Something Wicked
Saturday, October 2nd
One hour before dinner
"The farther we've gotten from the magic and mystery of our past,
the more we've come to need Halloween."
- Paula CuranOne week prior, a notice had been posted outside of the Great Hall inviting all current or prospective members of the Frog Choir to meet for practice in the Rehearsal Room. Formally, owls had been sent to the singers, with a rather excited note from Pericles announcing their chance to perform for the school. The cloudy Saturday was winding down, rain's pitter-patter against the Rehearsal Room windows adding a whimsical ambiance. As one entered the wide room, they would note a number of features; the trademark tables and frog bins to the right, of course, from which emitted a chorus of chirps and croaks. Their singing partners were waiting for them. At the centermost table was a stack of performance pillows, cushions with which to hold one's critter. Alongside it was a box of assorted accessories, all manner of teeny, tiny hats: cowpoke hats, tophats, wix hats, crowns. Odd, yet odder still was the sight to the left, something entirely out of place: a great grey cloud, consuming nearly half of the room. It did not spread out, indicating its magical nature, and @Santario Martin standing nearby with wand raised implied she had cast it. The coordinator, Pericles, was presently seated on the table, ankles hooked and hands holding his choir toad Prospero. By his hip was a bowl of apples, and on his face was that trademark dazed, sleepy sort of smile. He was admiring the cloud conjured by Santario, glancing towards the door expectantly from time to time, patiently awaiting arrivals.

Santario finished casting and turned back to look at Pericles with a giant smile on her face. “Pear, you always look like you’re in some faraway world that is much more pleasant than here.” San teased him lightly though she’d be a liar if she said she didn’t occasionally dream of a place better than Hogwarts. They were third-year together and had both been with the frog choir since their first dueling captains, and Prefects, so like most people in her life, she called him by a nickname. A shortened variation of his full name in his case, but she spelled it like the fruit instead.Open to Interactions
Her free arm, none other than Mr. Toadsworth, could be seen nestled in comfortably with a tiny silver crown resting on his head. It was well known that the moment Santario entered as frog choir practice, she couldn’t be parted with her little frog friend. They had worked together for two years now, and if she had been allowed to keep him as her own pet, she would have, but she knew he was well cared for, and that is what mattered most. “How is Prospero doing?” San inquired about the toad in his hands.

Autumn. Could there have been a more magical time of the year? Mmm. Nope. Winter was a close runner up, but without autumn there was no winter. Nothing could beat the scent of dried, bitter leaves riding on chilly wind; or the warm smells of spices such as cinnamon, and cloves married with the sweetness of autumnal squashes, that wafted indoors. There was nothing quite like the season of harvest, and its curious metaphorical bridge between life and death- the equinox before the world went to sleep. Xailah was noted for eating up fall-themed activities, like a bear preparing for winters hibernation. If she consumed enough, she could be kept content for awhile. Mid-January at the most. Late December at the least. It was a little odd, when considering October had been the month that subjected her to the most trauma. But for her, it was one of the only months where the few good things outweighed the bad. There were a handful of treasured memories clasped securely in the twisted talons of those wicked thirty-one days. Schrödingers birthday was also in October. And that alone was enough to keep her happy. For a small while.
Notices for Frog Choir, had been put up in the later part of September- during the week that would creep inevitably into proceeding month. Letters were sent to those already in the club. Xailah had no intention to sing with her fellow choristers at the upcoming fall ball- which was presumed to be the main reason as to why a meeting had been organized. So she had no reason to be going to this little club gathering. Really, she supposed she was attending just to be a bother. What else was she expected to do? It wasn't like she was particularly busy before dinner anyway. Her hips swayed to the distant pattering of rain on glass; as she moved through the corridor leading to the Rehearsal Room, with her usual gliding grace. Utterly alien. Entirely untouchable. Undeniably demanding of notice. Despite having been given permission to bring Schrödinger to Frog Club activities, he did not accompany her. Allowing him to lounge in the dormitories until he could be collected for dinner later, seemed to be a better idea than bringing him to an All-You-Can-Eat amphibian buffet.
