In regards to your invitation to your birthday party, I am regretfully declining. Naturally I wish you all the joy the day could possibly supply, in no small part because of the efforts you went to to make my own birthday special. It is because I want you to enjoy yourself that I feel it is inappropriate for me to come.

If I am being honest, I am starting to feel like I have no place in large groups, and little to do at parties. If you need me for a specific task then by all means please call upon me, but if you were hoping to have fun, I do not believe I can help you.

Once again I will offer to treat you to a birthday date at a time of your choosing, as I am useless to you in a crowd. I don't mean to ask for your pity, I only want to explain myself since I expect you intend to continue to invite me to large events unless I tell you otherwise. I still deeply appreciate that you thought of me.

I hope my gift finds you well, but please feel no obligation to wear it if it does not suit you.
