Elijah was a good son, and good sons wrote consistent letters home to their parents and siblings, perhaps even their grandparents if they were truly dedicated. Elijah did all of the above, and he had a feeling that the school owls were really beginning to hate him- even Calli, their family's owl, would give him glares as she delivered the three letters and two packages over the course of the week. He was close to his family, and the letters and care packages showed proof of it.
That nonchalant Friday evening, he held a grand total of four letters in his hands. One was, of course, addressed in elegant cursive to one Celestine Huang, and had a thin, narrow box accompanying it. Maybe a box of chocolates? A decorative quill? Random doodles and notes? None of the above, in fact. Encased in the box would be a dandelion made entirely out of paper. Model-making was, after all, one of Elijah's stronger talents.
The second letter was addressed to Charlie & Angel Huang- that would be his parents, and of course, it would contain details of his grades, his experience at Hogwarts, and just how many enemies he was making out of the students in attendance. Boring details would be spared, and opinions were kept well away from his writing, unlike his letter to his sister, which would be teeming with his opinions on her alma mater, and how he missed her so.
The last two letters would be given to bigger, stronger owls, and were addressed in Chinese. They would go to his grandparents, who held the expectation of at least a letter every two months detailing his life. He didn't understand why he had to write them when his sister hadn't, but he couldn't exactly complain. When the elders beckoned, you answered with a bowed head and a willing hand.
Slowly scaling the stairs leading to the Owlery, he rubbed his bandaged finger over the fiery scarlet wax seals on the two letters written entirely in Chinese. It had been the first time he'd tried to use a wax seal, and it took him several tries and a burnt finger to get his surname, 黄, onto the envelopes. His grandparents would appreciate the sentiment, however, and he knew that it would pay off in the end.
As he entered the Owlery, his nose automatically crinkled in disgust at the pungent fragrance that hung over the room. Apparently, while the wizarding world could create floating candles and magical plates, they couldn't afford to invest in a simple air freshener for the Owlery.
There was another student there as well, a prettily built Hufflepuff, but he paid her no mind. She was probably in here for the same reason he was, to send a letter. Head arced toward the rafters, his eyes scanned the owls for one that seemed sturdy enough to make it to China and back. "Come on..." he murmured under his breath, stepping backward and knocking skulls with the aforementioned Hufflepuff.
With a sharp intake of breath, Elijah winced, nearly dropping his letters. "Goodness," he gasped, whirling sharply on his heel to face the girl. "My sincerest apologies, I wasn't watching where I was going... are you quite alright, Miss?"

Thea entered the owlery, a bit sad, as always when she had to write or send letters. She didn't love the activity, especially when it came to visiting the owlery - the foul smell was horrible, and both she and her sister had a phobia of birds, so visiting this place was torture. She'd usually try to get out as soon as she could, but really, she couldn't escape having to use this place as her mother was... quite protective, so she needed letters, at least once a month, and the more the better.
She looked down at the two letters in her hand - one to her mother or just parents in general, and one to her sister, although the second one wasn't much of a letter - they were drawings she'd make for her sister, well, pretty much every day, as she required letters from Thea as well. She sighed and looked up at the owls, although pretty much immediately after her attention was caught by the old staircase screeching and a boy entering. The girl looked at him for a split second before getting back to the owls, trying to not run away from all the birds despite her knees trembling.
The Hufflepuff sighed again, trying to be as quiet as possible, and while trying to walk up to one of the owls, something hit her in the back of the head, making her tense up and drop both the letters, as well as causing some parchment that she hid in the pockets of her robe fly out, one even flying out.
"No świetnie, na brodę Merlina," the girl sighed, slightly laughing and starting to fiddle with her fingers as she looked out the small window of the owlery, seeing one of her drawings fly away onto the grounds, dangerously close to the Great Lake. She turned to the boy with a rather uncanny expression, still nervous. "This is just great," she said with a little bit too much sarcasm in her voice, starting to pick her letters and drawings up one by one.

The language flowing out of the girl's mouth was unfamiliar to him, which was a strange feeling. He was accustomed to being able to distinguish Spanish from Portuguese, guessing at words' meanings in languages with roots in the Latin language, but this... this was different. If he were to break her words down further, he'd find that they were of a European language- no Asian languages had sounds like that, strung together like that.
Staring at the girl he had bumped into inquisitively for the briefest of moments, he let his gaze flutter to the ground, examining the various pieces of parchment littering the floor with mild interest. Her face was young, eyes lined with thick and dark lashes that would look more at home on a doe than a human. Her skin was closer to alabaster than to honey, and her hair a golden caramel. All in all, definitely of European descent.
"Oh, goodness me," he said mildly, an expression of amusement flickering across his face. It seemed that he was simply laughing at the situation even if there was nothing much to laugh at. He somewhat resembled one of those grandparents you'd see tucked away in nursing homes, growing old with dementia and barely remembering the faces of their children. His manner was that of an old grandmotherly figure, slightly dotty and entirely docile- altogether, not a bad look on him.
"Pardon me- I didn't see you there." Bending down, he picked up the two envelopes, presumably containing letters, and attempted to snatch a smaller piece of parchment out of the air as it drifted out the window. His expression darkened for the briefest of moments before he handed the two envelopes back to the Hufflepuff.
"I apologise for bumping into you- are you quite alright?" He was, of course, asking merely out of obligated niceties, not out of actual concern. He barely knew this girl after all- why on earth should he care about what happened to her? True, he had accidentally caused one of her pieces of parchment to fly out the window, but that wasn't much of a big deal. If it was important to her, he would, of course, offer to go outside and retrieve it- if it was important to her, surely, she would have stowed it away in a much more secure place.
Waving one of the owls down from the rafters, he affixed the letter to his parents and the letter to his sister to its leg and set the box on the sill for the owl to pick up and swoop away in its clutches. The owl would soon merely become a faint figure in the distance, on its way to the heart of Belgravia. "Did you need an owl, Miss?" he asked, turning back to the Hufflepuff. The least he could do was offer to try and coax one of those bloody owls down for her.
Sometimes, you just have to play the role of a fool to fool the fool who thinks they're fooling you.
