Blossom Ball

Once the leaves start to form on the trees and the flowers start to bud one knows that spring is well on its way. The Blossom Festival is about celebrating nature, the longer days, the warmer air and the rejuvenation of life after those long, cold, dead winter months. It was somewhat a tradition for witches to celebrate the passage of the seasons, there was a bit of magic that came with these changes and if one were to pay close enough attention that might feel it. Magic is intangible, this force that we often overlook and take for granted as simply being there, like gravity or the wind.
The House Elves seemed to particularly enjoy preparing for festivities such as this. Three dozen tables were set with clean white linens and placed on a large, flat grassy space. In the summer months these grounds are sometimes used to house the children that do not wish to return home during the summer holiday months. Particularly common among those who came from a muggle upbringing, it was often hard to transition between worlds so often they chose to remain in just one. Lights twinkled several feet off the ground, the warm twinkle lights held aloft by magic gave the space a playful ambience that even the Headmaster could appreciate. Candles also lit the tables, providing a warm glow as dusk approached.
An hour before sunset, seven in the evening the dance would begin. An elf snapped his long slender fingers at quarter of and the sounds of music, a string quartet started to fill the air. The setting itself seemed somewhat formal, not quite stuffy due to the element of nature. The girls often enjoyed donning their finest gowns. As for the boys, they were often forced into formal attire by their fairer counterparts with the occasional exception. Solomon was of course wearing a suit of armor, the same honey-hued, leather wrapped metal plate armor he had worn for years. For the sake of the occasion he worse a tie over the armor, something fancy one could say. The tie was this garish orange, like a traffic cone had been tied around his neck. That was about as fancy as old Solomon Lear was going to get for this occasion.
Solomon look over to the buffet. That was likely going to be where he spent his evening unless there was mischief afoot. The fare was meant for children and teens, that was for certain. Heartburn was in his conceivable future. Pizza of every type, made to look fancy on pedestals with 'fancy' ingredients made those pies pizza none-the-less. There was also a plate of chicken wings - boned and boneless. Finally, at the very end of the table there was a bowl of salad. The salad while well done seemed almost out of place considering the rest of the arrangement but the elves likely reasoned that the Professors would have a fit if there was nothing green for the students to ignore on their plates.
There was a second table filled with confectionaries. Well, cupcakes of every conceivable flavor from maple bacon to lemon-blueberry twist. Much like Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jellybeans, these cupcakes were inspired by similar madness. Solomon would try a purple cupcake, hopeful that the palm-sized treat would have some sort of creamy berry flavor. He would bite into the cupcake and his teeth would breech the sweet frosting and reach the soft cake beneath, then his tongue would partake in a peculiar and disappointing flavor: beef casserole. It was already in his mouth, he tried to not gag as he forced a hard swallow and let that unsettling concoction rest in his gut.

As for drinks, it was a large communal fountain of punch. The punch is a favorite at these gatherings because it is a different flavor every time someone drinks it. Unlike the cupcakes made by some sadist, all of the flavors are pretty 'good' and oddly enough the punch seems to know what someone's preferred drink is. Each time they drink of the punch, it improves ever so slightly. For a vampire for instance, this might taste like blood. To a third year, this might taste like cran-grape, to a Professor it might taste like a vodka and tonic (and have a similar effect so take care). While popular, the ingredients required are rare, somewhat expensive and the process of brewing this drink takes almost a full lunar cycle so it saved for 'special occasions' such as this.
The students started to filter in, just on time. Some would straggle in 'fashionably late' more than likely. A group of fourth years would find a corner of the party and occupy several tables. A band of seniors would take up a space near the punch bowl. A small flask would slip from the pocket of one of the young men, without looking behind him he would pour the contents into the fountain when nobody was looking (this would be unseen). The fifth and sixth years seemed scattered throughout the dancefloor and the tables. A few wallflowers would find the snacks and take root there. The third years were for the most part absent, late comers more than likely Solomon reasoned as he stealthily dropped the cupcake on the ground and kicked it away with the side of his foot.
This is an event thread.
- Yes, this is a "Solomon murder thread" in that something with go wrong. As for what, well usually you make whatever I come up with worse... so I will leave that to you.
- There are going to be two other threads made on the grounds as well that are taking place at the same time as the dance so you will only be able to be in one thread at a time. You may start in this thread and then leave to a thread adjacent but you can only be in one place at one time.
- Normal catching rules (for IC infractions) are not going to be taking place here.
- Normal word count minimums are expected (200 words).
- I will be making periodic moderation posts, there will not be much warning.
- You do not need to respect post order. In fact that will be impossible to do.

There is something about ambition, how it not only propels you but also defines you.

