In Search of the Source of the Creeping Darkness
Where has Kaegen Deathmore been?Permission obtained from Kaegen Deathmote.
This is a Main Story thread for the Slytherin Cup winners plus top three earners: @Henry Llewellyn, @Piper Clark and @Evelynn Decipio.
The infamous Ravenclaw deathwitch hunter. The source of more misery and dismay in this school than he might have been worth. The notion of death witches had crept into the mind of this mentally ill youth who insisted that a dark, nebulous force had overtaken the castle. He saw monsters where there were none, threats where there was safety and enemies where there were friends and concerned peers. His mental frailty had manifested itself in a number of ways, seen from the sickly, unkept appearance even for a dhampir.
Kaegan was neither a lover or a fighter, he hid.
He found himself a dark, cool corner. It felt lonesome, destitute and strange, somehow a lot like 'home.' His home any case. A hidey hole, a trio of large square stones along the base of a forgotten cell in the dungeons. Enough to crawl inside, feel the comforting embrace of safe, unyielding stone.
He of course had to be troubled with meandering from his hiding place, one must never stay in one spot for too long. They would find him eventually. So, he found other hiding places as well. Pits he had dug with his own claws in on the grounds, like pockmarks hidden beneath a veil of brush. Surely a careless foot had stepped within a few, but for the most part these places had remained undiscovered. He also needed to observe, from above. For the most part people looked at what was directly in front of them, they never looked up. up to see Kaegen sitting there, perched on an iron arm of a great candelabra. There were suspicious activities ongoing, several Professors had gotten replaced these past few months. The death witches had surely fortified their ranks.
It was a good thing Kaegen had decided to hide.
__________________________
However, like most things, this good thing would have to come to an end.
While Kaegen was quiet, there were some with incredible powers of observation. They had noticed that a bust was turned the wrong way (it was watching Kaegen), that there were empty phials on an otherwise clean floors (a boy has to eat), and there were sounds, distinct whispers sometimes heard in the dark (the best company one can keep is with themselves).
There was no way for Kaegen to know that Slytherin, plus a few others who unintentionally stumbled upon the jumbled search, would have honed in on Kaegan's interim quarters. Kaegen would be chasing a phantom of his own, having abandoned his homestead. Some of these shadows simply moved wrong. He was being watched or pursued, impossible to know for certain, the one thing he did know was that the living darkness was a peril that could not be allowed to reproduce.
Deeper into the dungeons Kaegen went.
Enter the curious, self-destructive snakes. Lured by intuition, rumor and evidence that someone or something had been down this corridor.
This is an adventure thread with multiple directions. Use logic and luck to find your way through this mini dungeon adventure.
Guest appearance by @Kaegen Deathmote

Important Notes:
1.) Temperature: cool, this is sweater-wearing weather.
2.) Everyone starts at #1. You can travel to a room adjacent, the numbers will assist you in knowing your relative location. Please avoid metagaming knowing where others are or how much further a dungeon is.
3.) Just because you are in a room does not mean that you know everything passively. Interact with the room and observe. While Kaegen is mentally deranged, as you all well know there is more to this dungeon than an unhinged dhampir.
4.) Kaegen is somewhere in here but I will not be telling you were. Some of you may come upon him (that being a good thing may be up to perspective).
5.) Lighting: Dark, the dungeons are unlit, if there is illumination you will be notified of such in the moderation. Remember: while light makes it easier for you to see things, it also makes it easier for others to see you and more importantly... well, I am not going to warn you of that.
6.) Walls: Made of stone as well as a solid floor made of the same stone.
7.) Ceilings: 10 feet in height. Too low to comfortably ride a broom.
8.) Hall Diameter: Wide enough to walk 2 abreast, however both would be within the other's personal space. Akin to how close a couple is when holding hands.
Room 1:
Drawn by noises that could not be explained, the shuffling of feet, the scrape of cloth and the nonsensible murmur. The occasional abandoned bottle, contents sucked dry, cluttered the dusty floor. Those curious (and foolish enough) to explore the halls would find one particular hall that stood out. Perhaps it was the iron scent, reminiscent of blood. It would draw, dhampirs perhaps but not humans. There was something else. A discarded chair that was resting against the wall on its' side. A pair of chalk outlines, like those found at the scene of a murder.
Where the chair was, apparently upright.
Where the chair is, on its side presently.
A thick, crudely drawn arrow pointing downward with the statement in bold:
CONFIRMATION.
A trail of a white, powdery substance would snake down the hall, zig zagging, perhaps the maker burdened by the weight of a package would lead those that followed down a set of stone stairs that would descend for thirty feet. Those that arrived on the bottom floor would find only darkness. A room, larger than their dorms with pillars that they might find with their hands.
The white powder would continue on, however in the darkness it was easy to lose the trail.

