Evening, 1st of August
Following the long train journey, students finally arrived at Hogwarts. They were escorted directly to the Campgrounds and registered again. It was, at this stage that they were given the rules for the month. These were pretty obvious but they were stated again by Professor Jensen, simply because she did not trust students to listen. She also wanted to be sure that the visiting students had no excuse of being 'unaware' of the rules. Where necessary, the accompanying adults from each of the schools would repeat the rules in their school's language for people who didn't have English as their first language.

Camp rules were very simple. Obey the curfew, follow usual school rules, don't wander off into the forest, don't be a giant jerk - you know, all of the usual things. Failure to comply would result in a detention, or worse, banned from attending future camps.

Eight log cabins provided lodging for campers, each one with a beast-bearing flag for which they were named. Three were the Avian cabins: Augurey, Occamy, and Phoenix. Across from these were the three Equine cabins: Thestral, Kelpie, and Unicorn. At either end were two cabins intended for adults only but for this year's festivities repurposed for student use: the Hippogriff and Dragon cabins. Those creatures occupying the enchanted flags mutely flexed in a constant show of "friendly" competition: beating wings, clacking beaks, stamping hooves, and soundlessly tossing their heads.

Every structure appeared deceptively humble in size on the outside, while the interiors were enlarged by extension charms, making them wide beyond means and quite comfortable. These were fully furnished with curtained bunks, personal chests, dressers, wood-burning stoves, and plush floor rugs. The layouts were strikingly similar to the dorm rooms back at the castle. Rather than having House themes, however, they featured nuances of the beast on their flag.

During registration, they also all received their cabin allocations. Students were then escorted to the cabins by an adult and given some time to put their bags down, secure themselves a bed and settle into the accommodation that they would be staying at for the month. The official feast was being set up and would start in about an hour. After which, they could attend the first campfire of the month if they wish to. Of course, they could just return to the cabins whenever they wanted to rest.

The group of students that arrived here would be the members of the Unicorn Cabin.

Unicorn

A house of nightmares to some students, burning retinas to others or perhaps just a bundle of joy. A few students, at some point, exposed the Professors to the muggle representation of unicorns. It was a mistake. This technicolour nightmare - for some - tells you that not everything is art, but it is pretty neat. Other students would likely think it was heaven, it really depends on who you ask or who was lucky (or unlucky) enough to be housed here.

Crawlspaces and nooks can be found throughout this place. [Image Link] There is no large, communal space for gatherings but rather small areas found by trap door, a strange out of place ladder or at the end of a meandering tunnel that students would find themselves in. [Image Link] The bedrooms are almost as comfortable as advertised, however they do in fact resemble clouds when laid upon. [Image Link] Each room is private but there is no space for much besides the king sized bed (only one per bed, we check) and the closet that each student fills with their belongings.
OOC Guidelines:
1. This thread takes place first thing (after the train journey here but before the Annual Barbecue. Takes place around 5pm-6pm on the first day.
2. It is an optional thread for all members of the cabin, serving as a 'meet and greet' thread if you need it. You do not have to post here but please feel free to.
3. You are permitted to create your own cabin threads at your leisure. Please tag it with the name of your cabin. I.E. [Unicorn] and mark it as PV/Open as usual.
4. Only named cabin members can enter the cabin. Students cannot visit other cabins.
5. Please assume that there is an adult in each cabin, regardless of whether or not they actively post. You are not left alone in the middle of the night. Do not godmod them without permission, though.

This is my former staff account.

Arriving by train had been a change to the usual boat travel. The … welcoming ceremony? The rules reminders and cabin assignments, in any case, were (what Milena assumed to be) the usual. The rules were self-explanatory in her opinion, but given the rumours she'd heard about this school and the shenanigans some students at Durmstrang got up to, it would probably have been remiss not to have a reminder. She could only hope that her fellow students (and herself) would be able to properly represent their school and show it in a positive light. After all, it was the best school of the lot.

She was a bit apprehensive about the mixed (in every meaning of the word) cabins, but she would prevail. Just because her stance on non-Purebloods had thawed did not mean that she was all that interested in interacting with them. And they were far more numerous here than at Durmstrang. She was probably better equipped to hold a conversation with about anything Muggle than many of her fellow Pure-Bloods given her family's somewhat unorthodox stance on the matter, but it was still going to be … interesting. She refused to call it daunting.