Xailah would spy- or rather hear- someone from around the corner, as she turned to step into the room- which she thought felt slightly dewy, perhaps due to the conjured fog. Their voice carried through the space, like the sweet whistle of a nightingale. Who could it be? Santario Martin. Fellow prefect, chorister, reptile enthusiast, and oh- a healing intern too? Oh my. Miss Martin was always a friendly face to have around. She was greeted with a narrow smile; and interruption of her comment on Pericles usual "far away" look. Attention hovered briefly on Santarios shoulder, in search of movement that would imply Kahlan was with her. Xailah was quick to slither into conversation. "He is." She interjected without missing a beat. He was. He was always somewhere better. Her molten gaze fell onto the subject of the commentary; brushing over him until they found rest at his eyes. The cold golds lidded; sweeping over his foggy silvers. She though maybe, if she stared long enough, she could get a glimpse of what was going on inside his little cranium in that fleeting moment- a flicker of shadows- reflected revelations. "If you're one for dusty old clocks, and ideas that don't make much sense; then the inside of his head is absolute bliss." She jutted her chin in Pericles direction, before flittering her attention to Santario. "You've been doing well I hope? And your majesty Lord Toadsworth?"
In truth, she was jealous. Jealous of Pericles mental getaway being so serene and pleasant; or at least as pleasant as he made it out to be. What she would give to live inside a dimensionless imaginary world that also gave the power of selective obliviousness. Xailah shook her head dismissively, and began to gravitated closer towards the table in the rooms center; on which the snow-dusted raven and the clubs amphibious partners were perched. She wouldn't bother to pick up her slimy pal Hop-Frog. Poor fellow. There was a box-that was not ribbiting- that was effectively reeling in Xailahs interest. Once close enough, she peered over the lip of the box, only to be hit with surprise, and the tickle of playful tummy bumblers. Ohhhh. Tiny hat! Tiny hat! "Pericles, I'm not sure you've noticed, but these are a tad too sssmall for us." Clearly humored, and completely enthralled with the tiny objects, she picked up a few. Who knew so much joy could be derived from something so silly as ridiculously small hats. A broad smile split between her rosy lips, as she placed a thimble-sized top hat on the tip of her first digit. She would let out a uncharacteristically girlish coo, followed by a very silly, very quiet thing: "My finger is very dapper." Her long locks quivered happily. Content, she would sit back, and fiddle with the itty-bitty accessories. Play her favored role of observer. Or at least until she was coaxed into doing something else.

A leaf pulled at the spot it was sitting at the tree before it flew away, high upon the tree and over the blue water of the lake.
Henry watched it, his blue eyes following the leaf with a somber expression. The third year wasn't looking forward to the fall, he shivered a little as he had a slight feeling the transformations would be worse for the following months.
The teen stated on his walk toward the rehearsal room with Loki on his right shoulder, he never planned to go to dinner that night. He never planned to see anyone that day besides from his bunk mate but that was before he found out from the president of the frog choir; Pericles that the choir would perform at the fall ball that year.
Henry originally wanted to stay away from the event, the memories of last October haunted him and spending the night alone perhaps with his girlfriend sound better. However plans change and Henry signed up to perform at the fall ball with the rest of the choir for two reasons.
Avery and Rose would be there. The third year heard and seen what could happen at Hogwarts, especially in the month of October.
The teen felt his spine shiver a bit.
So attending with the frog choir seemed alright if he could protect those close to him. Plus he enjoyed singing, it helped him ease his mind and he would be able to see Ulysses again.
"Meow..."
The third year smiled softly at his feline and brushed a few strands of hair from his eyes as he spoke" I already told you, Ulysses is my singing partner almost like how Rose is my singing partner. And you are my pet- well friend, Loki." The feline flick his tail a bit as the teen laughed a little to the amusing fact that he was talking to a feline.
Arriving at the rehearsal room, the third year nearly stepped inside when he spotted the co captain of the Viridian Vipers. Santario Martin.
The third year rather clumsily slid to the left side of the wall and slammed himself up against it while Loki leaped from his right shoulder and stood in the entrance ignoring his owners calls.
