Dear Headmaster

It is difficult to recollect a summertide season with as many warm, pleasant days as the one we have enjoyed in New England these past few months. While the downsides of multitudinous number of robin-egg blue skies are thirsty lawns and dried out creeks, I know that the youngsters at Ilvermorny had an excellent summer season. It is my hope that all Hogwarts students and their families enjoyed the opportunity for an especially active and vibrant summer where they were able to take full advantage of this unusually fine weather that i can only hope that you shared.

Reminding us that all good things must come to an end, the with August the days have grown shorter and the nights cooler as fall fast approaches. This seasonal change marks for my school children the start of a new academic year. While autumn does not officially arrive for a few more weeks, the quixotic notion of summer has already ended in the northeast.

Sad as many of my students naturally were to leave their jaunty, insouciant summer lives, returning Ilvermorny students can once again rollick within the safety of Ilvermorny's walls with their wizard-peers and collectively bring an energy to our campus which rivals the solar power that our sunny summer days generated. There is something of a comfort I must express knowing that my students are within the safe company of magical peers.

I have been following your school, the increase in your admissions over the past two years has been notable. I had no idea that there were so many children of an appropriate magical heritage within the reach of your school. Our numbers have remained for the most part, in contrast, consistent. With Ilvermorny classrooms, fields, and other facilities prepared and waiting, and our faculty and staff met with 32 Ilvermorny boys and 37 Ilvermorny girls with a special welcome to the 12 newly enrolled first-year students. I am saddened that our sorting ceremonies occur concurrently because I would have loved to see the sorting hat I have heard so much about muse about the fate and potential of its bearers  and as a renowned magizoologist you might have been charmed by our unique sorting ceremony as well.

As you well know my letters tend to be verbose, including this current communication, and hazard to become more a short story, by virtue of length and range of topics, than a more succinct letter focused on one topic or matter. However, this time I did have a purpose in reaching out to you, I wish to make a proposal to you and your students. To narrow the gap between our schools, Ilvermorny being an echo of Hogwarts thousands of kilometers away, I wish to extend the offer of a penpal opportunity to our respective student bodies. I feel that there is much that our students and school can learn from Hogwarts and that your students might benefit from interacting with distant wizards and make some new friends.

In anticipation of your agreement, I have already instructed interested Ilvermorny students, i am afraid many might be love-lorn young boys, to write their letters so that they may be disseminated to your student body over the next few weeks.

Kind Regards;

Lazarus Plott