Following their escort to the assigned cabin, Milena noted the modest cabins. Far less colourful than the sea of tents last summer. More refined. Good. At least their their lodgings would be dignified.

… She should not have jinxed herself. As soon as she stepped foot into the cabin, she deeply regretted her previous thought. Less colourful? Dignified? Scratch that. This was so much worse. It was only her ingrained habit of keeping an unflappable demeanor in public that prevented her from stopping short and staring at the … explosion of colour in horror. Even then, she barely managed to keep her usual impassive face. So her lodgings would not be dignified... Well, she refused to dignify this travesty of a cabin with an outward reaction.

She was a Durmstrang student. She was an Orlov(a). She was a Sands. Milena (Minerva) Sergejevna Orlova would survive having to stay in this hellhole of colour for a month. Even if she had to pretend not to notice … what even was this cabin? Seriously, Hogwarts people had to be insane. Who would ever choose to stay here voluntarily?

But there was time to ponder that question later when she wasn't around a mix of people. (Age be damned, as soon as she was back home she was so going to prank the ever-loving hell out of her siblings for once, for making her go through this. And if her parents got caught in the cross-fire... well. Or maybe she would wait. Revenge was a dish best served cold, after all. But that was also something to consider later.) For now she would settle in and hopefully meet some of her cabin-mates.

Outwardly Milena would show no more reaction upon entering the cabin than a slow blink. It would give the impression that she was simply taking it in stride.

The only positive about the cabin was that it seemed they would all have private rooms. At least that meant that she would not have to wear her public face 24/7. After dropping her things off in her assigned room [if they are assigned as well, if not she would choose one at random] she would return to the entrance to get a measure of her cabin-mates.

If one of them approached her, she would give them a polite smile and greet them as well as introduce herself. Привет. Hello. Nice to meet you, I am Milena Sergejevna Orlova.” If the professor were to approach her, she would offer a Добрый день. Good afternoon.” instead of the less formal hello. If no one approached her, she would simply observe for the moment.

This year’s birthday will be interesting, with a bonfire as her candle. There was a little part of unenthusiasm to board the train two days before the getting older celebration, but her curiosity was stronger, it made the girl decide to pack up and leave for the summer camp. Although her mother, Josh, and Naomi prepared a surprise party and she got a new broom from her grandparents the day before, surrounded by strangers who possibly couldn’t care less about her special day would not be as great. According to her brain, she’d like to imagine it to be in the middle of the wood, sleeping in a tent with a bunch of people, food scarcity, thus, hunt in the wild, fishing, horror stories around the bonfire, s’mores, and all that jazz. This was the first time her expectation was below reality’s offering. Bright and frisky, though, she might come out from the cabin blind after a full month staring at those blazing rainbow colours. As for that time, it was heaven on earth. Her dream of becoming one of the little ponies like the muggle cartoons was finally within her reach. Something about each cabin’s name stood out to the pink haired girl. Unicorn, dragon, phoenix, those were mythical creatures from muggle books and movies, she was sure the other unfamiliar names might be as well. What if one or multiple professors transfigure them into these lodges? Does that mean I am now standing in a unicorn’s intestine? Interesting. Probably a good idea to ask Professor Wade aka the fancy transfiguration professor with a magnificent mustache later one.

Her closet was now full of her three big trunks, and one small trunk filled with her chocolate stock for a couple of months. Lucifur the furball seemed to be thrilled to explore the space, maybe dropping some decoration on the wall in the process. It will be rare for anyone to see the cat without ornamental attire, either it was an adorable monster costume or its own version of Hogwarts uniform, at some point, he will have more resemblance to a Christmas tree than a cat. As he jumped out of the bed to run outside and play with random objects, Aurora caught him first. “Not now Lucy, I don’t want us to sleep outside because you destroy the whole cabin!” A soft meow and a purr was the only response he gave the young girl then sat on her shoulder while the blue eyes wandered everywhere in a full inquisitiveness. Just a cat being a cat.

