paced over the Owlery, owls following her every move. She didn't care, or even notice the scene she was creating. Was she going to send something back, or perhaps just have some time to think it over? Would she dare risk getting another mindboggling letter that was sure to send her into a deeper spiral? She had to, she needed to.

She was already threatened by enemies and homework, but this outnumbered it all. It was the worst thing that could have happened during the year, and it was pretty much over with. Way to end things on a sour note, dad. She thought to herself swallowing her tears just in case someone had walked in on her. At this thought, she stopped walking around, though she continued to sport the same angry look on her face.

Soon, her face switched to surprised. The small candy she put into her mouth had exploded, would it stain her mouth? It was almost like an edible giant paintball that was on the verge of disappearing into nothing. She needed to get to a mirror, but worst, she needed to write back to her parents that she had at least received the letter.

It can wait till tomorrow, it's not that important, one side argued with her while the other continued to bicker with the other. Are you mad? You need to write the letter now! Was this the angel and the devil arguing or perhaps her ability to overthink every single situation. C'mon, the sun has almost gone down, you've got to get back to the common room before points are deducted from you. She had to admit, the sun was almost being the horizon. She had no choice.

Emmaline ran down the stairs and ran to the Ravenclaw Common Room. I've got a lot of writing to do tonight. She thought to herself as she sat a piece of parchment on her four-poster bed. She also threw a slightly wet quill into her bed, followed by a bottle of tightly sealed ink. Hopefully, she wasn't the one responsible for doing her own laundry.

I really hope you're okay guys, I need a home to return to... You can fix this... even though you didn't do it. That was excellent, she was going to insert that in her owl. Instead, she threw off her robe and hopped underneath her blanket.

The next day slowly came as Emmaline trailed to the Owlery a piece of parchment and a quill inside of her palms, carrying her burdensome bag on her back. She preferred writing her letters on the stairs, despite the ongoing few that walked up to deliver their own. The view was stellar. The sun peaked its emissions of light through the flowing clouds perched onto the sky.

As her shoes clicked with the ground she thought to herself, though it was more of speaking. The incident has officially driven her demented.  "What if the situation had gotten worse? What if I never receive another owl again?" She cut herself off before she could demoralize herself to a greater extent, though the thought had been planted in the back of her mind. They could have been dead and she wouldn't have known.

She had decided to skip breakfast, it usually put her into a slow daze after all, though this day, she could have used it the additional advance of eggs and bacon. The following class didn't make it better, despite it being her favorite, but not even the lecture would get her vouch. Undeviatingly after breakfast, she had to attend Transfiguration, she wondered if she could just skip the class. The night had granted her a few hours of broken sleep, if not any. She had resorted to reading numerous times, but not even a simplistic book could captivate her mind in bed.

Despite the morning sky, she watched owls flying across the sky. It would be rare to find a blinding white owl soaring in the sky in London, well, unless if you counted the bombarding of owls involving the famed Harry Potter.

It had taken a while before she had started to write. Was it going to be formal or nonformal? He is my dad, after all, I guess nonformal will do. She began to start off her message, though with every letter it seemed as if she had been writing the wrong thing. She pushed down her quill harder than she had ever as she started to write.
𝓗𝓮𝔂 𝓓𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓓𝓪𝓭,
That was surely wrong, once more she dipped her quill into the black ink and began to scribble out the word 'hey'. She tickled her cheek with the black feather and stared at it for a moment, wondering why it couldn't write by itself.

Why can't we use pens inside of Hogwarts, it has never actually been done before, has it? It's not like they're a hazard to wizards or anything. Well, they don't have some form of a chip like a cell phone would. She believed quills to be an absolute waste of time, and what if they had bent? It made it even more tedious you had to buy ink that never generally came with it. How very different the Muggle world was from the Wizarding world.

The brunette continued to write, though everything in her mind seemed to fade on the parchment. It was hard knowing that her parents could have been on the verge of meeting their last fate. She swallowed her tears and continued, parchment was extremely well at soaking up tiny liquids, that she knew for a fact. At least it had been stronger than paper.

She peeked her head in the Owlery and spotted the same familiar brown owl, Twister, waiting for her arrival, she felt slightly bad for leaving him there overnight. The name was rather odd, but it had stuck. She remembered picked the owl and watching it soar around Diagon Alley when she had been a mere toddler. The owl had been rather playful and full of excitement, and he still was to this day.