Kaegen Dathmote was not a name she had heard in a long time, not a face she had seen even longer. He had been the original haunt of Hogwarts and someone that Santario had been trying to make a friend or an ally. She had assumed that he had run away; maybe he had lived out in the forests skirting around the hags, spiders, and other forest dwellers. Perhaps he had found a better life somewhere; that was what Santario had wished; he was a kid that deserved to find happiness even though she wasn’t sure he ever would. She did not expect that she would see him into a foray into the dungeons.Interacting| -

Noises, one would think that odd noises would induce a particular fear in Slytherins since it was noises that started the spiders last year. Was it becoming one of the captains on the duelling team that caused Santario to follow strange noises into the dungeons with no one at her side, or that she always seemed to surround herself with dangerous people and creatures that made her not afraid? It didn’t much matter; Santario venturing off by herself had never been out of the question, especially when the girl had a lot on her mind. “Man, it is chilly…” She whispered, barely audible as she wrapped her arms around herself. From what could be seen, Santario was just dressed in her school robes with a Slytherin scarf; underneath would be a long-sleeved, heather grey shirt, jeans, and grey converse.
Santario walked down the hall before finally coming to the first instance of chalk and chairs. Her brows furrowed as she walked over towards what could now be seen as chalk outlines, but that wasn’t the only thing of note.
CONFIRMATION
Something from the past tried to reach out to her. Something from someone who used to be close, as close as Kae could have been at the time. A boy who had taken a scarf from her and her first-year winter cloak. Her hand reached up and touched her scarf, but still, she did not fully remember. So much trauma had happened since then… Her eyes followed the chalk line into the darkness. She should turn back, get help, anyone, it didn’t matter. It could even have been that annoying as hell, Burnette. But what people should do and what they did were often the opposite. Instead, Santario drew her wand.
“Lumos.”
Assuming her wand lit up, she would start following the chalk into the darkness.
Action| Casting Lumos - if successful following the trail.

Rumours were going around the Slytherin common room about a particular name he hadn't heard for a very long time. Kaegen Deathmote had made a reappearance and was said to be residing somewhere deep and dark, a place where he couldn't easily be found. From that alone, it was obvious a boy of his tastes would be residing in the dungeons where the darkness would make him most at home. Percy wasn't even sure if it was his business to go find the creep down there, yet his reappearance was at a very strange timing. Chaos had been erupting recently around Hogwarts, and now the king of that very dynamic had come back? now that was worth going to investigate.
Percival, who dressed in his average black sweater and jeans rather quickly walked along the corridor towards the dungeons, adamant in getting to the bottom of this curious event. When he got to the entrance, there was no one else to be seen, other than him and the black hole below him. His eyes gazed down into the thick layer of darkness that lay ahead, before releasing an audible sigh of annoyance as he rolled up his sleeves and pulled the wand from his pocket "Of course he'd be down here, Kaegen probably thrives in this environment..." he grumbled to himself before beginning to lower himself down into the dark abyss.
Step by step he went down, and it wasn't long till something caught his eye. Under his feet was a line of chalk that went further into the dungeon, just about visible enough to see before it went out of view in the damp and cold corridor ahead. It seemed like something was trying to guide them somewhere, but without the use of light it was impossible to know where. As soon as he got to the bottom he raised his hand in the air and said in a clear tone "Lumos" in the hopes to give him guidance through the winding corridors of the dungeon. In his mind there was no turning back now, it was just him and the darkness...