Slytherin house had a flourish to them, a kind of swagger that came with being the winner of the most recent house cup. Elena Jones had the swagger too, it was just a little more comfortable than the others.
Blossomfest, a time when blossoms where meant to be around and everyone was meant to party the damn castle down. Last ball had Elena dress up properly, this one had her in rather nice suit, because walking in pants was a lot easier than tripping over long dresses or the uncomfortable feeling of short dresses. So now the girl was just hanging around the party, looking at the food. She didn’t like the idea of those weird cupcake things. Elena wasn’t hungry anyway.
Better to lurk at the edges of the party, have a nice time watching and lurking and hoping someone she knew or at least that was nice to came to talk to her. What was that song about it being saturday night? Well, that’s how she’d hopefully feel in a bit, just for now nothing interesting had happened. No people to roll with, nothing she trusted to eat, and the headmaster was here wearing armor. Alan’s scared and worrying warnings spun through her head, leaving the girl with a touch of fear at the idea of remaining here.

Donny was quite glad that this was his first dance here at Hogwarts, though he was somewhat disappointed as well, seeing as he had to were something formal. His mum had sent him a light pink button up shirt with a slick black vest. The sleeves were quite long, but he managed to roll them up accordingly while hiding them under his formal black cloak. There was no use in trying to go without wearing it, his mum had an increasingly annoying owl following him around the grounds whenever it got the chance, pecking him constantly to remember to zip up his-he'd rather not say.
He made it to the grounds after applying a somewhat generous amount of colo-Cologne? Whatever it was he was not sure how much to apply from the label. It was supposed to smell like "Spicebomb" but he thought it smelled rather like sanitizing wipes. He made his way to the campgrounds, grinning slightly in the hopes that someone would notice his effort, until he noticed that he was one of the three that were there currently. He saw a familiar girl- Elena?- with blue hair and a suit lurking along the edges of the grounds, waiting for someone, but he didn't know who. There was also the headmaster in a bronze sort of armored outfit, swallowing a seemingly nasty cupcake.
Donny went to the the food tables, still being settled by some poor, hardworking house elves. There were assortments of cakes and beautiful spring themed treats and casseroles. The floor was decorated with glowing pink flower blossoms though the grounds had no cherry blossom trees. He walked over to the cupcakes tentatively, looking around just in case someone saw him digest a bad flavor. He picked up one labeled "Coconut shavings" and he began to unwrap it. He took a small bite of it, soon realizing it wasn't anything near coconut... he'd gotten Onion. He quickly saw a floral patterned napkin and spit the remnants of the pastie into it. The flavor remained, and he scooped some punch into a cup, thankfully digesting it. He just wished that he'd see some of his friends at least. Ruka... someone? He sat at a round table, staring into the magically lit candle that was set in the middle...

Interacting With: Rosalie (her Pygmy Puff)It had been Alexx's decision last year to miss out on the Blossom Ball; she was simply not ready to delve into the mystery of friendship at the time. A shame, because she found out that the people here were rather interesting! She enjoyed the company of others. As a matter of fact, she thrived when she was with others. It was as if she could naturally strike up a conversation with anyone these days. Perhaps getting Prefect was a much-needed confidence boost. But, for tonight, she wasn't on duty for once. Of course, if something were to go wrong, she wouldn't hesitate to step in and help. But for the first time in a while, poor Alexx wasn't living with eyes in the back of her head. She could be calm. She could be thirteen.
The school year would end soon, and she'd wave goodbye to all of her friends on the platform, and then off she would go onto another adventure. But there was still memories to make. She had not attended the Blossom Ball last year, so damn it, she was going to do it this year! There was no one stopping her. She was going to look good and enjoy herself and talk to people, as one rightfully should! So, Alexx reached into the depths of her luggage and pulled out a step up from her robes: a dress and heels. Earrings dangled from her ears, space buns topping it all off. She truly did look good, and that was her own opinion. Alexx wasn't a fan of the long gowns. She wasn't here to impress anyone; the only opinion that mattered was her own, and she liked her dresses knee length.
Truth be told, Alexx had no one she was meeting here. She found that these days she didn't care who it was that she went with, because she had friends on all corners of the school. It was a wonderful truth, because this meant that Alexx felt nearly at home anywhere. It was nice to feel included in a group of people, because for a long time she thought that she would never fit in anywhere. Though, she worried that someone might not see past her title. For if she weren't wearing the badge tonight, then would she amount to much of anything in the eyes of those around her? Would it become true that Alexx was only who she was because of the title she bore at the end of her name? Due to her signature changing? If this were to be the case, how would she filter past those who only liked her because she was a Prefect?
As she made her way over towards the tables, eyeballing the edible arrangements that had been sorted out among them. It was hard to see past the individuals that crowded the place. There was a gaggle of people that had already shown up. Secretly, Alexx hoped that someone she knew would approach her and make her appear less awkward, because she figured that she looked as such right now. It probably was awkward. Well, she wasn't really alone. She had Rosalie rolling around on her shoulder, which was awfully cute. "I suppose you aren't used to seeing this many people around, are you Rosalie?" She asked her companion, smiling at her. She turned her attention back to the crowd, and decided to section herself off near a more empty area so that she wasn't intruding on other kids and their fun. That would be rude, of course.
Standing seemed preferable, because simply sitting would make her awkwardness worse. Now she secretly was wishing she would have asked someone, anyone, if they were going, just for the simple idea of not being alone, or not being unsure about whether or not any of her friends were here. Her eyes scanned desperately, trying to make out faces from the crowd. Eventually, she settled on the idea that she would see someone eventually, or that someone would see her. It was only a matter of time. She just had to be patient. Besides, one can never be too sure about who might come out of the woodwork at any given moment. Patience was the key to success. Or it was something like that. Mikey used to say it after taking a long drag from his cigarette and smiling at her. But that was France, and this was Hogwarts.

