"...the Rehearsal Room provided an escape for those who needed it,
convincing students that it was never too late to try."
- Description by Margo WhiteEight days had passed since the posters appeared around the school.
An attempt was being made to revitalize a perfectly obscure, perfectly bizarre tradition: singing with frogs and toads. It was just the funny sort of thing witches and wizards would come up with. But surely, there must be some credit given to the concept. Evidence was already in play when one stepped into the rehearsal room, which was filled with the ambiance of amphibians. Frogs chirped happy tunes, toads rattled their resonant croaks, harmonious as if they, too, were warming up for the audition. Perhaps there was something magical about the mucus-y animals which made them keen towards music. They seemed to have a natural knack for keeping time, enough sentience to align their voices with song, and more intelligence than their feral brethren so as to not wet their combinations when picked up. They were also excited. The frogs had been safely kept in one of the greenhouses, guarded by the Professor of Herbology (and volunteer choir conductor). Today, for the first time in ages, they had all been brought into the castle. They didn't have the capacity to know why, but there was a chance they recalled what this had meant for them the last time. Before, a few lucky creatures had been picked from bins and given the chance to sing with a human. Their kind had been familiars to magic folk for centuries, though they were considerably less loved by recent generations. Today was their chance to finally shine in the eyes of a wix.
They weren't waiting alone. Too stirred to sit, Pericles Dralt was standing near the collection of ribbitting bins, presently regarding the face of a pocket watch. He had reserved the rehearsal room for a short window, not wishing to hog it away from the rest of the school though set on providing his auditioners some privacy, and the seconds were ticking down. Breakfast had been an orange he unceremoniously wolfed down, then a biscuit he'd eaten on the way here. Any moment now, most students would be finished eating their reasonably-paced meals, free to spend Saturday as they pleased. All he had to do was wait and see who among them would attend. The second-year had dressed plainly, if neatly, with a black button-down shirt and slacks. His glasses were tucked into a shirt pocket, which would explain why he was squinting so severely at his clock. Yet as the door swung ajar and the first few auditioners trickled in, he pocketed it, warm smile springing into place.
"Hello! Here for the Frog Choir then? Please, don't be shy. While we wait for the others, you ought to come and look for your potential partner. They don't bite, so you're welcome to take them out. Just mind that you don't have any breakfast left over on your hands."
ReducioWELCOME to this year's first (and likely only) Frog Choir audition! Any student set on becoming a member may join in, as can any current chorister. I'm hosting this to give us an IC boost as I revitalize the club. However, auditioning in this RP isn't required to become a member. If you'd like to join the group, but don't want to attend the scene, you can fill out the full application on our club thread. Feel free to join in or opt out, and as always, my owls are open if you have any questions. I'll try posting to this every 7-10 days max, and I'm aiming to close it in the next 2-3 months.

Henry walked through the corridors with his hands in his pocket as he felt his stomach flip flop. The twelve year old saw the poster for the frog choir and has always had some strange likening for singing probably because of the lessons he had to go through when he was younger or perhaps it was another reason. Maybe it was the feeling that being a part of the frog choir would ensure he was a part of s club making a change in a way or being a part of the group.
The twelve year old checked his jacket pocket to ensure his wand was safely tucked inside it before looking back over at his sheet music that was a bit crumpled in his held from how tightly he was holding it.
Henry had a high treble which allowed him to sing female songs but also was terrified that his voice would be the thing that would get him cut from the choir or laughed at by the others since this would be the first time for Henry to actually sing at Hogwarts even through he remembered meeting with Alexa and agreeing to sing Broadway songs with her in private of course but the boy was still rather excited for it as the twelve year old thought about singing with the red head a warm feeling washed over him that was odd to Henry and he was too much of a idiot when it came to love that he has yet to identify that he had a crush on Alexa.