The most terrible person on the planet earth, Violet Glarrington was not on the Unicorn cabin list, bless God. Hopefully, nobody despises cats as much as she hates those who don’t have chocolate appreciation running in their blood. There was another girl, perhaps older, never seen her before. The bird walked closer to the communal area and sat down on one of the couches, still with Lucifur on her side. “H-“ She cleared her throat, “Hi, what a bright cabin, huh?” Ah, Russian. Must be from her cousin’s school. Too bad he was not able to join the camp for some unknown reason, of course, he wouldn’t tell the person he thought never exist for the eleven years of his life. “I’m Aurora Ranvier, and this is Lucifur Morningsneeze Ranvier”

Roleplaying as Theodore Duncain.
@Willow Anderson (Everett Brooks)- Gave permission for minor godmodding
Slowly Theodore began to feel like he was spending almost equal amounts of time at Hogwarts or England in general and his own school. After having spent a bit of time here in spring to attend the Blossom Ball, he was back in summer for another hopefully most eventful camp. This time they would not be sleeping in tents but instead were assigned cabins. First he had to say that he was a little disappointed that he would not get to share one with his two female housemates, Phyllis and Karilyna, but that was quickly replaced by excitement- Rett would share a cabin with Theo!

Their travels to England were almost boring in comparison to last time. Headmaster Plott had made them sail across the ocean and then taken them into not so safe looking areas in London. Theo had heard many of his peers complain, but he had to say that, if he looked back he had found it rather exciting and enjoyable. Not so much the travelling by portkey. It was very much quicker for sure, but so... well, uneventful.

At least it made it almost impossible to lose his Horned Serpent friend and together the two boys looked for their cabin. Upon entering, Theodore gasped and a wide grin appeared on his face. "Rainbow cabin! Wow, did they actually go with the muggle interpretation of unicorns? Hah, my sister would love it." The young Thunderbird pulled in his luggage and looked around. "Looks like we're all getting an own room! Come on, Princess, let's see which ones are still free." Yes, Everett did never lose the nickname he got for himself in the chess combat last year.

Once again the Southern boy found himself traveling across the pond to go to Hogwarts. Really, he didn't understand why Hogwarts couldn't make the effort to come to America but he didn't mind the summer vacation. While he loved his home, he didn't mind the change in scenery every now and again. Especially since his boyfriend attended Hogwarts. Long distance wasn't something that was easy, but for Rafa it was worth it (as much as he hated to admit how smitten he was with the boy).

Rett was one of the ones that much preferred the portkey method of transportation. Having to already make the long journey was annoying when they had magic to assist them. But he had heard people say things like 'Its not about the destination, its about the journey.' So he was just trying to be happy he was going. One of his closer friends, Theodore, was in attendance once again and he was hoping to interact with him more than he had in the previous summer camps. But with the ever continuous chaos of Hogwarts, who knew what was to come.

Something he was especially happy about was the fact that they were staying in cabins rather than tents this time. Each one seemed to be equipped with some sort of mascot for it. He couldn't help but cringe when he was placed in the Unicorn cabin, especially when there were cabins such as Dragon and Phoenix. But he wouldn't argue with the staff about it, surely it couldn't be too bad. Which were famous last words.

His mouth dropped open as they entered the cabin, not from amazement but from disgust. "It looks like a clown threw up in here." He looked over at Theodore who seemed to be unabashedly amuse by this cabin, at least for his little sister which was admirable. Rett couldn't help but roll his eyes at the nickname that stuck that he secretly enjoyed. He playfully bumped his shoulder into Theodore's before trying to navigate the cabin, which seemed to be difficult. "How in the world are we supposed to find our way around this?" His thick southern drawl was drawn out as he looked around for some kind of map as he walked further into the space.

Bright. An understatement if she ever heard one in her opinion but Milena replied with a nod. “Very … bright, yes. Very colourful.” While she kept her face polite and impassive, if friendly, a slight note of incredulity at the eyesore slithered its way into her tone of voice. “Not quite what I expected.” Not at all what she expected, really.

Nor had she really expected that someone would bring a pet along to this but perhaps she should have. Hogwarts seemed to be big on pets. Only feeling slightly ridiculous, Milena turned her smile to the cat. “And hello Luci-fur?, was it? It is nice to meet you too, I presume.” She was not quite sure if her response to such an introduction were normal, she did not think she had ever explicitely been introduced to a pet before. But well, when in doubt she would always fall back on her manners. “I must say, I like the name.” It was certainly intriguing.