Henry looked in a little and nearly fell to the sound of Loki giving a short meow, looking over at his feline as he whispered" I'm not avoiding her!" Carefully peering around the corner into the room, when he spotted her and slammed his head back aginest the wall as he whispered" I'm just not looking forward to talking that's all, with missing the summer games and then the first night back when Victor and everything else happened but not avoiding! No!"
He wasn't avoiding her, just scared of what could come because of his mind and anxiety jumping to the worst possible situations.
"Great I'm talking to a feline," Henry whispered to himself as he stood straight, brushing his hair out of his face and smoothing our his jacket. The teen took a deep breath and hid his emotions behind the 'barrier' as he turned to Loki and nodded toward him, " go in, practice and then leave. Simple... uh right?"
The teen nodded at his feline as he gave a low whistle indicating Loki to follow him.
The pair entered the room, looking around Henry gave another low whistle before speaking" stay off to the side and don't go after any frogs, Loki." Henry watched as Loki wandered off to a frogless side and curled up into a orange ball. It was a good thing the feline wasn't motivated to chase or hunt small, prey type animals.
Henry walked over to the frogs and would reach for Ulysses, smiling at the frog as he held him on his hand which was when he spotted the little hats that he guessed would be for the frogs.
The teen would walk over to the small group already there, giving a soft and brief smile toward Santario before looking over at Pericles as he spoke" I hope you don't mind but my feline joined me, he'll stay out of our way and won't go after the frogs. I promise," the teen then turned to the other there; Xailah Alptraum whom he only knew her name from the auditions last year, giving her a soft smile and speaking"hello."

@Santario Martin | @Xailah Alptraum | @Henry Knight | Anyone else enteringPericles blinked back to the moment come Santario's words, and when Xailah joined in, his smile turned awkward while a tinge of color reached his cheeks. His escapist tendencies were once caused by boredom. They waned with the excitement of his first year, but come the third, stress was a more plausible culprit. It preserved him, checking out of the chaos. If only for a little while.... "I was thinking about the bay back home, in Plymouth," he explained, a vague wave of his hand gesturing towards the cloudy wall which occupied the opposite half of the room. "It looks just like when the sea mist rolls in." A moment more of admiring her handiwork, then "Nicely done, San." She asked about Prospero, who was just using a fat webby hand to shove a miniature top hat off of his head, letting it topple onto the floor. Pericles snorted softly. "Not a fan of hats, I'm afraid, but otherwise alright." At least someone seemed to like them: Xailah. Her enthusiasm elicited a warm expression, as the simple pleasure she derived from the funny little things was precisely what he'd hoped to bring them. "They're intended for our singing partners to wear at the ball, if they like... though you could keep one for your finger, since it suits you."
Henry mentioned he'd brought along his cat, Loki, to which Peri assured "I don't mind at all, though, you might want to make sure he doesn't follow you into the fog. If you're going to be participating, that is." Which, he realized, was exactly the lead-in he needed to explain to them what they were doing there. He would wait a moment more for other members to file in, greeting them with waves and nods, until at last there were enough around to get things going properly. "As I mentioned in my letters, we've been invited to sing at the Fall Ball. I won't keep you all for long, only for a song or two, but I do want to be sure we're all prepared and confident. Hopefully, you're all fans of dramatic entrances. As part of our performance, San is going to be conjuring some fog for us to move through, so I've decided to set us up with a little exercise." He slid from the table, then turned towards it, gently sending Prospero to rejoin his amphibian friends in a mossy bin. Two objects took the toad's place. "To be cautious, we'll practice with a pillow and an apple. Balance as you move through the fog, careful not to trip, and especially careful not to drop it. Remember, it isn't a race- we'll be moving slowly during the performance, it'll be best for you to pace yourself." The Ravenclaw plucked a cobalt pillow with silvery tassels from the heap, lifted an apple from the bowl, and set it at the center, turning towards them as if to say Like so. "Who wants to try?"Navigating the FogSummary: explaining the fog to those present, and anyone arriving
In this minigame, our characters will try to find their way through the Nebulus. Their ability to move around obstacles inside will be based in the obstruction's "Accuracy" versus their Evasion. If they trip, a separate roll based in Wisdom will be made to see if they drop their apple. More specifics will be in my moderation post, which should be going up in 7-8 days! Until then, please mention if your OC is participating. Stamina won't be taken into consideration because this obstacle course is not dangerous.

