Dear Basilisk Solo Closed

Maisy's hand trembled, as she stared down at the letter enclosed in her fist. It was five-hundred and fifty one words long. She knew this, because she had counted each word, sixteen times, since she'd arrived in the Owlery nearly an hour prior. Her hand had quaked when she wrote it, too, and the result was a messy, barely legible scrawl. But it was done... composed. And all she had to do was send it.

A tawny owl with a particularly full, round beak stared at her from his perch, and Maisy swallowed as she looked up, tear-filled eyes studying the magnificent bird, "I know what you're thinking..." She muttered softly, "And I don't want to. I really don't. But it's important... and Mum always says even when it's hard, doing what's right is never wrong..."

Eyes falling on the letter again, she shook her head, "It's not right, what they're trying to do, and this... this is the only way I can think to fix it. So... so you just behave and do your job."

The bird rolled his big mahogany brown eyes upwards in his head, peering at a spider, creeping closer and closer, and with a sigh, Maisy tied the string to it's ankle, "There now... Go on. Off with you." The owl nipped at her finger, before taking off and stepping back, Maisy rubbed a hand across her forehead, hoping against all odds that she had done the right thing...