In Search of the Source of the Creeping Darkness
There were a number of terrific rumors of a terrible, insidious presence here at Hogwarts. He had heard of it, legends mostly of course but even the most fantastical tale has some semblance of truth. It was purely an exercise in curiosity that excised the Slytherin from the cozy, cool comforts of the common room. He was not nearly clever enough to notice that something was wrong or amiss on his own, well cleverness was not the right word, he failed to notice the environmental oddities. A lack of information and experience with the terrors that lurk in these dungeons and the night terrors that they wrought.Mentions/Stalks: @Percival Gray
He would gently place his book, Thérèse Raquin face down on the velvet cushion of the sofa he occupied. Dormmate @Percival Gray piqued the boy's attention, not that he knew him well but he knew patterns and his departure failed to abide by his usual times. Or so Mathias silently remarked as he watched the near stranger depart so Mathias elected to pursue.
Curiosity can be a wonderful but also a dangerous thing. Learning too much about an upper classman might be something Mathias would fail to live to regret. He would amble down the hall, not particularly stealthy, had Hogwarts been a shinobi academy he would have been a failed learner. Mathias simply walked, two dozen paces behind Grey. What would he say if he was addressed? I was curious or something of similar tone he supposed. Snakes were not generally the clever sort, no offense intended of course.
He would find himself walking down a long, cold, narrow hall. The sort that is he extended his arms fully to either side as if he was going to take flight his fingertips would or at the very least nearly would brush against the moist, chilled stone walls. The further he got from the cozy fire, the more he lamented the common room, a distinct preference for creature comforts.
The chair, an oddity that he could hardly discern in the dim light that faded the further he escaped from civilization. Unfamiliar with muggle forensics, he would only notice and logically conclude that the markings shown the outline of a present position and perhaps former position of the chair. He would not have the cultural exposure to link 'death' and investigative efforts with the effort to mark, merely a childish graffiti. The term "Confirmation" however unsettled him, left his mostly empty stomach rumbling. He would fish his pockets, usually a bit of seed on his person, easy, portable protein. Sunflower seeds, unshelled.
The descent down the stairs, Percival was traveling deep. He wondered what drove him, what compelled him but he would not call out. Presumptive perhaps, Mathias would not draw his wand and attempt to cast the wand lighting charm. One of the others, he had heard the word whispered once... twice... perhaps more. Yes, there were others down here, drawn by the same strange imbalance.
It would be then he would speak up, a timid and small-sounding voice directed at the vaguely familiar face of Percival not that he knew the upper classman's name [could care less if you know his, he says it often enough]. "What are we doing down here?" a nervous laugher erupting from an uncertain mouth. This did not seem like a terrific idea. "Should I get a house elf or a Professor?" not a prefect, those are glorified students with badges of authority but no additional skill or power less what was socially provided. Their power over coffee cups was notable [Referencing a Quidditch incident in another thread] but he had an inkling the Slytherins already gathered were formidable in their own right.
Action: Make a comment nobody will heed more than likely. Poorly follow Percival.