Hogwarts really was different. Della hadn't joined her muggle school choir, but she was pretty sure they just stood on the stands and sang. But here, they would need to navigate magical fog, and all the singing frogs had little hats. Even better—to participate, Della didn't even have to sing!@Pericles Dralt | @Henry Knight | @Xaliah Alptraum | @Santario Martin
Della surveyed the choir. Not too many first years had joined, or at the very least, they weren't here yet. She hoped she wouldn't trip or fall in the fog and embarrass herself in front of the older kids. If she couldn't carry an apple, could she be trusted to carry a frog?
Yet, traversing the fog was probably simple. Pericles wasn't making it a true competition or a race. It was rehearsal. And yesterday, Della had participated in her first duel—a six-person duel at that! Choir practice should be a piece of cake.
Since so few people had assembled at this point, Della knew it would be awkward to not introduce herself as the only newbie. Pericles knew her name; he had seen her "audition." She turned to the other three, "Hi, my name's Della. I'm a new frog handler." She eyed the frogs in their little bins, excited for when she got to the handling part of choir.

Something Wicked
Interacting with sort of everyone, to be honest
Serena shuffled down the corridor, feeling a little nervous. She was used to randomly starting up conversations with any random person, making small talk at parties and being friendly. But there was a feeling of nervousness that would stir every time she had to do something like this. She had no idea why it was any different, perhaps it was not. However, joining a club felt a bit more like they were judging whether or not you were worthy to join their group and that was perhaps why she felt a bit awkward about it. No one wanted to be judged.
Now that she thought about it... that might be why she never really joined a dance club, even though she did enjoy dancing. Exhaling audibly outside of the rehearsal room, she knocked on the door before poking her head in. Serena opened her mouth to ask if this was the right place but her gaze fell onto the decor before she could say anything. There were so many frog-themed items around, including what looked like a box of the most adorable tiny hats she had ever seen! "Ahhhh! That's so cute!" Her nervousness quickly started to dissipate as a grin formed on her face. From the distance - still at the door - she could not see exactly what the hats were made of but they looked adorable and that was enough.
Turning away from the cuteness, she observed the people in the room. She recognised a few of them, though she did not really know any of them all that well. Passing comments or a bit of small talk, if that, in most occasions. Making her way over to the table where most people seemed to be, "Hey guys! I am here to audition, I guess? I was hoping to join the frog choir," Serena explained, hoping someone would tell her what she had to do exactly because she had no idea how to audition for this. Wait - "To be a frog handler, to clarify! I don't sing!" She quickly added, realising that she needed to make that clear before they asked her to sing. Oh gosh. That would have been so embarrassing. She was not a singer. Well, she was more like a bathroom singer and that was about it.
"I don't really have a ton of experience with frogs but I love them and I'm willing to learn. I'd like to think I'm pretty good at handling small creatures though. This guy has done pretty well so far," She continued, pointing to Pizza Rat that was nestled on the top of her head, which seemed to be his favourite spot. She had given up trying to get him to sit anywhere else and just learned to improve her posture or walk without moving her head around as much. Pizza would not adjust, so she had to! He was likely sleeping on her head though by now. "I like all pets but let's be fair, these critters don't get enough love. So... yeah, I thought I'd come by and uh, see if I could help out!" Serena concluded her speech, not entirely sure what else to say.
She looked over to the fog as Pericles explained what it was for. It suddenly made more sense. She just figured they weirdly really liked not being able to see or something. Clubs are weird, sometimes, okay? Though, it sounded pretty fun. She was not really one of the singers, so it was not for her but... it sounded fun. Raising her hand a little - as though she was in class - "I know I'm not a singer but uh I wouldn't mind giving it a go, if that's alright...? Well, if this guy wakes up... Eh, Pizza's been through worse," She mumbled the last part, realising that a little bit of mist wouldn't do anything to him when he had literally been through way worse on his own.