As Henry drew closer to the rehearsal room, the boy wished that he brought his orange feline Loki but decided to leave him in his dormitory just in case something occur with the frogs. Henry couldn't stop his mind from wandering to situations and words about that audition and the few last hours.
What if I miss up the song? Or sing off key? Or miss a word or lyric? Or... or... or what if I don't belong here? What if the frogs all hate me and the others laugh at my voice? It's unreasonable high unlike the average male and what if they cut me or the laughing start or or... maybe I should leave? Leaveing sounds amazing but I shouldn't no I should... shouldn't... isn't Rose going today? I did hear her at the great hall talking about the audition.. more reason to leave! It will be awkward with our parents engaged even after that semi awkward meeting but still I should go..
Ugh.. should I? I should! Or not?
Standing in front of the rehearsal room, Henry took a breath and gripped his sheet music as he held it by his side before pushing the door slightly open and coming across the blonde haired boy he knew as a ravenclaw prefect. Nodding to the boy's monologue before looking toward the frogs then back at the boy as he took a breath before speaking " Hello and yes I'm here for the frog choir auditions. Uh thank you for holding these, should I just wait off to the side then?" The twelve year old then smiled toward the prefect before walking off toward the side where the frogs sat as his eyes drifted over them before looking back down at his sheet music and casually mumbering a few lyrics in a whisper.

Her hosting days were over. After the premature abandonment of the HHAWT Club, Xailah knew that it was time to move on to something new. Something a little more tame. She was back on the road again- in search for her part in the play called life. HHAWT had been an... interesting experience- while it lasted. Incredibly confusing, but interesting nonetheless. She had never expected to stay in that club for very long- her Customer Service face sucked, and lets face it, she was never really cut out for such a thing to begin with- but that sense of belonging in which she so craved, had her staying until the clubs downfall.
She had seen the funny little fliers that had been posted all around the school. They advertised a club: Frog Choir. Xailah admittedly had little interest in the club when she still had involvement in her other... extra curricular activities- which was fine really, because she never had an interest in her other activities either. Truthfully, she still lacked an interest- well, she wasn't as excited about it as some others were bound to be. There was interest there, it just mostly went unexpressed. The concept of the Frog Choir was promising. Frogs were neat, and singing was fun- sometimes. It seemed like as good as a place as any, to resurrect her search for purpose- for the most part.
Breakfast was mostly spent in silence, as Xailah mulled over a Frog Choir poster that she had claimed as her own. The auditions were taking place today, and now was the time to decide on whether or not she really wanted to take part in the club. Scooting her eggs around her plate, she weighed the pros and cons- the one con. Cats weren't allowed to come to the audition- or presumably any frog-related event. A great shame. If both creatures were trained to live in harmony, the choir could have been called
Xailah finally broke down once breakfast was nearing its end. She abandoned her plate of eggs- which had hardly been touched- scooped up her cat, and began to head to the Gryffindor common room to put him away. She would then make her way down to the Rehearsal Room. She was not quick to enter the room, upon arrival. She instead decided to lean in the doorway, to inspect the space. Two other people were already there: a peculiar boy holding some papers, as well as Xailahs friend, and the club president- Pericles Dralt. Hopefully the latter wouldn't question her presence. She would say nothing to Pericles, but her eyes would narrow at him in a friendly manner, as she listen to his instruction. The Gryffindor would wander over to the croaking bin. Obviously it was where the frogs were being kept. The lioness peered over the lip of the bin, and stared down at all the little amphibians inside. Her brow creased. "Schrödinger is going to be so mad at me." Selecting a new (temporary) companion? This was complete and utter betrayal.

Santario had been apart of the Frog choir for a little over a year now, not that anything had really happened with it. Though that had not been Pericles fault as the young man had not been running the club at the time. No, in fact, Mr. Pericles Dralt had been the one trying to breathe life back into it, and San was appreciative of this. Especially if it meant that she could spend time with her frog friend, Mr. Toadsworth.