That was a lie, but it wasn't like her parents could detect one. She had not tried to start the letter, more or less, threw a piece of parchment on her bed to remind her. Did she actually need reminding, she didn't hope, nor think so.

Her letter continued, though afraid of what she might have written on the parchment. She persevered through it and thought about her words before she transferred them. Thinking had never actually been so hard for her, this was another form of mental thinking. I never asked how they were doing, did I? I don't think so, I'll put that down.

That was an odd amount of questions to be asked. Not only was she paranoid, but she had been confused. Emma undoubtfully didn't want to depart from Hogwarts, despite her urge to go to Beauxbatons in the beginning. She wanted to come home, but what home remained?

Her mind had been set, she was going to leave Hogwarts if she had to. Even though she might have been missing the chance to befriend more students, it was nothing compared to losing the ones closest to her. Family was always first in her book.

After signing her name, she placed a palm on the ground to push herself up. Emma folded her letter, though no envelope was brought with her. Instead, she rolled up her letter, it was the best she could do. She walked into the Owlery to find the brown, big-eyed tawny owl. Naturally, the owl held out it right leg so that she could bind the note to him.

Before doing that, she decided to open the note and sit in the owlery to scribble one last sentence to conclude her letter. Who still writes letters? Apparently wizards. She thought to herself as she scribbled in her message. Owl eyes continuing to stare down at her, though this time she was less bothered by it. It still lingered inside the back of her head.
𝓟.𝓢. 𝓢𝓸𝓻𝓻𝔂 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓻𝓸𝓵𝓵𝓮𝓭 𝓾𝓹 𝓵𝓮𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻, 𝓘 𝓭𝓲𝓭𝓷'𝓽 𝓫𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓪𝓷 𝓮𝓷𝓿𝓮𝓵𝓸𝓹𝓮 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓶𝓮 𝓽𝓸 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓞𝔀𝓵𝓮𝓻𝔂.
Once again, she rolled up the note, this time binding it to the leg of her family's owl. She sighed as she looked at the owl before giving it a meadow voles, it was surely dead. At least no blood had been involved, she did not fancy seeing blood.

"Go return this back to my father, see you later, I hope,"
the Ravenclaw said to the owl. If there was a spell that turned animal thoughts into words, she'd surely be using it. As the owl took flight, she watched it glide out of the window and into the baby blue sky. That letter better not fall off.. I hope.

The next morning passed with no owl, so she reluctantly went to class, followed by the next day, no response to her owl. Emma wouldn't go a day without checking the Owlery, waiting for the return of her brown tawny owl, Twister. It was torture for her to wait, she was so impatient when it came to the littlest of things. Her family could have been dead, but she wouldn't believe that. She couldn't believe that.

Day three had arrived, still, no owl had come to relieve her nerves. She trudged her weight down the stairs willing to accept facts, maybe it was true. If this was some form of a sick prank, it was definitely tugging at her heartstrings. Wasn't the saying: Third time's a charm? It certainly wasn't on this occasion, she left the Owlery demoralized.

As the sun rose again for the fourth time, she made her way up to the Owlery. The clicking of the stairs filled her ears, though this time, it was quite annoying to her. She looked around once around the Owlery, her owl was nowhere to be seen. Maybe he just can't get to a good spot to write back, yeah that's it. He'll write soon, I ju- That's him!

Beaming with a heavy smile, she ran over to the window of the Owlery. Even though the letter could have been filled with horrendous information, she was still happy to get a response. She took a step to the side to allow her family's owl to fly in through the window, almost like a puppy at a door. As the owl landed she ran over to it and untied the message from either her mother or father. Who knew her mother had been so fond of animals?

Freeing the note from its envelope, she ran to the door and looked down the stairs to ensure no one had been coming. Walking back into Owlery, the letter in one hand, the torn envelope in the other. She began to read the message quietly to herself.

The brunette was extremely happy to hear that everyone was going to be okay. She liked the idea of a new house, frankly, during the summertime, she couldn't go a day without hearing an obnoxious television from her next door neighbor. She was jovial to get away from the diminutive house that was more of an apartment.

She didn't want to read the whole historic house gist, so she decided to skip over it. I'll come back and read it later, hopefully, something interesting is actually inside of it. Continuing to read out loud, she began to pace around the confined room.

She beamed happily, she was going to getting a new house. It had been strange to keep a bottle of ink inside of her robes, but as she reached for it, she felt nothing but air. Had she not brought her quill either? She could have sworn she hadn't gotten the requirements for writing a letter and dropped them into her robe pockets. How on earth was she going to write her letter now?