In Search of the Source of the Creeping Darkness

A convenient pile of rubble, here and there, served as the homes to Kaegen Deathmote, key-master, hidden-one. He was still tossing around his names, he needed to find one that fit. He was not longer master of the castle of avarice. That was something locked away, held tight within his heart until he needed it. He was the warden of hatred, now, not it’s commander. It hadn’t taken him long to realize that although his walls were mighty, they only kept out the harmless. Anyone who truly posed a threat to him could walk right through, infiltrate the barricades forged by will alone, and sense exactly where he was.
“A fox’n’some mice
Oh that’d be nice
Said the sticky, tricky, chewing cloud…”
Spidery fingers tapped the little jars and vials that lined the floor, clearly meant to be in some neat arrangement, but it wasn’t clear what they were arranged by. The contents included everything from some liquids to what appeared to be a fistful of table bread jammed into a dusty mason jar. The ravenclaw was muttering to himself, ever so quietly, eventually settling on a blue jar that he placed into a pouch, tucked right up against his skin, hidden by loose folds of robes.
“...Claws’n some teeth
Oh blades’n a sheath...”
Dull, glassy, tired eyes shifted ever so slightly to the side, gaze settling on a little pebble that just happened to be sitting there. The ground was strewn with pebbles, it made sense for the stone to be there, if it wasn’t for the rubble there would hardly have been as much room for the dhampir to stay in. The eyes that seemed so lifeless and listless sharpened suddenly, narrowing to slits, focussing on the rock.
“...Or a pebble that’s just a little too loud.”
Kaegen crawled out from his little home, crouching and shifting almost unnaturally, approaching the pebble in question as though he was a matador approaching an especially ferocious bull. A sleeve went limp for just a second, reappearing in a flash armed with a small, wicked looking blade. His other hand pocked the stone, prompting the rest of his body to lurch backward like a startled cat. But no, no reaction from the rock. It took two more tries before he was confident enough to pick it up, only to drop it from a short distance to hear the little tick sound. Reaching for another pebble of roughly the same size, he proceeded to drop it in the same manner. tick.
No, false alarm. It was just a pebble. Kaegen’s head turned back towards his rubble-crafted tiny cavern, but paused. Just to be safe, he reached out, and turned the pebble 180 degrees. Now it couldn’t see him, he was safe from it’s prying eyes. But if it could see, he reasoned, then it would also stand to reason that it had already seen him. Yes, this place wasn’t safe. A swift piece of chalk marked the pebble with a white dot, and two X’s close together were scratched on to the stone floor. It only took him a few seconds after that to pull out his book, sketch the pebble, and write down his notes.
Suspicious pebble found. Same sound as other pebble located in vicinity. Too close to the same sound. Obviously trying too hard to blend in. Conclusion: A spy. Relocating to avoid further detection.
He furiously flipped a few pages, trying to find notes on the other places he could hide in the dungeon. Where had he heard sounds before, where did he feel as though he was being watched? (everywhere). Where could he go next? How much deeper before foraging became nigh impossible? Closing the book quietly, and stashing it back within his robes, the little ravenclaw corpse grabbed a nearby rope, and began to hoist. It wasn’t long before a sizeable boulder was dangling over the jars and rubble. The rope was concealed against the wall, ending in a tripwire that would ensure anyone who carelessly tried to pilfer his supplies would get their head caved in. Even if they managed to evade, the evidence would be destroyed.
“Try.”
Hatred oozed from what amounted to a declaration of war. He had spat the muted challenge at the stone from earlier, enough bile oozing from his tone to drop the temperature a degree or two, only for it to return to normal a moment after. He hadn’t really let his castle loose, he just hadn’t accounted for a leaky seal. Turning away quickly, Kaegen scampered off, headed for a safer section of dungeon. You had to do better than employ a try-hard pebble if you were going to pin down Kaegen Deathmote. Pebble-finder, Trap-maker.

Rumors. Piper had never approved of them nor participated in spreading them. However, dark whispers had made their way about Slytherin, passing from one student to the next. It was enough to make Piper shiver in both mystery, wonder...and a bit of fear as she bent a listening ear to the conversations around her. The name Kaegen Deathmote, after all, sounded ominous in and of itself (though Piper didn't recognize the name). The supposed location target of the rumors had been the dungeons. Needless to say, Piper hadn't found ease of sleep the last few nights. Tossing and turning, she had wondered whether to dismiss these things or to investigate. After all, her studies had to come first.
Piper wasn't one that most thought to notice. She was quiet, staying in the shadows, and most importantly, unseen. It had always been a part of who she was, and she quite honestly was proud of the sentiment. Not only because she was hopeless at social interaction, but because between interacting and silent observation, Piper had had a knack for the latter. It was how she was alert enough to hear the rumors without specifically speaking to anyone. Was it lonely in her shoes? Piper would say no.
The mystery had become too much. Piper was honestly scared out of her wits by this point. Was it the possibly worthless words of others? Of course not. The noises. In her dormitory, Piper and the other girls could distinctly hear scratching, scuffling sounds. Moaning and mumbling. Old, used bottles were found laying about, and Piper suspected either pranks by classmates or...other things too terrible to think about.
Something had drawn Piper here to this dungeon doorway. If asked, there wasn't a single way she could describe what it was. Something inside of her urged her to walk, telling her it was time to find out for herself what was really going on - she wasn't missing any classes, of course. She stopped short. By the doorway, a single chair laying on its side. A single word written: CONFIRMATION. Piper felt her heart rate increase. This felt dark. Confirmation? Confirmation of what? She pondered what it could possibly mean...and she saw the lines. A zigzagging, white line through the hall. Piper was intrigued, but had her reservations. Was she allowed back here?
She had no choice but to press on. Piper was closer to answers, to truth...or at least she hoped. When the line stopped at the door and wound down the stairs, however, Piper was ready to turn around. The darkness within the doorway looked thick and all-consuming - she couldn't see the bottom of the stairs. Piper had never been afraid of the dark per se, but she certainly hated this unsettling aura. She set herself on guard, clutching her wand with all the strength she had. The chalk led somewhere; Piper could feel it.
Piper descended the stairs slowly and carefully, taking her time. She would hate to fall on her face after following this far. As she approached the bottom of the stairs, she heard voices. Two people attempting "Lumos." It seemed that three people had walked inside judging by multiple voices, though it was too dark to really see. Piper wondered why they had showed up when she did, but perhaps it was that inexplicable feeling that she had felt - now was not the time to question. The echo ran horizontally, and Piper didn't know if she had ever been this jumpy. But first she thought she should try her own charm; she had performed it many times and it wouldn't do to go off of others' light. "Lumos." If the charm succeeded, Piper would attempt to look around her for a clue of what was going on.