Last year when she did her audition, it had been the first time that she had allowed herself to sing in front of other people willingly. Usually, she could be caught humming while she thought she was alone, but it would be rare to catch the girl off guard enough to hear her sing when it wasn’t in the choir bounds. A song that could be recognized by those who attended the last audition was hummed as she made her way to the rehearsal room.
Santario opened the door to the rehearsal room to see three people she knew for three entirely different reasons. Of course, Pericles had been first met in the frog choir last year, Henry was formally met during duelling, and Xailah she officially had met over the summer. Though she would have preferred it to have been better circumstances with the latter. However, she was very aware of Xailah’s cat Schrödinger, of which she was admittedly a little sad not to see. “Greetings, everyone!” A smile and a head nod given to all as she made her way across the room towards their frogs and toads. “No Schrödinger today?” She asked Xail as she bent down and picked up none other than Mr. Toadsworth. Santario, for most here, uncharacteristically listed Mr. Toadworth up to her face and gently booped his nose against the tip of hers. “Hello dear friend. I’ve missed you.” This would be followed by a deep bass croak as she nestled him comfortable into her arms while returning her gaze to Xail, making sure the Gryffindor knew that she was still paying attention if she answered San’s question. A little lizard could be seen curled up in San’s hair on her left shoulder if observed.

It hadn't taken the first-year very long to spot the posters in the hall for the upcoming frog choir auditions. Starlee practically scanned the announcements boards all the time for new things to do, her energy knowing no bounds. Up to this point, the various clubs she had seen just hadn't interested her, but she wasn't going to stop looking.
She also felt like there was something missing from her life at Hogwarts: Music. Starlee had been classically trained in Piano, and it was something she had always loved to do in her spare time. However, she missed the aspects of performing with a group. The moment she saw those flyers appear, she knew she had finally found the right club for her.
The day of the audition finally came and Starlee felt as confident as ever. She had taken time to practice her singing, to the best of her abilities, and was so excited to finally find a club she felt she could truly be a part of. She put on a sweater, in tune with her typical comfy casual style, but paired it with a skirt, wanting to look good for the audition. She ran up to the Great Hall, woofed down a bagel, and made her way happily up to the Rehearsal room, singing to herself along the way.
When she arrived, there were already a few people mingling around. She only knew two of these people, Henry and Santario. She noticed the group gathering around what appeared to be a large bin filled with frogs and toads, so she headed her way over to them to see what the fuss was about. She waved at Henry, smiling and saying a quick "Hello!", as the boy seemed to be very invested in his papers, and she gave a brief smile as well to her dueling co-captain as she approached both her and another, certainly older, student at the bin of frogs.
She looked down and around at the large grouping of toads in the bin, all of various shapes and sizes, and wondered which one she should pick. It appeared Santario had a toady friend already, and Starlee couldn't help but smile at how cute they were. "Awww, aren't they adorable?" she cooed, directing her comment both at Santario and the frogs and toads in the bin. It would be nice to have another new little friend here! She had just recently gotten her owl over the holiday break, but Starlee was a friend to all animals. But also... now she had the hard part of picking one out... this was not going to be easy.

Rose was nothing short of absolutely and completely terrified. Today were the auditions for the Frog Choir. Not only did Rose have stage fright that most of the time made her completely freeze up when she was preforming, but she also thought of her voice as horrible. She thought that everyone had a lot more skill and talent than she did, and very much doubted that she had any chance whatsoever getting into the Frog Choir. The lioness was scared that she was going to embarrass herself either by messing up, or, even worse, demonstrating that she was lacking any musical talent at all.