At last, the Blossomball had arrived! Little Ms. McGill had heard about this festivity from various sources before, and she had heard all about the crazy elaborate dresses all the Purebloods brought. Apparently it was a tradition for their kind to go all out, with the sparkles and the pizzazz. It's as if their bloodline didn't have enough.Interacting with Alexx Helm!
Finley attempted to bring her best age-appropriate clothing for the ball, so she decided on a cute little shoulder-less dress. It sinched around her shoulders and she tied a tight knot in the back, just in case. As she entered, she had very low expectations, but they were quickly heightened once she noticed the decor and the small amount of people there. Sounded perfect: an intimate party with slow dancing, punch, and cupcakes. Who would've guessed? Hopefully it didn't grow much larger and it didn't become a huge wreck, because her mind would make her the one who had to clean.
Finley meandered over towards the elegant table, eyeing Headmaster Lear and quickly scooting away. She bent down a little in order to avoid the view of the man, but sneakily grabbed a yellow-frosted cupcake as she descended. She pulled a seat over to another table, but heard the yapping of some foreign creature. Her ear perked up and she turned around, spotting the girl from the Quidditch Pitch! Finally, someone she knew! What was that she had? It looked like the things that were all over the common room the other day! "Hi there!" She jumped up and approached her friend. "Long time no see...huh?" She took another bite of her cupcake and smiled. "And who you got there?" She lightened her voice as she talked to the pet.

She had never really attended one of these before. Heck, this was her first time attending any type of ball for that matter but she knew formal attire when it was needed. After all, her trunk did not just contain school textbooks and all sorts of nerdy stuff. The prefect was dressed in a short bright white and yellow striped dress. It seemed more fitting for the occassion, she had thought. After all, the colors radiated purity and happiness. It was the perfect thing. Making her way to where the event was starting to kick off, she took a glance around at the several people milling about before blinking a few times. The headmaster was there but several things about the man greatly peaked her curosity. Firstly, he was dressed in what seemed to be an suit of armour with a tie? Elena stared for a few moments as if trying to comprehend what she was seeing."This school never ceases to amaze me."She muttered to herself before catching sight of another familar face. The other Elena. The girl's expression broke out into a mixture between a smile and a sigh of relief. Finally, someone she knew,
The Gryffindor hurried over to the female's side calling out a greeting as she approached."Elena!Hi!"She had grown rather close to the Slytherin student over the course of the year. Despite usually having a general distrust of the house, Elena had some rare exceptions such as Elena and Luna Choi. She really was beginning to like it here."What are you doing over here by your lonely self?"She asked casting a secondary glance at the food. Cupcakes. Her favorite. Every color and type. She quickly snagged one up popping it into her mouth as her taste buds relished the flavor. Eclair. It was an quite satisfying feeling."Try one. They're really good."She urged Elena nodding at the items. If all of them were like this one, she could devour the whole table.