In Search of the Source of the Creeping Darkness
"In the shadows, a demon creeps, never weeping, never sleeping. He lurks in the darkness of forgotten tunnels, mind withering away, waiting to crumble. Known by the world nevermore."
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ ||~♟~|| ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
Selim was standing at the beginning of a labyrinth tucked away in the dungeons. Honestly, forgotten areas of the dungeons weren't uncommon, Selim had taversed many areas that seemed untouched, but something had caught his attention,
If there were whispers that were actually real heard in the dark, then Selim wouldn't've noticed, he hears whispers on a daily basis. They creep up his spine and tickle his ear with voices promising one thing or another (usually something terrible). It was normal for the unstable youth, especially after that event in the astronomy tower.
His mind had become abuzz with unsettled sanity. Sure, he was likely more coherent than the youth creeping around the dungeons like a demented scarecrow at that moment, thinking pebbles are spies, but he was definitely mentally degrading more the longer he stayed in this cursed castle.
The Cruel One was now a constant companion, whispering to Selim, and the boy had begun to answer, as if the Cruel One was real.
At this rate, he saw the voice as a friend, like the imaginary friends people had in childhood.
"It's dark here, like 'That Place'. You're not going to last long, not with how loud 'The Sounds' are getting. Besides, the shadows look hungry tonight."
"Maybe." he tilted his head, responding out loud like the voice sounded. "But I know you're curious about this, Akuryō"
Akuryō meant evil spirit, fiend, or daemon in Japanese. Yes, the boy had named the Cruel One, saying 'the Cruel One' every time he thought of him was a mouthful and took up more mental energy than he had.
It had been a while since the start of the year, and, almost unnoticeably, the other voices (other than the Cruel One) had faded. Selim could identify them, yes, but they barely came out anymore. His headspace felt less strained because of it, and Selim had attributed the change to Akuryō. To be honest, that put the voice in his good books.
Perhaps that had always been the plan of the sadistic voice, but Selim could scarcely scrape up the energy needed to fight against it. His headaches weren't as bad anymore, he could focus better now, only good things had happened since Akuryō's presence got more and more common.
So was it really a bad thing to put a name to the whisper? Was it really a bad thing to warm up enough to the voice and start actually conversing with it regularly?
All evidence pointed to no. Nothing bad had been brought of it, therefore it was a positive change.
Besides... he was so tired. It's not like he had anything to lose other than his feeble morality.
And morals hadn't been helping him for a long time.
Akuryō laughed, "Aren't you getting braver, Little Raven?" He cooed sarcastically. Selim rolled his dulling amber eyes.
"No, I just don't care, and curiosity is hard to ignore, you know that." The Black-haired boy snorted.
He swore he could feel the voice grinning, "True, I really do want to dissect that little werewolf, Henry, in your dorm. I want to see what makes them tick, tick, tick."
Selim huffed, "Sounds like effort, and I'd rather not go to Azkaban at age 12. Prison isn't my style."
Aku (a shortening of the name, so much less effort) laughed. It was loud and made Selim grimace. Raising his palm he banged his aching skull with the heel of his bony hand. The action only made the sadistic being snicker.
He rolled his eyes again and scanned the darkness that encapsulated the rough corridors in front of him. Briefly, he looked back from where he came, contemplating returning to the dorms, but the thought made his lips curl. Humans, any one of them could turn on him if they wanted, stab him when he sleeps perhaps, for fun, or maybe because they know he killed another student during the summer, who knew.
Unlike many coming his way, Selim didn't hear the rumors, he didn't interact with his peers enough anymore to hear stories on the grapevine. He hadn't heard about one Keagen Deathmote, despite, ironically, beginning to slowly descended into madness much like him. Perhaps one day he'd end up in the dungeons, destroying pebbles because he conceived them as spies from his enemies.
Wouldn't that be fun?
No, he just stumbled upon the place where the dhampire lurked. Honestly, it was surprising he hadn't encountered the youth yet despite the many times he wandered aimlessly in the dungeons.
At that moment, he swore he smelt blood, he was well acquainted with the smell. It always coated his tongue, his senses, it was all he could taste sometimes. Maybe that was just more trickery his brain put forth though, he could never tell.
For a while, he just stood there in the dark without any light. His eyes had adjusted and he could see vague shapes here and there, it's not like he could see in the dark. He relied on his other senses to move about, somehow.
Likely he could only do this thanks to Aku. The voice seemed to be able to help him differentiate reality from fantasy. He didn't do it all the time though, he wasn't nice.
He was probably only doing it at that moment because he was curious too. He was a selfish being.
Footsteps, for once, not fake. The murmur of real voices. Selim hissed, retreating to a dark corner as, inexplicably, more students came, all Slytherin. His gut curled, the memory of the Fight Club dredging up in his brain.
That time they had invitations though.
So why had they emerged from the Slytherin residence to here? How had they ended up where he was? Were they trailing behind him? Were they planning something? Should he retreat further into the darkness? Should he wait and see what was to come? he didn't want to be around people, not right now, no. Their voices would mingle with the others he heard, might confuse him- they might take the opportunity to off him-
"Stay a while, Little Raven, I'll help fend off the whispers that lurk here with me. Maybe we'll move on ahead of them if it gets too chaotic."
Selim was tempted to not listen to Akuryō, tempted to flee, but he restrained himself, pressing into the corner with his thin cloak covering his gaunt features with even more shadow.
But, he did slip out his two 'chopsticks' their points were sharpened, they could easily penetrate the skin if he needed them too, they could easily slice the jugular (stainless steel, easy to clean), they could sink into one's chest, skewer their lungs or hear if position in just the right place.
Like his shadow had done to Victor.
He'd do it again if he had to.
They were all unknowns, and unknowns were dangerous.
Dangers had to be eliminated.

