Happy Father's Day
Sunday, June 20 2021 Banner made by Winnie Harper
Do people still write letters to those who are gone? Would there be a way to contact them once more? Was the afterlife truly exist or was it merely a myth Aurora tried so hard to believe in? Maybe someday she will learn about it from magic perspective. But surely not today. She took her notebook and pen, tore two pages, and began to write a letter opening. Firstly, she wrote it to her step father, because she would feel bad for never wrote him one ever since he came into her life. With a little reluctance, her hand began to scribble some words onto the paper.
Happy father’s day Josh. Or, step dad, I guess? Thanks for keeping up with my nonsense
Nonsense? Of course, Aurora will not admit that she was constantly seeking for reasons to hate him when there was none.
Not that I am nonsense. But whatever.
She took one of her chocolate frogs from her trunk and put it beside the letter, then continued to write some closing sentences
Here’s a chocolate. Eat it fast because the frog will jump, don’t eat it in front of your fellow muggles.
The letter ended with her not so pretty signature, she tried to make it pretty, but her handwriting was the equivalent of chicken scratches. She then folded the letter into an envelop shape, put some washi tape on top and wrote her home address on the backside of the paper. Not forgetting the chocolate frog, she tied them together with a blue ribbon.
Writing a letter to her biological father was the hardest thing that she ever did. Even though she wrote tons of it since May, she was still struggling to act though. Constantly hiding from people just because she knew she would break down each time. Her eyes stared at the blank paper with so many thoughts danced around in her head, but none of them can be put into words. But she needed to do it quickly before the other walk into the dorm room and start questioning her why she weeps in tears. To calm herself up, she took a deep breath a couple of times
Happy father’s day, to my dearest father! Thank you for making my life colourful even though you were only around for two and a half years of my life
From inside her pencil case, there was a photograph of her and her father when she was little, almost a decade ago. She felt a single drop of grief welled up from the corner of her eyes. But Aurora will continue to write as she tried to steady her breathing and bit the inside of her mouth.
I still got the polaroid picture that grandpère took on my second birthday, if I knew that was my last birthday with you, I-
Once the first tear fell, the rest just followed like a stream. Her hand abandoned the pen so she could muffle her cries. Though, it didn’t give much help to the overwhelming tight feeling on her chest. Yes, it happened a long time ago, but she never really talk about it with anyone, not her mom, not Naomi, no one. Maybe it was these build up feelings of grief that locked up inside for years that made her not be able to get to the acceptance stage.
I just wish I did a proper goodbye.
Aurora folded the letter, like what she did to the one for Josh, but instead of bringing it to the owlery, she put it inside a box with the rest of the unopened letters addressed to the light.