I'll just write tomorrow, Emma thought to herself, sighing sadly, though she was extremely happy to be receiving a new house. She waved her owl goodbye, sealed the note and put it into her robe pocket for safekeeping.

What seemed like forever, the next day slowly approached, and this time she had been prepared. Apparating would have have been a lot easier than walking down the stairs repeatedly, it was driving her crazy. Step after step, her sneakers collided with the stone stairs to the Owlery. She loved the sound of her steps on the stairs despite her hatred to walk them.

The previous days had given her frankly no luck with her brown family owl, known as Twister. She prayed and prayed to hope that the owl had been waiting for her arrival inside of the stone Owlery. There were at least a hundred owls in the Owlery, but she had not doubted that some of them had indeed looked the same.

Not only did the owl had a token of remembrance on to him, the owl was tiny. Smaller than most of the others for sure, so pointing out the small flying creature was practically a breeze for her. She was starting to love her trips to the Owlery: the scenic view, the same sound of snapping beaks, the show of Hogwarts students on their break. It was all too good to be true.

As her feet collided with the panel below the Owlery entrance, she gave one last sigh and crossed her fingers for once more good luck. What she wouldn't do for a bottle of that golden Felix Felicis. Liquid luck sounded appetizing about now...

Her eyes scanned the confined room for a miniature brown owl. She had begged her father for a snowy owl, after all, they were as white as the snow itself, the color gave her a pleasant feeling inside. The young girl was growing rather fond of the brown tawny owl. He had delivered the good and the bad, and more importantly, companionship whilst in her home located inside of London. Then, a thought caressed her mind, she was getting a new house.

Surely it was going to be a real house, not just some apartment with little privacy. A big house, like the ones she had seen only in the movies. Houses as big as the school of Hogwarts itself, a castle, that was surely going to be her next home. In her current establishment, it was quite easy to stare into the apartment directly across from you. Curtains were even a requirement from the landlord herself.

Scanning from owl to owl, it seemed that crossing her fingers had only brought her worst luck than before. Quickly uncrossing them, she sighed once more. She didn't care if she had to wait or not. She'd wait hours if she had to without a doubt in her mind. She paced around the owlery waiting for the arrival of her owl, both worried and curious, and even partially ecstatic. That letter could have been filled with the good, bad, or terrible. She didn't mind though, she needed to know what the letter contained. She had a responsibility to know.

Emma had no clue what to do, she had hours to go before her first class, Potions. She dreaded the subject, and not because of her poor grade. Every single potion had the ability to be turned into a single spell, that took only about a couple of weeks to learn or possibly even master. She only had four classes today, and a lot of breaks in between, but if she wanted to break yet another rule, she would have done it already. She had nothing to amuse herself, just her wand and twenty spells she could properly perform without making a blunder of herself in front of the owls. Why did the owls care? before curfew and her four-poster bed, the odds were against her. There was absolutely no spell she could perform a spell without attracting a swarm of fluttering owls.

Her feet clomped round and round the Owlery, her hands glued behind her back, anticipating her arrival of the letter. It was going to come, she just knew it. Then she gasped and kicked the wall, both angry at herself and surprised. Wasn't she supposed to write the letter in the first place? She recalled her thoughts and the letter she had previously received from her home back in eastern London. It was hard to admit that she had come to the Owlery unprepared. It was especially hard for her considering she had brought her supplies.

The brunette reached into her backpack after ripped it off her backpack furiously. This was the last letter she'd ever write, well, she hoped so. She took out her slightly bent quill and a piece of parchment and began to scribble away, ignoring all the eyes focused on to her small piece of parchment pressed onto the ground.

The Ravenclaw read throughout the whole letter and she scribbled it down and repeated the whole thing back in English. "I'm sorry I wasn't able to owl your...? No -" she said drawing a line through the last word and replacing it with another in Spanish. "Okay, sounds about right."

Either someone had used her owl, or it was back at her destroyed home. That was impossible, the owl had been sent to her and she had not sent it back. Maybe it was something owls did, it was possibly like a morning flight for owls. She mentally pointed to a random grey and approached it, nevertheless, it did make unbreakable eye contact with her.

Tying rolled up note to the owl's leg she waved goodbye to the owl as if it were her own and smiled. She was going to be getting a brand new, even better, private house. All to herself, well, and her family. She smiled as the grey owl took flight out the window into the morning sky. She had time to go to class, thank Merlin.