@Koko Riddle
The cold of the dungeons seemed fitting, considering the odd things that had been said and heard about the location. Sapphire, not one for needlessly wearing the school robes, still felt a slight chill even in her sweater of muted violet. Of course, maybe it was less cold and more the feeling of foreboding. She rubbed her fingers against her wrist, nerves kicking up. In her other hand, she held a slip of paper. She didn't really want to directly disturb Koko, so she'd just leave the letter for the girl to find instead.
She worked up her confidence for a few seconds and left the paper sitting on the counter before speed-walking out the common room. She caught sight of someone further ahead, deciding to loosely follow them to at least find her way there properly. She wasn't too bad with directions, but sometimes she got frazzled with unnecessary amounts of stress.
The hallway she found herself in was quite small, but not terribly hard to walk through. A few times, she thought she heard odd scuffling noises. Her shoulders tensed. She recognized that she was likely just paranoid, but at the same time... you never knew what could really be happening.
Her eyes picked up on items on the floor, things that she couldn't really recognize in the dark. But why was she looking at the floor? What would she find there? She glanced up finally, casting her gaze down the halls nearby. And then she found it- no, it wasn't something specific or particularly clue-giving, but she found something. The knocked over chair with an off-kilter line and big bold letters spelling 'CONFIRMATION' would be enough to draw anyone's attention. And then it continued, further into the darkness...
She wondered if Koko would pick up the paper, maybe even come follow her down into the depths of the dungeons. Perhaps, perhaps not. Just to be safe, she pulled her wand out of her pocket, attempting to cast Lumos. The dim light would give her something to help see as she would creep down in an attempt to find the next location. It's sort of like the SHC, she thought shakily. Although, there's a much larger chance of getting murdered here.
"Lumos."