"He's well behaved so he shouldn't," Henry replied to the president of the choir, taking a few steps behind the two girls as he listened to Pericles talk about the performance for the fall ball and the actively that they will be doing that day to help them prepare for the performance.
Henry worked on his aim and accuracy over the summer holiday mainly for dueling, flashes of past duels flashed within his mind where he missed a spell or two. The teen didn't want to experience the same failure again that year so he practiced every aspect he could manage without magic in dueling over the summer.
Walking through smoke while holding Ulysses now the third year was nervous to do mainly since he didn't want to drop his singing partner as he moved back over to the others toad. Placing Ulysses back in his spot as he softly smoked at the frog, silently telling him that he'll hold him again after the actively.
Walking back toward the group, Henry noticed another enter the classroom. A girl with white hair who he haven't seen before, introducing herself as Della whose a new frog handler. The third year offered her a soft smile, blue eyes looking at her own as he spoke" please to meet you, Della. I'm Henry," the teen smiled softly toward her before turning to the group waiting for someone else to participate in the actively before him since he had a strange feeling that he would fail.
Henry looked around, wondering who would go first as his mind drifted toward his dueling captain. They haven't had a proper conversation since returning to Hogwarts and granted it Henry was partly avoiding her afraid of her reaction to him missing the summer games but still a small part of him wanted to tell her or at least have a actual conversation... esepcailly from the rather chaotic and possibly awful first night back. However his attention would be drawn to another, possibly older girl that entered the room and seemed to be filled with energy or chatter.
Following along to the girl's words, Henry listened and wondered why she didn't want to sing. The third year thought being a frog handler was cool to but couldn't help but wonder why she didn't want to sing, curious about her voice and name... he didn't exactly know her name and didn't hear her say it either leaving him to wonder if the others knew her. It would wouldn't be the first time that he was left in the darkness...
The girl explained her experience and reasons to why she wanted to join as a frog handler, watching her with blue eyes when he noticed the rodent sleeping on her shoulder. The teen couldn't help but smile a little at it and took a few steps closer, wondering if he should ask to pet the creature.
However, Loki beat his owner to the action walking up to the older but slightly shorter girl and rubbed against her legs giving a short meow to her. The feline waited a few moments by her side before running off to the side of tho classroom and taking his seat again, amber eyes watching the group.
"That was Loki and I'm Henry, " the third year spoke to her with a soft smile, looking at her before turning his eyes to her pet as he spoke" so his name is pizza? He's bloody adorable," the teen would wait till someone else did the fog activity first before stepping up and taking a pillow with a apple on it and taking a step to walk through the fog.

While typically Starlee was rather organized, she did happen to forget about certain events, especially if she forgot to write them down in her planner. Which, of course, is what she had done for the frog choir practice.
She had been down in the common room studying when it hit her. She shot up out of bed, saying aloud to herself, "I- Frog choir practice!" before grabbing her bag and rushing up the stairs to the rehearsal room.
To say she was excited about their upcoming performance would be an understatement. While they hadn't performed at all the year prior, she had rather enjoyed getting to know her little toad, which she had aptly named Bubbles for his bubbly personality. She couldn't wait to finally get on stage with the little guy with both of them singing and croaking their little hearts out.
She ran into the room just as Pericles began explaining what they would be doing at their practice. She was breathing heavily, which she tried to quiet so she wouldn't be quite so much of a disruption to the group. She continued to sneak quietly into the room, and set her bag down, listening as she did so.
'An obstacle course in the fog, eh? Sounds like fun!' She certainly thought this was a good idea, she wanted to keep her froggy friend safe. She was excited to see just how creative Pericles was with their performance as well, they certainly wanted to give a good first show to everyone at the ball!
Since Bubbles wouldn't be needed until after the activity, Starlee walked next to Henry, and said hello. "Heya Henry! I, uh, I almost forgot about this!" she said to him with a sheepish look. "It looks like fun though!" She turned to the two newcomers to introduce herself to them as well. "Hi, I'm Starlee! Nice to meet you both!' She would smile warmly at them, feeling comfortable in her surroundings.
She would get ready to go into the fog with a pillow and apple in hand when called, hoping that it all went smoothly.
