Letters - Winter Break Solo Closed

Dear Mom,

I know we spoke of the winter holidays at the beginning of the year and that I could come back to London if I wanted to but I think I would like to stay at the school. This break will give me a rare opportunity to work on my private studies using the library here, which I have not had as much opportunity to do. I am sure you and Father will be very busy over the break anyway and so I think this would work out well for all of us.

You know your Father and I will always make time for you, regardless of our work. That aside, we have been invited to a New Year celebration by the Beckett family. The hostess attends your school, do you know her? You will have to come to London for the event, as it would be politically unwise for us to decline. We can celebrate on the first together in a more traditional manner. If you are really set on staying at the school for the rest of the break, we will allow it. Is there anything you need us to send you?

Dear Mom,

Why do I have to go to this gala? Isn't it for adults? I'd much rather spend the night swimming with the squid than spend it meeting a bunch of self-absorbed pureblood adults who won't even notice I'm there. Anastasia Beckett is a third-year and as far as I've heard, the kind of person I have no interest in spending time with. Sounds like a grade-A bitch if the rumours are even half true. I understand that you need to go for the sake of politics but I'd prefer to stay here with the books.

Please send taiyaki. The elves aren't very good at making it. Also, I need some new journals.

This is not up for negotiation. You will be attending the gala with us. There will be other students from your school and possibly some of the other European schools as well. You may socialize with them. We have heard some interesting rumours about that family recently. Perhaps you will hear something among the children that I will not. I'll send you another care package. Try not to get into trouble during the break. I'd rather not receive any owls from your teachers.