Interacting with @Illowy Magnard

This was a terrible idea. Even the most foolish of them had to see that. The dungeons were a dangerous place, rumored to be full of hags and shadow creatures and who knew what else. Following unknown noises sounded concerningly similar to the instance that had gotten her and many of her housemates cursed, though at least they could all hear them this time, and, in general, investigating anything as a group without Professors was a tried and true recipe for disaster.
Bridget was going, though. Perhaps against her own better judgment, she was going. For one, people she did not want dead were heading down there, and for another, she could at least see what this was all about, the sounds and the rumors. Rumors weren't something she would trust normally, but they were all over her House and she'd noticed bits of the evidence herself, so it seemed there was indeed something to investigate. She was naturally curious; perhaps it would get her killed someday. It had already been demonstrated quite clearly on multiple occasions the danger of sticking your nose where you shouldn't, and yet her need to know what was going on, the possibility for answers, made her more willing to at least check this out.
She'd found Illowy on the way down and they had silently joined one another. There was strength in numbers, right? It was better to have someone to have your back. The two of them likely weren't ready for whatever could come their way, but they were both good with their wands and quick on their feet, which had to count for something. At any rate, Bridget didn't want Illowy to be alone like she had been during the spider attack, unconscious on the ground soon after the spiders were let in.
It was cold down here, her sweater not nearly enough to block off the chill. That was yet another similarity to the night of the spider attack. And it was dark. She'd come to associate the darkness, shadows in particular, with bad things. All of it together had her feeling a little jumpy, keeping an eye out around her for really anything that moved. Reaching for her wand, she removed it from the holster Katrina had given her for Christmas. Maybe she was being paranoid, but having her wand in hand made her feel a little safer.
The stone of the walls made for a narrow hallway. Like they were being funneled to their doom. For how much of a maze Hogwarts was, this could still be just one of many entrances and exits to this branch of the dungeons. Of course, that also meant a greater chance of getting lost.
She could hear voices ahead of her, normal voices. The sounds of her housemates. Someone was asking if they should get a Professor or house elf. The answer was yes, they should. They really should. She wasn't so eager to turn back now, though. For one, the Professors wouldn't let them explore at their leisure down here, as they should. But would they take the time to investigate? Unlike some of her peers, Bridget still trusted the staff. That did not mean she was confident in their sense of urgency. Not with the fact it had been about a year since they'd been cursed and no progress had been made. Seriously, didn't a curse that may have originated from the hags and might have the potential of killing them merit ample time and resources dedicated to finding a solution? Or couldn't they pass it off to experts if they were too busy running the school? No, they were unlikely to do much about their claims that there was something down here, or perhaps someone. She just hoped this wouldn't be another instance of everything going terribly wrong and them being left with more questions than answers.
Already, there was something to be seen. CONFIRMATION. Confirmation of what? That there was something to be discovered down here, that they should stay out? Or was it something else entirely? There was also an outline of a chair near what was presumably the same overturned chair in chalk. The setup reminded her of something she'd seen before, she just couldn't quite put her finger on what.
Around the room, there was the repeated muttering of one incantation: Lumos. The spell to give them light in this dark room, to ward off any potential shadow creatures. The first thing that had come to mind was to cast the Wand-Lighting Charm as well, yet there was such thing as too much light. Everyone else was casting it, so for the time being, she could use their illumination. There were corridors leading to who knows where, even a trail of sorts on the ground. Plunging into this maze wasn't something she was too keen on doing, not yet. Instead, she started looking around. There were already things here; perhaps there was more to be discovered. More clues as to what all this was about. She'd rather know what she was getting into if she could help it...

In Search of the Source of the Creeping Darkness
Henry was originally planning to studying or more like hang out by the great lake with Henry Llewellyn that day but instead from himself distracted by a strange sound almost calling to him causing the twelve year old to come to a halt as he spoke toward the other Henry, " did you hear that red? What did you think it is?" Looking in the direction that was almost giving off a weird sense before looking toward his friend as if to silently ask if they should investigate or leave.
The second year was glad that he left his cat with Rose at the time but was also wished that he brought the marauders map with him to look over and check just in case some type of danger laid just beyond their reach. Still his mind occasionally flicker toward Logan and wondered if she was around or something but back to the present as Henry entered the area with Henry Llewellyn by his side, left hand on his wand and the right in his jacket pocket holding tight to the slytherin brooch that the slytherin duelers carried.
Confirmation
Upon entering the room, it was dark almost two dark that Henry couldn't see much in front of his face but the room felt small since he was rather close with Henry Llewellyn. Looking toward his friend to ensure his safety was when he heard a distinct sound of his co captains voice from what he thought was her casting the wand lighting charm. Looking around before speaking toward Henry Llewellyn, " it's a bit dark in here? See or feel anything Red?" Not wanting to get separate from his friend since this was hogwarts the boy thought he should cast the wand lighting charm to as he spoke, pointing his wand out in front, " Lumos Maxima!"
That was when the white powder on the ground and whispers of an male ravenclaw student not to mention the single word written on the wall and what may have been dried blood along the floor and as time went on it became known toward Henry as he thought to himself what did he just walk into?