That wasn't true, of course- Rose actually had a beautiful voice. But nobody had told her that except for her family before and Rose didn't take a lot of the compliments from her family seriously. Her family was always, always supportive even if she wasn't as successful as she wanted to be, and, as a family, they were kind of obligated to support her in everything she did. She barely ever believed any compliments they told her. Maybe she needed a little nudge to boost her self-esteem. Being accepted into the Frog Choir would do just that. But that didn't mean that she wasn't so scared she could hardly breathe as she made her way to the rehearsal room. She hadn't really wanted to go to this part of the castle after the Fall Ball- it had been kind of hard to think about, Anastasia Beckett ruining her life and all. Rose made a point to not look in the direction of the ballroom as she swiftly passed it.
So why was she doing this, anyway? If she was so scared, why was she even approaching the room? Well, for one- Rose knew she had to tackle this fear sometime. Deep, deep down, she didn't want to keep thinking of herself as horrible her entire life, and she didn't want to be this terrified the next time she did something like this. Because (two), Rose loved singing. She loved pushing the limits of her vocal range, and loved each way every song was different in its own way- in mood, in lyrics, in the key- Rose just loved music. And she loved that she could create it with her voice. So she was very much looking forward to learning and preforming the songs with her choir mates- she just hated singing alone. Last but certainly not least- it wasn't just any choir.
She got to sing with a frog or a toad! Rose loved animals- all sizes, shapes, and colors- and could barely wait to meet the frogs that she could possibly be singing with. So, as she came in the rehersal room and an announcement was made, telling her and some other arrivals that they could look at the frogs and toads, that was where Rose headed. She crouched down, playing with some of the frogs- it let off some of the tension inside of her, thankfully. She would be okay, even if she bombed this audition. She would be okay.
She had seen some people she recognized on the way in- Henry, most specifically, and had given him a little wave. Then there were some who she only vaguely recognized, like the girl she once did an errand with that one time.

Looking for a partner and at frogs, open to interactions.
Simon was familiar with the Rehearsal Room as it had been one of his regular hang out spots in the Castle. Being a boy who mostly had to stay indoors, that brought him more limited choices when it came to recreation than the other students of Hogwarts. He mostly had his dorm, the Hufflepuff Common Room, the Library, or the Rehersal Room. Even the Great Hall was tossed out, as he spent limited time there. While he adored the amount of people there at meal times, the food was never much to his taste nor did his appetite agree, plus it was segregated out by Houses and one couldn't always so easily talk with friends.
Anyway, a couple days ago he saw something fascinating - an advertisement for a frog choir. A frog choir?! At first he thought he had somehow misread it, so he had looked it over once more. Back in London, Simon was a member of his church's children's choir and had also been a member of his muggle school choir for many years. One year he was even in the production of "The Sound of Music." Still, he couldn't quite say he had ever sung with frogs before. Magic - it was brilliant.
He found his way in and smiled to the boy that greeted everyone. There was mention to maybe find a partner and his eyes scanned around, seeing the familiar face of his friend Henry Knight but maybe he already had chosen his partner. No matter.
"Does anyone still need a partner? I come with recommendations," he smiled.
But then the frogs around the room caught his attention and he walked over to them. They were fascinating! "Hi all of you! Do you have to audition as well?" he asked the frogs, not really expecting them to talk back, but just because. They were living creatures after all and didn't everyone like a little interaction?
Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

As the number of auditioners grew, so too did Pericles' excitement. The polite smile he'd worn for the duration of the small spiel was now warm and wide, bringing light to his eyes. He raised a hand as Henry confirmed he'd come to try out, returning "Thank you for coming," then gave a light shrug at the coming question. "If you like," the Ravenclaw stated simply. That was the one trouble with having Pericles for a director: he wasn't especially assertive or authoritative. When he needed to be, he could emulate these traits well enough, but didn't seem to find them necessary when it came to operating a club. He was calm, casual, nonchalant, more interested in letting members function at their own comfort level. It was an easygoing attitude, though it may have played a part in these auditions being put off for so long....{ @Henry Knight | @Xailah Alptraum | @Santario Martin | @Starlee Kennedy | @Rose Moon | @Simon Kincaid }
Xailah was a comfortingly familiar face. He met her expression, saying nothing out loud, though the amount of time the two friends spent hanging out had put them past pleasantries. Peri conveyed his elation with a mute look, loosing a puff of amused air at Schrödinger's mention. Sheepishly he offered, "You may tell him I was the one that said no cats," a rueful smile, "though I hope he won't hold it against me. Maybe, with a little patience, we could try introducing him to practices.... If I am being honest, Athena inspired the rule." An awkward shadow was cast over his glowing mood. "I brought her along when I was tending them one weekend. She didn't seem all too happy with me for feeding other animals, especially the sort that look like cat snacks." Thankfully, there was no actual pouncing involved, but the look in her eye and twitch in her tail had been enough incentive not to take his chances. Someone else was bringing their pet along, though it would prove a harmless, even welcome addition to the room.
