Narcissa Malfoy
@Sarah Lightwood @Cassandra Ironwoods @Ileen Knight @Piper Clark
If the Narcissa Malfoy Team managed to solve their third clue, it would lead them to the library. A rather clear instruction if one knew what the clue was referring to. Outside the door, the girls would find a sentence in latin: Non magnitudem creaturae, at magnitudem cordis pollet. Opeila had spent a bit of time to find a latin dictionary in the library and knew what it meant now: Not the size of the creature, but the size of the heart.
Honestly, if there was one good thing about the game, it was that all the participants would get to know some more details about the castle, or at least so the young Slytherin hoped. So... technically everyone was a winner in the end, all of them would contribute from it in some way.
If the Narcissa Malfoy team made it to the location, they would find a note- guess it- again attached to the door. Inside the Owlery it was too drafty, it could get blown away, besides there were some curious birds in there too.

The group was more running than walking through the halls. All the way from the Small Hall to the West Tower - well, that was a long way. The young Slytherin stopped as soon as they readed the entrance of the owlery and tried not to give away her exhaustion. Inconspicuously, she held her side, in which she felt a violent stinging, and stroked her hair out of her heated face with a trembling hand.
“Ha! Note!” She had noticed the note on the door and pointed at it, not in the shape to get more words out of her tortured lungs at the moment. Ileen wasn’t out of shape and she surely was athletic, but occasional stairs running didn’t count to her core strength. She trusted one of the others who was used to huge endurance effort - likely Cash - to pick the note, ignoring the noises from the birds inside.
Together, they gathered around their third clue.
Ileen bit her lower lip and frowned as she read the words over and over again. “Balls of glass? Downstairs? Are there some funny shaped balls in the potions classroom?” It was more a sarcastic joke and her legs already protested in anticipation of the many stairs they had to climb up or down. So much about that this wasn’t a physical challenge. Hmpf.
Still trying to catch her breath, Ileen leaned forward and had a closer look at the note. “The only glass balls I can think of are funny bottles, prophecies they store in the Ministry of Magic (her dad had told her about that) and crystal balls.” She wrinkled her nose. “Aren’t there crystal balls in the Divination Classroom? But that’s up, not down!”
The whole team was struggling with this part of the riddle. They couldn’t think of anything else than the crystal balls and they were stored in the North Tower and not downstairs. After some back and forth, Ileen shrugged. “Maybe it means that we have to go down all the way back before we can go back up to the North Tower. That would make sense. And I never tried it, but I am sure they will break if you throw them…”
One thing was sure: the team of the most sophisticated snakes was not sure where to go next. they had figured out the other clues quickly, but this one was giving them a hard time.
Ileen hoped that the other groups had to run up and down all the time as well. After a few more minutes, one of the girls pointed out that it might be a lie that they had to go down since that was the most confusing part of the riddle.
“Hm.” Ileen never had thought about it that way, but suddenly, all of it made sense. “Right!” Her face brightened up and she clapped her hands in enthusiasm, making some of the owls indignantly clattering their beaks and rustling with their wings.
“You guys are geniuses!” she declared fervently and nodded in agreement. “In this case, we are really looking for the shelves with the crystal balls in the divination classroom. But instead of going down, down, down, we will go up, up, up!” At her last sentence, the smile slipped a bit and gave way to a somewhat pained expression. So up the stairs again. Merlin, tomorrow she would have the sore muscles of her life.
Okay Knight, stop whining and get it together. Or do you want the other teams to beat you? Ileen was the kind of person who tried her best to not be the one holding back a team or group. That’s why she had worked so hard for dueling and spellcasting. She didn’t want to give anyone a reason to reject her or push her from the team.
They would all give their very best and win. A soft smile made a way to Ileen’s lips as the team ran back down the stairs they had just climbed. It was surprisingly effective and peaceful still. No other time attacking them or trying to sabotage… or at least not here. She still was quite sure there was a fair chance the other groups were fighting each other at this very moment instead of concentrating on their riddles.
Her eyes wandered back to her teammates and the smile deepened. It was nice tot get to know them better. Of course, they were sharing a dorm, but after all, they had barely ever interacted. In the retroperspective, that might have been a shame. They had so much potential.