“Are you a student of Hogwarts?”, she asked curiously. Judging by the girl's English, she assumed it was her native language, which made it likely that she was either a Hogwarts or an Ilvermorny student and given that they were at the former school, its students were probably more numerous so she thought it to be the safer bet. Then again, her mother's side of the family ensured that her and her siblings' English was pretty much on par as well. Still, the girl seemed to be one of the younger students.

Idly she noted that there seemed to be no familiar faces around. Was she the only Durmstrang student assigned to this cabin? Or maybe they were merely delayed for one reason or another? She was a bit sad that Alisa and her had not been assigned to the same cabin. Last year she had shared a tent with her best friend and it would have been nice to have a friendly face with her. Or rather, a familiar face, it was not like the people she could see looked particularly unfriendly.

Ah, summer camp. Gabriella had been looking forward to this year's summer camp far more than she would dare to admit to anyone except maybe Atlas - not even Gia. It wasn't that her friendship with Gia wasn't strong - on the contrary, Gia was the best friend she could wish for - but her connection with Atlas was different, something deeper, something stronger. She had told Atlas things she could never dream of telling Gia. The long, arduous therapy sessions of July were finally behind her; Julie's grilling psychoanalyses could be left behind for another few months, and now all there was to do was enjoy herself.
And she was almost certain that she could enjoy herself, too - as long as she wasn't put in a cabin with Tory. Gabriella knew Tory was coming - she had seen the sign-up sheets - and though she knew she could put up with a couple of painful interactions, a whole summer of it would be impossible to bear.

Gabby listened intently as the cabin lists were read out. Gia's name went by, off into the Occamy group. Rhea went into Phoenix - which was good, as it would have been extremely awkward if they had shared a cabin - as did a few more names she recognised. Gabriella herself was placed in the Unicorn cabin, and it was with delight that she realised she hadn't been placed with Tory. She wasn't with many friends either, in fact she hadn't heard of most of the people on her list, but at least that gave her the chance to get to know some people. Tory was placed into Hippogriff cabin, and Gabby made a mental note to stay well away from it.

The cabin, when Gabriella finally came to enter it, was unlike anything she had been expecting. Sure, as a muggle-born she knew all about unicorn culture, but she had always imagined them to be very different creatures through wizarding eyes.

Evidently not, however.

The cabin she found herself in was the brightest, boldest room she had ever entered - one might go so far as to say it was an eyesore. Cosy enough, and it looked comfortable - homely corners and nooks and crannies and tunnels could be seen everywhere she looked, and Gabby could easily imagine herself hiding away somewhere to read a book or do some art and never being found - but it wasn't particularly nice, truth be told.

A few students were already in the cabin when Gabby showed up - three people she had never met - two boys and a girl - and Aurora, whom she had met on numerous occasions but hadn't really got to know properly. "Hello!" said Gabriella cheerily, sidling up next to Aurora with a beam. "Oops, sorry - I didn't see you there," she added, as she realised that her fellow Ravenclaw was actually already engaged in a conversation, a conversation with the girl she didn't know. Judging by her European accent, the other girl wasn't a Hogwarts student. Gabriella extended an arm to shake the unknown girl's hand. "I'm Gabriella Haworth," she said - "um, Gabby. Hogwarts. It's great to meet you!"

Lavinia had finally come to summer camp. It what taken all of her courage just to get on the train to come and now that she was here, it had all disappeared. This wasn’t what her plan was for her summer over a month ago but, the train ride home had changed that. She had told Elena and Bloom that she would show up at camp this year. They had convinced her that it would be fun and so Lavinia asked her parents if she could go. They immediately said yes and wanted her to make more friends so they sent her to camp.

The building excitement was very little though as much as her parents tried to excite her, the fear was still there. Something could always go wrong as everything did. Hopefully she wouldn’t be caught in the crossfire though and would have a good time at camp. Arriving at the campgrounds, she was so happy to hear that there were rules regarding camp. Getting her cabin assignment, she found herself in front of the Unicorn cabin. The flag outside was interesting and Lavinia actually was wondering what the inside looked like. She was going to be staying in this cabin for a month and couldn’t go back home so it was one to get acquainted with it.

Walking into the cabin, her jaw literally dropped. The whole place was decked out in rainbows. It was absurd. Was this supposed to make her happy about coming to camp? It was so bright and Lavinia wasn’t a huge fan. She liked more of the blues and lighter colors. This was just so bright. The biggest thing was, there was no big common area. There was only a lot of small tunnel looking areas. How on earth was she going to find her way around this place? Looking around the small beginning area, Lavinia saw her cabin mates, or at least all the ones that were here so far. Some seemed to be from the other schools and two of them she recognized from the quidditch team.