Santario's lizard was noticed almost as soon as she entered. This stoked Peri's curiosity, though he would have been just as glad to see the witch without an interesting addition. She had shown patience for the conceptual choir, attending its initial audition as well as a meeting when ownership was transfered to Pericles. He was relieved to see her back in spite of silence on his end, and was certain Mr. Toadsworth shared the sentiment. "Good to see you again, Santario," he called fondly. Something about the Slytherin used to make him assume she was an upper-classman, at least until he spotted her in classes. Less familiar faces joined the fray: Starlee, Rose, and Simon. Peri smiled encouragingly to the first, welcomed the second with a wave, and answered the third at a content mutter. "No need to partner up, aside from finding a frog or toad," he began, then seemed to have seconds thoughts, adding: "but you're welcome to do a duet, if that's more to your comfort." This was addressed to all present. He didn't necessarily need to hear their voices individually; he wasn't so strict as to insist otherwise.
With more faces peering over the edges of their bins, the amphibians became more animated. They greeted the witches and wizards with a cacophony of croaks, chirps, trills, grunts, squeaks, and friendly chatter. Some were small and shared spaces with one or two others of their kind. Many of the toads were so irregularly enormous, they had a bin to themselves, though this might also have been a precaution against "accidents" with the littler critters. Eventually remembering he was meant to direct and organize, Pericles announced, "Take your time in selecting a partner. Whenever you're ready to sing, you need only to say so." No stepping up onto a stage, no standing in line, no being placed on the spot by order of arrival. They were free to announce their audition at any moment.

Rose crouched down in front of the cages holding the frogs and toads. She would look through a few of them, glad to have something take her mind off of her pounding heart and rushing brain. Her gaze caught on a certain toad, though. A toad, who also seemed to be warming up, croaking for her. He was a little spotted lad, mostly different shades of brown. She watched his throat puff up impressively as he gave out a croak, making Rose smile. She knew that a lot carried on this one choice- this one picking of a frog or a toad, but she didn't really want to take her time choosing one. Maybe she would just choose this guy.
Rose opened the door of his cage, reaching her hands out to cup the little guy gently in her hands. She would talk to him softly and look him in his very round eyes, as if they were having a private conversation. "Hey there, mister." He gave a blink in response. "I'm not sure what to name you yet, or if you have a name already, but do you wanna be my p-" she was interrupted by yet another of his croaks, making her laugh, which gave short relief to a little bit of tension inside of her. "I'll take that as a yes." The toad obviously had no idea what she was saying (or maybe he did?), but he wasn't wiggling in her hands or trying to eat her or anything, so he must have been okay with being in her hands. He was just so chill. "Maybe I'll call you Squirt."
In one hand, she would hold him close to her chest, and she would walk over to Henry, hovering close to him. "Are you ready?" They had planned to do a duet together, mostly because Rose was absolutely terrified, and also because they were good friends- so why not? Rose had picked out the song, from one of her favorite musical movies. Henry wouldn't have heard of it before (probably), and they had practiced and practiced together in an arrangement they had made themselves. Rose took in a deep breath, and when Henry agreed to them going ahead and auditioning, Rose and him came over to Pericles, saying, "We're gonna sing a duet, since you said it's okay. Um, yeah, we're ready to... audition," she informed him quite eloquently, her face warm.
