Chess Combat Match 2
12:00 p.m. Saturday, 14th August 2021
The time had come for the second match of the Summer Chess Combat! The Viridian Vipers were coming fresh off of a spectacular season to face teams of visiting students that were brave enough to dare challenge the champion team. Would these challengers emerge victorious? Or would the Viridian Vipers vanquish their various, valorous opponents?
In this second match, the Vipers sent forth Astrea Soleil Neptune and Adonis Thorn as their noble Rooks, Sarah Lightwood and Violet Carrington as their daring Bishops, and Dmitri Jones as their lovely Queen. Their opponents were Henrietta Montagne (Levi Drakos) and Felix Kolbeck (Winnie Harper) as Rooks, Maksim Preobrazhensky (Ami Procoppio) and Amaury Favreau (Cecily Quinn) as Bishops, and Irina Afanasyeva (Lavinia Cloven) as the Queen. These opponents may have been from schools that were thousands of miles apart but they were united in their belief that they could defeat Hogwarts' reigning duelling champions.
The weather was pleasant enough, not a perfect day but certainly not a bad one by any stretch. Unlike the rather aesthetic duelling stage that lay within Hogwarts, the arena that day was not particularly impressive. Magical chalk had been used to draw 5 by 5 squares in the grass. Nearby, there were benches, warded so that it was highly unlikely that any sitting there would be hit by a stray spell. Unlikely, not impossible... These warded benches were for any waiting their turn to enter the arena, as well as any who wanted to watch the matches.
Since the games were taking place one at a time, spectators could watch one, two, or all three if they so desired. Some might end earlier than others, but there was an hour slot booked in, by which the match would have definitely been finished.

What a turntable. Once a mortal enemy, now a friend for life. To be fair, the Raven and the snake’s relationship could not be categorised as the healthy one. They were more of a frenemy than an actual friend. But there she was, dressed up in a full Slytherin style attire and green hair with that fancy spell she had. Where did she get that Slytherin crest top, you asked? On a random day, the all mighty Violet Carrington accidentally left it in the great hall. A pretty opportunity, Aurora ‘borrowed’ it without permission for this purpose only. Obviously she would give it back later on, if she did not forget to do so. Aurora was never the smart kid, not the kindest either, but she was the most supportive friend you could ever ask for. The night before, the girl stayed up all night in her cabin and made a pair of handmade pompoms from found objects. She even sacrificed her Ravenclaw pride by wearing the ghastly moss green colour that she hated so much. Green was not her colour, but only for her new addition member of friend, the Ravenclaw will be a snake for a day. Even greener than the actual Slytherins.
Why on earth the population of those whose hairs were white filled the wizarding world. There was just something special about that colour on people that made their level of attractiveness raised from zero to unlimited. Was it the shine? Was it the anaemic look on their faces? Perhaps that kind of hair just added some sprinkles of sparkle which oddly made Aurora swoon. Though one of them winked at another girl, disappointing. Aurora would like to make a scene, like she always did. But she had a purpose at that moment. Both cheering for the purple snake and embarrass herself in the process. Aurora did it to herself many times, it won’t affect her any longer as she was now appreciating those as a self appreciation. With her chin held high, and a humongous silver bow on her green hair,

Santario had already received any medical treatment she might have needed after her own duel, showered, and changed. Now she had shown up for the other part of her team. Considering she was usually overseeing a duel or participating in one, it usually left very little time for her to actually watch any of the other duels. Plus, now she could get some photos for the team; the only downfall was that she could not clone herself and take pictures of her own match.
Santario pulled her camera bag around from her lower back and quickly removed her camera, dropping its lens cap in the now empty pocket. With a quick adjustment of the lens, she faced the Slytherin team before snapping a few photos of their lineup. Waiting specifically until after Dmitri was done grumbling about one thing or another. She wanted that classic shot of all of them staring down their opponents, and she could not help but smirk, thinking that Dmitri would probably just cut everyone else out and frame only himself from his personal copy.
The other thing that she would not be able to ignore was Aurora, the girl she had met on the train ride home on July first. Though she was in the most peculiar outfit, Santario would snap a quick photo of her before redirecting her camera back towards the stage, making sure that she could get photographs of the first actions.

A finger of Violet Carrington raised in the air. At first glance, the amateur cheerleader thought it was a thumbs up or something innocent, like a gratification gesture. Wait until the realisation hit about how wrong she was. Aurora squinted, trying so hard to figure out what that gesture was. Probably glasses would help her terrible sight. Then it was clear, as if the fog had finally lifted from the ground. The shape of one insulting middle finger, made her want to cut that off her hand if she could. And as expected, all hell broke loose shortly after. “Y-YOU UGLY LITTLE COCKROACH WITH KAREN INFUSED IN YOUR BLOOD!” Stomped on the ground angrily, threw the pompoms in random directions. For some people who did not witness the whole situation, she sounded pretty much the same as before when she was cheering at her alleged best friend, though, now it had more power and was louder than ever. “YOU KNOW WHAT!? YES YOU ARE NOT SEXY! YOU ARE NOT CUTE! AND YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT POPULAR TO BOOT!”

Furiously fast clicks came from her camera as she started to capture all of the action. Adonis casting Rictemsempra, Dmitri and Astrea casting Ventus. It did not matter if the spells hit to her for the photographs. Naturally, she wanted nothing but their spells to hit, but she was getting action shots for the vipers in general.
Which, of course, meant that she could not pass up getting Violet flipping Aurora the bird only she would get a slightly wider angle to capture the outrage on Aurora’s shrieking face as it happened. Santario shook her head at Aurora but said nothing otherwise. As long as Aurora did not interfere with the duel physically or try to start problems with the other faceless spectators, she could shriek all she wanted. Duellists, like quidditch players, needed to be used to blocking out noise interference.
Next would be Sarah casting rictemsempra and Adonis with a flipendo. The last round would be great for shots as well, holding Sarah blazing an Incendio across the stage. Dmitri executing a beautifully placed nebulous, Violet unleashing the blue streaks of flipendo, and Astrea working the gusts of a Ventus.
There was not much room for cheering between all of the actions she was trying to capture, but she would do her best to cheer on her team, knowing that Dmitri would lead them to a sweet victory.