She was going to talk to them in a little bit for now her goal was to find a room to put down her stuff. By some miracle she found where the rooms were and picked out one for herself. It wasn’t the first door but one of the last ones so that she could possibly have a bit of privacy. Opening the door to the room, she was much more pleased with the color scheme. It was cloud themed and was blues and whites. Placing her stuff in the small closet, she was glad that she had her own room and headed back towards where the people were.

The two quidditch members were still there and Lavinia was about to talk to them alone but decided that it might be better to just talk to the collective group. Smiling at everyone, she said, “Hi everyone, I’m Lavinia from Hogwarts!” Then she looked around a little bit and a slight look of uncomfortableness masked her face. Speaking again she pointed out, “This cabin theme is really something, isn’t it?”

Letters would arrive, simple small white envelopes that were sealed with a drop of wax and a singular divot reminiscent of the side of a quill. The letters were for the Ravenclaws housed in this cabin. Identical in raw form, their names written individually on their own personal envelope.

They would be found there first thing in the morning on Aug 8, whoever had dropped them off had done so at an incredibly early hour. If one must know, it was a little after five in the morning. The letters were pushed under the front door and awaited the Ravenclaws when they rose.

For those that were aware, that had paid attention over the past year, no several. The message was obvious and clear. For those that had not paid attention, had the good fortune to avoid the drama and mayhem, were simply too new to know the terrors that awaited them in the wizarding world away from the diligent protection of their parents, they would be left with a mystery to solve in a matter of mere hours. Ravenclaws were the sort that always enjoyed a good riddle, a bit of intellectual flair to their otherwise humdrum days. The promise of a mystery, a puzzle, something to solve would be enough to draw them out.

Put an end to one more thorn.

Admittedly, it was not bright. It was a complete masterpiece. Shining, shimmering, splendid. Though, not exactly a sea of tents like what she was expecting. “Yeah, to be honest, I was expecting it to be dull and boring. “But this-” Brown eyes gazed around the room, "-this is heaven.” She closed her eyes and laid back on the couch, both of her hands raised in the air as a gesture of happiness while hitting Lucifur in the process causing him to meow and bite her arm playfully, then jumped from her shoulder and sniffing everything in the room as a cat does. On second thought, after a couple of minutes of enjoying the view, the intense colour choices started to make her eyes a little watery. Who did design this magnificent monstrosity? Though, she would blame the furball for causing her ‘allergy’ to act up. “Ah, thanks. I was inspired by the devil himself, Lucifer Morningstar.” The name has a history. The first couple of weeks the cat was on her side, she couldn’t bear the itchiness feeling on her nose with many many asthma attacks because of his delicate white fur. Despite the name origin was from the fallen angel, the white cat was entirely a loving creature. A total opposite from how the muggle literature or movies portrayed the rightful owner of the name.

What was it like to be in a different magical school? Curiosity always peeked in whenever she saw students from other places other than Hogwarts. The one thing she wanted to know was their security. Would it be better? Questions that lingered inside her mind was the monsters. However, that would not be a good idea to ask, especially if the foreign student has zero clues about what happened in Hogwarts. She did not want to scare her, of course. Though, maybe a warning would be useful. “Yes, it’s my second year-” Both eyes shifted to the cat who was just poking every object he encountered, “-And his first time in Hogwarts, he looks beyond excited.” Clapped her hands in immeasurable adoration towards her pet, then she felt something, or rather someone slipped beside her, Gabriella Hogwarts, or something, one of the Ravenclaw’s first string beaters. Aurora was never really good at memorizing names. They had never interacted before outside the pitch, so this might be a good moment to bond with her fellow quidditch team. “O-oh hi, f-first string b-beater!”

The last Ravenclaw match with the Slytherin was a total disaster. If she remembered correctly, Gabriella was knocked out of her broom. Or it might be someone else she could not recall. But the fact she was not in the tower when the shadowy spider attacked was somewhat relieving, knowing that she did not have to deal with the bites and dreadful sight. “How are you?” And yet again, another familiar face approached the common area, another girl from the quidditch team. “Hi, Lavinia! It is really something.”