They would step back, and Rose would take a deep, shaky breath, feeling it fill her lungs and then be expelled. The song they had chosen had them trading off in singing, and Rose going first. She would start, "I close my eyes..." and would keep singing, her voice trembling and soft at the beginning. She slowly forced herself into confidence, standing up straight to support her sound with her shoulders back. The resonance in here was excellent, making her sound better than she had thought. Her voice was very angelic, and the song did fit with her voice range. By the time she got to the chorus, she was projecting her voice and hitting every note perfectly.
She then quieted down as Henry had his own solo, singing the next verse and chorus. Rose personally thought he rocked it. By now, the practiced nature of the song made it feel so comfortable to sing. As they flowed into the harmonies between the two, Rose glanced at her friend, happiness and pride in her eyes. Their amphibian partners added perfect accents, too, even though they had not practiced this song as many times as Rose had (which had to be a lot more than she knew).
"...For the world we're gonna make."
And just like that, they had done it. Rose smiled awkwardly, suddenly bashful of her performance, but then her and Henry would make their way away, towards the general direction of the amphibian cages. Rose would hold the little guy in one hand, pulling him to her chest, while she rushed forward and hugged Henry, her good friend, with the other, bouncing a little in her happiness. "We did it! I can't believe- we did it, Henry!"

Glancing over the frogs trying to decide which to pick as a partner as a few thoughts drifted toward his feline companion; Loki. Henry had a faint idea that his orange cat wouldn't like the idea of him singing with a frog or another animal but the again Loki also might not care since the cat isn't all that affectionate or loving. Still, the twelve year old didn't know which frog or toad to pick but did it matter maybe he should just chose one and be done with it but what if it did matter.
Finally with his anxiety in the rise, Henry opened the cage of a spotted toad and pick it up. As the second year held the toad in his hand and look at him he spoke, " it seems were going to be partners, uh do you have a name or something or-" before the boy could continue the frog bit his finger causing the twelve year old to yelp out in pain and stumble back a but before eyeing the toad and whispering " alright so no name and questions, just singing right buddy?" Watching the toad on his hand for another minute before holding it at chest level as in his other hand was the sheet music he was still practicing.
Not expecting but also expecting Rose to approach him and ask the question, the boy took a step back and started to imagine situations of their audition causing Henry to ask " wait were going first? Are you sure that's a good idea or maybe we should practice some more or-" bringing himself to a halt as they approached Pericles and nodding along to Rose as he then took his position next to her and still felt his anxiety rise as singing in front of others was something at least for him to panic about.
Rose was going first then him, since his voice was a bit higher which was odd as the song was from a muggle movie that he heard about but never seen nevertheless Rose mention it being a good choice and the twelve year old trusted her as he waited until his part.
Taking a breath before and trying to push out his anxiety as his face became blank like when he's about to duel.
"However big, However small...
Taking steady breaths and focusing his mind to clam himself, the twelve year old voice came out its unusual high singing voice but also smooth as he sung the notes with precision making sure to hit each other at the right moment and right time finding calmness as time and the song went on.
"To the world I close my eyes to see...
I close my eyes to see it..."
The frog on his hand seem to already know the song or what he was doing since he croaked/sung to the temple of the song providing somewhat of a support toward the twelve year old while he sung the lyrics keeping with his steady breaths and relaxing as time went on, glad that they went first.
"For the world were going to make...."
Holding the last note for a few more minutes till ending the song smoothly followed by a breath if relief that they did it. As a smile slowly formed at the edges of his lips and his anxiety slowly crawled back inside his mind, the boy looked over at Rose and nodded a bit wiry a smile as he was glad nothing awkward came between them and that she was still a good friend before speaking " yeah that was brilliant, I can't believe we did that and that we went first."