Blossom Ball

There was a stinging feeling in the air this Blossomfest. The air smelled different, the temperature felt different, and even some clothes felt different. It felt painful and strange to have feet sink into this ground again, with its well-groomed grass and opulent fairy lights. This entire ball made stomachs swim. Returning to this place felt odd...
Yes, that was correct. All those feelings and all those insecurities belonged to none other than Anatole Evans, creative, anxious and occasionally witty student. And by fate or will power, he had entered the annual Blossom festival Ball.
He had heard so many things had changed since his last "scene", and the curiosity bit him in the stomach just enough to come back, and maybe play along with this naive few. Hopefully no one remembered him. That would be terrible.
And oh God. If Rosie showed up, the world would end for him.
The last thing he was looking for was attention as he sulked to the back, attempting to avoid anyone he vaguely knew from the year prior. He wore the same outfit from last year, with the maroon vest and the collared shirt. Not a single child's face popped out to him as recognizable or worth his time, yet at the glint of golden armor, Anatole shuddered. Lear. Headmaster Lear. Those two words together were a frightening combination. In response to his eyes, he slowly lowered himself behind a table, shutting his eyes and facepalming. Sure, this was a wonderful, magical school, but he completely forgot about Lear's existence. Oh Lord.
However, as he dropped, his back hit the edge of the table, whisking the table's white cloth onto the red-vested boy. He gulped, praying none of these early arrivals took note of him. All he needed was a good time for once. No drama, just fun.
As he breathed in, he realized his hands were shaking a bit. He swore he heard the click of footsteps approaching, but they weren't as heavy as he expected. He shut his eyes and wished he had his wand on him and had enough skill to whisk himself away from this impending discovery, but he had to take a breath. He would be alright.
That is, if the air would stop feeling so heavy and he would quit putting all this pressure on himself. Once he was light, he could have a good time. All he needed was just a little satisfying joy, no Headmaster required.
Anatole decided to man up and he forced a grin on himself, planted his hands on the ground and pushed himself up. For mere moments, he looked like a ghost, but without the eyeholes. He moved his hands around until he found the table, and he held onto it, slowing his breathing. It would be okay. Of course no one would notice a floating tablecloth on the perimeter of the region. Anatole was fine. This place was fine.
This prince would finally conquer the ball if it's the last thing he did...even if he had to do it while wearing a tablecloth.

Miko's Suit
Miko's SuitMiko walked in through the doors, a charming grin on his face even though there was still the black eye on his face. The boy had never gone to a successful part sort of thing so he was nervous and ready for anything to attack, flying trees, pygmy puffs, anything. Of course he barely knew anything that could help in a situation like that magic wise but at least he had done sports as a child, right? The muscle gets useful when you really need it.
He gulped nervously and looked around for anyone he could recognize, Elena was here but she was busy with someone else. The Hufflepuff wandered around before he went over to the food area and grabbed a cup of punch, sipping it thoughtfully. Miko observed the scenery, he was never one for parties but after several letters from his dad telling him to go he decided to go finally.
The lad's hair was never done, not even for the occasion so it stayed the usual messy style it always was. Of course it wasn't the best choice to go with the fancy suit he wore but then again did he really have any fashion taste? No, that's the answer. He had no clue how to look good.
Miko put down his cup and walked to a table nervously. Though on the surface he was still his old charming self, inside he was freaking out. With his experience of parties the lad figured something would happen, something wrong but he also didn't care much. Yay.

People were beginning to stream into the party, Alexx, that insanely stupid kid from the abandoned toilets, and some other girl that seemed to be friends with the slytherin prefect. Elena hoped the toilet kid wasn't planning on coming and talking to her.
Jangles had arrived at the party and come rushing over, it made Elena feel light and fluffy in her heart. Elena smiled at her friend, "Hiya Jangles! I'm just hanging out round the edge, waiting for someone I know. Lo and behold it worked, I'm so glad you're here!"
The slytherin rethought the food and grabbed a cupcake at random, when she bit into it, it was Vanilla Ice Cream, excellent. It was most certainly worth the second thought, food was good she had decided, and food was what made sure you didn't starve to death, which was also good.
There was someone floating around in a tablecloth, which made Elena raise an eyebrow, very strange but who knows what the hell happened to them. Maybe someone spiked the punch. Miko ran into the ball as well wearing a very nice looking suit, Elena waved at him excitedly and tried to call him over, "Miko! Nice to see you again!"

Donny wasn't much of a person to approach other girls, so he decided to muster up some courage and go over to talk to one of the two boys that had just came along. One of the boys he recognized for he was in Hufflepuff, the other was in Gryffindor he supposed. The Hufflepuff boy who was near the girl Elena and with blue hair. He had a large black eye, but other than that his suit wasn't too shabby, it was certainly better than his own pink shirt and black vest. He finished gulping his punch, and trudged over to the side of the buffet table, leaning against it gingerly.
The boy was considerably taller than he, but height did't really determine good friendships-right? He stood there awkwardly, looking down and thinking of what to say. "So... you fancy music?" he said awkwardly. Donny knew he liked music, and the absence of it currently made all the fun quite lean. Donny tried to hold his question about the black eye until he at least found out the boy's name. His dear mum has always told him it was quite rude to point things out about other people you don't quite know just yet-like strangers.
