Letters - Faustian Troubles Finished

Dear Mom and Dad,

I have a very important request. I have come across a problem that I am unable to overcome without help. I have met a boy here who is in trouble. He is Japanese but his family is strange. They changed their name at some point and now choose to go by an English name. His name is Selim Faust, he is a second year, and I can't be sure as I have no proof, only my observations of his behaviour but I think his family is abusive.

The professors here seem to be content ignoring the issue. I suspect his family must have some status or power that keeps them from interceding? Selim avoids adults which doesn't help. He suffers from insomnia, possibly partially self-inflicted out of fear as I recently learned he may suffer from nightmares and sleep paralysis. I can't confirm because we are in different dorms but a recent incident in which I tried to help him led to some revelations. It may also have worsened his condition.

Is it possible for you to look into his family? Find out who they are and what, if anything, can be done to help Selim?

Sincerely,

Kazuo
My Little Fox,

I am very proud of you. Your father is already looking into it and we will let you know what we find out but it will take some time. It appears these Fausts have gone to great trouble to cover up their history. I may have to call in some favours back home but don't worry too much, we will find a way to help your friend.

In the meantime, is there nothing the school can do for him? Are there no supports for children's health? I had been told that they had medical staff on campus, is that not the case? Do I need to contact the Headmaster? It would be extremely irresponsible for a school of magic to not have the proper medical staff present.

Is there anything else you need? Either for you or your friend? Do not hesitate to ask.

Love,

Mom

P.S. Your father wanted me to add that he found a new book for you. I'll send it along with the letter.
Dear Mom,

The school has a fully staffed hospital wing. Physical injuries are not really the problem. They do not have any kind of counselling staff to help with mental health. Which seems to be what Selim needs the most right now.

The Caretaker recently offered himself up to us students as an unofficial counsellor but I don't think he is an actual professional therapist. He might be fine for other students to talk to but I know Selim needs more help.

I applied to join the duelling team for my House. Could you please visit Diagon Alley and buy me a wand sheath? Preferably one that sits on my forearm?

Tell Dad that the book is great. I will send him a letter once I'm done reading it.

Sincerely,

Kazuo
My Little Fox,

I understand. That does not sound like an ideal situation. You mentioned that your friend avoids adults so I presume that he won't visit this Caretaker turned counsellor on his own? If possible, try to get your friend to open up to you. Sometimes simply having a friend to talk to can help. Do your best, we will do what we can.

I will see what I can find for a holster but isn’t your wand too long for an arm sheath? Something connected to your belt or thigh might be better, at least until you are older? I will send both and you can tell me which works best.

Love,

Mom

Don't confuse my attitude with my personality. My personality is who I am; my attitude depends on who you are.
